Being less thic skinned or experienced doesnt equate to mental issues, although it can be the source of difficulties for that person when they are tried in unexpectedly difficult situations. Even those who have gradually built up their fame can go through periods of being a bit unravelled. And instant fame just does not suit some people at all. In the 70s/80s there was a talent show called Opportunity Knocks. At it's height winners were guaranteed instant success, but how long-lasting and the effects of it could be were varied. Long-term success happened to a few like Lenny Henry, others like Lena Zavaroni fell victim to the pressure. But how could you practicably not allow "people like Susan" continue? Learning difficulties and mental illness are still misunderstood without marking them out for exclusion. And such exclusion would be against the law in any event. However, I believe that young children have no place on such competitions, and certainly not as soloists.
