Justin Timberlake & Jessica Biel are doing cryotherapy every other day?

75th Golden Globe Awards

When athletes talk about the strange or ridiculous things they do to get any kind of “edge,” I often roll my eyes. Tom Brady is a good example of that – most of what he’s shilling in The TB12 Method is a hodge-podge of bad science and rebranded old wisdom (like “pliability training” is basically just yoga/stretching). But one thing that I’m seriously, no-joke interested in? Cryotherapy. Most athletes take ice baths to recover from strenuous activities, but some athletes are taking it next level by going into a cryo-chamber – with subzero, -70 degree temperatures – for several minutes as a way to help their bodies recover. Rafa Nadal was doing the cryo-chamber throughout the French Open last year and he won that trophy. Will other athletes follow suit? And will other celebrities start freezing their balls off too?

Justin Timberlake is literally freezing his butt off. The superstar singer and his actress wife, Jessica Biel, have been spotted making frequent trips to Tribeca’s Quick Cryo, “Page Six TV” first revealed. Timberlake and Biel are undergoing cryotherapy, we’re told, which involves standing in a tank of subzero temperatures for three minutes, sparking a physical reaction, which burns up to 800 calories.

While the treatment fights inflammation and has weight-loss benefits, we’re told Timberlake — who has a downtown penthouse with Biel — has been using it to help with muscle pain and recovery as he undergoes intense rehearsals for his NYC tour dates starting Wednesday at MSG.

A source said, “When Justin is in town, he and Jessica are here every other day.” He’s also been spotted at the luxury spa’s oxygen bar prior to the deep freeze, which is said to increase the effectiveness of cryo. It costs $85 per pop, or $600 a month for unlimited sessions.

Is it safe to do it every other day? I don’t know. While I doubt Justin Timberlake is putting his body through some hardcore rigours in rehearsals, he is getting a bit older (he’s 37) and it takes longer for his body to recover from a strenuous rehearsal. So do you think this is just junk science or is this the new frontier for athletes and dancers and performers? Hm.

Justin’s doing something that starts with a C every other day…don’t know if it’s cryotherapy though. Dem pupils don’t lie.

    • *scrolls back up* Huh, interesting, they look like pinpricks.

      • Wiffie says:

There are 50 flash bulbs in his face as this photo is taken. It’s essentially a very bright wall of bulbs he’s staring into. The eye will constrict pupils top let less light in so he doesn’t go blind.

Besides, cocaine DILATES pupils, so if they have large black eyes in bright flashbulbs, that’s going to be your indicator there.

I just heard about this process yesterday, that’s how out of it I am. And I am very interested too. I have a lot of pain from years of running. I would love to know if it works.

    • Bridget says:

It’s not intended for use that way. It’s the same as an ice bath – to reduce inflammation from a particularly hard training session that your body may not have adequate time to recover from before your next workout hits.

i always thought it had to do with a women freezing eggs maybe to have a baby later in life like Sofia Vergara did with her ex. God am i out of touch with science since i left high school:)

    • Dita von Katzhausen says:

I just read the headline and thought it was a therapy session in which everybody has to cry a lot….that’s how out of touch I am ….

  4. Bridget says:

I’ve done it. It’s nothing special. The idea is that cryotherapy/ice baths will reduce inflammation from over-exertion and cut down recovery times. But it’s not a miracle worker, AND normally it’s that inflammation that Spurs our bodies to build strength. I wouldn’t pay for cryotherapy when I can just hop into an ice bath immediately (which is also when you need to do it).

My job takes me to medical centers around the country for software training, so I actually got to try this out for free at one those “new age” pharmacies. It’s…interesting. I don’t know if there’s any real studies suggesting long term advantages, but you could do worse to your body, honestly.

  6. Kit says:

I misread the headline. I thought they were in crying therapy.

    • Veronica says:

Nah, that’s just what Biel tells him she’s doing whenever he’s finished during sex.

    • ABC says:

Lmao so did I!! I was thinking, ‘good grief Hollywood, whatever will you snowflakes think of next’ then actually READ the article and was like 😳. Whatever, it sounds expensive and faddish.

  7. Harryg says:

    Why is he so creepy?

  8. Brandi says:

Jennifer Biel?? Omg that’s hilarious 😂😂😂 i know it’s just a typo but somehow it seems really funny lol

  9. Keels says:

I’m a fan of the process, especially if you’re really active or are doing some serious training for something. Cryotherapy saved me when I was training for my first marathon, and now it’s a heavy recovery component in every training cycle I do – along with ART massage and compression. I feel like it takes a minimum of three sessions to really start feeling a difference in recovery if you have an injury – when my hip was in bad shape, I went five days in a row before I could really tell a difference in performance and recovery time.
