Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton at TIFF ‘Euphoria’ premiere: lovely or twee?

This is a very rare moment: I actually think Alicia Vikander’s Louis Vuitton contract is doing good things for her! Alicia is in Toronto this week for TIFF, and on Monday she premiered Euphoria, a small film she stars in and produced. This LV dress is actually rather pretty, even if I’m not completely in love with the fabric and pattern. It suits her though – the cut, the neckline, the silhouette. Very flattering and pretty.

In Euphoria, Alicia’s working with female director (and Swede) Lisa Langseth, who gave Vikander her big break in Pure. They followed up their collaboration with Hotel, and now this. Vikander and Langseth talked about their collaboration – go here to read. This is Vikander’s first time as a producer and she seemed to really enjoy the process.

Meanwhile, Alicia said words about wanting to start a family:

Alicia Vikander isn’t necessarily looking to start a family just yet, but the actress has an idea about how she’d want to raise any potential children in the future.

“Any life is different. I try to just remember that,” Vikander, 28, told Entertainment Weekly, PEOPLE, and InStyle at the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday, where she’s promoting the film Euphoria. “It’s really been the people surrounding me growing up — my family members but also my friends kind of formed who I am. I do believe a lot of that context and environment is part of creating who we are, not only nature. I would want to do that with a family one day too if that’s the case.”

[From EW]

No offense, but was she high when she gave that quote to EW? It’s just a weird way to sort of wispily talk about a nature/nurture conversation. I believe in nature and nurture too – our environment has as much influence on us as our genes. I guess Alicia feels the same way. She’s been talking about babies for a few months now – I wonder if she and Michael Fassbender are going to try for a baby in the next year.

    Love it she looks perfect

  2. minx says:

I like it except for the dangling belt.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

I like it except for the quilting (sort of rusching?) in the bodice. Otherwise, it think it is very pretty and looks really nice on her; also like her hair styling with it.

    • CTgirl says:

Yeah, the belt looks like it’s tied half assed. Aside from that, this is a great look.

    • Nicole says:

Yea I wish the belt was tied better or trimmed. But its a good look for her.

    • JC says:

Love the dress but the belt—-no. The pattern looks like a beautiful, sepia-colored, Chinese landscape painting.

  3. PPP says:

I saw this movie last night and ugly cried in public. Amazing movie. I also never understood people who think she’s bland. She was a great Kitty in Anna Karenina, she was charming in Man from Uncle, and she was excellent in Ex Machina. I wish her all the success in the world.

    • Jerusha says:

Co-sign all you said. I haven’t seen Euphoria yet, but I will. I see all her movies, she’s one of my favorites.

    • lannisterforever says:

I totally agree with you PPP! I think she’s really talented.

    • manta says:

I’m with you but I think we”re alone under those skies. Her and Gleeson’s scenes were my favorite part in Anna Karenina and I enjoyed her portrayal of Vera Brittain. Same for her parts in Ex machina and A royal affair. I haven’t seen the film with Redmayne so have no opinion about her Oscar though.

  4. Jerusha says:

She looks beautiful. And I don’t see any problem with the quote she gave EW. It’s sort of hippieish, but I get that vibe from her.

  5. tracking says:

I loved the book, so am looking forward to this film. She looks lovely, polished and pretty. I was very impressed with her performance in Ex Machina, but not so much with the other roles I’ve seen. I’m hopeful about this one.

  6. Cleo says:

    She’s purrrty.

Also I know she’s almost 29 but she looks so young to me that her talking about having kids seems weird. If you told me she was in her late teens I’d buy it tbh.

  7. Flipper says:

    She’s so plain looking.

  8. tealily says:

The length of that dress is awkward. I’d like to see it about 4 inches shorter.

  9. lightpurple says:

Pretty dress. But is there a ring?

    • Squiggisbig says:

There is no ring because the whole Fassy wedding in Ibiza story was clearly cooked up by some publicist to distract from that Tulip flop.

I do like her styling though. Very pretty.

      • Lilly says:

What will you say if/when they do get married? It’s all part of some movie promotion?

What about when they have kids? It’s for an Oscar campaign?

      • Lightpurple says:

Like the relationship was made up to promoteThe Danish Girl? They’re a real couple and they keep proving the naysayers wrong

  10. Skylark says:

It’s a pretty dress but there’s something off about the length…. I’d have preferred it if it were knee length, maybe? But otherwise, she looks lovely.

  11. Serene Wolf says:

    Cute dress. She looks great.

  12. Heat says:

This dress was so beautiful in person! The metallic sheen of the gold doesn’t quite come through in pictures. Wonderful performances from Alicia and Eva. I thought it might be based on the book of the same name, but it is an original screenplay by the director. I’m with you PPP, big fan since A Royal Affair. A friend of mine who doesn’t usually care for her liked her performance in Submergence as well, so maybe more people will come around.

Oh! And there was no ring on THAT finger anyway. I looked! Lol.

  13. Umm says:

I had a fun time last week in toronto at TIFF. I was in a wedding next door to the TIFF venue and had some time to kill post make-up but pre everything else. I went to get coffee and saw them building the red carpet. Cue me being allowed to parade up and down pretending I was papazazzi ready. Sunday mornings in toronto can throw up lovely surprises 🙂

  14. Carol says:

I cant decide if her face is beautiful or if it’s plain looking.

    • perplexed says:

She looks kind of sleepy sometimes. I’m not sure if that’s because of her make-up though. She looks more “natural” which is probably a contrast to how everyone else looks these days. I’m so used to seeing heavy make-up on people nowadays (the Kardashian lips and eyebrows seem to be everyone on everyone), it almost seems a little strange to see someone who wears more natural looking make-up (I assume she’s done up, just more, er, naturally).

I think her features are kind of smaller/more petite too (in contrast to someone like Julia Roberts).

      • Mannori says:

she would benefit greatly from a double espresso shot before photoshoots or interviews. ☕️ She looks like she suffers from hypotension.

    • Val says:

I saw her today at TIFF and I think she is beautiful. Very fine-featured, gorgeous skin, lovely smile. Little or no make-up.

  15. Babs says:

I hate the dress, color, belt, lenght, pattern and cut.

  16. minxx says:

The dress is lovely. Poor Alicia, she has terrible reviews lately – Tulip Fever is a huge flop and I hear that Euphoria is no better. But if she has a wedding to plan, who cares, right? Btw, I’ll eat my hat if she and Fassbender get married.

  17. Mannori says:

yikes to that third picture without the red carpet lighting….I believe she’s pretty but not stunning and certainly not photogenic at all.

I think she still has a little bit of a language barrier when articulating her thoughts in English, because is not the first time she comes out weird and confusing. I think the last time she said something about pregnancies she made confusing statements. (I don’t remember exactly the phrasing now, but it made me think that either she was hiding something or that she was just having communication issues with English.)

    • Elisa the I. says:

      +1,
I challenge everyone who shades her for “talking weirdly” to try and give an interview in a foreign language and be crystal clear in every statement you make. IMO this is quite annoying because she has been attacked for this repeatedly.
I hardly ever write longer comments on CB because I’m not an English native speaker and it’s challenging to express your thoughts when you are missing the right words/phrases.
Also, she looks absolutely lovely in these pics. I found her fantastic in Ex Machina and meh in Uncle, but she def can act.

    • Sylvia says:

I’m sorry, but the language barrier thing is BS. Swedes are the most proficient speakers of English outside of English speaking countries. You can Google that if you like, I’m not just throwing out an opinion. Plus, hasn’t she been living in London for years, like since she was a teen (I could be wrong on this though)? Her English is fine. I think her problem is she tries too hard to sound smart and deep and profound. There are just too many other Swedish actors in Hollywood who don’t have the same problem in interviews to blame it on “language barriers”.

Anyways, I agree: this is a rare pretty dress from LV. I don’t even mind the ribbon belt; it wouldn’t be her if there weren’t some kind of twee embellishment like a ribbon or ruffle. I still think she’s basic and one note (I’ve only liked her in Ex Machina), but the dress is pretty and suits her.

  18. OG Cleo says:

    Pretty dress.

More interestingly, nature vs nurture is fascinating because in reality, our genes have repeatedly proven to have far more long-lasting impact on our biology, social behaviors, etc. than we think. Like adopted children more closely mirroring their biological parents in things like IQ than their adoptive parents. *scientific musing over*
