Diane Kruger in Prada at the Golden Globes: stunning or boring?

75th Golden Globe Awards

I’m a little bit surprised that Diane Kruger didn’t wear Chanel to the Golden Globes, just because she usually wears Chanel to all of the major events. Diane went with this Prada gown which… I don’t like? I don’t completely hate it, but I just don’t care for it either. It doesn’t suit her? Diane’s German film, In the Fade, won Best Foreign Film and many people think that Diane could be a dark-horse contender for a Best Actress Oscar nomination. Norman Reedus was her date to the Globes, although they barely posed with each other on the carpet. She did give him a big kiss when her film won though. And they partied with each other after the show.

I felt like an a–hole last night when people were going crazy over Gal Gadot’s Tom Ford look. Every year, Tom Ford just selects one woman to wear one of his dresses. Usually, it’s a huge statement and a huge fashion moment to wear Tom Ford. But I felt like an a–hole for not really giving a sh-t about this from a fashion perspective. It wasn’t the worst look, at all, but it just didn’t feel groundbreaking in the least. Gal attended the Globes with her husband, Yaron Versano.

Emma Watson wore Ronald van der Kemp (which I dislike) and brought Marai Larasi as her date. Larasi is “the executive director of Imkaan, a U.K.-based women’s organization aimed at responding to and preventing violence against black minoritized women and girls.” Emma has really been trying to do more with intersectional feminism and I don’t hate her attempts. She’s still learning and good for her for using her platform.

Meryl Streep wore Vera Wang, and attended the Globes with Ai-Jen Poo, the director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance and an activist for elder-care and elder-care workers. Good for her. On a lighter note, I’m so glad that Meryl didn’t win another Golden Globe.

    He needs a haircut.

I love Gal Gabot, I feel like she can do no wrong

    • HIDI says:

right on ,Gal Gabot is awesome and she also wears the most classy and STYLISH dress of all ,in comparison to the mumsy ones worn by all the other ladies in the event

  2. Nicole says:

Emma has been pretty great on her intersectional feminism. She’s learning and open to it which is always a plus. Plus her monthly book club and interviews with Gloria and Malala have been wonderful. She another one that gave the interview over every chance she got last night.
    Still dont love her bangs

You know I was recently eye-rolling some article attacking intersectional theories saying something akin to lacking analysis through oversimplifications and narrow perspectives. LMAO… really? It’s the very definition of the polar opposite. The author hinted at unrealistic demands and overwhelming arguments. I swear, some people reside in their own private Idaho. I find intersectional theories mapping new social galaxies.

Emma has really stepped up and I just love her. She is very aware of her privilege and has been working to turn that into activism. I do wonder if she’ll get into politics at one point? She consistently shows up for international feminism and has done a lot to bring it to the forefront for boring white girls like me. She does the work, she learns, she turns it around so others can be educated. I love everything about her and she seems to really be growing into herself.

ETA because I forgot I was coming here to comment on Rob and Emma together. I hope it’s happening because I think they’d be great together!

I’m also not sure what to feel about Diane’s dress, I’ll just say she looks very nice and less sickly looking. Maybe I need more pictures upclose. Gal Gadot’s look was a bit underwhelming but they chose the right person to wear it because girl is gorgeous. The half jacket look is quite 80s. Is it me or Gal looks like the attractive girl you can talk to and she won’t be snooty? She appears more likeable after WW.

Maybe it’s the cynic in me. But I can’t help but feel that these activists are being used as props to buoy the actresses profile and make them seem more “woke”

i thought the bit in the monologue with the person ran out with awards when meyers said “spielberg, hanks and streep” was hilarious. they all thought it was hilarious too – the whole table was cackling.

  6. ariel says:

I first saw Diane Krueger on stage when she joined her director(?) for win for foreign language film – and I thought that dress was perfection.

    • Milla says:

I love the dress. Maybe too busy for last night, but she looked great and I’m always happy to see European actresses in Hollywood.

  7. tracking says:

I don’t think stills do Kruger’s dress justice. It was magnificent on camera and in motion. She and Mandy Moore were my best dressed.

Gal Gadot looked great, but I never would have guessed that was Tom Ford.

Loved seeing Emma and Marai look like they were having such a good time!

  8. Felicia says:

Kruger had one of the best looks of the night, imo. She looked spectacular.

Gal was probably my second favorite. Nothing fussy, but what she wore and how she wore it really suited her. She looked elegant.

  9. Lucy says:

I feel like we need to talk about Gal and her husband more. I mean, look at them!!

  10. Jayna says:

I think Diane’s gown was spectacular.

Gal looked amazing. I loved her gown on her, understated but beautiful.

  11. minx says:

I’m not a Kruger fan at all but I tonight she looked wonderful.

  12. Bridget says:

Was I the only one who thought it was super awkward when the director of In The Fade brought her up, and it was just the 2 of them on the stage, with her standing there in the background?

    • Pandy says:

No, I didn’t know she was connected with the film and actually said to my husband (who really did not care), “oh, maybe she’s translating from German for him?” Best dressed was Meryl’s date. Gal’s dress was awful. Imagine being stuck wearing that “honour”.

  13. FLORC says:

I hated Gal’s gown. Just awful. Dann if she and her husband aren’t the sexiest duo of the night. Gorgeous woman. Horrible dress.

  14. thecookingpan says:

Diana Kruger looked like she had on her grandmother’s curtains – I loathed her outfit. Her post-event outfit was marginally better.

Diana Kruger looked like she had her grannies curtains on – I loathed her outfit. Her post-event outfit was marginally better.

  16. Valiantly Varnished says:

I like Diane’s dress. I don’t love it. She’s worn better. It’s good that Emma is trying to be more intersectional…we shall see. Hate the dress and hate the bangs. Gal’s look is whatever. I’m indifferent to it. And I too am glad that Meryl didnt win another GG. Frankly I don’t think she should have even been nominated but we know that if Meryl sneezes it’s considered an amazing performance so…

  17. nemera34 says:

Diane Kruger was one of if not the best dressed last night. That dress is all kinds of gorgeous.

  18. Allison says:

Uh, can we talk about Emma Watson’s date Marai Larasi being misidentified by Getty as Lena Waithe? The caption on the click-through image reads “Actor Lena Waithe and actor Emma Watson attend The 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on January 7, 2018 in Beverly Hills, California.” I know her date is an unknown non-actor person, but come on, that is so not Lena Waithe.

  19. leidub311 says:

The first time I saw Diane’s dress was when she went on stage to accept the award, and I actually said, “Wow!” I think that dress is gorgeous, I love all the little crystal danglies.

  20. Grant says:

I love, love, LOVED Gal’s look. So classy and elegant, she’s sublime. It was one of my picks for best dressed of the night.
