Lupita Nyong’o in Halpern at ‘The Last Jedi’ LA premiere: stunning or showgirl-fug?

Film Premiere Star The Last Jedi Wars

This is going to be a big photo post, just FYI. The LA premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi was held Saturday night. Everybody came out. It seemed like a nice event. So let’s get started. Lupita Nyong’o was there, wearing a bright, shiny Halpern dress which is giving me showgirl vibes, probably because of all the drama with the leg slit. It’s a lovely color on Lupita, and she wears a lot of green in general. But I still think she could have done better?

Daisy Ridley in Monse. I love the stars and she looks great (albeit slightly boring).

Tessa Thompson wore Solace London and OMG look at the shoes.

OH HEY Domhnall Gleeson. I would. He looks great in this Burberry suit.

Laura in Vivienne Westwood. I like the structure of this dress and Laura can definitely pull it off with her height and slim figure. I just don’t like the fabric that much.

Gwendoline Christie is amazing.

Oh hey John Boyega!!

Minus the slit would’ve been a knock out for Lupita. Everyone looks great in this post

    • whatWHAT? says:

I’d say minus the slit and that poofy thing on her hip. but I like the color and the “shiny” of it.

    • shlockOftheNEw says:

Lupita’s dress missed “showgirl” by one or two eclectic origami folds, but it was a near miss.

  2. MI6 says:

Lupita and Gwendolyn Christie are goddesses.
    That is all.

  3. sus says:

The color is amazing. The hip “wave”… not a fan. I love the top part of Daisy’s dress, And I love how dramatic Gwendoline’s dress is, I think a lot of people would “dress down” someone of that height and it’s great that she chooses really eye-catching stuff.

  4. Lucy says:

All of them are and look lovely.

  5. Mia4s says:

I’m not fond of the cut of Lupita’s dress but that colour is great on her. Daisy needed a neckless or something. No Mark Hamill pic and no Oscar Isaac at all (didn’t show up) is automatic -100 points for this thread.

  6. Maum says:

I think Lupita’s hair ages her. It’s was too fussy with the dress- might have worked with something minimalist.

    Gwendoline is amazing.

    I find Domhnall strangely attractive.

    • African Sun says:

I think Lupes needs a better natural hair stylist because there are some wonderful hair styles on even Pinterest that she can draw from for a premiere.

Sometimes a classic Afro does the job as well and can look super elegant.

    • Annetommy says:

Not strange, lots of people find him attractive. Tessa Thompson’s outfit is ghastly. So are the shoes.

      • Ankhel says:

Thank Jeebus! I thought I was barking. Tessa looks ridiculous, like a mad old aunt, and people here go, oh, lovely outfits!

  7. Lucy2 says:

Everyone looks great. I don’t love Lupitas dress that she is so lovely that I must doesn’t matter.
Laura Dern looks amazing, and I love the boldness of Gwen’s.

  8. SM says:

I actually think Lupita’s look is the best out of all in this post. I think it would look even better if the lenght was either shorter like a mini skirt or full lenght of a gown.

  9. minx says:

For a change I like all of these looks. Laura Dern looks amazing, her figure, her hair.

  10. Nanny to the Rescue says:

Mmmm John. Lupita is beautiful – she’s got legs for that slit and I love her hair. Gwendoline is working her looks as always.

Tessa’s shoes, tho. I like the bold idea but man, the execution looks odd.

  11. A says:

Lupita could have done better while Daisy is literally wearing a garbage bag with glow in the dark stars glued on? Nope. Tessa looks awesome.

    • Tanesha86 says:

That’s exactly what I was thinking, shredded garbage bag 😂. I’m a huge Lupita Stan so I think she looks great in anything. This dress makes her look like a Hershey’s kiss and I am here for it 🤩

  12. serena says:

Love Lupita’s dress! As for the ‘showgirly’ I’d put Daisy Riley in that category.. giant starts on sparkly dress a WITH FRINGES? Hell no.

    • Eve V says:

      @Serena
That’s exactly what I was thinking! Read Kaiser’s comment about Lupita looking like a showgirl, scrolled down and thought she looked pretty dang good, actually. Scrolled down some more to Daisy’s picture and was like there’s the showgirl look! Lol I do not like her dress, at all and as beautiful as she is, even she cannot pull that look off.

  13. Veronica says:

Lupita’s does have some show girl vibes, but honestly, she’s got one of those faces that’s so luminous, it tends to upsell everything she’s wearing.

Where else could Tessa Thompson get away with those shoes than at a STAR WARS premiere?

  14. Meow says:

Lupita reminds me of the green Quality Street – but she still looks gorgeous!

  15. Mrs.Krabapple says:

Omg, I can’t stop staring at John’s crotch. I hope I’m not committing harassment.

  16. TheOtherSam says:

Jewel tones look amazing on Lupita. She is gorgeous here. And those shoes on Tessa! on anyone else they’d probably be ridiculous but she pulls them off here. She’s really a future fashion star in the making.

  17. African Sun says:

YASSS BRIENNE looking like a silver dress sword, love the dress!

Lupes’ dress is fug but her skin looks good.

  18. Pandy says:

OMG her dress is AMAZING … I love it! They all look great but I’m LOVING the OTT-ness of it. And the color on her is just wonderful.

  19. khaveman says:

For me, they are all a fashion win. Laura needed maybe a touch more makeup or some sort of small earring.

  20. India Rose says:

Proposal: Could we stop with the word fug? It’s very close to pug — a dog, a bitch — and feels especially gross when used about women of color.

Women who speak out about sexual assault, harassment and abuse are finally being heard. We’re demanding change. We’ve got a pussy-grabbing force kisser in the WH, but we’re being heard and some big bad dudes are going down because of our bravery.

I realize fashion is supposed to be fun. We use shorthand for click-bait. Fine. But what if we question the undertones of some of these words and toss the ones that disrespect and push women down further. We’ve clearly got multiple industries full of men willing to do that to us already.

  21. Read non-mainstream blogs says:

Lupita looks as if she is trying to dress for the job she wants: international A-list.
In this context it looks somewhat ridiculous because judging by the other actors’ and actresses’ choice of evening wear she looks distinctively overdressed and trying-too-hard.

  22. Anare says:

Lupitas gown looks like it was carved from a piece of malachite. I actually kind of love it.
