Carrie Underwood’s husband defends their marriage: ‘We’ve never been better’

A couple of weeks ago, Carrie Underwood covered US Magazine in a strange story defending her marriage. Carrie and professional hockey player Mike Fisher have been married since 2010. Fisher, 37, retired from hockey last year after serving as captain of the Nashville Predators. He came out of retirement and returned to the Predators this January, right before the US Weekly article was released. Not a lot of people were questioning her marriage when that story came out and it seemed like a preemptive strike. It’s possible US convinced her to go with a more sensational storyline to move copies as they’ve been tabloid-y since their acquisition by American Media. However Carrie is so Type A that she probably signed off on all of that at least.

In that story, Carrie, 34, said she was trying for another baby. She has son Isaiah, 3, with Mike, and I remember when she said, after she married Mike, that she didn’t want kids at the time and “a baby would just complicate things.” So she’s changed since being married and having her first child, it happens! I just like to watch how celebrities explain their life choices. The rest of us don’t have to do that.

Anyway Carrie’s husband Mike posted a cryptic Bible verse recently, that’s below. They’re both very religious and Carrie has said that they read The Bible together. People commented that they should weather the storm together and Mike responded that they’re not having problems and are great.

Mike Fisher… felt the need to speak out after he shared a biblical passage on Instagram, which one follower interpreted as a cry for help. The verse from Psalm 139:23-24 read: “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

His post, published on Sunday, February 18, received more than 22,000 comments — including one from user @beverly.ayers.

“Praying for you and Carrie. Ignore the media! Hold tight to each other. There are always bumps in the road. Keep focusing on Jesus!” she wrote. “He will guide you thru!”

Fisher swiftly responded: “That’s not media. We’ve never been better. Thanks.”

Not only have Fisher and the country singer never been better — but Us Weekly revealed earlier this month that the parents of 2-year-old son, Isaiah, are actively trying to became pregnant.

“Everyone around her knows she wants a big family, and they’re always trying for another baby,” a pal of the Grammy winner told Us.

But for the time being, Underwood, 34, and Fisher, who recently announced that he’s returning to the Nashville Predators after a five-month retirement, are happy as a party of three. “Carrie and Mike have a great life and a very strong marriage — one that their friends envy,” an insider told Us. “They are completely committed to each other and in it for the long run.”

[From US Magazine]

What does he mean by “that’s not media?” Is he referring to his quote? As for the rest of it, again why address it at all? Like just let that slide, especially when it’s a comment. My spidey sense is tingling with these two, and there have been rumors for years that they’re having problems. As Kaiser often explains, when someone tries hard to convince me of something I question it. I hope I’m wrong though.

One of my new favorite verses because I need this reminder daily!

I mean, it’s been what, six months since retirement and now he is back. That was the indicator that all was not right in the house to begin with. When he was on the road, she was either in the studio or touring and now they are finally home at the same time. And the accident she had, I mean, I just don’t see him as someone who will take the household reigns when Carrie is recuperating.

This feels a little beyond getting on each other’s nerves a little bit. If the Preds win the cup this year, I would expect an announcement by summer.

  2. larry says:

Didn’t she get hurt in an accident recently and needed surgery. any word on how she’s doing now?

  3. Millenial says:

My 2 year old son has the same jammies as Isaiah! For some reason that makes me smile. Carrie shops on Amazon just like the rest of us.

Anyways, good luck to them. I don’t like these statements though. It’s kind of a, “where there’s smoke…”

    Publicly defending their marriage?

    Divorce in 3,2…

  5. Bri says:

Doth protest too much. I didn’t realize he returned to the NHL….interesting.

  6. Birdie says:

lol at the aniston story on the us magazine cover.

  7. JA says:

I wonder if you know everyone will read into things and you have so many followers and your wife is a country music star and you yourself say media will bite on anything, post such a verse with no explanation or follow up. Like “I’m just gonna leave this here and see what happens”? Hmmmm let’s see how this plays out

  8. LizLemonGotMarried (aka The Hufflepuff Liz Lemon) says:

Have we seen Carrie since the accident? That whole situation was a little curious to me.

  9. KBeth says:

I always find it odd when celebrities publicly defend their marriage.

Sometimes a Bible quote is just a Bible quote!

    • Irrelevant Girl says:

I agree. Maybe getting back into playing shape has been more challenging than he expected? On social media, my friends post all kinds of Bible quotes when they are training/working-out.

    • brooksie says:

Exactly! He and his family have always been super religious. I am friends with his younger brother (we went to college together) and they regularly post and refer to Bible quotes.

  11. HelloSunshine says:

I don’t understand how that quote led to marriage speculation? I don’t know much about the Bible, can anyone explain to me if it’s specific to marriage or something?
Edit: or is this only being questioned because of the US Weekly article??

    according to cdan he’s abusive…

He may be referencing a couple of “blind” items from the past couple of months.

  14. mela says:

it could be just a freak accident but it being paired with divorce rumors, abuse rumors….someone close to Carrie should check in with her and ask her if anyone is threatening her at home…

I was abused by an ex and I always came up with nonsensical cover up stories and looking back – none of them ever added up or made any sense. I wasn’t fooling ANYONE. Ironically, my ex told me one to tell the doctor one time “I slipped in the shower and dislocated my shoulder” when in reality he had punched me in my chest & shoulders (never my face) and tackled me until my shoulder popped out…

Kinda like Carrie’s “i slipped and fell and got 50 stitches across my FACE story” FIFTY STITCHES from a slip and fall? This is suspicious. He might have slammed her face into something, punched her or threw her into something glass in which she hit face first.

something stinks here and hope someone checks on her.

  15. Pix says:

Something stinks here. Nashville is such a dark gossip town. I’ve never been a fan of hers and I really hope that she is not being abused. Hockey players have a lot of aggression. Seems like he needed to take it back to the ice and out of his home? Is that why he’s back from retirement?

  16. ladybug says:

Are those sex toys on shelf #2? If so her accident may have been caused by rough sex. Lol

  17. G6 says:

These out there religious people always have scary skeletons in their closets. If a guy was posting quotes on the reg, especially about God helping clean away his sin lol, I would run for my life!

  18. PJ says:

I smell blood in the water here…

I thought that US Weekly cover was SO bizarre for a couple of reasons:
    1. She lives a very low key, private life away from the stage unless she’s doing something like promoting her Calia line on IG or appearing in the occasional fitness mag.
    2. Carrie Underwood’s life is hardly watercooler talk and I think her people know this so…who was talking about her marriage enough prior to the article to warrant the magazine piece?
    3. Forgive me for this (and God knows, I hope it isn’t true), there were blinds on several sites claiming that her recent “fall” that required pins in her arms and 50 facial stitches had much more sinister origins (I’ll leave it at that). The week after those blinds were written, the US article was published.*interesting*

Whatever the case, I hope Carrie and her son are safe & happy. I don’t pretend to know what goes on behind the closed doors of the people in my real life so I’m certainly not going to do it with celebrities.

    • mela says:

      pins in her arms????

Good lord…someone needs to check on her…What kind of slip and fall requires pins in the arm and 50 facial stitches and facial reconstruction?

If they look at her medical history and see she has been in the ER/doctor for random various “injuries” in addition to this “fall” in the past year – the hospital needs to look into abuse. asap.

When I was getting abused, I had a year of random visits for various “ailments” and “accidental” injuries like concussions, dislocated limbs, nervous break down. On a case by case basis, they weren’t suspicious but aggregated was very obvious something was wrong and the nurses knew.I hope she’s alright.

And I always took myself to the hospital, alone. I wonder if he was present with her at the hospital. My abuser didn’t want to be associated with my injury in fear of getting caught so I would have to take myself to the hospital.

      • PJ says:

@Mela: My God. I am so sorry that you had to live through that! I hope you are safe & happy now ❤

Yes. Carrie shared an x-ray of her hand and stated that she had to have surgery to RECONSTRUCT her wrist post fall. As someone who has had a couple of close girlfriends suffer through physical abuse in our younger years, idk…that raised major red flags for me. I suppose anything is possible but I’ve never personally heard of someone slipping on ice while walking and needing wrist re-construction and 50 stitches in their face because of it I mean, that’s more than is needed on a c-section! It’s all worrying for sure.

      • Spicecake38 says:

@mela I really hope and pray you are in a better place now and think you are very strong to speak out regarding your previous situation. My ex husband abused me and I got out.Thankfully

@mela and PJ-I wasn’t going to speculate on the status of their marriage, but after reading both of your comments I’ll say one other suspicious thing I heard/read somewhere was that regarding her fall she stated the multiple stitches she had,and she also was reported as saying that when we see her again she may be unrecognizable? My husband heard this too and we thought oh -plastic surgery has probably been done, but why call attention to it?Now I think he hurt her and major corrective surgery had to have been done Hopefully I’m wrong 💔

  19. Lucy2 says:

When the last article about her injury was posted, didn’t everyone say he was out of town when it happened?
This “defending the marriage” thing is really weird. Do people talk about her or their marriage a lot?
