Pippa Middleton in MaxMara at the Wimbledon final: twee or adorable?

Wimbledon 2017 Arrivals

Here are some photos of assorted Middletons at the Wimbledon Men’s Final on Sunday. Roger Federer played Marin Cilic, and long story short, Roger won his eighth Wimbledon singles title without dropping a set the whole tournament. It is historic, even more so considering that this was Roger’s 19th Slam title and he’s just weeks away from turning 36. Roger is a close Middleton family friend, and he was recently a guest at Pippa’s wedding. So of course the whole Middleton family came out to support him in the final. Somewhat hilariously, only the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were allowed into the Royal Box for the final. The rest of the Middletons – EVEN QUEEN CAROLE – had to sit in the cheap seats.

First, the photos of Pippa and James Middleton, which were hilariously labeled as “Pippa and her husband James” at one photo agency. I do wonder if it’s weird to be married to a man with the same name as your brother. I’m sure it happens to some people, but surely you would want to give at least one of them a nickname? I say we call James Middleton “Marshmallow Jim” and James Matthews “Terribly Moderately Wealthy James.” Marshmallow Jim was Pippa’s date to the final, and I guess TMW James only got to watch the final on TV. Pippa wore this tiered, ruffled, floral MaxMara dress which I dislike, but I find appropriate for Wimbledon. This mess costs $900!! The Middleton women spend a ridiculous amount of money on ugly/questionable dresses, right? Yikes. Her green purse is Tory Burch. I kind of think Tory Burch is paying Pippa to “model” clothes and accessories.

Carole and Michael Middleton were there too, and they all sat in a row in the cheap seats.

Ugly and twee — it looks like an over-designed nightgown. Also, hate the strap on that handbag.

    • Mrs. WelenMelon says:

Gunne Sax and wedgies, circa 1974. I hated the look then and I hate it even more now.

    • INeedANap says:

It looks like the wallpaper in a country cottage. I would love it in a vintage powder room, but on a ruffle-tastic dress it’s hideous.

    • What's Inside says:

I could not agree more. The shoes look like clodhoppers.

      • KiddVicious says:

Oddly enough, I think the shoes are what makes the outfit. Kind of pulls it all together. I do like ’70’s fashion, though.

    • Lahdidahbaby says:

Good god, even for Pippa this is just awful. Like a sister-wife’s Sunday go to meetin’ outfit.

  2. trollontheloose says:

A pony tail would have suited better. I don’t hate nor like it. The platforms look too heavy for her and the dress. anyway blah.

    • Becks says:

Agreed. I think the dress may be cute, maybe? It’s certainly very summer-y. But I don’t like it with those shoes and I think her hair would have looked better pulled completely back.

  3. Rice says:

That’s a fideous (typo and it stays) dress.

  4. Aiobhan Targaryen says:

This dress is somehwhat cuter than the last few dresses she has worn.

The dress is light and summery, but the longer I stare at it the more it is starting to look like bedsheets that I had back in the 1980s. Cute shoes and bag combo.

  5. Vylette says:

I like the purse. That’s about all I can say. Rest is a mess definitely

  6. Seraphina says:

I saw the picture that showed her shoes as well and I got a headache. BUT it’s a step up from that other dress she wore that looked like a slip.

  7. CidyKitty says:

It’s too much. Too many ruffles, and layers and everything. It’s just too much.

    • Ankhel says:

I rather like how light and airy it is, but yes, it would be better with half as many ruffles and stuff. Especially the bits around her waist.

Also, the accessories could be better. Maybe a straw clutch with the leather shoes, or flats with the green bag?

  8. anonymous says:

This dress is straight up ugly ! even my grandmother would not wear something like this.

  9. Hgfghkjhf says:

I hate how they keep calling them the cheap seats they r a few thousand a piece….nonetheless tragically hilarious she can’t sit with her own daughter

    • Megan says:

Why would the Midds be in the royal box on the last day of Wimbledon? The tennis club reserves those tickets for royals, elected officials, VIP guests, sponsors and celebrities.

  10. Beluga says:

What on earth has Carole done to her face?

  11. MinnFinn says:

Carole’s fillers are way overdone. Could her face BE any wider?

    • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

They’ve settled a bit since Pippa’s wedding when her face looked swollen.

      • Marin County says:

During the Wedding She WAS The Great Pumpkin.

        Now she’s just Carole Pumpkin-head.

        Aging. It ain’t for sissies.

  12. Neverwintersand says:

This style of dress is just not compatible with the current trend for women figures – toned, sporty with visible muscles. It creates a contradiction to me, and does not look well. More minimalistic dress design would look better, imo.

    • AnnaKist says:

I agree, Neverwintersand. I have a friend with the most perfectly-proportioned body I’ve ever seen. – slim and beautifully toned, thanks to her daily running, boxing and circuit training. She always wears simple, clean lines – that’s just her – and whether she’s at work, walking her dog or out at a party, looks amazing.

Pippa always looks twee. End of story. In all the pics I’ve seen, she seems to be focused on being ready with a smile for the photographers, while everyone else is focused on, you know, the tennis.

Kaiser: Two of my best friends are married to men with the same names as their brothers. One’s brother is Michael, but her husband is Mick, so that’s easy. The other guys are named Scott. My friend always qualifies any reference to them as “my Scott” or “my brother, Scott”, even though I’ve known her for ever and it’s clear which one ne she’s referring to. It’s rather amusing.

    • Anesthetizes says:

Couldn’t have said it better myself. The dress (which has too many ruffles already) does not suit her at all.

  13. TomatoGirl says:

This particular dress needs styling. Right now, with those shoes and bag it looks pretty bad.

  14. Maum says:

Carole now looks exactly like Kate.

  15. Beth says:

Those shoes and bag are bad and look especially bad with her dress. Not a good match. I never wear pajamas in public. She shouldn’t be wearing a nightgown to Wimbledon

    • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

ITA – neither bag or shoes go with the dress. Not one member of that family – male of female – can put a look together. No even Kate who has a ‘stylist’.

      • Zondie says:

I agree. And further, I don’t think that floaty dress looks like something you would wear to Wimbledon.

  16. Indiana Joanna says:

Expensive clothes, constant facial enhancing treatments, extreme dieting, unrelenting pr. And the Midd women derail it all with scruffy shoes, poor posture, stiff smug smiles, gallumphing gaits and that they travel together as tightly packed as sardines in a tin. They are always in search of the next big social climber conquest.

Pips’ so-so dress is completely ruined by the cross body bag cutting across her mannish figure. She looks like a lumberjack dressing up for the ball.

  17. Sofia says:

Tory Burch bags are a basic bitch banner.

    • LaMaitresse says:

Lol!!! The whole line is! I loathe Tory Birch, it’s such poorly made tat!

    • Olenna says:

So true, and this very basic, walking advertisement is probably getting her clothing and accessories free from the designers and brand reps.

  18. seesittellsit says:

Too unsophisticated for Wimbledon and the clunky thick-soled shoes work against the delicacy of the dress.

  19. skyblue says:

I think I wore that dress and sandals in 1982🤣 But I was fifteen and again, it was 1982….

  20. Emma33 says:

I know a lot of people comment here about Pippa and Kate not being able to dress for their figures (long torsos etc), and I’m just wondering, what kinds of clothes do suit their figures? What should they be wearing?

(Genuine question..Because I can see this ruffly thing doesn’t suit Pippa, her proportions look off, but I don’t know what would suit her better.)

    • Indiana Joanna says:

Jackie Onassis had wide shoulders and a long torso like the Midds but Jackie also had longer legs. Jackie kept it simple with beautiful fabrics and clean lines. You never saw her looking rumpled and wearing too tight clothes like the Midds do.

Jackie also carried herself like a queen. And she was a somewhat interesting person who rarely courted press attention. The Midds are always pitched forward like afterthought guests who are rushing to the party.

      • Emma33 says:

Ah ok, so it’s about having simple lines and fabric that isn’t too fussy? I can see that Carol dresses more in this kind of style and usually looks quite good.

I am wondering if Pippa gets sent a lot of stuff for free and just wears it without really knowing what her style is. A lot of that floaty, ruffly 70’s stuff is very in at the moment, but I couldn’t go near it with a barge pole!

      • Susannah says:

Jackie was no more than 5’6″, having stood next to her, and I am 5’7″. She did have a long torso and broad shoulders, but her legs were not long.

  21. Karen says:

This dress could be cute on a tall person with flat sandals and a cute summery straw bag. Also something odd around the bustline. She looks saggy again.

On Pippa it looks like a dress Granny would wear on the Beverly Hillbillies.

Green cross body and thick clunky wedges-girl needs a stylist!

  22. chlo says:

Just chiming in to say those shoes are awful. No shoe game!!

  23. Lainey says:

Nope!! No no way. One of the worst things she’s worn

  24. Jaded says:

Her dress looks like a summer nightie I wore when I was about 6 years old. Those shoes….dear God they look like Alice B. Toklas’s cast-offs. What on earth is with those Midd girls and their damn wedges of doom?!?

  25. Penelope says:

She tries so hard yet never quite looks pulled together or stylish.

  26. Yup, Me says:

I really wish she would stop with the ugly crossbody bags.

  27. mar_time says:

How do they have such awful style?? This dress has California Summer vibes, which as an LA lady I can appreciate, but those hideous shoes kill the look…she needs a better bra, slightly longer skirt, cute sandals and she’d look a million times better. Also they should buy a size up and get clothing tailored because everything they wear looks too tight. They = all 3 Middleton women

  28. L says:

It looks like it’s from Mandee’s.

  29. Shannon says:

OMG good thing I’m not famous, I would get so much hate on here LOL because it looks JUST like something I would wear, even the shoes (except I’m not feeling that handbag, and no way have I ever spent $900 on any article of clothing LOL)

  30. Mildred Fierce says:

I actually think the bohemian look suits Pippa rather well although she needs to ditch that horrid purse. Cross body bags rarely look good on anyone, especially in that particular shade of green; she should have gone with a hobo bag in a neutral color.
