John Mayer jokes about friend getting his stomach pumped

John Mayer has a weird sense of humor. Okay “weird” might be charitable – according to a lot of people, John Mayer doesn’t have a sense of humor. Though he sure as hell thinks he does. The only thing worse than a stupid person who thinks they’re smart is a dull one who thinks they’re funny. Though I could argue that John’s funny just for the sheer awkwardness he creates. Actually a lot of times I do think he’s funny, which makes me really mad, because I have a policy of disliking him to the max. So when he makes me chuckle I feel sort of cheap and uncomfortable. But I think that’s how he makes most women feel, so it’s probably not that unsettling for John.

Last night Mayer was partying it up at dumbest-named-nightclub-ever, My House, and really enjoying his shots. In fact according to witnesses, he and his friend skateboarder Rob Dyrdek were barely able to stumble out of the club together. Later John Tweeted that Dyrdek was in the hospital getting his stomach pumped, presumably as a result of the night’s debauchery. Turns out he was joking, though it’s safe to assume a lot of people won’t find it funny.

A night of hard partying landed John Mayer in the deejay booth and pal Rob Dyrdek in the hospital … or did it?

The two began the night at Hollywood hot spot My House, where they were seen sharing Corzo tequila shots straight out of the bottle before Mayer launched into an impromptu show.

“The place went nuts!” says a clubgoer of the singer’s performance of his hit “Your Body Is a Wonderland” and rendition of TI and Rihanna’s “Live Your Life.”

But the night ended with the two stumbling out of the club and, according to Mayer’s Twitter, to a hospital: “In triage at Cedars with @Robdyrdek. When the contents of his stomach hit that silicon bag and we all saw it, we just broke into applause.”

Not to worry, Dyrdek didn’t really have to get his stomach pumped. “It was fake, they were just having fun and screwing around for publicity,” a source tells PEOPLE. The skateboarder/reality star was up and running the next day, Tweeting: “A funny night out with @johncmayer.”

Some websites are setting up this story like it’s about to be another “John Mayer is so insensitive” incident. And I guess if you wanted to be super literal, you could take it that way. But you’d have to TRY. From the phrasing about breaking into applause when he saw Dyrdek’s stomach contents, it’s safe to assume Mayer’s being figurative. Though if I had to place bets on any guy who would cheer that on, it’d be Mayer. That joke’s about as clichéd and obvious as if he’d cracked wise about Dyrdek’s liver or something. And while I’ll use any excuse I can to chastise John for being an insensitive douche, I think he was just tacky and lame in this case.
