Lena Dunham believes women, unless they accuse her male friend of rape

20th Annual Webby Awards - Arrivals

Lena Dunham has some disturbing patterns. She’s a narcissist, but it’s more than that: she manages to make every situation about herself and her own drama, and then she acts like “what, who, me?” when people call her out on it. So what would have been another tragic and devastating #MeToo story of a Hollywood man abusing his position and allegedly raping a young actress has now turned into the Lena Dunham Show. The young actress, Aurora Perrineau, has gone to the police and given a statement claiming that Murray Miller raped her when she was 17 years old, back in 2012. Murray Miller was a writer and executive producer on Girls.

Actress Aurora Perrineau has gone to police to accuse “Girls” writer and executive producer Murray Miller of raping her in 2012, when she was 17 years old, TheWrap has exclusively learned. Perrineau, who has appeared in Jennifer Lawrence’s “Passengers” and is the daughter of “Lost” actor Harold Perrineau, told TheWrap she filed a report with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department on Friday.

TheWrap obtained the results of a polygraph test Perrineau said she passed in September in which she detailed her accusations against Murray, who was also a producer on the Fox animated comedies “King of the Hill” and “American Dad.” Miller’s attorney, Matthew Walerstein, said he “categorically and vehemently denies Ms. Perrineau’s outrageous claims” and said his legal team had “gathered overwhelming evidence directly contradicting these false and offensive claims.”

The actress told The Wrap: “I filed a police report today. I cannot talk about the investigation that is happening currently.” She declined further comment.

She said in her statement for the polygraph test that she met Miller while out with some friends at the Standard Hotel, where she “consumed some alcoholic beverages.”

“He was flirting with me. I told him repeatedly that I was 17 years old,” Perrineau said in the statement. The actress was with two friends, she said, and Miller asked one of them for a ride home “because he was drunk,” and the group agreed. Miller was 35 at the time. She said everyone got out of the car at Miller’s home, and she did not want to, but “felt like I had to go along with everyone else. At some point, I woke up in Murray’s bed naked. He was on top of me having sexual intercourse with me. At no time did I consent to any sexual contact with Murray,” she said in the statement. A West Hollywood Sheriff’s office spokesman confirmed the office took the report Friday and said it would be referred to the LAPD.

[From The Wrap]

Miller’s lawyer went to The Wrap and other trade papers and issued a series of denials, claiming that Perrineau is making “outrageous claims” and that she’s only after money and that her statement to the police is, of course, “false.” That would have been the story. That should have been the story: another he said/she said, left to investigate by the police, and yet another woman looking to be believed by the radical shift in the societal narrative around sexual assault, rape and harassment. Unfortunately for everyone, Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner decided to issue a statement defending Murray Miller. Here you go:

“During the windfall of deeply necessary accusations over the last few months in Hollywood, we have been thrilled to see so many women’s voices heard and dark experiences in this industry justified. It’s a hugely important time of change and, like every feminist in Hollywood and beyond, we celebrate. But during every time of change there are also incidences of the culture, in its enthusiasm and zeal, taking down the wrong targets. We believe, having worked closely with him for more than half a decade, that this is the case with Murray Miller. While our first instinct is to listen to every woman’s story, our insider knowledge of Murray’s situation makes us confident that sadly this accusation is one of the 3 percent of assault cases that are misreported every year. It is a true shame to add to that number, as outside of Hollywood women still struggle to be believed. We stand by Murray and this is all we’ll be saying about this issue.”

[From THR]

“Our insider knowledge of Murray’s situation” – what, pray tell, is that insider knowledge? Let me guess: he never tried to rape YOU, therefore he’s not a rapist? That’s like Roy Moore’s wife coming out to say that he never tried anything with her when she was 14, therefore he never molested any 14-year-olds. It literally makes no sense. Again, if you choose to believe your male friend’s story and choose not to believe a young woman who is possibly a victim of rape, that is your choice and your call, and everyone needs to make up their own mind. But you don’t get to wrap up that choice in your white feminist bullsh-t and claim – without any evidence – that the young woman is totally lying. After everyone was like “Jesus, Lena Dunham is THE WORST,” she issued another statement, because clearly, this is ALL ABOUT HER. Here’s her bulls–t apology:

As feminists, we live and die by our politics, and believing women is the first choice we make every single day when we wake up. Therefore I never thought I would issue a statement publically (sic) supporting someone accused of sexual assault, but I naively believed it was important to share my perspective on my friend’s situation as it has transpired behind the scenes over the last few months. I now understand that it was absolutely the wrong time to come forward with such a statement and I am so sorry. We have been given the gift of powerful voices and by speaking out we were putting our thumb on the scale and it was wrong. We regret this decision with every fiber of our being.

Every woman who comes forward deserves to be heard, fully and completely, and our relationship to the accused should not be part of the calculation anyone makes when examining her case. Every person and every feminist should be required to hear her. Under patriarchy, “I believe you” is essential. Until we are all believed, none of us will be believed. We apologize to any women who have been disappointed.

[From THR]

Is she apologizing for being a hypocritical dumbass or is she apologizing for THE TIMING of her rapist apologia? Ugh. Welcome to The Lena Dunham Show, where everything is just the worst.

“As feminists” YOU ARE NOT FEMINISTS. End of story.

Its insane how this person is still allowed a public platform with all the dangerous and stupid crap she has put into this world. She is like a caricature.

Believing women isnt hard, Lena. We’ve unforunately seen this all play out on this very site in the comments, how Franken was defended by women who only days ago talked about how we need to believe women. Posters here tried to poke holes in the stories of those women. Believe women, hm? Glad that it lasted at least a couple of days. Was a nice feeling.

You either believe women or you dont. There is no middle ground, there is no “I believe women, but”. Thats like “Im not a racist, but”. You either believe women or you believe no women. If you consider yourself a feminist the only viable choice is to believe women.

The only tiny tiny bit of good that can come of this is that Lena Dunham is finished forever.

    • Bluesky says:

So,the takeaway is all women should be believed, unless they are a WOC then we should second guess her and call her a liar because she is accusing my white male friend?

      • Kate says:

Exactly Bluesky. I’ve always thought Lena was the poster child for white feminism but even I didn’t believe she would go there.

      • Sixer says:

All citizens who report crimes should be taken at face value until it has been proved that the crime did not take place.

Our default position is to believe people who report a mugging.
Our default position is to believe people who report a burglary.
Our default position is to believe people who report identity theft.
Our default position is to believe people who report ANY CRIME…

… unless it’s rape or sexual assault.

Dunham is just terminally stupid and up herself, isn’t she?

      • Athyrmose says:

        @bluesky exactly

      • Naomi says:

Interesting both Lupita and this young woman are being called liars, both WOC and the default position is to disbelieve their accusations of sexual harassment and rape.

      • Otaku Fairy says:

So tired of her. She’s been very problematic before but I am honestly surprised that she would put out such a terrible statement like this. The fact that she does a complete 180 on her “support women coming forward stance” is when a WOC accuses her friend really does scream “Solidarity is for white women.” This actress should not have to deal with Lena Dunham or any public figure accusing her of lying.

      • ArchieGoodwin says:

        Nailed it, Sixer.

And then we have the White House saying something like “only people who have admitted they committed a crime someone should be investigated” in relation to why Franken should be investigated but Moore should not. Seriously.

You can thank SHS for that tasty nugget.

(plus the added bonus of fact: trump indeed admitted her assaults women)

      • Nicole says:

Basically which is why a LOT of WOC don’t call themselves feminist. The movement never magically seems to include them.
Also Lena has been trash for YEARS

      • Liberty says:

        Sixer, perfectly said.

from what a few interns we work with have told me, this is also the exact nature of the status quo at their universities. Loud party, charges pressed. Car robbed, seriously taken. Mugged walking home, let’s get on this. Rape, move along, honey.

      • Island_girl says:

Sounds right according to the Lena Dunham doctrine.

      • QueenB says:

Of course Lena is racist, thats sadly not shocking with all of what we know of her already.

One WoC writer is now stopping to work with her and is saying that Lenas circle always was full of racists:
        https://twitter.com/zinziclemmons/status/932200880975286273

      • jwoolman says:

We definitely need to take accusations of crime seriously. We need to get to the point where claims of being raped are treated like claims of being the victim of any other crime and encourage early reporting so fresh evidence can be collected.

But we also have to remember the bedrock of our legal system in the US is “innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt”. It is always okay to reserve judgment until there has been sufficient investigation at the very least, if a court case is not feasible. Or until an indisputable number of people come forward with stories reporting the same damned pattern. This isn’t disbelieving the victim. It’s just recognizing that it is definitely easier to judge guilt without a trial when the numbers support it. With only one accuser, we need to look for other corroborating evidence. Unless you really know the accuser personally well enough to be sure or have other personal knowledge of the case that convinces you. Lena may or may not be wrong that she knows this guy well enough to be sure she can believe that he is innocent, but her defense of him is understandable. Not wise, but understandable.

    • detritus says:

It’s such bs. She abused her privilege in every way.
She used her platform to silence and dismiss a younger, less successful, less wealthy, less connected woman, who is also a WoC. To support a white man accused of raping this woman.

I’m just left with the assumption she is so self involved she can’t even see the optics, and doesn’t care about the morals.

      • Agreed. This ultimately only reflects on Dunham herself in her mind. There’s no way she, the outspoken feminist that she is, would ever work with a rapist- therefore he can’t be one. So all this word vomit defending a rapist, is only her thinking of defending herself. She doesn’t give a rat*ss about this creep. Lena only defends Lena and her own MO. At least that was my impression while reading that drivel.

She’s such a nasty little child.

      • Saras says:

Even I am surprised about her WTF statements. Lena is the epitome of white privilege faux feminist especially after this. Boo. Your friendship does not absolve him!

    • Sunglasses Aready says:

Lena, you just fck yourself up.
      You are cancelled.
In situations like this that involves a friend or family member you should start your sentence with “To the best of my knowledge……” The reason why, because in general people have many masks and put on a “different mask dependant on the situation and the people they are surrounded with”. Don’t let blind faith fool you, you sound weak and stupid.

    • Llamas says:

Yep QueenB. People jumping through loops to defend Franken are now criticizing Lena Dunham for the exact same thing they did with the Franken situation. It’s really bad.

      • magnoliarose says:

You should come up with a better example. I don’t need anyone else’s approval about my feminist credibility or my ability to realize the state of politics in the United States at this time or political history.

Roger Stone and Sean Hannity are liars and conspirators knee deep in the Russian collusion scandal. They also smeared Trump’s accusers, and Stone said he had plans to accuse more Democrats along with Alex Jones. Stone had a huge hand in creating lies against HRC including accusing her of being a murderer and running a pedophile ring. He worked with Assange and the Russians to spread fake news and to rig the election. He had moles in the FBI and accused the Clintons of murdering JFK Jr.
Perhaps you are unaware of his history. He has been long associated with the dirtiest operatives in politics and has been connected to Mannafort for decades. He was also chummy with Lee Atwater who was behind the Willie Horton debacle that sunk the Dukakis campaign against George H.W Bush in 1988. Another close pal was Roy Cohn, Joe McCarthy’s right-hand pit bull and was a lawyer for the Gambino crime family and many other mafia figures. He was a member of the very racist radical John Birch society who had been exiled from mainstream conservatism until 2010 when the Tea Party swept the midterms and gerrymandered districts and started an aggressive voter oppression operation. He was an advisor to Nixon and Reagan and lawyer for Rupert Murdoch(Fox) and Donald Trump Sr. and Jr. The Florida recount in 2000 was one of this projects too.
All of them were mixed up in the dirty cabal back in the day with Richard Nixon and schooled in McCarthyist tactics of propaganda and divisiveness.

So to have some misgivings in this climate is not some big statement about feminism. If anything it is trying to make sure it is not used as a weapon by unscrupulous people to destroy a foe for political gain. They have done it before.
Another fact is that 45 HATES Franken and the right despises him for his years of calling them out on Air America. For his hard questions at the hearings. Since I know the history of the players, I know there is nothing too low or lie too outlandish they won’t use to get the result they want. It is a fragile thing at this point and if I pause because of the people associated with someone then guilty. I will continue to be guilty if someone is targeting their enemies only and no one else.

All of these connections involve Russia, Netanyahu, Breitbart and racist politicians. 45 is fulfilling their plans and enriching their sponsors, themselves and their corrupt relationships that include Saudis and dictators. They are stacking the courts with corrupt white supremacists to continue to destroy this country. It may sound hyperbolic, but it isn’t.

Tweeden is associates with these people, so I paused, and I am not sorry and would do it again. You can see why one less Democratic Senator who would vote to impeach is ideal.

If you don’t then that is Sad.

      • QueenB says:

So no believing women then? There is even a picture. How often do you have assault captured on picture? And you still disbelieve her account?
There are no exceptions in I believe women. You cant be a feminist when its convenient.

      • Darla says:

QueenB, we need to stick with facts. There was NO assault depicted in that picture. His hands never touched her. You are misusing words.

      • jwoolman says:

I’m with magnoliarose. There are some puzzling and contradictory aspects of the Franken case that need to be sorted out in an ethics investigation. This is a very different situation with a lot of witnesses who can help sort out what really happened. The two people involved were doing a rehearsal of a passionate kiss for a raunchy USO skit in a combat zone. They were not alone (one of the discrepancies to be resolved, she has apparently claimed otherwise but no USO performer is left alone, the military escort follows you into the bathroom…). There was no power differential. She didn’t want him to do the kiss as she describes and bluntly told him so (don’t blame her if he really did it that way) and he did not repeat it. It sounds more like a conflict between performers of equal power that was resolved at the time. But again, there are witnesses who can help. Watching the video of the show, she was kissing members of the audience and grabbing body parts of other performers, plus she had acting experience in porn. None of this means she didn’t have the right to refuse that particular kiss done in that particular way, but it gives some context about the show, his actions, and her reaction then and over the years. That skit had been done in previous years so it would be helpful to talk with previous people playing the roles.

Franken himself just said he doesn’t remember the rehearsal the same way but did not trash her at all. He may honestly be trying to figure out how he missed entirely how she felt, or maybe the kiss wasn’t quite as she described. Maybe it was but he’s trying to remember all the details himself. Maybe she just was so personally repulsed by Franken from the outset that this colored her perception. Who knows? Trying to figure out what happened exactly and getting testimony from other witnesses and people she told about it will be important.

Another discrepancy that needs to be resolved: she apparently has both said she told others in the cast how she felt, but then said she only told her husband. She felt strongly enough to name Franken directly but then she quickly accepted his apology and said she doesn’t want him to resign and doesn’t want the ethics investigation that he has called for. What exactly was she expecting to happen? He’s a sitting Senator now, not just a dorky comedian and writer. Did she really think he would just be a bit embarrassed with no consequences for his career and his ability to do his job on committees?

There are also some doubts being raised about the idiot picture of him fake groping while she was sleeping in a flak suit. That has to be sorted out. This was a digital picture included on a photo CD of the tour. Cameras time stamp including info about when a photo has been edited. Some people are claiming that picture was edited in later years based on what was posted in digital form. That should be easy to resolve just by checking anybody else’s copy of the 2006 CD. Other witnesses are claiming she was not actually asleep and it was a posed photo. Some people claim you can see evidence of that if you examine the photo closely. True or not? I don’t know. Franken admits it was a really stupid idea and he can see that it was offensive in retrospect. He seems to be careful not to bring up anything that would trivialize her expressed feeling about it, which is wise because even if she went along with it she has the right to feel differently about it later. But we still don’t really know how it happened. This is why an ethics investigation is needed.

Franken has said before that when running for the Senate, there was concern that things he did as a comedian would be used against him. He sees quite a bit of that as something he now feels was offensive rather than funny. I actually wasn’t too fond of him on SNL, I think he’s funnier as a Senator…. But I wouldn’t assume that he’s incapable of change and growth. He certainly has been effective in the Senate. Is he a closet perv? I don’t know.
Yet another reason for an investigation rather than tossing him out in the snow. Ethics investigations have been very useful in the past dealing with far more difficult sexually related issues such as with Barney Frank and Ted Kennedy. I like the idea of making it a normal step for anybody facing such accusations.

A further complication here, of course, is her connection with Fox News, Stone, and Hannity. That doesn’t mean she’s lying. But she is definitely benefiting from the story in a way that other accusers against others are not. Is a book deal really in the offing?!? Considering how anxious the Trumpians are to neutralize Franken, who has been persistently grilling the likes of Sessions, any accusations against Franken have to include such possibilities in their evaluation.

    • ELX says:

I think that all crime victims should be believed, and the crime investigated, remembering also that the accused is innocent until proven guilty. Justice is the result of a legal process not a bunch of social media posts. Denial is part of human nature, too. We never immediately accept that someone we love has committed a crime. It’s easy to ‘cancel’ someone you don’t know and hard to believe the worst of those you do. Mothers are sure their children would never do such a thing, husbands and wives live together for years and have no idea ( What’s that smell? —Oh, it’s the rotting bodies in the garden.), and friends can’t believe it because their friend isn’t like that. I don’t blame Lena Dunham for a natural reaction, BUT when you insinuate in a public statement that you have “inside information,” to the detriment of the accuser, I want to know 1) what is the alleged information, 2) how did Ms. Dunham come by this information, 3) did Ms. Dunham directly witness any pertinent events, and 4) is Ms. Dunham cooperating with the police?

I’m really surprised these two released this statement because they are out on a limb that might get chopped off behind them.

    • Island_girl says:

      Amen. Preach. That.

  2. Miles says:

This is what happens when people continually listen to what Lena Dunham has to say and continually give her a platform. I have been ignoring this woman 25 apologies ago. Others should start doing the same.

    • QueenB says:

“I have been ignoring this woman 25 apologies ago.”
A collection of SOME of her apologies:
      https://twitter.com/jillwklausen/status/932126534353088513

      https://twitter.com/hotmesslie/status/932054501434912768

Its mindblowing how much Lena gets away with. At some point a grown woman like her would realize that maybe something is wrong with her, wouldnt she? Or someone in her life would tell her. (Im seriously side eyeing her boyfriend, you dont stay with someone like that this long if you dont share their opinions.)She learns nothing. Because she doesnt want to.

      • Lola says:

As a black woman I can’t with Dunham and I am so glad Zinzi quit Lenny Letters over this but you linked to us one of those “never Kamala” white women who is acting like the only black female senator is the devil incarnate out of all the effin people in the senate. Hipster racism everywhere…

    • Nicole says:

Yes Miles exactly. You nailed it

    • ellipses says:

      +1000000000
Wannabe troll of every moment: Lena Dunham

    • lucy2 says:

Right? This is hardly the first time she’s said something awful and upsetting, and yet people still inexplicably pay attention to her.
This may be one of the worst things she’s said/done though. It’s truly appalling, and she has made a terrible situation much, much worse for the young woman.

    • I Choose Me says:

Thank you Miles. I thought Lena was canceled long ago. She’s shown her ass time and time again. Wtf is anyone still caring what she has to say?

  3. lana86 says:

this is all very sad. And a result of the fact that rape accusations can seldomly be proven; and that requiring definite proof would actually be doubly traumatizing to the victim (you should not wash, and go to police straight away, right?- thats horrible)
But also its a grave accusation that can destroy someone’s career, reputation, life. And it can hardly be disproven. And , of course it can be used by someone wanting to damage / hurt a person.
The only cases that are obvious beyound doubt are 1)when the guy admits or 2)when the reports are multiple.
Hopefully, in future there will be invented new ways of proving things like that.

    • millie says:

when there is obvious violence involved and it is reported immediately?

    • Otaku Fairy says:

I’m surprised that over the past 6 weeks or so we haven’t yet heard any famous abuser come out and confess anything before an accusation could come out and cry ‘repentance.’ But that seems like the one situation where people wouldn’t rush to say ‘innocent until proven guilty’ or ‘some women do lie’.

    • Crina says:

The only inside information she could have is that she was with him the night in question, all the time- which I don’t think is the case

  4. Beth says:

Ignorant bitches like her are why sexually abused women are sometimes to scared to tell anyone about what happened to them

  5. Clare says:

    Honestly, F her.

Women, by virtue of their gender, are not immune from being assholes and apologists. Current prime examples being Ms Dunham and Mrs Moore.

  6. Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

I have never ever wanted to slap a ‘celebrity’ so much as her after reading that. She really is disgusting.

She’s not and never will be a feminist – she’s an attention seeking idiot who is so full of her privilege.

    • BengalCat2000 says:

100%. She’s Never lived in the real world.

    • minx says:

The “half a decade” remark is so pretentious…who talks like that?! She think it’s a more impressive way of saying more than 5 years. Big deal!

      • Sophia's Side eye says:

IMO, it was to make it seem as though they’ve known, or worked with their predator friend for a lot longer than they actually have. The statement is manipulative. Meanwhile, the assault took place five years ago, which means Lena barely new him at all at the time the incident occurred.

      • magnoliarose says:

I know. She is very manipulative and pretentious.

      • Alison says:

Yes!! I noticed that too. Half a decade wowww what an incredibly long time.

  7. Dixiebells says:

Why did she have to say anything publically at all? Like fine the guy is your friend and maybe you have some inside info on the situation. A.) I doubt it and believe Aurora. And B.) even if Lena’s belief WAS true why shame this woman with this “sadly this is part of the 3%” bullshit. Like wtf. Maybe keep whatever special details you seem to think you know to yourself and NOT contribute to a culture that makes it impossible for victims to come forward.

    • emma33 says:

Yes! This is what I was thinking. There is absolutely no up-side to speaking publicly about this unless Lena Dunham was in the room when the incident took place and has some concrete evidence to point to whether it was rape or not. Unless that is her ‘insider knowledge’, then she should sit down and be quiet and wait for the police to investigate. Not everything needs a twitter commentary. And wtf was that about the 3%!!?? My god…

    • Jellybean says:

This was posted in another comment section …….It is clear the Aurora and her family are keeping quiet due to the police investigation. but this was posted by one of her father’s closest friends – “This crazy fake feminist is calling the most pure, loving and honest person I know a liar. She knows zero facts, has no idea this was all started before Harvey, has no idea this mother fucker was sobbing like a child yesterday while he offered Aurora money to sweep it under the rug. Lena, you have been proven a liar in your book, about anything to advance your shit career. May you enjoy hell. Along with you pal #MurrayMiller. And your show #girls fucking sucked. #fakefeminist #awfulpieceofshit #lenadunham @lenadunham”. I think he is a bit angry.

      • Darla says:

        WOW.

      • Jellybean says:

Wow indeed. This young woman is far from friendless in Hollywood and apparently her mother has vehemently denied that any demand for money has been made by Aurora or her legal team. SInce Miller has made great claims about the evidence he has proving his innocence, it might be very interesting if it goes to court. If they cannot prove she was forcibly raped, there is still statutory rape and if his ‘evidence’ is not forthcoming maybe she could sue him for deformation of character. I know deformation of character seems minor compared to rape, but when it is so difficult to prove rape it would be an important victory. I am sick of comments passed to the press which make claims and accusations and then disappear with no acknowledgement; they are what people remember. Maybe she can make him eat his words and the next person will think twice before trying to intimidate or shame a woman into silence.

      • magnoliarose says:

Thanks for posting that. Lena is a garbage person, and she has a history of racist crap so of course, she thinks her white self has more believability. I loathe this woman.

      • ellipses says:

I wish every victim had at least one friend like this.

    • Alexis says:

      Exactly. Perfectly stated.

      • Ktgreat says:

I have read that Aurora passed a lie detector test as well.

      • Jellybean says:

I read the lie detector report. Apparently you need 6+ for it to be probable that you told no lies and she got 18+. Unfortunately I don’t think it counts in a court of law. One of the papers got the transcript so maybe they submitted the expert testimony on the test with her statement to the police. It seems that anything officials get hold of in LA end up with the press by the end of the day.

      • GreenTurtle says:

I believe Aurora. I do want to point out that polygraphs are junk science, though- for general consumption. They’re often effective at pressuring guilty people to admit crimes, because of the tense nature of the test itself, but the readings themselves as an indicator of thruthfulness has been widely derided. The simple fact that she wanted to come forward and take one is the more important indicator of her honesty, in my eyes.

  8. Stef Leppard says:

“…having worked closely with him for more than half a decade…”

I’ve worked with him for six whole years, y’all, so I KNOW that he would never rape anyone. Duh.

    • Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

Am sure somewhere in her head she’s thinking ‘why didn’t he try that with me? Am i not thin or pretty enough for him?”. Remember her comments about that young man at her table at the Met Gala.

      • QueenB says:

Oh god yes. If there is one woman who would write an essay about how a serial rapist didnt rape her and it makes her feel unattractive its Lena. “I dont want to take anything away from these brave women, but…ME ME ME ME ME”

      • Sixer says:

This makes me feel a little bit sick, but that’s because it’s close to the bone.

      • Darla says:

Digital Unicorn, I almost laughed reading your post, not because any of this is funny, but because that is SO Lena. You’re right.

      • Otaku Fairy says:

Sharon Osbourne said something similar about Harvey Weinstein. (To her credit, she at least didn’t defend him or discredit any of his victims). She said she wondered why he had never behaved that way toward her in a ‘What’s wrong with me?” kind of way but then chalked it up to her presenting as a ‘tough woman you don’t mess with.”

      • magnoliarose says:

Of course she is. Part of her whole facade is her unattractive appearance that she exaggerates so she can seem more real and feminist. She thinks it makes her more relatable.

    • QueenB says:

This is such a disgusting spin. “Half a decade”. To make it sound way longer than it was. Also it obviously doesnt matter if she worked with him for 50 years anyway but she clearly is spinning it.

      • Stef Leppard says:

        @queenb
THIS. There are people married to serial rapist for 40 years who had no inkling that they were married to a psychopath. Working next to someone for “half a decade” is meaningless. Who the f@ck does she think she is?

    • Patricia says:

Yeah that “half a decade” is so extra and manipulative and just annoying. Do you think you sound smart, Lena?

  9. Clare says:

Also who the fuck is ‘celebrating’ these revelations/accusations. Personally the last thing I feel is joy or celebration, when I hear about yet another women who has been a victim. What is there to celebrate, especially given none of the predators have actually had to face any actual consequences yet?

    • Esmom says:

Yeah, her comment about being “thrilled” that so many women were coming forward really grated on me. She’s either tone deaf or really just that clueless.

I can’t imagine how Perrineau felt when Lena threw her under the bus.

    • magnoliarose says:

It isn’t thrilling. It is sad and heartbreaking. There most likely isn’t a lot that can be done about the past abuses but we can change now and the future. We can educate victims on the correct protocol so that there is a paper trail. This way we can make sure no one can say why didn’t she tell anyone. An advocacy group would be great to give support and help the victims through the process.
We need to change the system and burn the old one to the ground.

      • jwoolman says:

Sometimes I think “welcome to becoming a woman” kits should include rape kits and information on rape and sexual harassment protocols along with samples of pads and tampons…. Might be too much for a ten year old but really, they need to be prepared.

  10. Bobbymilly says:

Lena Dunham is trash wrapped around privilege.

People do crap and most times their friends never know because no one is with each other 24hours

    • lucy2 says:

Trash wrapped around privilege, dipped in racism and sprinkled with narcissism.

      • I Choose Me says:

Trash wrapped around privilege, dipped in racism, sprinkled with narcissism served with a side of malice.

I find her to be malicious and manipulative on top of everything else.

  11. MI6 says:

Meritless accusations can of course be made, but the hypocrisy is astounding.

  12. Radley says:

There is no excuses for this. “Insider information”???? B!tch were you under the bed?? She’s awful. She’s disturbed in her own right, so it’s unfortunate that she’s been elevated like she’s some young icon and role model.

Also, didn’t her own sister write about how Lena sexually assaulted her? Birds of a feather. I wish this were a career ender for her, but probably not.

  13. Kate says:

Of course, the accuser is a black woman. Of course Miss-I-created-a-show-taking-place-in-Brooklyn-with-zero-WOC-and-why-is-this-black-man-not-obsessed-with-me-at-the-Met-Gala chose to call a black woman a liar! Of f*cking course! She is LOATHSOME.

    • Radley says:

Interesting point. She’s a person that has so many issues that you really wish she didn’t have a public platform to constantly air them.

    • MellyMel says:

      All of this!! She’s trash!

    • Otaku Fairy says:

And Aroura’s wealth and fame weren’t even enough to protect her from being one of the few (or possibly only) famous victims to individually get publicly accused of lying by an A-list feminist in this country.

      • magnoliarose says:

Gross and Lena is a racist. She has proven it over and over. Thankfully she is being torn to shreds, and I hope every. Single. Time. This fool speaks she gets the same treatment. How about she is canceled forever.

  14. Rachel says:

    She’s just a parody. She’s absurd.

    • Kate says:

You’re right Rachel. She really is a parody of herself at this point, from the inserting herself into a story that wasn’t even about her to the woe is me apology.

  15. grabbyhands says:

Quelle surprise. Once again Lena Dunham shows why she is the poster child for white feminism.

I want to say I don’t understand why more women in Hollywood don’t come out and condemn this trick’s bullshit (basically every single time she opens her mouth) but then I remember how many actresses continue to defend Woody Allen and Roman Polanski with weak defense.

Her defense was horrible, her explanation even worse and then her apology just hit def con 10 on the roll your eyes o meter. Then to push the whole thing into supernova she gets one of her male buddies who also worked with this guy to post on Twitter that he also believes Murray and no one comes after him because POOR LENA has to deal with sexism.

But you know what, just keep tweeting yourself into hypocritical, obnoxious irrelevancy. The only noteworthy thing you’ve ever done is Girls and that’s over. Hopefully soon people will completely stop giving anything you say press.

    • QueenB says:

“and no one comes after him because POOR LENA has to deal with sexism.”
Ugh. Its not sexism because first of all the dude is way too irrelevant for anyone to notice. Second: Its not sexism to attack a woman that defends rapists. Quite the opposite actually. Stop using feminist vocabulary to defend from your own sexism.

      • Otaku Fairy says:

“Stop using feminist vocabulary to defend from your own sexism. ” Agree that that needs to end.

      • ellipses says:

Um… Is this directed at Dunham? Because maybe I’m misreading grabbyhands’ post, but isn’t that what they’re saying? Dunham trotting out FEMINISM! whenever she’s criticized to undermine legitimate critique and calling out her bs.
Ugh. She just disgusts me. I agree with grabby, the sooner people just stop giving her attention the better (I need to start practicing what I preach).

  16. Patty says:

Eh. She’s defending her friend and at least she’s honest. We can hashtag #believeher all day long but let’s be real here for most women this willl only extend to believing accusations against men they don’t know!

I have a hard time believing that any woman would automatically believe an accusation against their own husband, son, father, brother, friend, pastor, etc. No unless, you knew or were aware that they had done something – you’d probably believe your husband, son, father, brother, friend, etc and defend them.

This is of course the major flaw in the argument that we should believe all women. Women aren’t being honest, because again, there are very few women who are going to believe an accusation against their own. Instead, the likelihood is that you too, like Lena will say that this is an exception!

I would. I have some great male friends who I’ve known for ages, great uncles, and male cousins and I would have a hard time believing it that any of them would be capable of sexaul assault because I know them.

    • Sixer says:

In the UK, we call this “not my Nigel”.

    • QueenB says:

“I have a hard time believing that any woman would automatically believe an accusation against their own husband, son, father, brother, friend, pastor, etc. No unless, you knew or were aware that they had done something – you’d probably believe your husband, son, father, brother, friend, etc and defend them. ”

This is exactly what we are trying to change at the moment. Of course women right now dont always do that. Otherwise we wouldnt be in this crap. If you have been indoctrnated to mistrust women its no wonder and its something everyone needs to work through.

I mean there were women who campaigned hard against the voting rights for women. That was also normal at the time. Its part of the design.

I dont have a lot of confidence that it will happen, again you see a lot of self described feminists trying to poke holes into the accounts of women but its the only way to help victims. The feminist imperative is to always believe women.

“I have some great male friends who I’ve known for ages, great uncles, and male cousins and I would have a hard time believing it that any of them would be capable of sexaul assault because I know them. ”
Statistically most of them will have assaulted at least one woman and yet you still side with them. Every rapist has some woman that thinks they are great. If you want to do better side with victims not with the men in your life.

      • Patty says:

No. Statistically most of them haven’t assaulted a woman. That’s an outlandish claim to make.

There are usually about 100K reported rapes in the US each year. Rape is usually underreported. I believe the general rule is something like only 25-30% of rapes are reported. So if 100K are reported that would put the actual number at about 400K. There are roughly 150 million or so men in the US.

You do understand that not all men are rapists? And who the hell wants to live in a world where the assumption is always going to be that your brother, father, son, uncle, grandfather is a presumptive rapist. That’s not feminism.

My only point was that we need to be honest ourselves and admit that there are very few women who would automatically believe an allegation against a member of their tribe so to speak – so it’s not surprising that Lena is defending her friend. And her word choice was interesting “insider information”? I’m like what kind of insider info does she have….is he a eunuch or something.

      • Nic919 says:

Patty I agree. It is really easy to believe that a strange man is a rapist, but a close friend or family member is different. It’s normal human psychology and pretending that it can be overturned is a waste of time. However, there is a way to deal with that and it is to shut the hell up publicly and not do what Lena Dunham has done. It is indefensible to turn this into a feminist thing. The honest response would simply to shut up or say the courts are dealing with it. She is always up her own ass and never learns.

      • KBB says:

@Patty the only thing that comes close to a defense that I’ve heard is him claiming she asked for money before she went to the police. Her family has adamantly denied that.

I’m guessing he found out she was going to the police and went into damage control mode and started telling his Hollywood friends he was being shaken down.

Her dad starred in Oz and Lost and she’s got several movies coming up. She doesn’t need to shake anybody down for money.

      • blogdis says:

        @Patty
As a survivor of childhood sexual assault I learned the hard way that it wasn’t just strangers or obvious weirdos that could hurt you but the nice lovable guys that every body liked and would believe over you. I also know the shame , guilt and blaming that comes with admitting to assault, this is why I am inclined to give women the benefit of the doubt unless categorically proven otherwise

That said you can imagine my mental conflict when someone who has always treated me with the utmost love kindness and respect was accused of assaulting someone we both knew
You know what I didn’t publicly discredit his accuser. I didn’t make it about my feelings of conflict , instead I silently hoped prayed for truth and justice to prevail. And this is where Lena went wrong why did she have to insert hersel publicY in the middle of this.?. She didn’t just say “this is inconsistent with the person I know but since my stance has always been to believe wome I trust that justice truth will take its course ”

NOPE she actually flat out called his accuser a liar! Bear in mind that unlike you she is apublic figure who has ALWAYS been outspoken about how Women should be always believed
WHat is different now the accused is her friend ? the accuser is a WOC ? It not just about supporting a loved one it’s her blatant hypocrisy plus the arrogant self involved way she went about it . ALL sorts of wrong

      • QueenB says:

@Paty: “And who the hell wants to live in a world where the assumption is always going to be that your brother, father, son, uncle, grandfather is a presumptive rapist. That’s not feminism.”

We all already live in that world. Every men is a potential rapist. Schroedingers rapist. Google it.

“My only point was that we need to be honest ourselves and admit that there are very few women who would automatically believe an allegation against a member of their tribe so to speak”
Again: We are hopefully on our way of changing that. I understand why women do that because we have all been indoctrinated not to believe women and to not see a womans word as enough evidence.
There already is backlash, right wing of course but even in feminist circles but we’ll need to push back.
If you are a feminist believe women, no matter your relationship to the man accused.

      • Wurstfingers says:

“And who the hell wants to live in a world where the assumption is always going to be that your brother, father, son, uncle, grandfather is a presumptive rapists”

        — Well, some of us don’t have actually a choice but to live in a world where we KNOW that our fathers, brothers, uncles, grandfather’s, etc. are rapists. As a survivor of child sexual abuse, I live in that world since I was six years old.

      • JosieH says:

“Every men is a potential rapist.”

So is every woman. Every man is a potential murderer. So is every woman.

“Potential” doesn’t mean a darn thing. It’s what we do that matters.

    • SilverUnicorn says:

      @Patty

This is a very sweeping generalisation to make:

“you’d probably believe your husband, son, father, brother, friend, etc and defend them.”.

It implies we all live in happily families. I’d defend probably only my husband, because he’s caring and lovely.
A big majority of my relatives were abusive, above all my father who beat us like crap and abused us for all our lives (even if, from some point on, only verbally and psychologically).
My brother is, generally, non-abusive but he suffers from schizophrenia and has bouts of personality crisis, I wouldn’t defend him either as he might have attacked someone whilst ‘living in another personality’ and wouldn’t even remember it.

Of course I would believe the women in most cases. And even if the accusation was against my husband, it’d take time to me to process it but I would use my critical thinking first, not calling the accuser a liar straightaway.
Firsthand experience of not being believed by relatives and friends, as I am a rape survivor. I wouldn’t ever treat another woman that way.

Not all men are rapists, correct, but the ones who are don’t sport a tag ‘I’m a rapist’. My rapist was a stellar member in his family.

*You just never know*. Women need to stop living in denial.

      • Esmerelda says:

I agree, I would believe accusations against my family members. It’s not that I think they are particularly monstrous people, I just recognise that we have all been raised in a very misogynistic environment. It’s not difficult to believe that the notion that women are property / objects may have been carried out to extreme lengths by some of them. I might simply go with ‘no comment’ and wait for the courts, but to defend someone when you have no actual and factual information on a specific event is intellectual laziness.

      • Patty says:

I said probably not that anyone definitely would. And history has shown us that women almost always rally around their men; to pretend otherwise is naive. I’m pointing out the way the world is not the way you want to pretend it is.

Real change cannot happen until we are willing to face how things are and work from there.

      • It seems as “If it was your father, brother etc” is the new “innocent until proven guilty” argument some are adopting and it is so transparent.

      • magnoliarose says:

Silverunicorn I am glad you survived such a horrible childhood. But it pisses me off that children aren’t protected more or that something isn’t done. I don’t know the answer, but I wish you hadn’t experienced that. I may sound like a Pollyanna but even trying to imagine what you endured is scary. Hugs and continued healing and I hope you are ok. It seems like you have a lovely hubby. 🙂

I would have a hard time, but I would certainly keep it to myself to process. It would hurt to realize someone you loved was capable of being cruel but at the end of the day, it should never be outright dismissed on the word of the accused. SOMEONE is committing these crimes, and they have family and friends too.
As a mother of sons I try to teach them the right way to behave, but if I found out one of them did this, I would call the police myself. I would never hide or pay big money to defend him if it were the truth. If he were accused, I would keep my mind open and investigate, and I wouldn’t mistreat the victim. These kinds of parents who defend their criminal offspring create monsters that continue to hurt others.
It would hurt but we see what complicity does, and we can’t change the system if we aren’t willing to do the hard stuff.

    • Mia4s says:

The problem is that when the Weinstein issues broke all this wide open she rushed forward to be a “voice for women!!” and “feminist leader!” publicly and now turns on a woman publicly because it’s inconvenient for her life and narrative. She personally doesn’t believe it. He is her friend. OK. She does not have to condemn him, but she invalidates all her early editorializing with this nonsense she wrote. Here, let me rewrite her statement simply so she does not look like a raging hypocrite:

“I am shocked and deeply sad to hear about this situation. I have worked with Murray for six years and he is my friend. Needless to say this greatly troubles me. I will not be making any further statement while we await the outcome of what I hope will be a thorough and fair investigation. I continue to encourage all women to come forward and tell their stories.”

      She’s an idiot.

      • lucy2 says:

That is exactly what she should have done. Or said nothing, because the world does not need Lena’s opinion on every single f’ing thing.

I can understand being stunned and not wanting to believe it’s someone you know/love. I can understand doubting the accuser. I can understand trying to be supportive for the person you love who has been accused. But I CANNOT understand using your very public platform to claim “insider knowledge” and declare this young woman to be a false accuser. Lena is not the police, not the judge, not the jury, and throwing this “false accusation” BS out there seriously undermines all of the other victims who are feeling brave enough to come forward right now.

    • Katherine says:

Oh ffs, if I hear about spouses and sons one more time… Anybody could turn out to be a monster, what a naive thing to assume that no one’s loved one has ever raped anybody

      • QueenB says:

It really is shocking how women are trained to jump to the defense of men. Even self described feminists. If you choose your husband over a woman accusing him you are not welcome in the movement.

      • ell says:

‘Anybody could turn out to be a monster’

this. maybe because i’m a survivor myself, but i would definitely believe it if ANY of the men i love in my life were accused of assault. why? because everyone is capable of doing horrible things all the time, and especially when it comes to SV many men have zero clue what consent is. i’m not saying it wouldn’t be extremely difficult, painful, and disappointing but i would believe it nonetheless.

    • CynicalAnn says:

Oh ffs. Besides being insensitive and hypocritical, she’s just an idiot.

      • magnoliarose says:

Pretty simple. Something is wrong with her though. I am not sure what but I don’t think there is medication for it.
Haven’t seen you around so Hiya.

      • CynicalAnn says:

        @MR-waving! A lot of Thanksgiving prep around here . . .

    • Tulip Garden says:

      @Patty,
Thank you for your honest comment. I believe the that the majority of women would privately, if not publically, defend the male in their life. That is not condoning or condemning anyone. It is simply a difficult, uncomfortable truth for most, not all, but most.
Also there is a spectrum of behaviors that are being discussed from the less serious, non-criminal “inappropriate language” to “inappropriate touching” like a lingering hug, to criminal offenses like exposure and outright rape. Of course, lesser offenses, while disgusting, are more easily believed by loved ones maybe because those behaviors can be shamed into extinction, hopefully.
Lastly, Dunham i have no time for at all under any circumstances and never have. I haven’t ever seen Girls and won’t ever. Lena own narcissism put me off of her almost immediately. Lastly, even in this situation, Dunham doesn’t really have a horse in this race but she had to insert herself. I’ve got socks older than her relationship with this man, basically a co-worker. This isn’t her brother, father, husband, or anyone she could possibly claim to know with enough intimacy that her “statement” holds any value whatsoever.
I hope no one is offended by my statements. I simply think that this conversation is too important to put a stop to. If we stop at “believe all women”, while a valid statement, it is ignoring that, while admirable, for the loved ones of the accused, especially one time or first time, offenders this is unrealistic. I don’t think these people should be vilified. Perhaps, they need sympathy and supprt, maybe educating but they are not the criminals. Also, I am not referring to Hollywood’s Sexual Predator Apocolypse. I am referring to the everyday citizens.

      • blogdis says:

        @ Tulip
Even as an assault survivor myself I never toed the party line of “believe all women ” instead I always maintained that women should be given the benefit of the doubt unless proven otherwise . What Patty doesn’t get this is not simply someone choosing to believe thier loved one , this is apublic figure who has gone on the record of “believe all women for years ” now saying the opposite because the accused is her friend ? And the victim is a WOC ? .

Lena publicly inserted herself when she could have just quietly supported her friend in private , she even went as far as calling the then 17 yo a liar. Nope just nope

      • Tulip Garden says:

        Blogdis,
Thank you for your reply. I am sorry that you, or anyone, has experienced assault. I hope you were believed and that you have found peace in your life. Personally, I have suffered subtle and in your face sexual harassment at various jobs (lost one because spoke out), and the sadly usual inappropriate touching in social situations. I would never call any of these situations assault because true assault victims don’t need my comparatively piddly ass situations muddying the waters. I believe it all should be abolished, of course.
As far as Dunham, yes she is unequivocally wrong. She jumped on this platform but the second she didn’t like the consequences, she attempted to put a match to, insultingly, one accuser. Not the whole platform because it is her talking point just that one bothersome accuser! Her stupidity, short-sightedness, and narcissism is jaw droppingly horrendous. It would be funny if it weren’t about someone else’s actual life and devastating experience.

    • Otaku Fairy says:

If a brother or father was accused of sexual assault or domestic violence, many of us at first probably would mentally find it hard to imagine. I’ll admit that (and speaking of which, I can’t get behind the outrage directed at Nicki Minaj for not having a nice, groveling soundbite instantly ready to serve the public over her brother raping a child). But there’s a difference between individuals having to come to terms with something within the privacy of their own minds, vs. coming out to paint a victim as some rare, untrustworthy, thirsty lying sociopath in everybody else’s minds. Lena had the option of doing the former, but she chose to do the latter.

      • Tulip Garden says:

Well put and I agree completely. I do not expect Minaj to speak On this Issue at all. If at some point, Nicki wants To constructively contribute To the conversation then That is fine. I Know very little about her but this has probably been devastating for her. First We the accusations and then the damming testimony of those poor kids. That is a Lot for someone to process about a loved one and She is not obligated to process It and speak about it publicly on anyone else’s time table. Minaj Didn’t Do these crimes and She shouldn’t Have too suffer for them. I mean i am sure she is suffering but She doesn’t Owe us performative suffering To satisfy people.

    • African Sun says:

Your comment made my day Patty. I could not agree more.

There are many people being pretentious about this. I am not a Lena fan at all but she is defending her friend which is a natural reaction.

    • Krakken says:

      PAtty.
No not everyone. I chose to believe the accuser of my cousin over my rapist cousin. I only wish I had the chance to express that to her but she killed herself before anyone in my family chose to have a conversation about it.
The defense you are making is a defense of what needs to change. You may think you are ‘just sayin’ or such. But yeah. We’ve heard your message.
Repeating it is literally perpetuating rape culture.

  17. JosieH says:

“Until we are all believed, none of us will be believed.”

That is so deep, Lena. Derp.

  18. Franny Days says:

Probably pregnancy hormones but reading her defense of her friend makes me so freaking angry. Her hypocrisy is seriously something else. She has no right to call herself a feminist.

    • Izzy says:

No, it’s not pregnancy hormones. I nearly had a rage stroke reading Lena Dumbham’s word salads about this.

      • Ankhel says:

To publicly state that this girl is falsely reporting something so serious and hurtful, when Dumbham can’t possibly know what happened… It’s outrageous! She’s a bullshit person, an abuser, and a traitor to feminism.

        … I’m angry too, yes.

      • lucy2 says:

Me too, and the more I think about it, the angrier I get.

  19. Margo S. says:

I actually hate her. And I don’t typically hate women these days. If someone you “know” is convicted of rape, maybe take a step back from. That friendship and reevaluate that…

    • magnoliarose says:

I think I hate her too. No other famous woman makes me as ragey and physically angry as she does.

  20. monette says:

Seat your a** down! I wanna say I can’t believe she did what she did, but then again she was always complicated. She rubbed me the wrong way, but I always gave her another chance becuase she always apologized and seemed to want to be better, understand more.
But she is clearly an idiot. I hope you loose your platform, Lena. The world doesn’t need you and your buddy Emoji Snake’s white feminist bulls****.
    Bye!!!!!

  21. Tiffany27 says:

Who is her base? Why is she still a thing?

    • minx says:

      My question, too.

    • magnoliarose says:

A large number of Taylor Swift fans and Lena fans are part of the same demographic. She is for girls who want the fashionable badge of feminism without thought or challenge. They can still be part of the patriarchy but excuse themselves because you know Taylor sang it and Lena said it. The same people who only like white rappers and think they are hip-hop fans.

  22. JT says:

Lena is so dumb! I can’t stand her

  23. Bettyrose says:

“Half a decade” <– that's my favorite tidbit. Laid down as though working with someone on and off for five years equals a deep, spiritual connection.

  24. Nicole says:

Lena is a manipulative POS that constantly degrades people of color with her crap. Please just look at a fraction of the crap she’s said in the last 3 years or so. She’s been cancelled.
This is how feminism doesn’t include women of color. Why most of the accusers are white. Because people like her discredits ONE of the two WOC that have stepped forward. It’s incideous but an indication of a larger trend. No one listens to WOC until a white woman says it. It’s honestly exhausting to see this pattern play out over and over.

    • magnoliarose says:

Truth and it is disgusting. She is the poster child for the problem.

    • ellipses says:

Absolutely. All that shit about this being one of those 3% made up – this is just another one of the 99% made up attacks on victims.
Guess she thinks 3% of rape accusations come from POC. Such a racist sack of ****.

  25. Eveil says:

Maybe instead of always airing her dirty laundry, she should be scrubbing at those stains on her soul instead. What a pitiful woman. I didn’t even bother getting angry as this is bread and butter for this woman. SMDH.

  26. Oliviajoy says:

I detest Lena Dunham. She is always an epic asshole. She has the specialist snowflake syndrome. She thinks shes the smartest, funniest, most talented person around but she is a terrible example of a woman, and she is not now nor has she ever been a feminist. She’s an asshole, a big one.

    • emma33 says:

And now she’ s applying the special snowflake syndrome to her friends as well. She believes all women except in this one ‘special’ case. And, not being content to keep her subjective opinion to herself, for some unfathomable reason she sees a need to get on Twitter and start broadcasting her very important opinions about a matter that is under police investigation. It really doesn’t get more special than that.

  27. Jordan says:

    “But”
    Ah, so you don’t!

  28. Ugh. This trash can. Has anything out of her mouth at anytime been genuine and not self serving? The answer is no. And this ‘apology’? Trash. She really blamed it on poor timing, I don’t think she’s sorry for her actual statement at all. She’s sorry she’s getting dragged for her ‘honesty’. What a fool.

  29. Lukie says:

I am shocked it hasn’t been mentioned that Aurora’s father is Harold Perrineau, the actor that told the stories from the wheelchair in Oz, was in The Matrix, played Michael Dawson on Lost, Sons of Anarchy, Claws…

She doesn’t need Murray Miller’s money and she damn sure didn’t need his rapey self for an acting role either. Anything I say about Lena Dunham will set off comment alarms, so I will leave it at “the trick is trash”.

*edited to say I just saw it was mentioned in the article*

  30. JRenee says:

Truly narracist, priviledged and ignorant. You have made some very good points. I hope someone publicly puts this in perspective for her. Trash

  31. Mia says:

Never liked her. And I don’t understand why she is giving a platform to speak on issues like these. She can make every excuse in the book and try and downplay it but the fact remains that she sexually abused her younger sister.

  32. Lindy says:

I’ve never watched her show and never found things she’s said in interviews all that interesting or groundbreaking. Just haven’t paid much attention to her at all, really. But this is straight up wrong. Just nope. I believe her… Unless she’s a WOC and/or we’re talking about my white male dude bro friend. Then I don’t believe her. This woman needs to go away.

    • Harryg says:

I never understood why people thought she was any kind of groundbreaker! She said/did NOTHING new.

  33. Electric Tuba says:

I will be boycotting anything even remotely touching this trash hampster until the day I die. The same with Woody Allen, Brett Ratburger, The Assflack brothers, anyone related to Weinstein or his brother, and any other sick sack of waste that can’t keep their hands to themselves or tries to declare themselves the “voice” of any generation.
I have my own voice thank you very much you ridiculous garbage pail kid reject.

    Uuuuggggghhhhhhhhhhh

Now if you will excuse me I’m going to watch The Great Pumpkin on loop because I just like it and it soothes me. I don’t know why.

  34. Kendra says:

Lena is truly a crappy person but honestly there ARE women who lie about it and falsely accuse. I’m not saying Perrineau did that but that statement from Lena seems confident that she knows the facts about what really went on. Perhaps there is irrefutable evidence that Perrineau consented or some kind of video of the incident Perrineau is not aware of. We don’t know. It’s important to believe victims but it’s also important to provide solid proof of the occurrence that is not “my word vs his” type stuff.

    • Bettyrose says:

      Kendra,
She filed a police report and passed a lie detector test. A conviction without DNA is iffy. But this young woman put herself in the line of public scrutiny, as well as at risk for false reporting charges, and a career ruining reputation as a troublemaker. Yeah, she might be lying. But she’s risking a lot if she is.

    • graymatters says:

Police do consider that in many cases. In theft, for instance, both the police and insurance companies will investigate the victims — just in case they’re lying — as well as follow other leads equally vigorously. Sexual assault, though, is the only crime in which the general public often jumps to that premise. I’m glad Aurora’s family believes her. I hope she gets justice.

  35. paranormalgirl says:

She has always been cancelled for me.

  36. alternative fact says:

I hope there is plenty of criticism for Jenni Konner (sp?) as well. After all, the original (awful) statement was a joint effort. Konner should not remain unscathed just because she is not as well known as Lena.

  37. Madly says:

After what she did to her sister, why is anyone listening to her?

  38. Maria says:

This disappoints me so much. I haven’t been sexually assaulted (thank god), but guys have leaned out of their car windows to wolf-whistle at me and harass me since I was 14 years old. It’s disgusting.

I don’t care how much Ms Dunham advocates for feminism – if she defends perpetrators of sexual assault, then she is evil. Period.

  39. J.Mo says:

She’s so narcissistic that I keep waiting for her to announce it and detail her therapy to treat the problem. Oh, and to apologize for it.

  40. Valiantly Varnished says:

Let’s talk about Lena’s long history of minimizing WOC. The victim is a WOC. Lena seems to always be able to beat her faux feminist drum when it comes to white women. Everyone else? Not so much. She is the epitome of white feminism.

  41. Vox says:

I think it’s important to believe victims of sexual assault, period. As someone said, we believe people when they say they’re the victim of a mugging or a robbery so we should believe people regardless of sex or colour when they say they are victims of sexual assault.

I was a bit grossed out by how Terry Crews came forward and people here said he was a hero for speaking out (great!) but also that he was sexy (which probably wouldn’t be taken too well had it been a female celebrity admitting to being a sexual assault victim and people talked about her sex appeal), but nobody said those three words – I believe him. At least not at the time I read the comments. Certainly there was nobody there who disbelieved him but those words are important to say whoever the victim is, surely?

I believe in calling out inequality as I see it and I make it my sincere aim to fight for equality for people in all areas where they are unequal. I see that as being part and parcel of being a proud feminist.

Lena is the f*cking worst. I have never seen her NOT make a situation about herself. I had no idea the victim was of a different ethnicity to Lena, but she certainly seems to have a record of being focused squarely on rich white lady issues.

  42. HK9 says:

This fluffy bitch is cancelled. Stand beside your friend while he drags you to hell with the rest of the despicable things he’s done.

  43. Tammy says:

Malia Obama was also an intern for Lena Dunhem 2 years ago on the set of Girls. Talk about another inappropriate ‘internship’ .I think Mr. and Mrs. O should have a sit down with her and tell her not to go into the film industry. Seriously. it seems like everyone is either a predetor, abuser, rapist, pedophile or hypocrite.
Malia go be a lawyer or a doctor or a public servant.

    • aga says:

Or product of casting couch like 60 % of actresses.

    • Patty says:

I don’t think the Obama’s need your parenting advice. Also Malia is in her first year of college, she did a summer internship; none of us know what career path or industry she may or may not choose. You know what other industry has a massive sexism problem? Tech! But I doubt you’d say the Obama’s should discourage their daughter from working in tech.

    • lucy2 says:

It does seem especially prevalent in the entertainment industry, but sexism, harassment, and assault exist in every industry. EVERY.
The benefit for these young people like Malia is that they’re seeing this wave of change happening right now, and maybe their futures will be different because of it.

      • Caren says:

But why would you send your daughter to intern for someone like Weinstein or Dunhem? When this was all very known within in the film industry?

    • jwoolman says:

Malia had Secret Service protection. Somehow I doubt anybody would be stupid enough to mess with the POTUS’s daughter. She could go anywhere as though she was encased in armor.

Also remember that until not long ago, all this was on the level of anonymous rumors. The Obamas are very familiar with baseless rumors.

  44. Mina says:

Oh geez. When I first read the headline I was prepared to give Lena the benefit of the doubt this time because I assumed she’d been asked about it and hadn’t want to turn her back on her friend right away, which I can understand. But I can’t believe she proactively sent such a statement. It’s like she does it on purpose.

  45. Olivia says:

Lets move on already men are still running the show while we divide

    • Electric Tuba says:

Lena is a brick in the wall that divides women. Lena threw one of us into the fire when she did not value her word partially because of her skin color, partially because Lena is emersed in the self segregated culture of her own anal cavity. Lena keeps us women from moving on and taking power back from men by making present issues about herself. She is a toxic distraction that detracts from actual progress real feminists are working so hard for, bringing ridicule and idiocy to our cause with her own ego and divisive conduct. You remove this worm hole riddled brick from the wall that divides us women and we are one step closer to moving on and taking what is rightfully ours.

    • blogdis says:

Yes it’s good that you get to decide what is important and when we should move on

    • QueenB says:

Lena Dunham actually unites people. In their hatred towards her.

Seriously how is this divisive? There is no in-fighting at all in feminist circles about this. Everyone is clearly canceling her.

  46. Jayna says:

Wait until you get to Morrissey’s remarks on Spacey. He’s not the only older, rich, gay guy feeling sorry for Spacey losing his career and rolling his eyes at certain victims; accounts. Okay. He is crazy, albeit talented, if not erratic, ensconsed in his mansion out of touch.

His new brand new album, Low in High School, has disturbing stances on issues such as immigration, mainstream media, et cetera. But God Help Me, he sounds amazing on it and musically the album is so interesting, except for some of his misguided lyrics from living the rich man’s life in his mansion. Hate me, but my liberal self, who is a long-suffering Morrissey fan, is blown away by Morrissey coming back passionate with such grandeur and melodies, even if dead wrong lyrically in certain songs tackling issues.

To be a Morrissey fan is to be a tortured fan anyway. He will probably cancel half of his concerts

  47. Cupcake says:

Not surprising at all that someone insufferable becomes even more insufferable.

  48. LaBlah says:

For the love of all things holy, please Lena just SHUT THE HELL UP forever.

  49. MisJes says:

Who cares what this POS thinks. She admitted to sexually assaulting her own sister in her book. She should have been done years ago – f*ck her!

    • mtam says:

@MISJES Omg totally. I still can’t believe how many people decided to turn a blind eye to that and dismiss it. It’s sick.

    • jwoolman says:

Lena was about six at the time herself…

The Kardashian sisters admitted to playing with their baby brother’s genitals when they were children. Shows lack of supervision, but it happens.

  50. mtam says:

Not surprised at all, this woman has been problematic since the beginning and also an abuser herself (re: read again the stuff she admitted doing to her little sister, remember the age differences… and if that’s still not enough to make you think of her as a child abuser, imagine if she had been a male instead, now go read it again…. just because both were young girls does not mean it wasn’t abuse, and i’m unfortunately speaking from experience….). Lena “i wish i had had an abortion” Dunham has always been one of those people who love playing victim, and if you criticize her that justifies her delusions, that she just has the best intentions and everyone in the public who judges her either misunderstood or is out to get her. What a piece of flaming trash she is.

Also there’s been a blind going around about Miller having shit on Lena and that’s why she’s been so adamantly defending him. Any updates on that?

  51. Betsy says:

If I had a friend accused of rape about whom I just couldn’t believe such a thing until I saw proof, you know what I would do? Just shut up. Just stay silent. Acknowledge to one’s self that while you didn’t think that person capable of such monstrous behavior, maybe you don’t know that person inside and out. And just shut up.

    • mtam says:

@Besty … agree completely. why is that so hard? Lena & Jenny should have stayed quiet, let the investigators do their job and if they really wanted to advocate for their friend, wait to give that character statement in private if requested. How bout that? But why go out of your way to defend someone you barely knew when they allegedly committed the crime (about 5 yrs ago) and also try to intimidate and silence the victim as well? I don’t know Jenny, but Lena is a total hypocrite, who also has a history of perpetrating abuse. I don’t know what kind of legal action Aurora can take against them for using their public platform to mess with the case and call her a liar, that is some seriously damaging shit they did.

  52. cd3 says:

Aw man. Wow. Lena is such a flaming bag of white privilege garbage. It makes me so sad that she’s a celebrity and is given a voice and platform. I hope that young women and girls are savvy enough to choose someone like Zendaya over Lena as role models. But then again, in this age of Kardashians and Lenas, I have little hope for the world.

    She’s awful. AWFUL.

  53. jwoolman says:

I think it’s unrealistic to assume the worst about someone who simply knows the accused well and is having trouble dealing with the accusation. A complication in this case is the victim’s intoxicated state. Hopefully she did a rape kit at the time.

I can see why Lena’s initial response would be to believe her long-time friend rather than a stranger. Her mistake was saying too much. She should have either shut up about it or say she was waiting for an investigation before saying anything further. But she probably felt it was important to support her friend more directly, despite the risk of it blowing up in her face.
