I feel bad for the kids, we're watching their family fall apart right before our eyes. I watched the b-day episode, and thought it wsa very odd for him to "vacation" on her birthday. I just looked at this post and the comments, and out of 19 comments, just one person said she is nasty to her kids. The other "poor kids" comments, I think, are more about the kids having a bad family situation, loss of privacy, etc. I mean, I don't think she is horrible directly to her kids but I feel sorry for them. There is ONE mean thing I have noticed her do to the kids -- disparage their father. She makes lots of sarcastic comments about him to the kids and that is mean. (Example: In the "Twins are Mom for a day" episode -- Child: "Daddy didn't turn on the oven." Kate: "Now THERE'S a surprise." ) I am a divorced mom and my kids have really suffered when their dad "talks trash" about me. Kids love both parents and hearing one talking meanly about the other is very upsetting and corrosive. They want to believe what they're told (because they love and trust the parent saying it) but they don't want to believe it because they love (and identify with) the parent being talked about. I'm not an addict by any means but I've seen enough shows to know that Kate does not treat her children badly. There are also many, many episodes where she and John are shown in a loving light, even as recently as 2008. So what is going here? Are you all basing your opinions on the front pages of tabloids at the checkout counters? I really am serious here. When I read these comment boards and then tune into the show I feel like I'm missing something. Just what have you witnessed her do to her kids that is so damned horrible? I saw one of the episodes from Season 4, and it was still obvious Jon and Kate have respect, if not love, for each other. Now, Jon is never around, or when he is, Kate is not. I also think that even if Kate was such a "nagger" before, berating Jon all the time and being an overly meticulous woman about every little thing, at least you can see how she and Jon were like before all the problems. Now, Kate and Jon barely talk to each other, as if they are truly just there for the show and the children, and it's very sad. Heck, they can barely look at each other anymore even if they are in the same room. The kids don't look like they are affected, though. I don't know if that's a good thing or not. I hope the show ends soon. Jon and Kate need to see where their marriage stands, and work things out.
