Nope to the no thanks ever on that movie! The first one was dull and redundant anyway. This is the Star Wars Prequels/bloated Hobbit trilogy of this universe. Nooooo thanks.

That’s so sweet Barry Jenkins got to do that but I wish that had been Oscar night. I’ll be rooting for “If Beale Street Could Talk” to be amazing so he gets his chance.

    • PPP says:

I liked the movie a lot and I really like that they have a caring, empathetic man in the lead. That’s such a rarity that I’m not gonna let Johnny Depp take it away from me.

“I really like that they have a caring, empathetic man in the lead. That’s such a rarity”

….Not really? That’s pretty common these days. TV and film.

You know what is rare? LGBTQ characters portrayed openly on screen and in romantic situations and clearly acknowledging their authentic selves. Maybe this movie coul…oh…right. 😒

  2. xdanix says:

The fact that the MOVIE has any Johnny Depp in it is too much JD for me!

I have loved Harry Potter and everything related to it since I started reading the books when I was 8, and saw every movie in cinema. I WORSHIPPED JK Rowling. But I’m so, so bitterly disappointed by the casting of Depp, and the handling of it since. I just can’t support this movie.

    • Lady D says:

Rejoiced in the fact that there was a new author out there drawing millions and millions of children to books. So disappointed.

  3. Mel M says:

That was exactly what I was thinking when I saw it 🤔.

  4. Chaine says:

I was side-eying the Madonna movie, but reading the article I feel a little better about it. Hopefully she will keep it a heart-warming story about a war orphan/dancer and NOT play a role in it herself.

    • Slowsnow says:

Michaela DePrince’s story is much more than what was summed up in the DListed article. She saw rebels cutting up her teacher’s pregnant belly and I will spare you the rest (the teacher who actually supported her then crazy project of being a ballet dancer). Ballet kept her sane. Moreover, she not only is black but also has depigmentation marks on her face (so she was ranked last in her orphanage and considered to be the “devil’s child”), so she faced adversity after adversity. Madonna’s incapacity of understanding other culture’s hardship makes me really upset about this whole thing and my only hope is that DePrince turns her down.

  5. Rumi says:

They could’ve easily recast this role. I was very hurt by Rowling and how she handled it and her support for him.
It was a huge let down for me.
This character is supposed to be very handsome so I don’t see it with Depp. He lost his looks a long time ago.

      word!

You can’t hide JD from us, we won’t forget he’s in this film. I won’t be going to see this, and I hope the box office reflects the general disgust towards JD’s behaviour.

  6. Morgan says:

I think the trailer looks awesome and I can’t wait to see the movie – just me? My impression of the lack of Johnny Depp was that Grindelwald will be more of an implied menace than an actual onscreen villain. I don’t care for him or him in the role, but not nearly enough to diminish my love of anything in the HP universe.

  7. GH says:

    Can’t wait!!

  8. Milla says:

Ross is wearing white cowboyish boots which are super trendy at the moment. So there. Case closed.

Madonna , once again, pissed me off. Sorry, but how is she qualified to make a movie about a black dancer?

I don’t care for Harry Potter or beasts, but law looks yummy.

And finally, Perry cannot sing. There.

  9. Anna says:

Can’t wait for this prequel to the Harry Potter series. So much fun to have this world back. Depp will be great as Grindlewald!

  10. Digital Unicorn says:

I will see this as i quite enjoyed the first one in which Colin Farrell was criminally underused – HE should have been cast as Crindelwald.

Am totally digging Jude Law as Dumbledore. Yeah his personal life is a mess but he’s still great to watch on the screen.

    • Rumi says:

Colin Farrell is a very underrated actor. I’d watch him over any Hollywood A Lister, like Leo, Brad, Matt, Batfleck, Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, Mark Wahlberg, Clooney.
They could’ve gotten Christian Bale, Chris Pine, Ralph Fiennes, omg just came tomind imagine Mathew Goode or Rob James-Collier!!!
Rob is so beautiful and can do evil – I would’ve loved to see him in that role!

  11. Stacy Dresden says:

Harry Potter is one of the most important cultural relevancies in my life. Not interested in these new films and certainly won’t support any Depp projects.

  12. Molly says:

I honestly found first Fantastic Beasts movie to be so, so boring. I doubt second one could be more interesting because like what is there to tell exactly? Jude Law does look very good. They were going for hot Dumbledore and it looks like they succeeded.

  13. Jamie42 says:

The puppy story on Buzzfeed is terrible. Airlines need to find a way to transport pets safely, or at least to stop pretending they can and making people pay extra for unsafe conditions.

    • minx says:

I could barely read that story. If it had been my dog….

      • Dhavynia says:

Same here, I’m glad is all over the news so that people can be aware but I can’t stomach to watch or read the report because I think about my own dog and the torture that poor pooch must have gone through

      • minx says:

Dhavynia–Then United mistakenly flew a dog that was supposed to go to Kansas City to, um, Japan. At least the dog is alive. Of the 24 pet deaths on US airlines last year, 18 were from United.

    • Sam the Pink says:

The story makes no logical sense. Did the owner not tell the attendant that there was a dog in there? Did she not check on the dog at all during the flight? And why did she comply? I get that people need to travel, but nobody would ever convince me to put my cat in the overhead – I’d go back to the gate and raise holy hell (sorry, fellow travelers!). But I would not comply.

I blame absolutely everybody involved in this. A pox on them all.

      • Jamie42 says:

I wondered about all your very good questions as well. I have small dogs, and I would have gotten off the plane or raised hell. This woman also had small children in tow, as I understand it, so perhaps the general difficulties of such travel got to her.
I also know that as I’ve gotten older, I’ve become much less automatically compliant and less afraid to make a scene (which is one of the great gifts of growing older–and pushback works!)
All that being said, United has a terrible record in killing traveling pets–18 out of the 24 killed last year by all airlines, as noted above–so they are doing something really wrong.

  14. Saks says:

I love the HP universe and I actually really liked FB but I don’t know if I’m seeing this movie. The fact that JK Rowling defended him and they went through with him for the next movies (and could’ve kept Colin Farrell) really bothers me. They hadn’t even begun shooting this one when Amber accused him, but they stood by the abuser, so…

  15. dee says:

Jude Law is the Sexy Beast so I will be seeing this movie!

  16. eatingpie says:

Super disappointed in the casting of Depp in Fantastic Beasts, and even more disappointed in Rowling’s loud support of him. But I suppose she’s one of those progressive people who were very progressive for the late 90s and early 20s with views that were revolutionary back then, but now are just woefully inadequate. I suppose she’s too rich to learn or care though.

  17. Other Renee says:

HP has a special place in my life as my daughter and I attended every midnight book release party as she was growing up. We read the second book together, meaning that neither of us wanted to wait for the other to finish it so we craned our heads and each of us read at her own pace. Sounds funny and probably looked funny to anyone watching us but it was truly meaningful to us.

That being said I refuse to watch any Depp film. Just looking at that smug face makes me ill. I passed on Murder on the Orient Express for the same reason although I’m a huge Christie fan. I feel the need to take a stand on these films and not support the work of someone who abuses others. We speak with our wallets even if that’s the only control we have.

  18. LittlefishMom says:

He shouldn’t have three seconds in it.

  19. Madpoe says:

Criminal charges need to be brought regarding that airline dog story!
I am beyond repulsed animals are so mistreated.
