I remember hearing about The Woman In the Window, but I can’t remember if I heard about the book (by A.J. Finn) or the film adaptation. The film comes out next year, and many people believe that THIS will finally be the role that earns Amy Adams a well-deserved Oscar. Sidenote: I’ll scream if Scarlett “Japanese Tree” Johansson wins an Oscar before Amy Adams. But I bet that’s what will happen. The Woman in the Window feels like a modernized version of Rear Window, instead of a physically invalid Jimmy Stewart, we have an agoraphobic woman played by Amy. She makes one friend – played by Julianne Moore – and immediately sh-t goes straight to hell. The trailer was released on Thursday and it looks SO GOOD. It also stars Gary Oldman (blah), Anthony Mackie, Brian Tyree Henry and Wyatt Russell (son of Goldie & Kurt). Oh, and an as-yet-uncredited cameo by Jennifer Jason Leigh. I’m here for it. I hope that one year from now, we’re talking about the inevitability of Amy Adams winning everything. I won’t even be contrarian about it!
Meanwhile, another big trailer dropped on Thursday too. Here’s the trailer for Tenet, directed by Christopher Nolan. I went into this without knowing anything, and it’s really, really cool if you do it that way.
Yes, that’s John David Washington, son of Denzel and Pauletta Washington. He looks so much like his mother! That’s amazing to me. And while you can see some of Denzel in him (especially in certain angles and with some of his line readings), I love that “Denzel’s actor son” really doesn’t read that way on-screen. Plus, he’s genuinely a really talented actor – he was great in BlacKkKlansman. Well deserving of the lead role in a Christopher Nolan film!! And look who joined him – Bobby Sparkles, Michael Caine, Kenneth Brannagh, Elizabeth Debicki, Aaron Taylor Johnson and Himesh Patel. Anyway, I have no clue what any of this is about, but it looks cool AF and I’m down for a JDW-Bobby Sparkles partnership.

It really blows me away that JDW is ALL Pauletta! John David doesn’t even sound like Denzel, much less look like him.
This is so funny. I love when people obviously look like one of their parents, particularly the opposite sex parent from them. My brother and I look exactly like our mother; so much so that people have commented on it for decades. However, I only just realized, a few years ago, how much like her father she looks. Genetics are such a trip.
My youngest brother looks exactly like my dad. So much so that he initially thought, “what was I wearing?” after looking at an old photo of my dad and sister taken during the 80’s.
Genetics are weird. I look exactly like my mother and maternal grandmother. SO much so, that my grandmother had a pic of herself around age 5 and I asked her when did “I” take that picture, as I had NO memory of it.
My sister and brother take after my dad, and have my dad’s facial shape/coloring. My sister and I, apparently, sound so much alike that my when I answered the phone at my sister’s, after saying hellos and a few initial words, I had to stop my bro in law from talking, telling him that I wasn’t my sister 😊
When Denzel got his DeMille and brought the family on stage, it was Pauletta and her look alikes. All of them looked like her and she is a stunning woman. The years are gonna be kind to those kids genetically.

The Amy Adams movie sounds a bit like Columbus Circle that started Selma Blair. SO GOOD.

She is a fabulous and consistently under-recognized actress.
I don’t care about either movie and the author of the book that Amy’s movie is based on sounds so awful (I think there was a huge piece in the New Yorker about him being a horrible con artist) that I’m sorta rooting against the movie, even though AA definitely deserves an Oscar!

As someone in the publishing field I will not support this author or any fruit that comes from this tree. Sorry Amy Adams. This whole book is a hot mess and the movie encourages more of the same.
This New Yorker article is mind-blowing. He (Dan Mallory aka AJ Finn) sounds like a complete sociopath. To choose just one lie, he faked cancer for sympathy and attention over the course of many many years, and when caught said ‘oh, it was my bipolar disorder made me do it’!
Does this guy have any more books in the pipeline, I can’t find anything? I would think he would have something new out to capitalize on interest from this movie.

You beat me to it, Jess. I really can’t believe that this guy – after all he’s done and said still gets a book, a movie deal, a shitload of money. It makes me furious. So no thanks. Plus I really don’t understand the fascination with Amy Adams. She is an OK-actress with a rather limited range.

I started the book before all that came out and didn’t care for it, but I love Amy Adams so I’ll probably watch it at some point.
I like most Nolan movies too so I’ll watch that as well.
Amy Adams movie looks like a mix of Gone girl and The Girl on the Train, nothing special but I will watch it for Amy Adams.
I was afraid about Tenet plot, because I saw prologue in IMAX and he has Russians in that, and I am tired of bad Russians in Hollywood movies, but goddamn it looks amazing and it will be something about time (like every other Nolan movie, but whatever he’s genius and auteur, and I love Dunkirk), yep I will watch it anyway. Christopher Nolan’s movies aren’t movies anymore, it’s events you can’t miss.

Agreed. I liked his Batman movies a great deal but I thought Inception was amazing, and I was really surprised at how much I liked Dunkirk – its one of the few recent movies that my husband and I have watched several times.
The Woman in the Window is a TERRIBLE book. I was so mad I wasted my time. Don’t waste yours. The author ripped off Girl on the Train (woman with a drinking/pill problem sees bad things and questions her sanity).

Yes! I read it and it really sucked. There are billions of books out there derivative of Gone Girl, or the Girl on the Train (maybe the Girl on the Train itself was derivative of Gone Girl?) It is an entire genre of publishing.
But maybe the movie will be better. It’s the type of book that reads as a screenplay treatment not a novel anyway.
Whoa, they both look really good! JDW is one of the rare cases of nepotism that I’m completely ok with and I also hope Amy gets her long overdue Oscar.
I’m here for Tenet and always for Christopher Nolan. I think part of the clue to the plot is in the title which is a palindrome, so what goes forward also goes backwards. And the weird figures in black are coolly creepy. Whatever this story is about should be a very twisty tale dealing with time and l can’t wait!
The Woman in the Window looks fantastic. I saw the link posted above about the author being a garbage person, uggggghhhhhhh. I haven’t clicked on it because I don’t want to know! At leat not yet. If it blows up, I’ll pay attention. But I just don’t want this ruined for me yet, you know?! I know that’s ignorant and unhelpful, but I’m gonna stay in this space at least a little while longer.
The Woman in the Window. Hands down. It looks fantastic has an amazing cast. And I love Amy Adams and Julianne Moore. And yes I will spit nails if ScarJo wins an Oscar before Amy does. But she probably will and that sends me into a rage spiral.

I confess I would see neither of these movies. LOL I love Amy Adams but I hate scary movies. And the other one just looks like a scary movie. I think life is scary enough right now.
Roman Polanski would have been a terrific director for the Woman in the Window. For all his flaws which I am not defending, he is brilliant at that kind of film.
