Earlier this week, Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx sort-of confirmed their previously very secret relationship by taking a pap stroll on the beach together. This thrilled me for some reason, probably because we’ve heard about their alleged hookups for years, and so many of us have been shipping them all along. Since their couple rollout we’ve heard sourced stories in the major celebrity outlets about their romance, and it sounds like it’s been off-on all this time. I guess that makes the most sense considering they’ve kept it so quiet, and the fact that Jamie Foxx especially has denied it multiple times. In fact US had a story recently that Jamie hasn’t really talked to his friends about Katie, but that “Everyone knows they’re together and that he is not seeing other women, but it’s still unspoken.” They add, from another supposed source, that it’s “obvious” he has “had someone special in his life for a very long time.” US hasn’t been the most reliable ever since they were bought by American Media, so I don’t know how much stock to put in those quotes. It’s like they’re hinting that Jamie was reluctant to make a public commitment (which many have suspected) but aren’t saying it outright.

People, on the other hand, still remains the PR mouthpiece and they’re presenting this romance in a similar way, like it simmered for a while until Jamie was ready.

In 2015, a source told PEOPLE they weren’t getting serious. “This is not some intense romance,” the source said. “Jamie and Katie are friends and have been for a long time. They are two adults who are attractive and single, and so apparently conclusions will be drawn. But contrary to those conclusions, they’re not about to run off and make some serious commitment.”

Added a Foxx source at the time: “[They] see each other and go out together, but Jamie would tell you he is not involved with anyone seriously. [He]’s a workaholic and couldn’t be happier in his life as it is.”

A new round of rumors surfaced in 2016 after the actress stepped out in New York City wearing a diamond ring (which she’d been sporting for months) while Foxx was spotted wearing a gold band.

Holmes met up at a hotel with Foxx, who had been in the City of Lights to shoot his new Robin Hood movie, sources confirmed at the time. (Meanwhile, Cruise was working on the sixth installment of his Mission: Impossible franchise a few blocks away.)

While the actress kept a low profile during her Paris stay, though she did stop by Luc Besson’s studio Cité du Cinemas, where Foxx was filming. Later, the duo were photographed boarding a private jet together out of the city.

Ooh I forgot about the rings they were wearing! Does this mean they’ve been more serious for about a year and a half or so? That timeline seems likely.

The Daily Beast has a thinkpiece about what a controlling, hive mind POS Tom Cruise must be. It’s based on that extraordinary Vanity Fair expose from 2012 which confirmed Tom’s Scientology girlfriend auditions and how manipulative and abusive he was to a young actress named Nazanin Boniadi, who went on the record with her story. I believe he was controlling and emotionally abusive of Katie and that he used his COS cronies to spy on and intimidate her. She outsmarted him though, her dad was a lawyer and she got out of that relationship with her kid and her will intact. The article claims that the timing of Katie and Jamie going public sort-of confirms the rumors that Tom Cruise had a five year no-dating clause built into their divorce settlement. I can buy that, in fact I mentioned it earlier this week, but I also see how Jamie Foxx is controlling of his image and might not have wanted to go public for a while either.

Also, look at Katie at the US Open being amazed by Venus Williams! I am going to copy that outfit. Tweed jackets are all over the place this season and I’ve been looking for mine.
