As I said earlier today, I was surprised at how awesome it was to see nearly everyone in black on a red carpet. It’s like the single color not only signified how important this cause is, but it’s also made the features of the dresses stand out. There were virtually no garish colors, there were no prints, the weird embellishments were kept to a minimum, and it was so interesting to see how the different designers worked with that single color. There were a few women who went with primarily black dresses with small pops of color or metallic elements (there were definitely more metallics that I noticed) and Mandy Moore was one of them. She was in a black Rosie Assoulin gown with a wide red belt-like swath across the waist. That red was like an act of defiance in a sea of black. The original gown was all black with cutouts at the side but someone thought to alter it by added a red piece of fabric, which was thoughtful. There’s a cape on this which leads from the neckline too. I wish I could find a better back view of this dress.
Here’s Mandy’s costar, Chrissy Metz, in Sachin & Babi. I loved seeing her interviewed by Ryan Seacrest, even though he’s a hack. It seems like everyone who works on This is Us is deeply connected to their character and storyline. It must be a nice place to work, although it’s got to be devastating at times too. (I don’t watch it yet, but I’ve heard enough things about what a tearjerker it can be.) I like the sequin and velvet-like fabric in this gown (it looks lighter than velvet, like a blend) along with the mesh hem at the bottom. It’s like designers had to be more creative.
Sharon Stone was in Vitor Zerbinato and she brought one of her sons, Roan Joseph Bronstein, 17. The angular cutouts on this gown are killer. I want it, or at least a shirt that approximates this look without any cutouts and with more coverage. I don’t think it would quite look the same on me and neither would that awesome haircut. Goals.
Ooh and check out Roan’s long velvet jacket!
Alexis Bledel was another celebrity who added color to her look. She was in an Oscar de la Renta pantsuit with a white bodice with black leaves winding around it, a black sash and black pants. Imagine this look in all black. It would be better, right? The leaves would be more subtle and it wouldn’t look as garish.

Alexis’s eyes are stunning. She could wear anything and I’d only want to look at her eyes
Sharon looks classy, with an edge.
I thought Mandy Moore’s dress was the most gorgeous.
I absolutely loved the black dress theme/statement. I thought just about everyone looked spectacular.
I love it but it looks too big. It’s not fitted properly.
Mandy Moore’s was one of my favorite looks of the night, along with Zoe Kravitz, Claire Foy, and Natalie Portman. The drape of the dress, with the pops of red in the sash and jewelry, was fabulous. I’d have to put the overall look at #1.
Diane Kruger and Viola Davis would round out my top 5, with Kruger vying with Moore for my #1.
I agree, just like in a comment to the opening post of GG, I was pleasantly surprised by the black. Both on women and men. It not only shows the power of solidarity but it made the whole carpet/show much classier without those different flower patterns and baldy coordinated colours. Awesome all thr way. It’s the first time I got inspired by this event.
Yes I’ve been waiting for Mandy Moore’s dress! I loved the neckline most. She is very pretty, tall and for once wore something that elevated her looks. Nice makeup too!
Mandy’s dress was gorgeous and her hair and makeup looked great.
The Alexis Beidel outfit is one of the better designs from Oscar De La Renta the new designers are atrocious.
YEs, I really like it too! I do like the gowns here. Sharon Stone looks amazing, still! I saw another woman with a beautiful sky blue sash on a black dress being interviewed on E, but can’t remember who she was. I really like the sash pop of color.
Omg Sharon brought her son?! That bothers me soooooooooooooooooooooooo much. Lmao. On another note, I haven’t watched This Is US either. Maybe someday, doubtful though because I won’t consciously sign up for tear jerkers lol.
Why are you so bothered about Stone’s son at the GGs?
It’s a joke (note the lmao) in reference to the pearl clutching on the Angelina Jolie and son thread. Speculation and assumptions can be more entertaining than the entertainment itself. I mean showing up somewhere important with a loved one? The unimaginable horrors!
Lol. Please note that none of those people have popped onto this thread complaining about Sharon bringing her son.
Mandy Moore’s hair and makeup were so on point. She was a knockout. I think I really like the gown, but need a better photo.
I love Mandy’s look! Simple and bold but on point for the night.
I don’t love Sharon’s dress but she looks great. He son looks younger than 17, wouldn’t have guessed that was his age.
I do like Alexis’ look.
I thought so too and will double-check.
Sharon continues to kill it. I always enjoy her style.
Mandy looks amazing. Loved the pop of color. The TIU cast seems very close which is nice. Sharon Stone is WOW. And her son is so cute and loved the jacket.
I actually like Alexis look but yea all black would’ve been great. Chrissy looks great too. Not my fave look on her but I like that she always tries looks even if they don’t always work
I like the leaf trim on Alexis’ jumpsuit & it wouldn’t show up in all black. I’m bored with lace, cut-outs & sheer everywhere but that’d be the only way to see the detail.
I absolutely love MM’s look, ok, the dress looks too big at the bottom, I LOVE her make-up, hair, accessories. But I didn’t recognize her.
I think all the dresses were so bland, but I also find this “Wear all black” thing so fake, I’m fine with her pop of color, made her dress appealing looking, then the rest of the black and silver/white stuff that went on last night.
Is it just me or there was a pretty general sense of joy last night? All the women happily posed with their all-black attires, all of them seemed thrilled to see each other…this is not a bad thing at all, btw. It’s just that the atmosphere felt significantly different.
Yes to Sharon Stone !!! She’s a goddess
Mandy looks amazing which I never say!
Sharon Stone looked amazing! Mandy Moore is gorgeous, but I don’t love the dress nor the the styling. I think Emilia Clark looked amazing.
