Busy Philips got sunburned eyes on a photoshoot and ended up in the ER

Busy Philips is one of the hardest working people in Hollywood. Unfortunately, she can’t seem to find the right project to get off the ground, which is too bad because some of them sounded really good. But she’s able to keep up her visibility with her hustle – and I say that with admiration. However, it seems like poor Busy just can’t catch a break. Her latest WTF was compliments of a magazine shoot she did for a magazine cover. Following the all day shoot on a yacht, Busy’s eyes started to bother her, which she mistook was an allergic reaction. So she posted this shot to her Instagram to see if anyone recognized it:

Her condition got worse and prevented her from sleeping because “it felt like there were shards of glass,” in her eyes. It turned out that she had photokeratitis, which is like a sunburn on your cornea:

Photokeratitis is, “a painful eye condition that occurs when your eye is exposed to invisible rays of energy called ultraviolet (UV) rays, either from the sun or from a man-made source.” Most people are familiar with snow-blindness, which is a form of photokeratitis that occurs when the sun’s rays are reflected off ice or snow (snow blindness can also be when the cornea freezes). Like snow blindness, the sun’s rays reflecting off water can heighten the risk off photokeratitis. Blue or light eyes are more prone to it as well. Poor Busy checked all the boxes to get this.

Later, she posted an Instagram story discussing her ordeal and referenced when Anderson Cooper addressed the condition last year. Cooper’s was so bad, he was blind for 36 hours. Like any sunburn, the degree of damage can go from irritating to permanent. The good news is, Busy is fine. But like I said, poor Busy cannot catch a break, a fact that was not lost on her when she said in her Instagram story, “I was just saying though it’s so on-brand I get one big magazine cover and I do one photo shoot and I burn my eyeballs … You gotta be careful when you’re on photo shoots or on yachts.”

Honestly, they could write a sitcom based on Busy’s adventures and then she could star in it. We could call it Too Busy Instagramming.

I have an irrational hatred of this woman. I can’t explain why, I just do.

    That sounds extremely painful.

lol…I don’t hate her, but I do find her quite annoying. I think it’s because the only thing I ever saw her in was CougarTown and the way she spoke her lines in that drove me crazy. It was almost like a “valley girl” type of affect on her voice and it IRKED me.

      • Norman Bates' Mother says:

That was the whole point of her character! She was using vocal fry to make her character sound like a vapid dumbo she was.

    • Amy says:

Isn’t that funny? I have the opposite: and irrational love of this woman. I can’t explain it either! #people

She’s seem’s really needy and not just career wise. just my opinion.

She seems ridiculously thirsty, but also very kind and loving. I go back and forth on her.

When I was a teen, practically living at the beach every day (we didn’t know about sunscreen/damage at the time!), I got sunburned so badly that my eyes were swollen by evening, and swollen shut by the next morning. The pain, like glass shards and sticks was excruciating. I also ended up in the emergency room, as my mom took one look at my swollen, red face, and bundled me off to Cedars lol. Needless to say, I ALWAYS wore sunglasses in the sun after that.

To this day, my eyes are so sensitive, I have wrap around sunglasses with a “ledge” on top, to protect my eyes, and I try and use my hat all the time, even driving top down. Lesson learned!

Sunglasses are how one avoids needing cataract surgery in old age. They will scrape off part of your eyeball with a scalpel people! It’s scary! Wear sunglasses, even on cloudy days.
I’m so terrified of cataract surgery.

I get that same pain in my eyes when I look at her.

The whole “photo shoot of me in distress while having a medical problem” is so hard to get past. The neediness and just EXTRANESS is too much.

Haha… arrange messy hair, head in hand, medical bracelet showing. Ready for my close-up!

When I was younger, around 10 maybe, I was visiting my aunt in the Netherlands. She had a tanning bed in her home (this was like 1992), so I tried it out, without using the goggles. Holy hell did my eyes ever hurt and I had the worst headache for days.

I really like her – she was pretty awesome on Freaks and Geeks and on Dawson’s Creek. I’ve only heard good things about her and Michelle Williams from locals who saw a lot of them in the DC days, so she has my vote. She’s honest about making money from social media, so I get why she seems “extra” – but that’s where her bread and butter is right now. If you don’t like her that’s fine – I feel the same way about Nancy Kerrigan (weird, I know) with the irrational instinctive loathing – but if you haven’t seen F and G, give it a try. You might find you like her more than you thought.

She had a two scene role in He’s Just Not Into You, but I thought her small scenes were two of the best in the movie. She’s very, very pretty, too. I’m confused about how less talented, less attractive actresses get big roles (Evangeline Lily?) but actresses like Busy get looked over.
