Beyonce presented Colin Kaepernick with the Muhammad Ali Legacy Award

No NFL team will hire Colin Kaepernick. That still pisses me off. Fortunately, people are giving Kaepernick recognitions and awards all over the place. He was one of the runners-up for Time Magazine’s Person of the Year. He was one of GQ’s Men of the Year. The ACLU gave him an award for Courageous Advocate. And last night, Kaepernick took home the Muhammad Ali Legacy Award at the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year Awards. What made it next-level was the fact that Beyonce made a surprise appearance at the SI Awards just to present Kaepernick with the award. Beyonce said:

“It feels so good to be here on such a special night of appreciation. Thank you, Colin Kaepernick. Thank you for your selfless heart and your conviction. Thank you for your personal sacrifice. Colin took action with no fear of consequence or repercussion — only hope to change the world for the better, to change perception, to change the way we treated each other, especially people of color. We are still waiting for the world to catch up. It’s been said that racism is so American, that when we protest racism, some assume we are protesting America. So, let’s be very clear: Colin has always been very respectful of the individuals who selflessly serve and protect our country and our communities and our families. His message is solely focused on social injustice for historically disenfranchised people. Let’s not get that mistaken.”

Hey, remember when Bey released “Formation” and all of the white conservatives were literally pulling out their hair and screaming about how BEYONCE IS A BLACK PANTHER and BEYONCE IS DANGEROUS? That was after she killed it at the Super Bowl in what was just a GUEST appearance during the Half-Time show. My point? The NFL has problems, but Black Panthers aren’t it.

As for Kaepernick, he told the audience that “With or without the NFL’s platform, I will continue to work for the people.” He spoke about the legacy of Ali, saying: “The footprints he leaves are large and his life is and has been a multi-textured tapestry that is rich in love, wisdom, life lessons, and human kindness. I can only hope that I’m taking steps toward walking on the footsteps that he has left behind for the world to follow.”

Yea! Finally, some recognition for his courage.

    • Esmom says:

Yes. Now if only a team would hire him. He deserves it.

    • Marley31 says:

It would be nice if every team and every player picked 1 day they suppose to play ball and sit out to protest for Colin Kapernick and response to him not being hired and see what happens in sure if everyone took a stand he’d get a job. The NFL can’t fire every player because today its Colin tomm it’ll be others and if everyone picked a day not to watch football or not watch football at all until a team hires him. It takes a nation to stand up!

Ugh. Him being blacklisted still makes me so mad!!!! The NFL is full of rapists, drug dealers, wife beaters, drunks who drink and drive, yet the man who has a peaceful protest is thrown out?!?!?!

    • Annabelle Bronstein says:

This, exactly this. I love the troops and come from a military family… silently kneeling during the National Anthem is exactly what our troops fight for: the right to free speech, a uniquely American individual right.

    • Nicole says:

Not only that but in general TERRIBLE QBs. Like Kaep is a good player. The league seriously has an issue this year with bad QBs.

    • Otaku fairy says:

      Agreed.

  3. Wisca says:

I admire him, but I wish he had voted. Is Beyonce trapped in a sexiness bubble? Can she escape it occasionally to present a humanitarian award? I want to understand.

  4. SK says:

I’m not American so I did not realise he had been blacklisted. That is so messed up!

  5. HeyThere! says:

I forgot to add the NFL is also full of straight up murderers!!!! Ugh.

  6. Kitten says:

My BF said his speech was awesome. Can’t wait to hear it!

  7. African Sun says:

He’s gorgeous and brave, she’s gorgeous.

    Love them!

I hope him and Nessa get married. I’ll be happy the day I hear they are engaged.

  8. JA says:

Perhaps he will register to vote in 2018 and actually participate in elections. The latest election day results when democrats won over several republican candidates proved EVERY vote matters… you want your voice heard?! Start at the polling places then go forward and fight the fight… that is all.

  9. Fleurucci says:

Her legs OMG wow and her hair is lovely! Much prettier than her recent elevator pics hair
Her speech reminds me of Obama

  10. Hehe says:

The NFL should be harder on the wife beaters than they are Colin. He is a good qb and should be given the opportunity to play.

  11. debsagrrl says:

    Congratulations ! Colin…
