Miley Cyrus helped a Voice contestant find an apartment and paid six months’ rent

I go to bed so early that I don’t have a chance to watch the many competition shows. I know that on The Voice and the other singing competitions the contestants form strong bonds with the judges and coaches. What is it about singing that brings harmony instead of discord? *waits for the groans to subside* Bad puns aside, I’ve heard that the judges and contestants can feel connected to each other.

Miley Cyrus is one of the judges on The Voice. At the beginning of this season, she was very excited to have been selected as a coach for contestant Janice Freeman. Janice, in addition to having a great voice, is a mom and a cancer survivor. When Janice was eliminated, Miley gave an impassioned speech in which she pledged that she would do anything for Janice and said she hoped she “can prove that.” Prove it, she did. Janice posted a video telling the world that Miley found a home for her and her kids:

People initially thought, as the tweet wrote, Miley had bought Janice a house but Janice clarified that Miley got her into an apartment and put up the first six months’ rent to give Janice some time to get back on her feet financially:

Wow. I mean, it’s a huge gesture. Again, going by the clips and tweets: what an amazing gift. For all the times I find fault in Miley’s behavior, I do think she honestly is a Happy Hippie at heart and would devote herself to making everyone’s life better if she could. Not saying she would always know how to do that, but she’d want to. It sounds like these two formed an honest friendship so I’m sure Miley took all things into consideration when she offered Janice the apartment. I don’t think she took the decision to do it lightly. For the record, Miley has yet to respond to her incredibly generous gift publicly. I doubt she was looking for attention from this, she just wanted to help someone she cared about.

What Miley is talking about is the holidays and her family, at least on Instagram she is. Before posting baby pics to celebrate her baby sis Noah’s birthday, Miley posted a bunch of Cyrus family Christmas shots. She posted a clip of the Cyrus ladies doing choreography to ‘N SYNC’s Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays. My goal in 2018 is to take a minute longer with nice moments than with ugly moments. To that end, I watched this twice because much like Miley’s desire to save the world with warm hugs, this is really sweet:

    Miley Cyrus is AWESOME.

That NSYNC christmas album is the only new (ish?) Christmas music I like. I always go for the classics, or a newer artist singing the classics.

I find Miley endless grating, but this was a truly heartwarming gesture. 🙂

Mylie annoys me, but this is legit a great thing. I’d like to think that I would do something similar if I were in her shoes

I have a friend whose little girl met Miley Cyrus back in her Hannah Montana days (or shortly thereafter idk). It was just by accident, she was going to see Miley’s concert and stay the weekend, her mom arranged it as like a mother-daughter weekend trip. Turns out, they ran into Miley walking into the hotel as she was walking out. She was super nice, spent time with the little girl, let them take pictures, signed stuff. I’ve always thought well of her after that. It’s one thing when they’re expecting to meet someone and have time to get their “nice” together, but for a chance encounter like that to still be sweet and kind is very cool. I like her, and this was a beautiful thing for her to do.

Miley has had her problems for sure, but this is a really lovely thing to do. I do think at her core she is a caring and kind person, and I hope that’s the side she shows us more and more.

Miley has also done a lot of work for at risk LGTBQ teenagers, I think she’s awesome.

As to people having a problem with her behavior – look at Britney, look at Christina, look at these stars who were introduced by the Disney channel. Amanda Bynes, Aaron Carter, etc. There’s a hell of a lot of substance abuse and mental health problems among them. Any guesses why? I think that could be the next Hollywood shoe to drop.

If Miley walked away from whatever the hell gets thrown at those kids with just a weed habit and the tenancy to stick out her tongue, I think we should be happy.

Amanda was nickelodeon. (And for some reason I’m thinking Carter was also nickelodeon? Don’t remember.)

While some people have those issues because of abuse, there are also those who had mental health issues or family problems to begin with. And then there are some who just experiment. There’s a need to be careful to not make assumptions about sexual abuse society’s automatic response to women indulging in certain vices (especially since with some, it’s clear that this is a part of an “I’m grown, Fuck being a Good Girl” strategy). So far, the women and men coming forward as a part of #MeToo have been all over the ‘Straight -laced’ v.s. Wild spectrum.

I’m not a huge Miley fan but what keeps me from hating her is simply her kindness. Honestly, I feel like she went through a major identity crisis and made it as public as possible…made some money off of it. And being she grew up famous she probably had a more difficult time figuring herself out. I think, to some degree the pendulum has swung back the other way and she needs to keep growing…that she’s not quite done but her emotional maturity is coming along well. She’s not a vapid famewhore who’s all about the money and image control. She really is a hippie at heart.

This is the nicest thing I’ve read in awhile. Miley’s music and public persona aren’t entirely to my (middle-aged) taste some of the time, but she has real talent as a singer, and it’s nice to see she has a kind heart too. Helping someone because you care about them and because you can — the world needs more of that.
