Adam Lambert comes out –duh!– and signs a record deal

05_Flatbed_1 - JUNE

It’s been a busy week for American Idol runner up Adam Lambert. First, he signed a record deal with RCA Records, with his debut CD to be released this fall. RCA is the defacto label for previous American Idol acts such as Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry and David Cook; as well as chart toppers like Christina Aguilera, Ray Lamontagne, Kings of Leon and the Foo Fighters.

One day after American Idol winner Kris Allen signed a record deal, runner-up Adam Lambert got one of his own.

“I’m thrilled that we’ve come to a creative and collaborative partnership and look forward to developing a really exciting album,” Lambert said in a statement Tuesday. “We are 100 percent on the same page and are all anxiously awaiting the start of the recordings. It’s going to be ridiculous! Get ready!”

Lambert, 27, is already preparing to start work on the album and will record it this summer — while on the road for the 50-city Idol tour, which kicks off July 15 in Portland, Oregon.

“To find a talent as exceptional as Adam Lambert is a rare and special event,” American Idol creator Simon Fuller said in a statement. “I am thrilled that American Idol was the platform for the world to discover this brilliant young man. He is unique and unforgettable and a certain star of tomorrow.”

The singer has already had four songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart earlier this summer, including “Mad World,” “No Boundaries” and “One.”

“There are no longer any rules in terms of where the world’s next superstars may come from,” Barry Weiss, chairman of the RCA/JIVE label, said. “We are thrilled to be getting involved with Adam Lambert as we all at RCA Records believe he is one of those rare, future global stars.”

And second, his cover story with Rolling Stone will hit newsstands tomorrow- and the theater kid-turned-glam-rocker will finally answer questions about his sexual orientation. Not that it matters.

Adam Lambert finally confirms his sexuality in the new issue of Rolling Stone (on stands tomorrow).

“I don’t think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear that I’m gay,” the American Idol runner-up says.

“I’m proud of my sexuality,” continues the rocker, who was photographed holding hands with interior designer Drake LaBry earlier this month. “I embrace it. It’s just another part of me.”

But Lambert, 27, from San Diego — who performed Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come” on the Idol finale — says he’s not the poster boy for gay rights.

“I’m trying to be a singer, not a civil rights leader,” he tells RS contributor Vanessa Grigoriadis.

Lambert admits that he was nervous about coming out while Idol was still on the air because contestants are under a media embargo, and he wanted to do it on his “own terms.” (He also says producers were open to him handling it however he wanted to.)

“I was worried that [coming out] would be so sensationalized that it would overshadow what I was there to do, which was sing,” Lambert tells the mag. “I’m an entertainer, and who I am and what I do in my personal life is a separate thing. it shouldn’t matter. Except it does. It’s really confusing.”

Lambert credits the FOX reality show with helping him gain self confidence.

“I finally checked into my self-worth for the first time in my life, and the fact that it coincided with Idol is so sweet,” he says. “I mean, I still have moments where I think, ‘Oh, my skin is terrible, and I’m a little fat — I should really go to the gym more.’ But for the most part, when I look in the mirror now, I finally see somebody who can do something cool.”

Well, there you have it. Mystery solved. As if there were ever any doubt. I hope this means Adam can move on from the speculation and just get down to the business of recording this CD. I can’t wait!

Every body in Hollywood is gay.

Geez… what Rolling Stone has become is pathetic. Back in the day not so long ago, to get on the cover of Rolling Stone you had to have reached the top of your field.

Adam is great but he doesn’t even have an album yet! Why the heck is he on the cover?!

Rolling Stone used to not kiss a**, they would tell it like it is. These days it’s like MTV: PR crap. Very very sad.

PS:also; is that black chest hair?! Are you kidding me? This guy dyes his hair, eyebrows, eyelashes and CHEST HAIR?! How fing high maintenance is he? Talk about a diva!!

  3. DuhMomentOfTheDay says:

@Jeff: lol. Although I am still holding out for some of my favorites to be straight…

CB, you are the only ones so far that have written the headline right. The “duh!” part isn’t in any of the others I’ve seen!

  4. I Choose Me says:

WTF is with the snake? Is that some sort of thinly veiled reference to his sexual preference? And why the hell do people care so much whether other people who are not them are gay or straight? Anyhoo I read some other excerpts of his Rolling Stone article on Wonderwall and I think this guy is a hoot.

Hope adding the link doesn’t send me to mod-land. Just in case, here are a couple of other quotes.

“I loved it this season when girls went crazy for me,” he says. “As far as I’m concerned, it’s all hot. Just because I’m not sticking it in there doesn’t mean that I don’t find it beautiful.”

“I’ve only dressed in drag three or four times — and of course I took pictures, because I looked amazing — but I don’t tuck and I don’t wear breasts, that’s not me,” he says. “Sucking my boy’s face? Yes, that I will own.”

  5. OXA says:

When was he in the closet?

  6. I Choose Me says:

Yup, my post got sent to mod. So to reiterate.

Clay Aiken must be turning three shades of green at this moment.

I think Adam will go much further.

  8. Annie says:

    OMG WHAT!?

    HE IS!?!?!?

    SAY IT AINT SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    (pfft.)

LOL dubdub2000 to the chest hair and the rolling stone commentary. LOL to I Choose Me and the snake commentary, seriously what is up with that?…I really enjoyed watching him perform, but I really, really hope that they don’t squash whatever originality his voice may have in the process of making him commercially appealing.

  10. LovingLife says:

If I was a gay male I would find Adam’s cover totally sexy hot; since I’m a hetro female I just find it hot.

I hope Adam becomes the ‘rock god’ he was proclaimed to be during American Idol. Adam could have played the gay-card’ to get publicity during the show, but chose to stay focused on displaying his talent. Kudos to his talent and showmanship!

  11. flourpot says:

I’m loving all the paraphernalia he has around his crotch. Belt, butterfly, zipper, snake. Hilarious.

  12. Tia says:

Everyone in the limelight is gay.. good for Adam for being awesome.

  13. orion70 says:

dubdub2000…you hit that nail right on the head. Does anyone even buy RS anymore?

  14. ! says:

Ugh, I detest people that play the “Am I or aren’t I?” game for publicity. Sexuality is not a matter to be hidden, nor is it one to be exploited for a Rolling Stone cover. He did right by HIMSELF and himself only.

  15. crazymary says:

His boyfriend is smokin’ hot. Wish I was a gay guy and not just some middle aged woman living in suburbia. Lol.

  16. MSat says:

I agree that RS has gone downhill – oh, how I long for the days of Hunter S. Thompson! But at least Adam is an actual, you know, artist. Recent RS covers have included the stars of The Hills, The Jonas Brothers and High School Musical. Ugh! Adam Lambert may not have a CD out yet but he’s 10 times the rock star those tools are!

  17. queenie says:

I personally don’t give a hoot about one’s sexual orientation, nor does it cross my mind when I am talking with someone. However, I do get tired of the whole gay community “say it loud, say it proud” thing. I don’t walk around declaring my orientation to the world and I just feel it’s a private issue.

  18. Ana says:

I feel so betrayed. All this time I just thought he was a straight man who enjoyed dressing in drag and kissing other men!
    Lol.
It’s not that big of a deal. But in order for that picture to work his chin should’ve been tilted down a little more, looking straight on. He should’ve given his wonderful signature look. It hasn’t gotten old yet!
And I like the butterfly near his crotch.

  19. britt says:

lol crazymary, ain’t that the truth 😉

  20. cakes says:

I pretty much figured it out when I saw him in drag sucking another guys face.

  21. MeowMeow says:

I think he’s hot as shit.

  22. Tia says:

He looks like Elvis.. hot, hot, hot.. him and his b/f are a beautiful couple

  23. dizzybenny says:

i’m with dubdub2000 comments.in less then 5 years he’ll be doing dancing with the stars and singing of the Vegas strip in a bar lounge.

  24. orion70 says:

lol @ dizzybenny. Selling “remember when!!” 8 track favorites on late night TV.

and MSat…not so sure I agree with your comment up there.
