Prince Harry has ‘never toasted marshmallows over a campfire’, they’re ‘too sweet’

Prince Harry departs Veterans HQ Fleetwood

Here are some photos of Prince Harry doing some of his royal-work duties on Monday. One of the events involved a stop by Brockholes Nature Reserve in Lancashire, where he hung out with some kids and talked about the joys of camping. He actually said a few weird things. One, he said “I’ve made campfires and slept under the stars more than I’ve slept in a bed”… which we probably shouldn’t take literally, right? Because that’s not true. Demonstrably not true. He also watched some kids roasting marshmallows by a campfire and he said, “I’ve never toasted marshmallows over a campfire. They’re too sweet for me.” WHAT??? You don’t just eat the roasted marshmallows on their own. You mix them with graham crackers and chocolate and it’s like the food of the gods. S’mores are amazing and I feel sorry for Prince Harry now. Imagine a world where you live without s’mores.

Meanwhile, there are about a million pieces of dumb Harry-and-Meghan news. Let’s just get through these quickly. One, Hello Magazine is trying to make it sound like Duchess Kate will be giving Meghan “princess lessons” now, which… hahahahahahaha. If anything, Meghan will probably end up giving Kate some princess lessons. There’s also a dumb story from Hollywood Life (which was picked up by the Daily Express) about how the Queen “approves” of Meghan now:

Queen Elizabeth has given Meghan Markle her seal of approval, a royal insider has revealed, leading to increased speculation an engagement announcement with Prince Harry is imminent. The Queen has given Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s romance her blessing, according to a royal insider. Meghan reportedly met the Queen at an intimate tea party last week.

Speaking about the Royal Family’s opinion of the Suits actress, the source said: “There’s no drama within the immediate royal family when it comes to Meghan being an actress, but there are people on the outside who definitely disapprove. There’s still a lot of snobbery in royal circles, and to some, the fact that Meghan is American and a working actress, makes her totally inappropriate marriage material.”

However this hasn’t affected the Queen’s opinion of her, the source told HollywoodLife. They continued: “The Queen, and Prince Charles, are actually much more modern thinking than many give them credit for. They’ve had to change with the times in order to survive. Both the Queen and Prince Charles consider Harry’s happiness to be paramount, and they think Meghan is a great match for Harry, and that she will be a really good addition to the family.”

[From The Daily Express]

Royal sources aren’t speaking to Hollywood Life. And Harry’s happiness isn’t paramount to anyone but Harry. The Queen and Charles do “approve” of Meghan, but that’s mostly about Harry’s choice of bride not being as important as William’s choice. And it’s about the fact that Harry marrying an American really will be good for “the Firm.” They need new blood.

And finally, Meghan’s half-sister is giving interviews to British shows now. Samantha Markle told Good Morning Britain, “I think the British people and the world will be surprised. There’s so much the public doesn’t know. [They’ll be surprised] by how graceful and how lovely she is.” Samantha said this while promoting her new book, The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister. Eyeroll.

Vapid and dull as per usual.

    • Abs says:

This article? Yeah. The events yesterday were pretty interesting.

    • Enough Already says:

You know this is celeb gossip, right? You’re free to check out The Wall Street Journal :/

    • Lavin says:

Harry was awesome at the event. Very warm, gracious, curious about people and the people he met said he was quite charming.

I think the Princes must eat pretty healthy.

Nothing unusual if he is not too much into all that sweet – a lot us fair the same. Only recently chefs start pushing this as dessert. Like most great foods – this was more down to earth lesser of us making great do with what they had – and of course a camp delight.
Another snack considered in the same category of not liking – most popcorn/ smell! Only tolerated by some as parents- and the movies.

    • Olenna says:

IKR. Talk about a fluff piece…

  2. Erinn says:

    “they’re too sweet”

Yeah, that’s kind of the point xD. I mean, I’m not saying go eat a whole bag of them – but there’s something rewarding about getting a perfect toast onto a marshmallow from a campfire.

    • jwoolman says:

He should try just eating the crusty outside of toasted marshmallows and give the melted insides to someone with a sweet tooth. The crusty outside is the best part. S’Mores are overrated, but I’ve never been a big fan of graham crackers or chocolate.

      • Royalsparkle says:

Its great on Thanksgiving Chrustmas other side dishes with some fruit vegetable like pumpkin souffle infusing the sweetness.

  3. Zondie says:

I don’t care for s’mores either. I understand what he means about them being too sweet.

    • Mandymc says:

Pssshhh, you guys are week. I go through a can of marshmallow fluff every two weeks.

      • lala says:

i just googled marshmallow fluff. I did not know this existed! now I must find out if it is vegetarian…

      • It is. No gelatin. It does have egg whites though, so not vegan. The Smuckers Marshmallow cream IS vegan, however.

      • jwoolman says:

I’m allergic to egg whites and would rather avoid gelatin since I know where it’s been…

Ricemallow I think is the name of a vegan version without gelatin. I got some once from veganessentials online. They also have several types of marshmallows and marshmallow candies. Pricey but good. I think if you just google

        vegan marshmallow

You may find more brands and sources and information on how to make your own. Yes, marshmallows can actually be homemade by those not too kitchen-challenged.

    • KiddVicious says:

I’m not a fan of S’mores either, they are too sweet. Putting salty potato chips in between the marshmallow and the chocolate, all melted and smooshed together makes them better. #lifehacks

      • sticker shock says:

This is genius. I found one thing online today that made me happy

..My pantsize won’t be thanking you, though

      • jwoolman says:

Potato chips are supposedly quite tasty dipped or enrobed in chocolate, so this isn’t surprising.

      • notasugarhere says:

Salty potato chips drizzled with the finest dark chocolate you can find. Yum.

  4. Bucketbot says:

Is MM’s sister trying to pull a Pippa Middleton? Was this always a thing? New Princess’ family cashing in on the royals? It just seems gross.

    • SKF says:

She’s a half sister, they didn’t grow up together, they’re not close, and she’s been trashing MM since this began.

      • Royalsparkle says:

Missing half – and nothing to do with Meg Sparkle except same name. Hughly different from the middletons carol and gary funds and drugs hotel close connection.

Another nomsense article about delaying – potential King Henry Sparkles Couple wedding date – re Nicols: Prince Harry Sparkles wedding date will need to be June or later because lazy useless waitie” wont have lost her baby weight to atten” – Who cares about waitie middleton lambridge and baby…

    • Handwoven says:

Her extended family is pretty trashy, and most have filed for bankruptcy at one point or another – so I expect to see either a LOT of cashing in, or a LOT of people getting payouts from the BRF to quiet down.

      • Princessk says:

There are far more and much bigger bankrupts in the RF…..the Queen quietly bails them all out.

      • Royalsparkle says:

But we should exclude and ignore those halves….they have nothing to do with Doria’s adult child – who was wonderfully raise – MM didnt go to extreme like most Hollywood types / transplants. She kept her dignity /respect herself/ and use some to gain financial i dependence while persuing charity eork giving back in mind (re: Interning at an Embassy overseas- ) after akl the potentials being raised lived in LA. Great Honks to Meg Sparkle life!

Potential King Harry the BRF is accepting of this so the halves are just users. Best if that half had ask for help a lot time.

    • Merritt says:

It it seems to be common in various royal families. Relatives all try to cash in. I’ve heard that Princess Charlene’s family has used her connections for money. Same in Sweden with Princess Sofia’s family.

  5. Abs says:

S’mores aren’t that big in the UK though. I never had them either and don’t feel like I’m missing out. I don’t necessarily like Marshmallows, so roasted Marshmallows with even more sweet stuff doesn’t appeal to me. He also talked about the kids about their mental health, but I guess that’s too boring to report on.

    • Luca76 says:

Marshmallows and s’mores were a huge part of my childhood. Marshmallows in hot choclate , fluff in sundaes yummmy but yes I think as adult that’s way too much sugar. Haven’t had a s’mores in years. (Still love a nice bonfire)

    • Harrierjet says:

I do not get S’mores or even their concept. I remember Americans trying to explain what these were to me once, and…just no. M&S teacakes though…

      • Nora says:

Having moved to North America from Europe, I finally get why real food gets no love over here but everyone is going crazy over stuff like marshmallows. No real food to be found anywhere! I still cant tolerate 95% of the stuff they push to me in the office. No love for marshmallows from me either!

    • AVVSAJNC says:

Yup, s’mores are not a British thing, and besides, you US guys make them with Hersheys, which is not even chocolate. That stuff is VILE. 😛

    • Lavin says:

I’m American and I’ve never had a smore. lol

  6. Raquel says:

Ehhh. I can’t eat marshmallows either. I feel like my face is going to fall off from sugar. Give me a bag of chips any day.

    • jwoolman says:

I like marshmallows toasted and discovered that if I check them very frequently, I can put them in the toaster/convection oven to get all nicely burned and puffy when the craving hits. The marshmallows, I mean. Not me. Not if I’m careful when removing them and don’t eat too many.

  7. Nancy says:

So much fascination for some of us Yanks for the royals. Maybe because we only came close with the Kennedys. Prince Orange, you’re wrong, there can never be anything wrong with melted chocolate and marshmallows. Maybe being a campfire girl helped, but to this day, I love them. We also used to slice a banana, put in pieces of chocolate, wrap in foil and on the broiler to melt (of course this wasn’t on a campfire, but I digress). Rather heavenly, doubt Harry would like it, Sally would.

  8. Enough Already says:

Boomf stock just plummeted. Oh wait…

  9. Merritt says:

Isn’t Princess Pushy already Princess Michael’s nickname?

  10. Princessk says:

@Merritt…..you took the words right out of my mouth! That is what I was going to say….lol!

  11. Enough Already says:

I won’t eat a marshmallow bigger than my thumbnail. Horrible incident at the Godiva shop in NYC involving a huge chocolate covered marshmallow, orthodontic braces, a sugar-cracked out salesgirl and a free sample.
    *stares into middle distance*

    • Bellagio DuPont says:

      @ Enough Already:

      Lmao!!😂😂…….Sorry…….

(Reassuring hug) What happened? With details please……

  12. PettyRiperton says:

Everyone has trashy family members even the gingerbread prince so this is to be expected.

  13. Chaine says:

I so want to believe this is a subtle burn directed at James Middleton and Boomf.

    • KiddVicious says:

LOL! I didn’t think about that. I wonder if Boomf Middleton is trying to get a contract for the wedding to supply marshmallows with Harry and Meghan’s faces on them.

  14. Kate says:

    Agreed. I hate marshmallows too.

  15. Harryg says:

I agree with you, Prince Harry!

  16. Gippy says:

I make my s’mores with Reese’s, Ritz crackers, and perfectly toasted golden with a hint of black marshmallows. They are the best sweet, salty, and crunchy!

    • Bellagio DuPont says:

As a bona fide sugar addict, I’m flabber-whelmed and over-gasted to discover that I didn’t even know that s’mores existed. I feel cheated.

  17. Maren says:

I’m not a Kate fan at all, but there is really no way that Meghan is going to teach Kate anything about being a princess. Come on!! This isn’t Meghan’s country. DId she ever even visit England before Harry? What does she know about the BRF? Most Americans, even very educated ones, know nothing about royalty, British tradition, etc. I have a Masters in British Lit, and I don’t know all that much about modern British royal traditions.
Kate was raised in the country, and while a lazy woman, she does seem to have a grasp of how she should behave, at least. She seems private, not a blabbermouth, keeps her cards very close to her chest. Not a showboat, except with her flying dresses.
And I don’t believe that the Queen and Charles are thrilled with Meghan. They may be going along with Harry, but I bet they are concerned the British public won’t accept an American divorced actress as Harry’s wife and that will cause trouble with the public.

    • notasugarhere says:

Since when is laughing it up at the 9/11 Memorial while wearing a hot pink coat knowing how to “behave”? KM makes plenty of mistakes, even basic protocol ones about who walks first, because she never bothers to learn or pay attention.

The BRF has no stones to throw about divorce and remarriage. Plenty of people in the royal family have married people from other countries, including HM herself.

She’d have to be open to learning, be professional and engaging, and show up for work. Those are things Kate Middleton has yet to be. Beyond that, I can see MM charming people in person just as Camilla has been doing for years.

HM and Charles need someone in the younger generation who will work. I don’t see that being a problem for her.

      • Liberty says:

You had me at “laughing it up at the 9/11 memorial.” 😉

I have every confidence in Meghan’s ability to study learn. She’ll be fine.

My niece seriously thinks that a course of synchronized ice skating lessons might prompt Kate to start thinking like a team player instead of a sort of wandering exhibitionist, and perhaps also be an activity that clicks on some kind of learning mechanism.

I need to ask Sixer if we might add a short skating routine to Harry’s wedding festivities if we get a nice January wedding.

      • Princessk says:

        ”synchronized ice skating lessons ”………LMAO!!

      • Maren says:

Ok, fair points, but you don’t address the fact that as an American, Meghan cannot have any understand of the expectations on the BRF. We Americans just can’t understand that. It is going to be a huge change in her life.

    • Royalsparkle says:

Most dont feel UK GB is waitie kate middleton country either! Maybe Mystique.

Waitie has done NOTHING inspite of a decade connection to a Prince. And lets not get started with helping othets – giving back by any middleton. Especially now waitie muddletons at the expense- using millions of taXpayers Duchy funds for her and the middletons. And all she do is have more kids to burden the Duchy.

Ill take Meg Sparkle long ago/ anytime!

  18. Ladyellismp says:

Blasphemy! This is like if an American had never had a scone – PH and presumably other royal family members do not know what they are missing.

Harry, go camping with RMM and fix this now!

  19. msthang says:

Mississippi Mud Pie!!!! Oooo la la !!!

  20. Maria says:

I read the Hello article. Apparently the two women are already bffs.,which I seriously doubt, and they are a lot alike. Seriously! That’s like the time they said that Waity and CP Mary were alike and leaning on each other. I think Meghan has her own style and her own friends, she doesn’t need Waity to give her advice.
