Terry Crews: ‘I respect and understand why victims remain silent’

Terry Crews is not backing away from his accusations against WME agent Adam Venit. Unfortunately, at times, it seems like Terry is on his own. Since Terry told his #MeToo story on Twitter, he has filed a police report and Venit was placed on leave at WME. However, that’s about as far as the justice went. After Terry’s touching interview on GMA with Michael Strahan, RadarOnline contacted Terry to let him know they were planning on publishing a hit piece on him:

Terry went to Ari Emanuel, co-CEO of at WME, who once wrote a letter as to why Mel Gibson had to be banned from Hollywood. Terry replaced Mel’s name with Venit’s and “anti-semitic” for “sexual assault/” Emanuel said Venit’s case “was different”:

As we know, Venit was reinstated at WME:

Venit’s high profile clients include Emma Stone, Adam Sandler, Dustin Hoffman, Brett Ratner, Diane Keaton and Eddie Murphy. A few days ago, Lauren Warren at BET published an article asking where Terry’s support was. It was a thoughtful and informative article. Although Terry greatly appreciated the support, he wants to let everyone know that he does not hold those who haven’t spoken out accountable and refuses to shame them:

Terry said himself he did not report the incident because Venit is “connected to probably everyone I know in the business,” but decided to speak out to support the others who had. Lauren’s article makes several good points and comes from a very genuine emotional response as a bystander, which Terry acknowledged. But I also understand Terry’s generosity to those who haven’t said anything. I love his line about needing leaders and not martyrs. As usual, he’s articulated his journey beautifully.

He also has a lot to lose with his persistence on this matter, just like all the women who are speaking out. Obviously, he has an amazing and supportive partner in his wife, Rebecca King-Crews. What Terry is doing by exposing how Hollywood protects its own is both difficult and critical and I’m glad he’s not letting up. Fortunately, this provided an opportunity to show the upside of Twitter. When Lauren pointed out nobody was speaking up for Terry, people went to Twitter to do just that:

I stand with Terry. Not only because he’s a victim of assault but because he is getting more backlash than others. Being a male victim of color has afforded him no protection. And that makes me angry.
    Fight on Terry

    • MI6 says:

This guy is the epitome of class and grace under pressure. I hope others follow his example. #Himtoo

    • commonsense says:

I feel the same way, Nicole, this makes me angry too.

    • Hands Up says:

Exactly. If someone like one of the superhero Chris actors had come forward with something like this, it would have been huge, they’d have received commendations from all over, there would be a serious look at this issue. If a strong, good looking, box office smashing white guy said it, people would be jumping up. Terry Crews is not getting enough support. And the people who are supporting him are amazing.

    • Nicole says:

Just look at the sheer lack of comments on this article vs the others.
      Speaks volumes

      • Rose says:

I’m surprised and sadden that more people on here haven’t commented on his post. Is the lack of outrage because he is a man or is it because he’s not as famous.

      • BlueSky says:

it just goes to again to the argument I always have about the disparities when someone of color comes forward with sexual assault/harassment. i’m sure there are more black actors/actresses who are victims but have more to lose if they come forward. I was talking about this this past weekend with my hairdresser. there was a little white girl who went missing and they had 700 volunteers out look ing for her. How often do you hear that when a black child goes missing?
It’s sad, I hope this does not affect his career going forward. He does deserve more support.

    • Close to a nervous breakdown, says:

absolutely agree, 100%. It is very, very unfair.

  2. Louise177 says:

I feel bad for Terry since he’s gotten so little support. I think if he wasn’t a black male people would believe and support him. The fact that none of Venit’s clients care about what happened is probably why he still has a job.

  3. Alexandria says:

Thoughtful, respectful and very brave. He is a hero in my books. But that’s not enough and I will use my spending power to support his works.

  4. Tan says:

    The way I see it
Male star , person of color, this could have been landmark of movement for someone. Even if they had supported him for their own advancement
    Instead the predator gets reinstalled!

High time agents are ripped to shred with respect to weinstein and other predators bcoz that’s the only way the problem will have any hope of any solution

  5. Snowflake says:

An amazing man. He has done amazing things for victims by telling his story.

  6. T.Fanty says:

I love him. I will do what I can by paying money to watch every work he produces.

Also, we live in an Idiocracy now, so if President Camacho wants to run, he’ll have my vote.

    • AMA1977 says:

I have said on numerous occasions that I would welcome President Camacho in lieu of our current dumpster fire, because eventually he listened to people who were trying to advise him and learned and made better choices.

Terry Crews is a class act the whole way around, and the way that he has handled this terrible incident, from the assault itself to the public statements he has made as a result of his incredibly brave decision to speak out, have showcased that beautifully.

I believe you, Terry. I applaud your bravery. I am so sorry that the assailant has not been properly punished for violating you, and I support your continued strength in pursuing justice and healing for yourself and other victims. You are a wonderful, wonderful man.

    • Maria _ says:

      +10000

  7. Hands Up says:

ANYONE COMING AT TERRY CREWS NEEDS TO STEP BACK.

    Honestly f*ck them.

You know what these people hate most about him? He’s a big black man… In a loving relationship, with a gorgeous family, who people respect. He smashes a ton of nasty stereotypes about African American men. There’s a reason these scumbags writing the hit piece jumped right to “He hires sex workers – WHITE ONES”. Because it wasn’t enough to slander him, they needed to add “He’s after our women” too. I hope they rot.

Terry has only proven himself more and more amazing throughout this.

    • Snowflake says:

      This^^

      • Sylvia says:

Yes, all of this! I love Terry Crews and have so much admiration and respect for him.

Also, f*ck RadarOnline. They’ll put a hit piece out on someone for speaking out against harassment and assault by saying they use the services of hookers (the horror!), but want to protect the names of pedophile pieces of crap. Says a lot about them.

    • Peaches says:

      You said 100x better than I could have. This^^^^^ 1000 times this^^^^

  8. DiligentDiva says:

Nothing but respect for him. Keep exposing them Terry. That radar piece really shows how dirty hollywood is. They will throw out anything (true or false) in order to keep themselves from being exposed. What would it even matter if Terry had hired them? Does that mean he couldn’t be a victim of sexual assault? It was solely put out there to make him afraid.

  9. PIa says:

What about Venmit’s clients…silence all around from them.

    • Tiffany says:

Especially Sandler, who is a ‘friend’ and Terry has worked with a ton.

All Sandler has to do is threatened to work and that douchebag will be out of the agency.

    • Sky says:

Yes i have not heard any support from any member of Venmit’s clients (list below). The sad thing is Terry says he understands why theu are not supporting him.

      Brett Ratner
      Dustin Hoffman
      Kevin James
      Emma Stone
      Liam Hemsworth
      Adam Sandler

    • tealily says:

If I was one of his clients I would be absolutely outraged that he and the company had put me in this position. I would be speaking out about it and looking for new representation. I think it’s very generous of Crews to give them the benefit of the doubt. I personally think these people are pathetic.

  10. BJ says:

Unfortunately Terry has to deal with more backlash because he is black and because he is a male victim of sexual assault.I have seen hundreds of comments on urban blogs questioning his masculinity, calling him slurs because “he let a man grab his junk”.I have seen ignorant people like Wendy Williams go on TV and criticize him for having the courage to come forward.I am pretty sure Terry knew he would face backlash and possibly be blackballed but he still spoke out to support other survivors.
BTW Anthony Rapp who exposed Kevin Spacey also got some hate from people saying he should have kept his mouth shut. They blame him for ruining Kevin’s career and jeopardizing their favorite show “House of Cards”. Because a TV show is more important.#sarcasm

    • Sky says:

Wendy Williams is trash and only care if something is said about her or affects her. Instead of coming for Terry she needs to be worried about her cheating husband and his pregnant girlfriend who he still seeing.

Then again what should we expect somebody who works for Life & Style magazine.

    • Anners says:

It’s strange because I thought all those things would actually make him *more* believable – he’s so big and strong and masculine, and has so much to lose by sharing his experience (see all the trolls questioning his worth and masculinity). It breaks my heart that he’s doing this alone without any support. He just seems like such a genuinely nice person. I stand by Terry

  11. Wurstfingers says:

Even if he were hiring sex workers, it would not mean he wasn’t telling the truth about the assault . I believe him.

  12. blogdis says:

    I support you Terry

  13. serena says:

This is so unfair and enraging 🙁

  14. monette says:

    This makes me soooooo angry.
Tery is very brave and a wonderful man. I support, believe and love you, Terry.
I hope you get the justice you deserve.

  15. eto says:

This one has me teary-eyed , Terry is one of my favorites.

  16. Coolio says:

I love you Terry. I am with you. Keep fighting, we cannot give up. This is our time.

  17. Veronica says:

Their modus operandi is always the same, which makes it all the more f*cking outrageous that people haven’t figured it out by now. Discredit the victim, destroy the premise of their case. Even if Terry Crews had hired prostitutes, they are all consenting adults engaging in transactional exchange. Not at all the same thing as sexual assault. But the threat is there and the threat is to his reputation, which is everything in the business, so they think they can undermine him. Outrageous. You see the same sh*t going on in the Brock Turner appeal with people trying to the say the victim wasn’t acceptably believable because of her own (CONSENSUAL) sexual history and the claims about the placement of the crime. You can literally get caught IN THE ACT in this shithole of a country, and some rape apologist wants to crawl out of the sewer to assure you that you brought it on yourself.

  18. Kim says:

Don’t stop fighting Terry. You are love, you are light. We believe in you.

  19. One more time says:

I have always loved Terry & will continue to support him in anything he does. He is a treasure and it’s sad & disgusting how he is not getting the support he needs. People who are complicate are just as bad as the perpetrators in my opinion.

  20. I believe Terry Crews and I stand with him. Enough is enough.

  21. Sky says:

It’s very probably is that the smear campaign against Terry is coming from Venmit. He try to distract sympathy women have for Terry by saying he’s cheating on his wife.

  22. Peaches says:

I believe Terry. I get he doesn’t wanna shame people, but I just don’t understand how they could stand to be represented by someone who is capable of sexual assault. In PUBLIC. In plain view of his wife and other people.. can you imagine what he must be capable of behind closed doors???

  23. StillTotalled says:

I am sick at heart thinking of what this could do to his career. And just filled with admiration at his bravery.
Also with the vote your wallet crowd. If he makes an infomercial, I’m buying that product.
Does he have a new movie out? Need to see it and buy the Blu-ray.
