Meghan Markle & Prince Harry are making an unannounced trip to Belfast

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visit the Eikon Centre in Lisburn

This was unannounced. No one knew that this royal trip to Belfast was going to happen. I suspect that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s day-trip to Belfast wasn’t given any advance press because of security concerns, because even after all these years after The Troubles, it’s still a massive security concern for a member of the royal family to visit Northern Ireland. Prince William and then-Kate Middleton went to Belfast during their engagement too – it was one of Kate’s first official public appearances with William. For Meghan, it’s more about Harry wanting to “introduce” her to the United Kingdom.

Fashion IDs: Meghan is wearing a Mackage coat which (again) looks slightly too big for her. I get that Meghan has a small frame and she must have very delicate shoulders, but the answer is just going for a smaller size. It’s really that simple. Her sweater is Victoria Beckham, possibly/probably the same one she wore in the official engagement portraits. The skirt is by Greta Constantine and the purse is Charlotte Elizabeth. Much like I hoped Meghan would make trousers her fashion-signature, I suspect that Meghan’s real fashion signature is small-handled handbags, rather than shoulder bags or clutches. The outfit, on the whole, is fine. It’s nice to see her in a skirt after several appearances in trousers. And I do love Meg’s commitment to separates.

PS… Her shoe game is better than Kate’s, but that’s setting the bar pretty low. I do find her velvet heels enchanting though.

PPS… I hope they visit the Game of Thrones set in Belfast and Meghan sits on the throne.

  1. Chef Grace says:

Hey. Shoes make or break an outfit.
    Those shoes rock.

    • Astrid says:

is there a designer ID on the shoes?

    • Olenna says:

Yes, they do rock, and the color coordination for this entire outfit is spot on.

Another site said the shoes are Manolo Blahnik.

      • Honey says:

But I feel like she messed up a great pair of shoes with that outfit.

      • Olenna says:

Honey, I’m OK with the outfit. I’ve commented before about MM wearing clothes that overwhelm her petite frame and the need for tailoring. Here, we know that the coat is not new and as someone below said, perhaps she is used to wearing bulky layers under her coats. Plus, I do believe she’s lost weight. Meghan is new to this type of media attention and public scrutiny, but I think she’s going to pull it together gradually. For now, she’s wearing combinations of old and new, and most of her outfits have hit the right mark for stylish yet practical.

      • KiddV says:

@Honey – I was thinking the shoes elevated the outfit. The color of the shoes with that color of skirt is perfect. If you click on the Jimmy Choo link above that LAK posted, it’s a better photo and the colors are gorgeous together. Any other color of shoe and the outfit would have been boring.

      • KiddV says:

It was @inthekitchen who posted the Jimmy Choo link. Sorry about that, inthekitchen!

      • Honey says:

        @Olenna & Kidd

I love the color combination but I feel like the tulip skirt is too long, the sweater too short, and the purse just kind of sits there. Same color scheme but different pieces, you know? The pieces aren’t flowing together for me. It’s like they are neither here nor there. The shoes alone deserve a different type of skirt. Perhaps a slightly shorter skirt, a more fitted skirt . . . something different but that would have allowed her to be just as subtle in her “bam, b*tch, did you see my shoes?” Does any of that make sense? I feel like I get what she was going for but I feel like it’s somehow disconnected.

The coat problem . . . I was looking at her proportions. Even though she’s “ little”, she has boxy rectangular hips. Plus, she has no real curve from waist to hips. She also has a short waist. I said all of that to say this: buying clothes off the rack and having them fit “ok” is probably problematic for her. Three-quarter coats and coats that stop at the waist probably look much better on her.

So that people won’t think I’m body-shaming, I have big boobs. Trying on coats and buying coats that have those narrow shoulders and f-ing dart pleats just kill me. Not a good look. I also have a short waist so I try to buy things that I can use to subtlety make my waist look longer.

Anyway, anyway. When I zoomed in on the shoes to get a better look at the color I was like d*mn! she could have worn those better.

      • Olenna says:

        @Honey
“bam, b*tch, did you see my shoes?” Dead. LOL! But, yeah, those shoes are fabulous. I get it, though, with the fitting issues. We all have challenges and Meghan would benefit from a personal stylist who could help her dress for her body type. The one she had on Suits dressed her for a professional look that flattered her waist and height, but now she’s on her own. So, we’ll see if she brings someone on staff with a good eye for styling her figure.

      • magnoliarose says:

        @Honey
I love the bam bitch. You have no idea just how much. lol
You make a lot of good points. I am shortish waisted and tall and slender, so my legs are longer which I have to dress to make sure I don’t look like a stork.
Meghan has skinny legs and a boxy short torso. She will have to get everything tailored. Dress separates off the rack will never fit her correctly.

I love the shoe game. It elevates the misses here.

      • KiddV says:

@Honey – “bam, b*tch, did you see my shoes?” Perfect! I love it! I do get what you mean about the skirt. I think I love the shoes so much that I’m blind to the rest. 😀

      • Milla says:

I love the bag. Is there id on it?

The shoes are just pumps… Not my style. Nothing about the outfit, apart from the bag, is interesting. Kate’s clothes are too busy, Markle makes them too clean. One necklace or nice statement earrings would make a whole new look.

She is really tiny, as a tall woman, i find petit ones adorable and more feminine… Is that sexist? No idea, i just like the idea of being tiny and having someone tower over me, in a loving way, like Harry and Meghan.

      • Argonaut says:

@Milla i like petite women too! i’m probably shorter than meghan but i just don’t have that tiny frame, just average. i wish i had dainty wrists and pretty long fingers like she has. if you look at courtney love’s hands she once called them “peasant hands” and mine are the same lol just grubby short fingers good for picking potatoes in the old country. i keep my nails long to help elongate them and pretend they’re lovely. could always be worse, my friend has hands just like cee-lo, look those up! 😨

      • PrincessK says:

@Argonaut…”grubby short fingers good for picking potatoes”…..Oh dear 😂…don’t be so hard on yourself.

      • milla says:

        Argo

Please don’t be so hard on yourself. I am sure you have normal hands and btw, who cares? We are taught to analyse ourselves like we are freaking dolls in a factory. But little imperfections are always cute. Like my baby feet. Size 10 and they were always the fattest part of me 😂😂😂😂

      • Liberty says:

Oh Argonaut… short fingers good for picking big fat jewels! 😉

      • Veronica says:

I, too, am long legged and short waisted. I have to be really careful what clothes I wear, even when I was much younger and skinnier. I actually look terrible in most clothes. I can wear dropped waists, jackets that come down past the hips, not much else actually! Anything loose and flowing looks thick on me. It isn’t an easy body to dress.
I know Kate seems to hate her long torso and shorter legs, but she has a much easier body to dress in clothes. Many clothes that look great on her, would make Meghan look stubby, even though she is thin. And yes, would make me look stubby, too. But I don’t have access to a stylist.

      • RoyalSparkle says:

        +100

This is a bit more nicer. Thank you Princess Henry I/w – than black and pants. Maybe she is going along with causals (before Ireland), until she becomes HRH to start dressing with less black and more regal (never mind w middleton).

    • Nicole says:

I love those shoes. Actually I was thinking yesterday with Kate’s outfit that the shoes she wore were more Meghan’s style.
Anyways I love everything but the coat which swallows her.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

They do. And I love her bag, too.

    • Whaaaaaaatttt? says:

Yikes – except those shoes make it look like she is coordinating with the Irish flag – does she know they are in Northern Ireland and not Republic of Ireland?

      • PrincessK says:

Yes, some people are commenting on that. I am beginning to wonder if somebody slipped up…..

      • Tabbygal says:

@whaaaaaaatttt, there are plenty of people in Northern Ireland who strongly identify with the Irish tricolour flag.

      • whatever says:

        @Tabbygal

There are plenty of people who strongly identify with being British as well, therein lies the problem. It’s such as a complicated and controversial political issue she needs to stay well away from it.

What she could have done is add elements of blue, red and yellow into her outfit then she could have paid homage to the Irish flag, the British flag and the Northern Irish flag at the same time and kept everyone happy. But I don’t think the Fashion Police would have been happy with that eyesore lol :).

      • Tina says:

She should have steered well clear of all of it, worn purple or something. This is Jessica Mulroney’s doing, I’m convinced of it (but she doesn’t have the brains to do this, either her husband or her father-in-law probably told her to do it).

      • Olenna says:

I really don’t think the color of the shoes was an issue for the people of NI. They’ve been described as bronze velvet by retailers and fashion sites. But, if people want to complain, it doesn’t change the fact that she received a warm welcome from the Belfast citizens. BTW, her father is of Irish-Dutch descent, so across the island I imagine there was more thought given to her heritage than what she wore on her feet.

      • Tina says:

@Olenna, I love Meghan too, but this was a misstep. Her clothing in Scotland and Wales was targeted, and this was as well. It’s not a big deal, not now, but people (not here) saying that this signals her “support for a united Ireland” need to chill out. NI is sensitive now. Brexit is a huge issue. The royals really need to not be political.

      • Olenna says:

@Tina, I visited both NI and ROI last year and got a fairly decent understanding of how Brexit will impact commerce, people’s livelihoods, basic travel and tourism, so I’m not trying to negate nor diminish the issues with talk of heritage or the fabric color wheel. I guess my problem here with the flag discussion is trying to comprehend how the perceived color of her shoes could generate enough discord that they could become an element of protest for or against Irish unity or be elevated to a diplomatic faux pas of major consequence. Nevertheless, I do believe you when you say tensions are high, but I hope rational minds will prevail.

      • Tina says:

@Olenna, as I said, this on its own is not a big deal and no one will be taking it for a major faux pas. But it’s not the kind of thing that the royals can get away with, long term, so she really can’t repeat it, if indeed it was a political message and not an accident. It’s not the outfit itself that’s really the issue, it’s that the royals, in particular, can’t go anywhere near these issues.

    • PrincessK says:

      Yes, the shoes look great.

    • librakitty says:

Actually, going smaller in size is not that simple. I can get something in XS but, because of my frame, it can still appear too large.

  2. Alissa says:

I have small shoulders and am petite. sometimes there IS no smaller size, especially in women’s clothing. a 0 or XS might be perfect for some clothes, but a hair too big for others.

    • Startup Spouse says:

+1 I have a similar frame. I recently bought a coat in a girls size 12 because the same model in XS women’s didn’t fit. It was cheaper and fits like a glove. It’s a little embarrassing though because I’m almost 40!

      • Alissa says:

I’m almost thirty and I regularly shop at American Eagle because juniors tends to fit me much better than adult, which is embarrassing. I just ordered a romper that fit great everywhere but was two inches too long in the shoulders because they weren’t adjustable straps. 😣

      • FLORC says:

I still shop ae and I’m early 30s. I have clothes in the mail from them due next week. No one makes a better fitting jean in the variety of sizes for the price. And their stuff is cute with variety for ages.

      • minx says:

My daughter is 5′ 11″ and slender, and AE has the extra long jeans that fit her. And they have great online sales.

      • Carol says:

As the others are saying, AE is the best!!! They have jeans in every cut, colour, and style, and they are ALWAYS on sale. And the fit is consistent so I know my size and order online without any problem. AND the jeans come in short, regular, and tall which is helpful to a lot of people I should think – I always get size 0 short.

And the sweaters are decent and overall the clothes are easy to wear for a variey of people. And I have seen them use non gender specific models sometimes.

AND their Aerie bras are good, reasonably priceed, and they don’t photoshop the ads…and they use women of all shapes and sizes.

One of the rare times I am actually reasonably impressed with a clothing company.

      • minx says:

Carol, yes, the Aerie bras are wonderful and the models are indeed normal!

      • MeghanNotMarkle says:

I still wear the black pea coat I got when I was 16 and I’m 34 now. It’s a junior size. Women’s sizes are all off just enough to require tailoring and that coat was less than the cost of having a new one taken in. I also shop AE for jeans because they fit better than any other brand.

      • magnoliarose says:

Jeans are the bane of my existence because my size and length are unusual so when I find some brands, I stick with them.

      • Shotcaller says:

I can only wear Gap or Seven. Tall with a small waist but alas, no hips. If the jeans don’t have some stretch they just won’t hang properly.

    • Masamf says:

Alissa, mine are almost similar your troubles, but Im not small boned. Im African so my bottom part is large compared to my upper part and I can never find fitting clothes. If the skirt fits my bum, the waist is too big, a dress that fits my top part won’t go past my hips, its hard to find anything my size. My daugherty is very small and even a size 0 in some clothes is a tad big on her, I think Meghan has the same problem.
I think Meghan o=looks really good in this outfit, the coat fits IMO. She looks AMAZING.

      • Junebug says:

I had this problem (before I had children!) And I used to buy skirts and trousers that fit my bum and then get the waist taken in at the tailor. It added to the cost but it was worth it. Now, I’m just big all over and nothing fits me anyway so problem solved, after a fashion.

      • Masamf says:

Junebug, that what I do with my skirts and pants, and I try to avoid any pencil skirts if I can.
Anyways, Megs looks fabulous to me, I really love this outfit.

      • Shotcaller says:

        Ah. Battle of the bubble…

    • Erinn says:

Someone with her means could hire a tailor, though.

    • Rhys says:

Actually, slightly oversized looking coats, jackets and sweaters are coming back. A bit of 80s vibe is in the air, which I love. So it’s all good.

      • Tallyhoo says:

Yes, it seems like a general fashion trend to me, and has actually made me feel like all my fitted coats/jackets are a bit dated looking. Not enough to make me stop wearing them, but enough so they don’t feel particularly on trend or up to date.

      • @Tallyhoo i think it is a fashion trend according to my 18yr old niece.

      • Liberty says:

I was just about to write this. My industry friends are ordering their coats in larger sizes to be more sweeping, relaxed, soft. A couple like the sense of cocooning, in a more unstructured way. They have other fitted coats tailored to their frames. Like them I have a couple of relaxed coats made by Central Saint Martins students that are loose and soft. Then, a few tailored coats, exacting in fit. Different end uses. I have a bit of a coat obsession, though, so I can usually find a use for any fit, sadly! 🙂

Meghan’s coat and entire look works very well to my eyes. Just my opinion. I want those shoes, and continue to love her handbag game.

But my favorite accessory today is the loving look she is giving him in the header image,

      • RoyalSparkle says:

        +1

I agree, but throw out the sweater. There are much more regal looking wear than VB.

    • Carol says:

Yep – I’m 5 foot 2 inches and petite. Sometimes I size out of the store (ie xs is still a size too big which baffles me because I don’t consider myself sickly or unusually thin….its the combo of being short AND ‘healthily thin’ that makes it harder to buy clothes sometimes.

I needed a fall coat last fall and it took forever to find one that fit – even the xs ones were a size too big (and longer than they were meant to be!) – finally I found one that ran small and bought it, but …. I dont always have much choices with coats. Mine is black with a ‘statement’ lapel too, like Megs. I agree that it looks a bit ‘much’ on my small frame but I love it anyway!!! Besides, the jacket actually fits so I’m happy with it.

      • StartupSpouse says:

Carol, Try looking at girls size 12 and 14. I’m 5’1″ and about 100lbs. Those fit much better than the XS and they are cheaper, too!

    • Lilly says:

I thought the same and it still looks fantastic on her. I love the entire outfit.

    • Carrie1 says:

Her shoulders are past the seam in this coat, this is as small as she could go with off the rack sizing. The coat has lots of fabric, and I think that’s the problem here. She has broad shoulders. The coat barely fits there. Weird coat. Anyway, I like her outfit just fine. It’s interesting and attractive.

  3. OriginalLala says:

i love velvet shoes, when i was a kid they were the epitome of glamour to me.

    • hope says:

Velvet is so on trend right now! I have a few new velvet ysl pairs and they’re my “bam, bitch, look at my shoes” moments.. like the poster above said. Haha, love it!

  4. Alexandria says:

I’m more petite than her and I really dislike wide lapels. Don’t think she’s pulling it off but the colour, the bag and the rest of her outfit are great to me. I wonder if she would have a shorter haircut like Letizia after her wedding.

    • Megan S says:

I think you are correct on the lapels. The pics around the shoulders show that the coat itself fits well, it is the silhouette that isn’t doing her any favors and looking bigger than it should.
Agree with the ‘it’s ok’ assessment, it isn’t making me want to run out and purchase any of those pieces, but it does look nice and professional.
I do love the bag and shoes, but now that it is officially spring, I refuse to wear anything not obnoxiously bright and springy.

      • Alexandria says:

My personal opinion is petite people like me cannot handle big details on clothes. I would tend to look overwhelmed and even smaller. I prefer clean lines. If I am a glamazon model, yeah I’ll go for them. I wish I had height! At least Meghan is taller than me lol.

    • NameChange says:

I agree. The coat actually fits perfectly (look at the shoulders). It’s the giant lapels that are throwing everything off.

      • Masamf says:

Its her wearing the coat open that’s making it look big, I think this particular coat is mean to be “tied” if I can use for lack of a better word. But again, I think she had all these coats with a bathrobe tie and she is not hearing the end of us all criticizing her about the bathrobe coats, so now she be like “oh dear how do I do this without setting off the barrage of criticism?” so she leaves it open. But, we still criticizing her for leaving it open. I think at this point she either throws out her old stuff out (because it looks like every Canadian bathrobe coat was pre-owned before Harry) or she just stuffs her ears and just roll with the punches.

  5. monette says:

I would wear the s***t out of this ouftfit.
    It looks very professional.
The shoes and purse are my kind of p0rn.

    • Zapp Brannigan says:

I might back to borrow it from you, I love this whole look.

    • inthekitchen says:

@monette — Haha – I love the way you put that! I agree that she looks amazing (except the slightly too messy hair, IMO). But, those shoes…love (and I don’t even ever wear heels!), and that handbag…want it, NEED IT.

She looks great today. Very professional and wearing color too. I love the mixing of the teal(?) skirt and the rich brown shoes/bag. Hopefully now that it’s officially spring she will put away so many blacks/navys and break out more color.

It does worry me that they had to do this without announcing it in advance. I wonder if they’ve had a specific threat from the region or it’s just a precaution? Scary…

      • LAK says:

Northern Ireland has always been a security nightmare for any British politician or royal. Always. They can’t just drop in. And it’s always treated as DEFCON 1 regardless of any specific threat.

It’s also rare that details of their visits are announced even if everyone knows that they are expecting a visit. Often it’s a media blackout until they are there or have left the country.

      • Kristen says:

@LAK thank you for using the correct DEFCON!

      • dodgy says:

Northern Ireland has always been sensitive. And now with DUP and Brexit, and the Tories’ wanton disregard of the Good Friday Act, it’s going to be a powder keg.

    • MellyMel says:

Agreed! I love this outfit, especially the shoes!

    • Sequinedheart says:

I love her style. I love that she has always had this taste, it’s not a Royal-Remodel. The coat, she has owned since living in Canada. There was a pap’d pic of her in December of 2016 after the news broke they were together and she’s wearing it. GF is her own stylist and I am here for it!

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

I agree with everything you said!

    • TaniaOG says:

I agree completely. I think she is 100% on point. She looks amazing.

  6. Whatever says:

All those resources at her fingertips and her hair still looks like she just rolled out of bed and put it in a quick bun. She needs to invest in some hair clips and extra hold hair spray.

    • Alexandria says:

I have really messy hair. Messier than hers (in this pic). I’ll take that hair spray if I have to be a public figure.

      • homeslice says:

I don’t know, I think the slightly messy look works for her for these events. More important ones I believe she will be more “coiffed”.

I love her no nonsense fashion. Nothing fussy or too darling. I love the skirt, shoes and bag!!!

      • PrincessK says:

Too much grooming and lacquering to make her hair stiff and formal could weaken her hair. Kate seems to have very thick hair and can probably take a lot of pulling about, and we know that a great deal of time is spent on her hair every time she goes out. When her hair is not ‘done’ it looks very different. Meghan’s hair looks weak she needs to take care of it and I think she is probably glad that her hair can have rest days unlike when she was in Suits and it had to look 100% every time.

    • Masamf says:

Some people don’t like chemicals on their hair! I know we gripe quite a bit about Meghan’s and/or Kate’s hair this and that but we really don’t know what chemicals their hair texture does/doesn’t agree with. My daughter decided to go natural and just wear wigs because chemicals make her hair break. At one point a certain spy made all her fair fall out and she had to shave and regrow it; not everyone’s hair agrees with hold sprays etc etc. And sometimes clips don’t do as good a job as people think, unless of course one uses tons of them to hold the hair in place. Personally I think Meghan hair looks fine as long as its not in her face or eyes.

      • OriginalLala says:

i like messy buns, it’s hard to pull off chic updos that aren’t overly fancy or matronly. She’s young, we wear messy buns, it’s NBD

      • Alexandria says:

Masamf you’re right. I don’t use hair spray or gel either, I just attempt to condition during shower. The flyaways are lesser but still there for me. If I had to become a public figure I’d really need help. Maybe just pins I guess lol.

      • Whatever says:

Flyaways and frizziness have been the bane of my life but in the event that I need to look presentable/professional I do something about it. Even if the results only last a split-second after the need of looking presentable ends lol.

Her up-do’s for some of the events she attended in her acting career looked nice and sleek, there is no reason why she cannot replicate that sleekness if she has already done it before. She really has no excuses for looking like she spent about 5 seconds on her hair do.

      • Lela says:

I agree with this. I am eastern European and have very fine blonde hair and can’t, NO MATTER WHAT I DO, make my hair look “neat and proper.” Up, down, braided it always has a “messy” look to it for some reason. My hair is so delicate I just can’t use products. My daughter has the same hair like MM (she’s mixed as my husband is hispanic/black) and I have the same issues with her hair, it never looks “neat.” She’s also only 4 so I don’t want to use any products, I use a bit of coconut oil to smooth out tangles and that’s it.

      • Maria says:

I put a tiny amount of coconut oil on my hair. Does wonders.

      • LAK says:

I like the pop of messy hairbun. She’s presenting as a casually smart professional woman rather than a perfectly lacquered dolly ornament at a cocktail party.

Especially for this event which isn’t quite official royal visit and more charitable visit.

She matches Harry’s casual clothing perfectly.

      • Masamf says:

@Whatever, could it be that the “updo” were for indoor events as opposed to walk about? Could it be that she actually tried some products at that time and realized she didn’t like them on her hair or maybe her hair texture didn’t agree with said products and she therefore decided to use them less often? Could it be that she just likes to wear her buns messy? I myself see no issue as long as she has the hair off of her face. My only gripe would be when she constantly tucks her hair behind her ears.

      • Shotcaller says:

Maybe it’s the humidity or a recent shower but for the first time I can see that her hair isn’t stick straight. Still have my fingers crossed that we’ll see some curls one day. Maybe during a pregnancy (assuming she relaxes) when chemicals are a no-no? Either way every single outing confirms – stunning woman.

      • PamelaRose says:

@Shotcaller. This obsession with seeing her curls or “natural hair” is so weird to me. People don’t look at women who color their hair and constantly encourage them to wear their hair “natural”. Why? Because its just a hairstyle! Megan likes her hair straight, just like other women like their hair blond or red.

Obsession? This is the first I’ve commented on her curls but OK. This is a gossip blog where we discuss celebrities, their hair, make up, fashion choices etc. It’s pretty lighthearted, imo. No one has pitchforks out for Meghan’s hair. I love her hair regardless and it always looks so sleek and shiny but I’m also a fan of wavy hair. I think Kate Middleton, Taylor Swift and Gwyneth Paltrow would all look beautiful with their original wavy hair. Oh, and I totally prefer Emma Stone’s original hair color LOL.

      • magnoliarose says:

I have thick hair that needs products to be sleek, and I don’t like to weigh my hair down with them, so I love a messy bun.
Some of my kids have curls, so one of my daughters has hair that if I put it in a bun or ponytail, her edge hair slowly slips out, her curls spring free, and she looks like a baby lion. I don’t put much product in my children’s hair, so I let it be.

      • PamelaRose says:

@Shotcaller. I didn’t say YOUR obsession. Just Obsession. It’s a comment that is generated on this blog every single time she makes an outing. The only reason people make comments about her “natural hair state” is because they know she is bi-racial. Not because she has PUBLICY previously worn her hair that way and now people are saying ” I want her to rock her curls again”. So yes, its a weird, race based comment to make.

      • PrincessK says:

@PamelaRose….black women have always had a hard time with hair issues. There was a time when black women believed that their natural hair was bad. Then came the “I’m Black I’m Proud” era and Angela Davis and the Afro. Then someone came along with Jerri curls products and relaxers, and after years of using them they turned out to be very bad for the hair and so many women are now forced to wear wigs because of irreparable hair damage. Thankfully a new natural hair movement has arrived, which in my opinion is great. Now Meghan Markle can do what she likes but I am sure she understands all this and her mother looks like a ‘natural woman’ type.

So ….”People don’t look at women who color their hair and constantly encourage them to wear their hair “natural”. Why? Because its just a hairstyle!”….no, PamelaRose black hair issues is much more than a hairstyle, there is a lot more going on. For me saving your hair from damage is the most important thing rather than just feeling you must be picture perfect all the time. Going ‘natural’ is wonderful and very liberating.

      • PamelaRose says:

@PrincessK. Yes to everything you said. I fully get that. But Megan Markle doesn’t represent you or I or any other black woman out there. Somebody telling her to stop straightening her hair and embrace her African American heritage is just as problematic as someone telling her to straighten her hair to fit acceptable/white beauty standards.

      • Masamf says:

@PrincessK and @Shotcaller, I’m sure @PamelaRose meant no malice in her comment. But the “I want to se her natural curls” has been posted on here quite often, and Im sure that’s what she meant by people that color hair don’t get encouraged to stop. I’m 57 and gray, I don’t color my gray because I’m allergic to any dye or relaxer chemicals, like my face swells up and eyes swell shut and scalp itches like its on fire, so I wear my hair gray and natural. But other people in my family color their hair and Im sure they wouldn’t appreciate any comments about how they should treat their hair, colored and relaxed as opposed to natural and gray; different strokes for different folks. I guess my point is, Meghan mom likes her hair natural (as many others are doing so now) but Meghan likes her’s the way it is, she doesn’t want her natural curls or going natural in any way, and that too is/should be okay.

      • Shotcaller says:

        PamelaRose
You’re projecting. Neither I nor PrincessK said anything about Meghan and her cultural identity. Princess, amidst larger meta observations, was touching on the damaging effects of long-term straightening and I simply think wavy hair is pretty. I’m not invalidating your points but you should settle on the right target before you pull the trigger. Poor Meghan is not nor should be be the rep for woc but all of us, including woc, are free to give opinions about her style game.

      • Scram says:

@pamelarose I’ve noticed the same thing around a number of blogs and found it interesting. I love curls and get giddy when I see them, but it’s not like Meghan has ever worn her hair like that as a public figure so while I’d be curious I don’t feel much use in hoping for it as I might for women like Taylor Swift, Nicole Kidman, Lorde, Julia Roberts, Emmy Rossum, Mariah Carey, or Keri Russell because they were all introduced to us with curly hair. Even with most of them I don’t bother because it’s been decades and they obviously don’t care for it.

    • ScottieIsBack says:

Do women still use holding spray? I always associate it with little old ladies. Younger women don’t use it, imo.

    • sa says:

I love the her hair here, but I tend to not care for hair that’s too perfect, which is just a personal preference.

But also, I don’t know what her situation is, but maybe she can’t wear hair products. For instance, I cannot wear any product in my hair because it will give me a migraine. Every so often I will try some new product, but invariably I always have to wash it out within an hour and I lose a day from the headache.

Same thing if I wear my hair too tight, it won’t give me a migraine, but will give me a headache.

So I’m always weary of saying what others should do with their hair, because I don’t know their situation of any potential issues they may have.

    • Argonaut says:

isn’t she on the record as saying she likes to leave one thing “undone” with her look? i see sleek polished clothing, bag, and makeup. the hair is the “undone” part. i like that fashion rule too and i think she pulls it off here. it’s clearky not bed head and has been styled.

    • Egla says:

It might sound strange but I think her hair are like that on purpose. If you look at her you might notice some little things: the extra rings on her fingers, the slightly messy hair in a bun but still half professional, the loose coats that hug her but not really tight around her body, the pants she wears and their length. Trust me, she is being fashionable without being in your face as to speak. I know about the hair because almost all the fashionable girls I know do that bun. It takes time and effort and she has pins there to hold it, a closer look can tell you that someone has worked there. Look at the top of her head. No flat hair there as it should be if the bun was made in a hurry by herself. I can’t do that for the life of me.

  7. LizLemonGotMarried (aka The Hufflepuff Liz Lemon) says:

Her bone structure is incredibly delicate. The ankles remind me of Jolie. The shoes are beautiful and the whole outfit is class.

    • inthekitchen says:

Me too, Hufflepuff Liz! I think her whole body type is just like AJ’s. Boxy torso and very thin legs and arms. They both even have a square jawline!

I agree that she looks beautiful. I love the pic where she’s gazing adoringly at Harry! It’s usually him gazing at her that way, with stars in his eyes, so nice to see it on both sides 🙂

    • Anners says:

Ya, she’s really tiny. She reminds me of my grandmother (5’1 at her tallest and maybe 90 lbs). I was always jealous I didn’t inherit that physique as it always seemed so ladylike and dainty to me.

    • Lexter says:

She does have such gorgeous delicate ankles – the most delicate I’ve ever seen!

    • magnoliarose says:

That is exactly what her body is like. Thin limbs.

  8. Beluga says:

I’m not usually a shoe person, but damn, those shoes…

    • inthekitchen says:

RIGHT?! I’m a shoe person but not a heels person…but those shoes are everything. I just want to rub them on my cheeks.

    • Astrid says:

After seeing these pictures and loving the shoes, I’m ready to defrost my credit card and buy a pair. They are so sexy!

    • Qzie says:

I love them–but I don’t understand the color with the skirt. Christmas-ish? If the skirt had been any other color really…I’m surprised it is just me. They read dark red velvet on my screen, the skirt is solidly green.

  9. Lainey says:

The coat is one she wore to the invictus games closing ceremony. It kinda looks like she’s lost some weight so it may be a little big now. And the jumper is the one from the engagement pics.
No visit to games of thrones but the titanic museum happening later. And they’re meeting young people involved in peace initiatives which I love.
Anyone else notice her colours are that of the Irish flag? 🇮🇪🇮🇪

    • Rapunzel says:

She is indeed matching the flag. First thing I noticed. Did Katie Keen give her some theme dressing tips?

Love the outfit but that hair… It’s so “busy soccer mom “instead of “future royal.”

    • Skylark says:

Hmmm no. There’s no burgundy in the Irish flag. Green and white, yes, burgundy no,

She looks lovely. Harry could really do with a style makeover though.

      • Toot says:

Her shoes are supposedly burnt orange.

      • whitepolkadot says:

Her shoes are orange though, not burgundy.
So I guess Lainey is right and Meghan wanted to do a little theme dressing.

      • Skylark says:

Actually you’re right. Just had a look through the pics and In one of them, they definitely have an orange hue. In that case, nice touch! (sorry @Lainey!)

    • Jane says:

Yeah… not great. Northern Ireland is not the Republic of Ireland, and while ROI has given up their claim to NI, it’s still not great.

I wish the shoes were green like the skirt, because I love the outfit and she looks lovely.

      • BaBaDook says:

Actually, ROI didn’t “give up their claim” to N.I. – it’s still a seriously dividing issue both in ROI and NI. People in NI are free to consider themselves citizens of both ROI and the UK.

In terms of giving up a claim, it was something that ROI were pressured into back at the formation of the state as it was the only way to get a majority of the island back from British rule. It’s not as clear cut as giving up a claim.

      • Jane says:

Well, if the 1999 amendment of constitution doesn’t stand, then it’s even worse, and either way Harry (+ various advisers) should have steered her clear of this political faux pas

      • Tina says:

@Jane, read the Good Friday agreement. It makes all of this clear.

      • LAK says:

        What Tina Said.

Good Friday agreement….the 2 acknowledged points within the agreement that are given equal weight and legitimately binding on both govts of Britain and Ireland.

        1. that the majority of the people of Northern Ireland wished to remain a part of the United Kingdom;

        2. that a substantial section of the people of Northern Ireland, and the majority of the people of the island of Ireland, wished to bring about a united Ireland.

The next 2 very important points to which both govts are legally bound

        1. Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom, and would remain so until a majority of the people both of Northern Ireland and of the Republic of Ireland wished otherwise. Should that happen, then the British and Irish governments are under “a binding obligation” to implement that choice.

        2. Irrespective of Northern Ireland’s constitutional status within the United Kingdom, or part of a united Ireland, the right of “the people of Northern Ireland” to “identify themselves and be accepted as Irish or British, or both” (as well as their right to hold either or both British and/or Irish citizenship) is recognised.

    • PiMo says:

She is wearing the colours of the Irish flag in Northern Ireland! Especially after how sensitive things have gotten due to Brexit negotiations. Nobody told her that Northern Ireland is not Ireland? And people love to point out her international studies degree and how smart she is.

      • BaBaDook says:

I mean, it’s not “not Ireland”. Technically it’s still part of Ireland, while being in the UK. But yeah, I dunno if this was the wisest move on her part given political tensions.

That said, as a biased Republic of Irelander, I love the potential implications 😂

      • Masamf says:

@PiMo, Meghan HAS an international degree and she IS smart. Just because she is wearing Ireland flag colors in NI doesn’t negate any of the above. And the colors really depend on how each individual interpreted them, I didn’t even associate them to any flags till Lainey suggested it, and I know Im not alone. I men her outfit has 5 colors, not just 3 that some choose to point out! And I know that not associating colors to ROI doesn’t mean I’m daft!!

      • whatever says:

I didn’t even notice that she was paying homage to Ireland’s flag until Lainey pointed it out, but she definitely is with the white/cream, green and burnt orange (to substitute for normal orange) even if she is wearing other colours as well. Probably not the best move considering how sensitive national identity is in Northern Ireland.

      • Whaaaaaaatttt? says:

considering she wore Scottish plaid in Scotland, that was the first thing i looked for – her wearing something that meant “irish”

      • Veronica says:

Another brilliant move by the royals.
        She needs smarter advisors.

      • Tina says:

I 100% blame Jessica Mulroney (or, more likely, Ben or Brian) for this. Meghan doesn’t have time to pay attention to the nuances and she needs British advisors.

  10. Jenni says:

The shoes are beautiful but most of the shoes she’s work always look too big. Or is it my eyes?

    • inthekitchen says:

I noticed it too but figured she just has long but very thin feet so there is some extra space in them. They never flip/slip off or anything so they must fit properly, but maybe she just doesn’t have much “flesh” to fill them out? I don’t know. Or maybe they’re just more comfortable for her to have a tad of extra room. I also saw someone else speculating that maybe one foot is slightly bigger than the other so, especially on the smaller foot, the shoe looks too big.

    • Loopy says:

I hear celebrities, public figures always wear one size bigger because of the amount of time they spend standing and walking around.

    • Peg says:

It appears as Megham heels are narrow, so shoes appear loose at the back.
She can buy a narrow shoe, but if her foot is wide at the front, it will be very uncomfortable.
They sell pads, you can stick in back of your shoes, to keep your foot from sliding around.

  11. Loopy says:

She has dropped some weight, must be all the pressure of her new life.

  12. Becks says:

I love the shoes with the outfit. By themselves they are pretty – a nice red velvet pump – but I love them paired with the green skirt and she pulls them in with the red bag.*

Her coats are always too big but my guess is that she has not invested in new coats yet, so her coats are all from Toronto, so she wore them probably with heavier sweaters underneath, so the size wasn’t as obvious. I think once she figures out that for engagements she is usually only outside for a short period, she’ll go with thinner coats (that wont look as bulky.)

*I don’t like getting drawn in overly much to the Kate vs Meghan narrative (although of course I do at times), but Meghan’s outfit today is a perfect example of something we have been shouting for Kate to wear for ages now. Simple pieces, an eye catching shoe, classic but not dated or frumpy looking.

ETA just realized the shoes are burnt orange and the bag is more of an orangey-brown. My original point still stands, I just didn’t want to be accused of getting the colors wrong, lol.

  13. JAGirl says:

She looks lovely in lighter colors.

Love the shoes and as for the coat being too big I think she may have lost weight since the engagement announcement.

Wish she would try harder with the hair but overall it’s a smart look.

  14. BendyWindy says:

I think the coats are fine. They’re meant to be oversized. In the photo of her back, the shoulders look perfectly fitted, which means the bagginess in the collars and body are purposeful.

    I love her shoes.

    • Bea says:

My thoughts exactly. I could understand the criticism of her coats if she’s wearing them indoors as part of her outfit, but she not. It’s okay that her coats are not form fitting to allow for bulkier winter clothes underneath.

  15. Becks says:

Also, has Harry literally worn the exact same outfit to every outing so far? He’s always in those dark pants, navy/royal blue sweater, blazer, and those blue suede shoes. It’s like his uniform!

  16. L84Tea says:

I really am liking the style she’s got with all the neutrals and separates, but why on earth does she keep wearing clothes/sizes that just swallow her up? She’s so tiny and thin-boned that most times she looks like she’s walking around in a big fluff of materials. I’d love to see her wear slightly smaller.

  17. Tina says:

Northern Ireland is also sensitive right now because of Brexit (border, customs union etc etc). Theresa May went there in February but it was also announced the same day.

    • BearcatLawyer says:

Very true. My friends in NI are very worried about their economy collapsing due to Brexit. Peace can be a fragile thing when people are out of work and struggling to survive.

  18. guest says:

She’s lost a lot of weight. Hopefully she gains it back after the wedding because her body looked great before. I also think that clothes she had before are now baggy on her.

    • inthekitchen says:

Agreed. I hope it’s just stress and not intentional. Meghan (and Kate) looked perfectly fine/fit/healthy/thin/etc. before, IMO. No need to drop weight just to be a royal!!

      • Bea says:

I think it’s stress. It hasn’t been a full 6 months and she has relocated to new country, adjusting to a new life that is far from normal while all eyes are on her. It has to be super stressful. Despite the weight loss, she still looks great given all the changes she’s going through to prepare for her new role and life.

  19. Lucy says:

The whole outfit looks just like something Rachel Zane (her Suits character) would wear. That is a compliment!!

    • jetlagged says:

After the first season, I mostly watched Suits just for the clothes. I wasn’t paying the slightest attention to the plot (what there was of it). The clothes rocked – especially what Gina Torres would wear – but I don’t know any paralegals or legal secretaries that dress as well as Rachel and Donna. They couldn’t afford to.

      • PrincessK says:

Lol! I had never heard of Suits before Meghan started dating Harry but my daughters’ had been watching Suits for a long time and told me they watched it because the women’s outfits just got better and better.

      • Nic919 says:

Lawyers could not afford to dress the way they did on Suits unless they were several years out. And even then it would be difficult.

  20. Ladiabla says:

I love this outfit, love ❤️ I need that bag too, it’s a smidge bigger than the ones she normally carries, and I want it! My only quibble is that she forgot her earrings. They don’t need to be big, but she needs a little something.

  21. Ollie says:

I love the colours but that outfit screams Secretary. The skirt lenght and the messy bun are very office worker.

Harry and his only pair of shoes…

  22. Claudia Remm says:

I like the way they look at each other, like after a short while he says “… erhm where was I?”

    Meghan is very extraordinary pretty.

    • Truthie says:

This! The way that he looks at her in the first picture, then the way that she looks at Harry in the second and fourth picture is quite extraordinary. The BRF has not seen heat like this in decades I daresay.

      • PrincessK says:

Yes, normally measured palace courtiers have said that Harry is “deeply and madly in love”.

  23. minx says:

Outfit, shoes, a win, although the lapels are too wide for her tiny fame.

  24. Catherine says:

She is so lovely. I am a huge fan of the messy bun and separates. She looks relaxed but so polished and pretty!

  25. Cher says:

I like the outfit. The coat looks big because of the cut of the collar. The matronly hair is not working for me, it is reminiscent of Kate’s hair is the hairnet😳.

  26. Salanta3 says:

She’s always reminded me so much of Minnie Mouse… Even more so now in those gorgeous colored shoes!

  27. Seraphina says:

Love this outfit. She knocks it out of the ballpark. Everything is appropriate and her style is relatable. She is working and I would wear it too to work if I had her figure. Bravo MM, well done 👍🏽

  28. Peg says:

    @ Kaiser
The the wedding invitations are being sent out.

    • minx says:

      Ooo!

    • inthekitchen says:

Official wedding souvenir china has also just been released from the Royal Collection Trust. Quite pretty in a cornflower blue with their two monograms.

It’s all so exciting and feels real now (not that it hasn’t been real since the day they announced the engagement, but you know…)

    • notasugarhere says:

Plus news of a second reception at Frogmore House for 200 guests, after the wedding lunch at Windsor Castle. I wonder if they’ll get Frogmore House as their country pile.

      • PrincessK says:

That would be wonderful, but is it a real possibility?

      • notasugarhere says:

Talk was always that Frogmore was reserved for Phillip if HM passed away before him, but now he’s settled at Wood Farm Sandringham. I cannot see him moving from there to Frogmore if HM pre-deceases him. I don’t know if that leaves Frogmore open for H+M or not.

It is an oddly-handled property. It seems to be left (like Windsor Castle itself and Garden House at Windsor) for the royals to do with as they want. Does that mean they would have to pre-pay a massive rent like Andrew at Royal Lodge, or would it just be theirs to live in for X amount of time? I really don’t know.

      • Tina says:

It’s owned by the Crown Estate (unlike Anmer, which was owned privately). It hasn’t been renovated since 1990, so it would cost an absolute fortune to do up for anyone to live in. It would be much cheaper for the Queen to buy them a place in Norfolk or somewhere further out.

      • notasugarhere says:

I don’t think they can get away with a purchased private estate like Anne or Andrew (originally). The idea that taxpayer funds would be used to secure it wouldn’t go over well. Anne gets away with it because a lot of people forget it, like Zara and Peter get away with living there free and benefiting from the taxpayer-funded security. I’d be very surprised if they ended up in a private home.

Andrew paid to fix up Royal Lodge and pre-paid a lease, ditto Edward on Bagshot. Frogmore isn’t treated like other Crown Estate properties. It is allowed to sit there idle but the royals can use it whenever they want. That puts it in mystery territory. Would they (HM, Charles, Harry) use “private funds” to fix it up and pre-pay a massive lease? That would be following what Andrew and Edward did.

    • magnoliarose says:

      Yay!!!
I love to look at people’s choices and be judgy and critical. lol

  29. Keepitreal says:

Another bathrobe coat and messy bun. I must be due for my annual eye exam, because I do not see what other commenters are raving about. How can one be a “fan” of messy buns? The mind boggles. Quick pop over to Belfast to neutralize a quick trip to Corfu. I don’t know why any of them even bother…..we Brits all know they are a bunch of poser ponces. These are safe times to visit Belfast; my cousin did two tours of Ulster at the height of the “troubles”.

    • Peg says:

Maybe there is a meno, reminding Harry, that his great-uncle was blown up, and not to let his guard down.

    • magnoliarose says:

Is your cousin famous and high profile? I am not snarking, but I wonder if that is why you mentioned it.

      • LAK says:

Magnoliarose: they are using slang….translation = their cousin, a soldier in the military, was posted to Ulster twice at the height of British / Irish disagreement. A very dangerous posting at the time. Being posted to NI was on a par with being sent to a warzone. By contrast, Belfast these days is completely safe to visit.

      • magnoliarose says:

Ohhhh ok LAK. It confused me. lol Thank you.

    • PrincessK says:

This trip to Belfast was a success, and Harry and Meghan’s trips around the UK seem to be getting better and better. At one point it poured with rain but they got out the umbrellas and carried on with the walkabout, I could see that Meghan’s coat was soaking wet with raindrops all over it. But in those six? inch heels she carried on like a trooper.

      • PrincessK says:

I have been reflecting on her overall Belfast outfit and I think she really aced it. Meghan has a figure that can draw beautiful lines, probably why, along with her face, that she got a lot of modelling work. Kate has lovely shapely legs but Meghan’s skinny legs provide the angles that designers use for their creations.

Within minutes of her arriving in Belfast this beautiful sketch appeared on Twitter.

        https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DY-qXdqWsAAfdoX.jpg

      • Sage says:

@PrincessK, that is a nice sketch. The outfit color coordination looks great! I’ve seen a few of these types of sketches on Instagram and they capture Meghan’s style well. Notice the hand up near her face? I hope that pose does not become her signature or habit.

  30. bread says:

I’m getting tired of the massive coats with belts. If Kate’s fixation is buttons, then surely Meghan’s is knotted belts. She even wore a dress with a knotted belt at that thing where the four of them were sitting on a stage.

    • Redgrl says:

Ditto. Also don’t like the messy hair. On another site there are about 20+ photos and in about 1/3 of the, she is touching her hair or moving it out of her face. Bobby pins!

      • Do Bobby Pins stop the wind?

      • Carol says:

Messy hair and over sized coats are fashionable right now, and belts define the waist – I think she looks good.

Many women I know have messy buns and big coats – what’s the problem? I’m over having ‘perfect’ polished hair – that’s a silly expectation, and I think a massive coat with a big lapel and a belt looks classic and dramatic and modern. I guess she could have done with a side part for her messy bun to make it look more interesting.

      • Redgrl says:

@formerly – of course not. But she’s always pushing her hair out of her face indoors our outdoors when she wears it like that. You can rock a loose bun hairstyle without it hanging in your face all the time.

  31. Masamf says:

Does prince Harry carry a concealed weapon?

    • Ankhel says:

I’d say so, he’s got the swagger.

… wait, what were we talking about?

    • LAK says:

We don’t do guns in Britain. Even if you are ex-military.

      • Masamf says:

Oh thanks y’all nice folks. I thought that was a pistol (it looked like it to me) tucked into his jumper, but I could be imagining things. In any way, Meghan is a very lucky girl, and harry is a very , very, very lucky man…..

  32. TheOriginalMia says:

She looks good. Those shoes and bag are to die for!

  33. Amelie says:

I really like this outfit. I’m a bit iffy on the velvet shoes but then it’s been a cold and chilly March and really doesn’t feel like spring yet.

Big coats are in right now and is a fashion trend. Remember how Kate was obsessed with wearing peplum all the time when peplum was big a few years ago? Meghan is doing the same with big belted coats. Overall I really like this outfit.

I feel like I’m seeing something completely different whenever people harp on Meghan’s “unprofessional” hair. I think her hair always looks fine. We’ve see Kate’s hair flying around in the wind multiple times and I’ve never heard people complain so much about that. Messy buns are a thing now and they aren’t going away–get over it! Plenty of women my age (twenties, early thirties) wear them to work. Her one or two fly-aways are not going to tarnish the reputation of the Union Jack. I HATE putting product/hairspray in my hair. It makes it greasy and stiff and is all around terrible for my hair. Looking at everyone’s hair in the pictures, everyone’s hair is flying around in the wind. Not sure why we are putting more pressure on Meghan’s hair on being wind-resistant.

    • Whatever says:

Lots of people have complained about Kate’s hair in the past. They still nit-pick now even though her hair is much improved. So if Kate’s hair can be criticised then there is no reason why Meghan’s can’t.

I can’t help but thinking that if Kate turned up to an event with flyaways and a messy bun (however instyle it may be) she would be criticised.

    • Keepitreal says:

Wow! Thanks for that exposition of the staying power of the messy bun. Do excuse if I choose not to “get over it”. Hair is never professional…it is how one handles it. Ms. Markle’s fingers are always in hers. Duchess of Cambridge does the same and both are annoying with that habit. Fiddle with hair, then shakes hands. Quite simple really…give it a good brushing, roll it and pin it up. PS: I think the reputation of the Union Jack is not dependent upon Ms. Markle’s hairdo, so we can rest easy on that one.

      • Amelie says:

You can choose to get bent out of shape over Meghan’s messy bun. And that’s fine. But it isn’t going anywhere, much to your chagrin. It is what many young women wear these days. I prefer this to the pulled back “sleek” look that looks so severe on too many women.

      • Tallyhoo says:

Hah, I think they can be forgiven if they are trying for a slightly less… Victorian look than Princess Anne.

      • Argonaut says:

@Keepitreal this view is a bit old fashioned, these aren’t fashion rules typically adhered to by women meghan’s age or younger. they don’t grow their hair long just to put it up all the time. young women don’t care about touching their hair, don’t see it as a problem and that seems to bother some women on this site. times change. please stop applying rules from years ago to modern women.

      • Veronica says:

@Argonaut, styles do change, yes. But being professional acting often doesn’t. Even today, if my doctor or lawyer or banker had her hair down and was playing with it, or touching it, or putting it behind her ears continually, I would think it was unprofessional and I bet you would, too.

Kate gets dinged ALL the time here for playing with her hair. What is good for her should be the same for Meghan. And if Kate had such a messy bun, people here would be howling.

    • AG-UK says:

It will never be perfect it’s damp here a lot will frizz in a heartbeat especially if you have naturally curly hair or wavy hair. I don’t know what she does to keep it straight but even if the sun shines it has that slight damp feel all the time to me. I think her hair looks fine at least it’s out of her face.

    • magnoliarose says:

I love messy buns. It softens looks and works for most hair types. It gives looks a little added chic.

  34. homeslice says:

I like MM’s hair. Kate’s always looks like a helmet to me. I have sympathy because I have poufy hair that can be like that too. MM is lucky, she has good hair!

    • Keepitreal says:

      Good hair?! LOL!!

      • Masamf says:

@Keepitreal, people can like MM even if you don’t, its really no biggie. You don’t need to attack and be condescending to every poster that says something nice about Meghan!!

      • LAK says:

Wait…i thought she meant ‘good hair’ as an unintentional LOL reference to Chris Rock’s documentary about what black people think is good hair.

      • magnoliarose says:

        @LAK
I thought so too and giggled. homeslice is often droll.

  35. Reece says:

She doesn’t need a smaller size. You can see from the back that the coat fits her perfectly. She needs something with less material because these tie front, big lapel coat styles are swallowing her. She should go snatch some of Kate’s buttons. lol
Everything else though, I like esp the shoes.

  36. Sal says:

Christ its basic – you don’t wear velvet for day wear unless you have been suddenly transported back the 80’s.

Weird that everyone constantly complaints about Kates ‘wiglets’ despite her hair actually looking sleek, but this girl gets a pass for an updo I wear to do my house cleaning? lol

    • Whatever says:

+1 Spot on re the last paragraph lol

    • minx says:

I think she could do better with her hair, definitely.

    • Tallyhoo says:

Fashion-wise, we have definitely been transported back to the eighties, have you not seen the velvet everything everywhere?

    • magnoliarose says:

I am the defender of wiglets, and I take my job very seriously. Thank You very much.

I would like Kate to style her hair differently. Less newscaster helmet and more youthful and contemporary. But I understand the need for wiglets and use pieces when I do certain styles for formal occasions. If I could style her, she would keep the wiglets, but we would change a few things around.
There are times, looking back at her looks, that Kate can look so lovely and sophisticated. Simple, traditional and chic look fabulous on her. She has a strong face and should lean into looking more commanding and less girlish. Her stylists waste her positive attributes.

      • hope says:

Kate is tall and slender, she has model proportions, she should wear more pieces to look chic and stylish. Unfortunately, she doesn’t. She should venture out a bit when it comes to her style, but I guess she’s comfortable in the clothes she wears.. hence so many repeats.

      • LAK says:

Kate repeats only 5% of her wardrobe. She buys new with each outing.

As the years have past, the cost of her outfits has become exponentially higher.

The idea that she repeats many of her outfits is pure media fiction. It’s repeated so often that it’s on it’s way to becoming truth. Like the 56p we allegedly pay for the royals.

      • hope says:

LAK, I think you misunderstood. I was talking about Kate repeating the same style of outfits, over and over again. When she finds an outfit she likes.. she wears multiples in different colors. It’s the same with her jewelry pieces. She doesn’t have a good eye when it comes to styling/fashion but she should at least hire proper stylists.

      • LAK says:

I see @ hope. Apologies. And i agree wholeheartedly with you.

Speaking of waste, her jewellery waste kills me. DM estimated £650K in the 7yrs she’s been married, excluding wedding gifts. She almost always wears new kikis at £3K a pop every engagement, and aspreys / mappin and webb neck pendants at £5K a pop. I can believe how that figure is so high even if it’s exaggerated. And who can forget those cartier discs that cost £50K for the neck pendant and £35K for the earrings!!!

If she had a good eye for design or hired a jewellery stylist, it wouldn’t look like such a waste. At those prices she can afford heirloom jewels instead of the utterly worthless pieces she buys.

Her clothing on the otherhand will look fabulous when she is 80yrs old so i guess she’s thinking ahead😊😉. Too bad she won’t be fitting into them by dint of biology of old age!!

      • hope says:

Lol, you are so right! If you add it all up, it is a waste. She probably has those Kiki’s in every single color combination! Like why? It would be lovely if she commissioned gorgeous heirloom pieces, but I guess she likes the overpriced Cartier jewelry. Usually, it’s mothers who pass down styling tips, how to buy jewelry tips, etc., but I guess Carole Middleton has the same boring taste! Hopefully, Meghan will do things differently and actually take on professional stylists. She’s doing alright, but I think she needs to ditch her bff Canadian stylist.

    • Scram says:

I don’t like “sleek” or perfectly coiffed hair as a regular everyday style. It’s not a pass, it’s a preference. We all have them.

      • whatever says:

Kate’s everyday hair isn’t perfectly coiffed but when the need arises she knows how to step up her hair game. It’s not about preference, it’s about looking neat on the job.

      • Scram says:

@whatever Kate is basically known for not having a hair out of place that’s why some people say her style is that of a princess doll.

And it is a preference like most style judgements we make on this site. We all come at things from different perspectives. What you see as messy or unprofessional may not look so to others. Though I’ve worn it straight in the past my hair is textured and dry. When I first saw people talking about greasy hair I had to Google it. And a lot of times what looks greasy/stringy to others looks good to me. Same with messy. Good for you or OP if that bun is what your hair looks like while cleaning house, but that’s certainly not the case for me and many others. Good for anyone whose hair can handle frequent styling, various products, or is immune to the elements, but that’s not the case for everyone either and, more importantly, it’s not everyone’s choice to make it so.

I don’t like Kate’s “sausage” curls (however sleek they may look to others to me it looks like she stopped midway through a style session), but I’ve never accused her of not stepping up to the plate for wearing them. I don’t like the length of Meghan’s hair or her beachy waves and the same applies. Not liking the results doesn’t mean I have to ignore the effort that clearly went into whatever look they’re sporting.

  37. Olive says:

    the skirt length is perfect

  38. Sage says:

I want her heels and purse.

The hair touching looks like a comforting/ nervous gesture now. Even when she’s inside she still fiddles with her hair. She should try to break the habit or a lot of her shots will be with her hand near her face. Too me, she still looks uncomfortable.

    • Masamf says:

@Sage, that’s my only issue with the both of them, Meghan and Kate. Constantly touching their hair and attempting to stuff it behind their ears, I really dislike that.

    • magnoliarose says:

I still never notice it when either of them does it. *shrug*

  39. Sharon Lea says:

    Meghan is so photogenic!

  40. Digital Unicorn says:

Love the outfit, esp the shoes and skirt and would buy both. Jumper is Victoria Beckham which I likey – i do like some of VB’s stuff.

These 2 are really going all out to with the PR campaign to intro her to the UK – doing a much better job of it than with W&K.

PS. no risk of her flashing the public with her skirts.

    • PrincessK says:

Interesting that she was bold and went without tights/hose. At first I thought she was wearing them but on closer inspection she isn’t.

  41. Anna says:

I like this outfit! From the messy bun to the open coat and velvet shoes, I think she looks fine. I don’t like the colour combination though, but I’m not a fan of theme dressing anyway.

  42. lobbit says:

You lot are really going to have to learn to deal with the fact that Meghan likes a more relaxed fit for her coats. Ya’ll will also have to contend with her love of belted coats – a love I share, by the way. I seriously had no idea that there was this massive anti-belted coat contingent lurking about. It’s a classic look – what’s not to like?!

    • hope says:

Relaxed and loose fitted coats are in at the moment. Kate likes the buttoned-up look and Meghan prefers belted coats. She just needs to make sure that her coats don’t make her look swallowed up.

  43. CairinaCat says:

At least we don’t need to worry about constantly having to see MM’s butt

  44. ABC says:

I do laugh at the ‘Harry introducing Meghan to the UK’ spiel.. Harry is as clueless as she is about the UK outside of his Home Counties bubble. He’s been to Africa more often than he’s been to Belfast and I don’t recall him being in Scotland ever outside of Balmoral or Edinburgh. It’s cute but it’s revealing how little they do tour the UK.

    • Maybe he goes there privately.

      • LAK says:

        Doubt it.

Anne and Charles are the only royals who visit outside the home counties / Balmoral bubble. Privately and or royal duties.

      • notasugarhere says:

And sometimes Sophie as well, for engagements not privately.

    • scoobie says:

I think this trip may have been suggested by May. Scratch that – it’s absolutely obvious that it was. It’s making a statement that the 6 counties are part of the UK which helps the Tories’ aim to push for hard Brexit. Technically they are, but since they were annexed 100 years ago, many feel that they are not for obvious reasons. The Royals are ludicrous puppets utilized by the British elites. I would have respect for them if they stepped down and enjoyed their wealth privately, whilst allowing Britain to become a Republic. They would probably prefer that but they won’t, simply because of ego and their usefulness as a propaganda tool for a fantasy Britain that has ceased to exist. It’s an utterly transparent mechanism. Meghan Markle is fine but she’s just using this to get what she can out of it. Every child she has will be cash in the bank and security for herself.

  45. Jag says:

The little boy, that changed his mind about giving Harry and Meghan the Easter Egg, said the next time he see Harry, he’ll give him a bigger egg.
Harry is really good with children.

  46. TriedToTellYa says:

She has the most disproportionately tiny ankles I’ve ever seen on a human.

I have the same problem with coats. I am very small framed but I am tall with long arms and most coats look like they swallow me. She probably cannot go down a size because the sleeves will be too short which is what happens on me. So the shoulders end up looking big as a result.

  47. Karen says:

I think she is fabulous! Engaged, happy and stylish. She is a wonderful new addition to the RF.

  48. MangoAngel says:

She’s already doing the diplomatic dressing thing, it seems. Wearing a white sweater, green skirt, and orange shoes… the colors of the Irish flag. Looks great 😍

    • Veronica says:

      Um, it’s the wrong Ireland.
A rather big mistake, BTW. Not her fault. Someone misadvised her.

      • MangoAngel says:

Ha! Good point, I completely blanked on Belfast being in Northern Ireland.

Ah well. Even in the wrong flag she looks lovely.

  49. Laura Dawe says:

It’s so refreshing to read about other women who struggle with being the same size and build as myself. I barely too 5’2, weigh about 108 and have really tiny hands/feet (size 5 in shoes and I buy children’s mittens/socks!) I wish I was taller and that I didn’t have “baby hands” but I guess if I was, then I wouldn’t be me 😊

Meghan looks lovely 💖 And although I have never seen any of you in person, you’re also very beautiful women 💛💛💛

  50. Polly says:

She looks great here, it’s the only outfit I’ve really liked since the black McQueen suit. It’s nice to see her in some colour and this coat is actually a great fit. I don’t mind the messy bun but could do without the ‘bumpit’ look at the back. They look very happy together, it’s nice.

  51. Julia says:

Aren’t her legs and feet cold?

    • Meggles says:

The UK has the maddest weather on the planet. We had a crazy snowstorm and days of freezing temperatures (the ‘beast from the east’) the likes of which happen perhaps once or twice a decade. Then overnight it all thawed and we had a few days of warm – not just un-freezing, actively warm – weather. In London people went from not going outside without thermals, thick coat, hat and scarf; to going outside in shorts and light sweaters, literally overnight. Then after a few days of lovely spring-like warmth, temperatures dropped again and we had another couple of days of snow and cold. And now it’s back to a sort of medium grey neutral. Slightly chilly but not cold.

This is a very long post just over Meghan’s clothing choices but those pics were probably taken during a warmer spell.

  52. me says:

The way she looks at him…with so much love. It really shows. She has one amazing life to look forward to.

  53. Peg says:

There is a body expert on the Dailymail, describing Meghan touching her hair, as a way to make people around her comfortable, and they used every picture of her gazing at Harry yesterday, LOL.
People are going to lose it, because he/she said Harry was eating it up, and hope Meghan do not change, her spontaneous hugging or her facial expressions.
By the way he/she said Meghan has Harry wrapped around her finger, but he is in LOVE.
Did not bother to read the comments, but they were over a thousand.
Now they can’t complain about the Taxpayers money paying for love taps, so it’s back to her hair.

  54. minxx says:

I love this outfit, she’s styled perfectly and it doesn’t look laboured. The shoes are great and I LOVE her purse game. She’s simple, modern yet sophisticated.
