Timothée Chalamet is so low-key, he didn’t tweeze his unibrow for the GQ cover

Kim Kardashian spotted at her Dash store in West Hollywood

Timothée Chalamet covers the new issue of GQ, and people are going crazy for this cover and editorial. People really love him, don’t they? I think it’s partly because he’s so young (he’s 22) to be a Best Actor Oscar nominee, and everything about him feels very fresh and new, even though he’s been a working actor for many years. You know how I know that Chalamet’s fame hasn’t quite peaked yet? Dude’s on the cover of GQ with a unibrow. Only men can get away with this bushy-brow look! Imagine if a lady had the audacity to rock a unibrow on the cover of a fashion magazine.

Chalamet’s GQ profile was written by Daniel Riley, who does a really good job of capturing the on-the-edge-of-the-precipice moment in Chalamet’s life. GQ also makes the case that perhaps Chalamet is The Guy of his generation, the Daniel Day-Lewis, the James Dean, the Christian Bale. Someone insanely talented whose performances will define a generation of actors. I’m not going to excerpt from the piece, but it’s definitely worth a read – go here for the full cover profile.

I’ve said before that I think Chalamet has handled his newfound fame really well – he’s got that self-conscious self-awareness that all Millennials seem to have, that “everything I do is being recorded somewhere” feel, which actually works well for a high-level Oscar campaign. He comes across as professional, cool, a bit dorky and very sweet. I hope fame doesn’t change him.

He seems self aware and well adjusted. Please man, don’t f this up! We want to root for you!

How sad is it that this is my reaction to rising stars these days?

  2. BaBaDook says:

I don’t know, I think he’s very talented (his performance in Call Me by Your Name was unbelievable) but I still get vibes off him in interviews that put me off. He seems like an artsy rich kid to me essentially.

    • SilverUnicorn says:

Same. No idea but I cannot warm up at him.

And imagine a 22-year-old female Oscar nominee ending up at a photo shoot with her unshaved legs…. she wouldn’t make it in front of the camera…

  3. MoxRox says:

Probably being a total noob it why is Hollywood fawning all over this guy. This is what they do for up and coming white actors and actresses. They write a million articles about how great they are, they get offered every role (appropriate or not, here’s looking at you, J. Law) and they get carted off to IT status very quickly. My point is this is so frustrating because there are so many actors and actresses of color who get 1/10th of the praise brand new white actors get. And I’m sure Timothée is amazing (though I saw him in Lady Bird and didn’t think his performance was anything special) but the fawning is tiresome.

    • sb says:

I think his lady bird role, same with lucas hedges…is such a small part though…and his character in that is also very non-responsive/jerky and aloof too. I don’t think you can necessarily show much range in a 1 dimensional role.
Call me by your name is really where it’s at

    • Tiffany says:

Agree with you 1000% but not for nothing, his performance in Name was spectacular. I think this guy is the real deal.

    • Mumzy says:

Just saw Lady Bird and LOVED it. I wasn’t sure what to expect but it perfectly captured my own memories of being that age—half kid, half not so kid and curious about who she really might be and what’s out there in the world. It hard to capture the feeling of love-hating your life and wanting to break free without hurting or burning down what has always been. Great film!

I agree that this guy didn’t wow in LB, but that was also his character…stereotypical teen philosopher, a taciturn rebel. Holden Caulfield 2017. He’s being made to be the new it kid because there always has to be one. He’s as good as any to be next on the conveyor. God help him.

And has the mouth breathing pose moved on to male celebs too? Sheesh….but hey, I love that he embraces the unibrow…why not?! Maybe it will be on the hot runways next year.

    • Nik says:

      @Moxrox

Agreed. He’s talented sure but the fawning over him is irksome.

    • Andrea says:

And why are you shocked? How many opportunities are there for other non-white actors? That’s why the industry has to change.

  4. Susan says:

‘ GQ also makes the case that perhaps Chalamet is The Guy of his generation’ Jesus

    • Mumzy says:

“Generation” in this context means however long it takes for you to fail to stop entertaining off-screen now that we’ve declared you the greatest.

    • Anname says:

As soon as you put someone on a pedestal like that, it’s human nature to want to knock him off. I don’t think it’s a wise PR strategy at all. If he is the real deal, it will become obvious over the years, but it’s almost a jinx to say it after one great role.

  5. Lucy says:

He’s a total cutie! May he go on to have a long, fulfilling, and scandal-free career.

  6. Dani says:

I haven’t yet seen “Call me by your name”, but I remember being transfixed by his performance in a little indie film called “Ms Stevens.” I hope to see him in many more good films to come.

  7. senna says:

I love how emotionally transparent and goofy he is. He’s also so beautiful, unibrow or not. I wish him a long career – may he not lose his joy and earnestness!

  8. Tig says:

Haven’t seen him seen him in Call but have seen the trailer. And, sorry, the physical discrepancy bet him and Armie were just too jarring- I get his character is supposed to be 17, but he looks 15 in the trailer, and Armie looks closer to 40(character is 24 in book?). Anyway, not sure I can over that enough to enjoy his performance. He didn’t have much to work with in Ladybird, but playing King Henry will be a different story.

    • ichsi says:

Yep, this. I don’t have a problem with the age difference in the book, but it’s the execution in the movie that pushes the wrong buttons for me. It doesn’t help that he’s styled as the perfect white twink during this campaign.

  9. Andrea says:

He should win the Oscar, but he won’t until 2035

  10. Margo S. says:

I LOVE timothée chalamet!! He’s such a cutie, and his performance in call me by your name is one of the best ones I’ve seen in my life. I’m an avid Oscar fanatic, and have watched every movie nominated every year since grade 7. I was blown away from this guy, plus his attitude and way he presents himself is just such a sigh of relief. He’s not a try hard. Plus I think spending his life switching between nyc and France has a lot to do with it.

  11. sadie77az says:

    I’m 43 and fan-girling him. 😄 He’s great.

  12. Ozogirl says:

Ick…there’s nothing good about a unibrow.

  13. bikki says:

First impression are pretty strong, right? His character was so unlikeable in Lady Bird, I’m glad my first exposure to him was “Call Me By Your Name” haha
He’s cool in my book. I’d like to see him in a very gritty dark drama.

  14. Putnam Princess says:

I loved Call Me By Your Name so much and he was amazing. I just saw it for a second time and was wowed again. I really liked Lady Bird but he didn’t make much of an impression on me. I will be I interested to see what he does in the future. A talent to watch.
