Rihanna in a lavender Molly Goddard babydoll dress: tragic, twee or lovely?

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Launch

For-real question: if Rihanna was pregnant, would she tell us? I sometimes get a pregnant vibe from her, especially in the past few months. I mostly think Rihanna has just gained a little bit of weight and it’s not about a pregnancy. But sometimes I do wonder… like, wouldn’t it be exactly like this if she was undercover-preg? Wouldn’t she be stepping out in weird babydoll dress and hiding her midsection, which is exactly what she’s been doing? Hm. Still, she’s probably not pregnant.

These are photos of Rihanna from her latest launch event for Fenty Beauty. This launch event was in London! She wore a Molly Goddard babydoll dress and yes, it looks like maternitywear, but I think Rih is just trying out a different silhouette. On anyone else, I would hate this dress with a passion. Because Rihanna is wearing it… well, I still don’t like it but I respect it. Rihanna is the new Cate Blanchett for me – Rihanna makes me think differently about style and how clothing is worn.

As for Fenty Beauty… people still love it. People are still praising Rihanna like crazy for creating such an inclusive beauty line. How inclusive is it? People with albinism are praising it, saying that the super-pale makeup works on their skin. You can see Buzzfeed’s real-life-people using all 40 shades here.

Also, the diamond necklace she’s wearing in these photos… OMG. Just, OMG!!!

Oh my God, girl, no. The wrap helps a BIT, but she looks like a cake topper. With a lot of hand tats.

I do love the shoes, though.

  2. Nancy says:

Divine. We just went to a wedding, and I’d rip that dress right off of her to have worn it, albeit with different results. I do hate every time a woman gains a bit of weight, the pregnancy talk begins, and we wonder why there are so many eating disorders, geesh. She looks stunning to me, as always.

    • Kitten says:

Honestly, who cares about her weight with THAT. FACE. ♥
      Le Sigh.

      • kimbers says:

right?!?! so she’s not the baby chic she used to be. she’s getting older, metabolism slowing and eating habits stay the same? it happens. no bugs. she’s gorgeous!

      • detritus says:

        God that face.
She’s wearing her own makeup line too, I think.
I want some of those matchstix baaaad.

      • meh says:

@detritus I got the Unicorn matchstix (I think she may be wearing that one in these pics) and it is AH-MAY-ZING

      • I Choose Me says:

Right? I was like, wow first for the face and then for that gorgeous bling. I can still say bling right?

    • Lilly says:

I think it’s also to match with confetti, a shade of Match Stix from the Fenty beauty line, and I love on her (and probably only her). I so agree with your eating disorder remark. Fenty beauty has got a lot of money from me so far.

      • detritus says:

You like so far? I’m debating splurging for something, but can’t pick what.

      • Lilly says:

@detritus (love that handle) I love #fentyface so hard. Ha ha. I did the actual countdown online to buy stuff. But, I didn’t buy the foundation until I could go into Sephora, or Trophy Wife. When I went in and tried it I found a good match and if you’re not too heavy-handed Trophy Wife is a subtle enough for everyday wear. I use it in the corner of my eyes and brow. The Match Stix are shimmer and matte and I’ve used the shimmer as a lip gloss and it’s really long-lasting. I’m pretty obsessed and I don’t wear a lot of make-up each day; it has a pretty natural look. She does only one lip gloss and I love the color, but I haven’t splurged yet, because I have so many. It’s a reasonable cost, though. Not drug store, but not like Chanel prices. If you’re into it, I ended up watching a ton of YouTube reviews and found people with similar coloring. #fentyfever for sure.

Agreed. I get zero pregnancy vibes from her. Her nose has not changed (which seems to be the most popular give away), and she looks pretty normal to me. Since it was brought up – again – I just spent a few mins browsing through pictures from the last year, I see several where I can understand people thinking she’s hiding a bump. But then I see some where she is wearing fitting clothes and clearly has no bump. She just looks like I look when I’ve been drinking too much and get bloated from the alcohol. I literally had what looked like a pregnancy belly for about three months until two weeks ago when is topped drinking anything. I have lost no pounds, but probably 3- 4 inches off of my waist.

Her outfit here is adorable. Maybe it’s not for everyone (I certainly wouldn’t wear it), but it’s definitely for her. She looks amazing. Then again, she can wear literally anything (and does) and still look incredible. I think this is one of her cutest outfits.

Here is her last month. I see no pregnancy. ….

  3. Megan says:

Her hair and make up look incredible. And those diamonds!

    • Elisa the I. says:

the lavender make up is flawless – she looks incredibly beautiful as usual. I hate the dress, though.

  4. HK9 says:

The dress is a bit frou frou for me but it’s Rihanna-she can wear anything. I’m just here for the jewellery tho….

  5. minx says:

Honestly, she can wear just about anything.

  6. Pandy says:

Totally cake topper!! Or those old fashioned dolls with crinolines that covered toilet paper rolls lolllllll.

  7. Skylark says:

Oh come on. There’s no new way of looking at that dress, regardless of who’s wearing it. It’s an abomination! She’s a gorgeous woman but no.

Great that her make-up line is doing so well.

  8. Chaine says:

The sagging ruffly tube-top is awful. And the shoes! I like them, BUT they look like they intended to be walking an entirely different outfit down the red carpet…

  9. Littlebowbee says:

Love the color!! Don’t like the actual dress or shoes. I don’t like any of those wrap around shoe things she wears. They look painful.

  10. chlo says:

I love it! She can get away with almost anything. She’s amazing. I wish every Rihanna post here didn’t bring up the fact that the writer thinks she gained weight.

  11. teacakes says:

Call me crazy but I love the human wedding cake thing she’s got going on here. And that colour is amazing on her.

Also she’s worn Molly Goddard’s stuff before (I only noticed because Susie of Style Bubble is a huge MG fan), last year. I think she just likes the designer, it’s not about anything else.

  12. teacakes says:

Also I love that Fenty Beauty is doing so well, there’s obviously a market for it because I heard some of the darkest shades are already sold out!

  13. CharlieBouquet says:

Lol, yeah toilet paper doll my mom made at craft club. Lovely color. I don’t think those shoes would go with pregnancy cankle and bloated feet. I want to try the foundation, nothing looks good on this face o’mine.

  14. smee says:

If she is pregnant and she’s wearing those shoes, I’m impressed.

I like the Cate Blanchett analogy.

  15. Kate says:

Gorgeous! Her makeup is so stunning here.

She’s not pregnant. A few days ago she was out in a slinky tight white number that would highlight the smallest bump. And anyway, it’s been like 5 months since people started suggesting she was pregnant based on her weight gain and fashion choices. If it was relevant she’d be far too far along to hide it by now.

  16. detritus says:

Jewelry and makeup and general awesomeness, yes. Froufrou dress… I like the colour.

  17. Tim H says:

She is always stunning! That colour looks great on her. I can’t really picture this dress on anyone else, but she absolutely rocks it.

  18. Erica_V says:

I doubt she’s pregnant – she’s been drinking champagne and smoking blunts on IG stories/Live.

This outfit is very much her Princess Rihi persona – I love it even tho I’d never wear it. Also really like the hair here I wish she had done something like this for the Diamond Ball vs all stringy by her face.

  19. Becki says:

Hate the dress, I only clicked on this b/c her face is so stunning, I love her makeup. But I immediately thought pregnant too!! I don’t think she is, and it’s fine to gain some weight, but the clothing she has been wearing makes one wonder.

  20. savu says:

Totally agree with the Blanchett analogy! I LOVE this color, it’s amazing. And watching people flip over Fenty has been awesome. I’m super fair, especially in the winter, and most “porcelain” category makeup has pink undertones, and I have more neutral/olive undertones (even though I’m fair). And the fact that my dark sisters have so many options that match them is awesome. Is this enough to prove that there IS a market for all shades of skin tones?! I hope so!

  21. Ozogirl says:

The wrap is too much, but without that, she looks gorgeous!

  22. raincoaster says:

There are better ways to dress like a four-year-old girl’s idea of a princess’s lampshade. The colour is good, but the bodice doesn’t really do her any favours, and when you have that much texture on something so short it looks too fussy. The silhouette (bodice fixed) could have worked in a different fabric. The shoes are great. The makeup is spectacular.

  23. lexx says:

Rihanna under no circumstances be undercover pregnant, because I am not emotionally prepared to deal with the 3 subsequent Drake albums that will consist of him whining and crying about her having another man’s child.
