Are Meghan Markle & Prince Harry going on vacation *before* their wedding?

Personally, I find the concept of a “babymoon” to be quite nice. A “babymoon” is when a couple decides to go away on holiday, generally a few months before the wife/girlfriend gives birth. Everything about having babies is stressful, so it must be nice for couples to have that one last vacation before their lives completely change. But is there such a thing as a weddingmoon? Or an engagementmoon? Is it a thing to go on vacation just before your wedding? Theoretically, it’s similar to a babymoon in that the soon-to-be-married couple is stressed out from planning the wedding and their lives are about to change and all of that. But surely that’s what the honeymoon is for? Still, it seems like Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are possibly going on vacation BEFORE the wedding.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to take a break from their wedding preparations to enjoy a holiday hopping around the Greek islands, MailOnline understands. The soon-to-be married couple are planning to spend a day on the party island of Zakynthos as part of an early summer Mediterranean break before their wedding at Windsor Castle on May 19, a hotel boss on the island claims. Claims that the royal pair will be paying a visit to the popular holiday island at the beginning of May has been hugely welcomed by the inhabitants.

Businessman Spiros Lougaris, owner of the Hotel Castelli on the island posted on Facebook: ‘Good Morning dear friends. We have just been informed that His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales (familiarly known and loved as Prince Harry) and Meghan Markle will be arriving in Zakynthos on a ONE DAY stopover of a trip in early May PRIOR to their wedding. It is an enormous pleasure and honour for the whole island and of course for our friend Maria Drogitis that will be their personal guide, the Municipality stakeholders and all residents and visitors, that share the same enthusiasm for our beautiful island of Zakynthos!’

But Harry and Meghan will not stay overnight on Zakynthos – which has gained a notorious after-dark reputation as a party island where hard drinking and high-jinks have at times turned to murder. Another hotel owner told MailOnline: ‘Prince Harry and his fiancé will not spend the night on Zakynthos. They will only come for the day.’

While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s full itinerary is being kept as a closely guarded secret, the couple are expected to fly to Corfu – the birthplace of the royal’s grandfather Prince Philip. It is believed the couple will board a yacht in Corfu to sail to Zakynthos and other Ionian islands such as Lefkas, which is a favourite of Harry’s father Prince Charles, ahead of their wedding. The trip may also coincide with Prince Charles’s first official visit to Greece, scheduled to take place from 9 to 11 May.

That complicated itinerary is enough to stress me out – if I’m taking a vacation, I want it to be as low-stress as possible. One flight, one hotel, one beach and one unlimited supply of mojitos. Why can’t anything be that simple? Why all of the island-hopping and yacht-hopping? And why so close to the wedding date? That seems like it would be even more stress to drop everything for a minibreak just a week before the wedding. As for this Greek dude announcing Meghan and Harry’s visit… that’s the kind of no-no that will make them change their plans, honestly. Plus, let’s be honest: Meghan and Harry’s images would be hurt by looking too vacation-happy, especially given William and Kate’s history. Meg and Harry are supposed to be “the good ones.”

Perhaps it is a wedding gift to each other?

    • I don’t know, I will believe it when i see it. I think it’s a cheap way to get free publicity. The fact that they mentioned who their “guide” is sounds like a big no no or outright lie.

      • Lilly says:

It’s not a good strategy security-wise, for sure. My friend is getting married this weekend and I know if she could have a pre-wedding get away would have been great. Weddings are stressful. I tried to have a pre-baby trip, but then she came early. Oh well.

  2. Jussie says:

Harry’s always had at least as many or at times considerably more overseas trips as William. Meghan also spent the last year and a half travelling with him very, very regularly. They aren’t the ‘good’ ones, they’re just more likeable, so they get a pass.

Also what exactly are they ‘dropping’ to go on this vacation. They’re both unemployed, they have no engagements scheduled for that period, and they aren’t the ones who’d be running about doing any kind of wedding prep. Whether they stay in the UK or go abroad, they’ll be on vacation. About 2/3 of their lives are a vacation.

    • Lela says:

Do British taxpayers have to fund any of the security that goes along with vacations and personal trips or is that paid for privately?

      • Inthekitchen says:

I believe all security, regardless of location or purpose, is taxpayer funded. I think the only exception is when they are invited on an official foreign tour and then the inviting country pays. So in some sense it doesn’t matter if they are at home or abroad the taxpayers are still paying (although granted probably less security is needed when at home).

      • Maum says:

Security is taxpayers-funded as far as I know. He’s a Royal Highness so he gets the protection that goes with it.

      • pia says:

He had many incognito trips to TO to see her as well.

      +1

    • Veronica says:

Exactly!! Of COURSE they are going away again! When was their last trip? Last month.

Harry is as entitled and spoiled as William is and anyone here who thinks Meghan hasn’t and won’t continue to jump right into that pampered, entitled, jet-setting lifestyle is in for a very huge disappointment. They traveled extensively since they met, and they will continue to vacation on the taxpayers’ dime.

    Oh dear.

I’m still giving them a year, but, seriously? A pre-wedding vacation? Spend a weekend at Balmoral or something.

Just to be smart about it, be disciplined and enthusiastic for a year or two and then slowly start the island hopping jaunts.

  4. Inthekitchen says:

I seriously don’t get why anyone is taking this man seriously! When have they (royals) ever announced things that far in advance and when have they ever announced vacation plans at all?!

To me, this is just an attempt by this hotel owner business man to get some free publicity and hopefully drive traffic to his island or hotel or whatever. It reminds me of the Israeli (?) fashion designer who claimed the palace had asked for wedding dress designs. I didn’t believe that fashion designer and don’t believe this hotel owner guy either. IMO they just want free publicity and I’ll not think otherwise until KP actually confirms this. Also as the post says, no one who is actually working with the royals (or wants to work with them again in future) is going to go blabbing about the relationship!

    • Kelly says:

How is it doing the hotel owner any good when the implication is it’s too dangerous there for Harry and Meghan to spend the night?

  5. Tiffany says:

Their whole relationship is a vacation. This does not surprise me, at all.

Plans might change now because I am sure they did not want this public.

  6. Kitty says:

You guys believe the monarchy will last after The Queen is gone? I always felt like The Queen has known this and I feel bad for her.

    • Connell says:

I think the Monarchy will end a few years or so after the Queen dies. PC works hard, he’s competent, but people cannot forget what he did. He isn’t popular. People still resent Camilla. There are financial concerns, of course.

      • Kitty says:

Connell, I agree with you. I believe the monarchy would end after The Queen. William and Kate won’t step up, Harry and MM are just the same as WK, and Charles while I do like him he’s not popular enough. Do you think The Queen knows this?

      • How will the govt look like after this “ending”?

    • Shotcaller says:

If the British monarchy or personality based it would have ended with Kim John. You’d be surprised what people are willing to overlook in favor of institutional traditions that they, in principle, find comforting and stabilizing. Still plenty of monarchists out there. The question is what commonwealth members might sever ties.

      • Kitty says:

Well if lots of Commonwealth countries do away with the monarchy the monarchy will severely diminish its role.

    • dodgy says:

I really want the Monarchy to go when the Queen dies. I want it to be interrogated thoroughly. We can’t be in the throes of Brexit suffering and catching rats whilst this lot is living it up.

    • Msthang says:

Kitty, give or take 5 to 20 years after HM croaks, I think it will be Kaput!!!

  7. Anna says:

I wouldn’t exactly call a one-day trip a vacation. They’re probably there to pick up something for the wedding. Are they going anywhere else after that?

    • Maum says:

Well yes they are getting a yacht and sailing round the Greek islands (as per article).

    • Nick2 says:

As someone who is pretty busy and a husband who’s work schedule is difficult to work with, I can tell you that, yes a day trip can be a vacation. We’ve done many just across the border and even managed a few trips to Disneyland or Universal (for my Potter loving ass).

  8. Ari says:

I am pretty sure this is for the wedding of one of Harry’s friends who is getting married in May. That is the only way I can see them travelling so close to their own wedding.

  9. Sage says:

I’m going to give them 7 years to get the shyte together…. bahahahaha

  10. Pandy says:

Big surprise. Another Royal Holiday. It’s pretty much a constant holiday interspersed with a few days here and there of showing up someplace for a one or two hour photo opp and tour. Then a stress holiday is required. Because, you know, hard work.

  11. Tallyhoo says:

Going on a yacht from island to island is actually really relaxing, especially if you’re not sailing it yourself. No packing up a beach bag, or lunch, or having to schlep from the room to the pool or the beach, just lounging on the deck, jumping in the water if you want to cool off, no random people walking by, having everything right there, plus getting a change of scenery or lovely beach if you want it. But I’m skeptical that this story is actually true.

  12. Chef Grace says:

Good for them. Good for anyone who can afford to travel.
Hey. I am driving to look at wildflowers tomorrow. Traveling with a Pharaoh.
(My crazy blue cat) Pharaoh Loki .

    Tcha ha,
And people were sooo passionately defending the difference and specialNess of these two dummies. They just have better communication skill and don’t comemoff as sour puss. Otherwise,… all are ssme
