Katie Nicholl: ‘Rule breaker’ Meghan Markle will go for a conservative wedding gown

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visit the Eikon Centre in Lisburn

Katie Nicholl is still shilling her book, Harry: Life, Loss, and Love. As I’ve said before, I’m suspicious of Nicholl’s pro-Middleton narratives, because I suspect Nicholl’s access is not so much with the royal family as it is with the Middleton family. She tends to frame everything – even Harry and Meghan – around William and Kate’s activities, desires and Cambridgeness. So, obviously, in Nicholl’s mind, Meghan’s wedding dress choice is going to be all about Kate. Will Meghan “outshine” Kate’s dress, will Meghan want to outdo Kate’s McQueen, etc? Nicholl spoke to Entertainment Tonight about her thoughts on Meghan’s dress. Some highlights:

Nicholl on the secrecy around the dress: “I expect that Meghan will go to great lengths to keep her wedding dress designer a secret until the moment that she emerges from the bridal car. Let’s be honest, this is a girl who knows how to keep a secret. She and Harry kept their romance clandestine for months, so she knows how to stay tight-lipped… There’s going to be so much attention on the dress. She’s like every other bride in that respect, she wants to keep it a secret up until the last minute.”

Meghan will go conservative with the dress: “I think when it comes to her wedding dress, she knows that this is a very, very important dress. It’s got to fit for the occasion, it’s got to suit the regal historical backdrop that is Windsor Castle. I’m told that she wants something with lace, that she wants something with sleeves. Of course she’s dressing for the rather inclement British weather, but more than that she’s dressing for a very, very important occasion. So I think you will be probably pleasantly surprised for Meghan the ‘rule breaker’ when it comes to this dress. I think it’s gonna tick all the right boxes: traditional, elegant, sophisticated, memorable, and fitting.”

Nicholl says Meghan would never try to “upstage” Kate’s wedding look: “There have been reports that [Meghan’s] considering spending hundreds of thousands of pounds on a wedding dress. I think that’s incredibly unlikely. Kate Middleton’s dress cost 150,000 pounds. It was her parents, Carol and Michael Middleton, who paid for that bill. I think it was very unlikely that Meghan would spend more than that and in doing so try and upstage a future queen. I think Meghan is very sensible. She understands what the perception will be of this gown. I don’t think she’s going to want to get royal life off to a start where she’s criticized for spending something like 400,000 pounds on a wedding dress. I just dont think it will happen.”

Nicholl things the designer is either Ralph and Russo or Stewart Parvin: “There’s a lot of speculation that she might be going for Stewart Parvin, who is one one of the queen’s favorite couturiers. It would be fabulous for her to fly the flag for British fashion, but we will have to wait and see. And I think we’ll probably have to wait until the day.”

[From ET]

Meghan is not “the rule breaker” unless the rule is “whites only.” Meghan is an educated woman who worked and supported herself for years as an actress. She’s shown she knows how to dress like a professional woman for professional work events. She is, by all accounts, well-spoken, conversational, smart, funny and engaging. What f–king rules is she breaking? As for the rest of it… I also doubt that Meghan is going to spend $400K on her wedding gown, but I doubt it has anything to do with Kate and the cost of Kate’s McQueen. I think Meghan just has different taste, different style than Kate in general, and Meghan’s gown will hopefully look nothing like Kate’s (which was just Sarah Burton’s imitation of Grace Kelly’s wedding gown anyway).

Lace. So few lace dresses ping for me. Meghan is so petite. I hope her designer doesn’t weigh her down in doilies.

    • Nancy says:

Yes! Lace would be lovely. The only concern I have for her is fitting her properly. It seems everything from coats to dresses are too big………..which is mind boggling since petite clothing specifically has been around forever. All brides are pretty, right? Sunday mornings…husband and kids at Mass then breakfast while I comment on Meghan with my baby!!! ***could be worse, I have one cute little munchkin!!***

    • Tigerlily says:

Princess Claire of Belgium had a gorgeous gown with lace on the bodice and sleeves. It was slightly off the shoulder. I believe Ellie Saab made the gown. Loved it.

    • PrincessK says:

I would like to see Meghan wear a plain satin gown with plenty of structure. I cannot think of one aspect of Kate’s gown that was memorable.

    • Msthang says:

Chutney’s dress was 450,000 not 250,000, I remember the commentators saying there was all this hand embroidered stuff, and they would have to go and wash their hands every 30 minutes because of oils, it was very meticulous work, but at least the Midd’s paid for it. Personally my mom said it was a sin to spend that much on a frock she was going to be in for a few hours. Weddings are such a waste of money!!

  2. MVC says:

    Not lace again, plesase 🙁

    • Addie says:

Is there a lace surplus in the UK? I think Meghan’s petite form would be best shown with a simple, elegant gown. No fuss. Her clothing choices so far point to this. Fingers crossed she doesn’t dress like a meringue.

I don’t see Meghan as a rule-breaker. On the contrary, she has been very accommodating to her new role, new family and new public. I don’t think that will change once she is married – she has already signalled her intention of fitting in to whatever will be asked of her. I can’t see any other woman in Meghan’s position behaving differently.

Meghan is much brighter and more driven than Harry and therein (for me) lies the mismatch. Unless Harry willingly steps up to meaningful work rather than the usual feint efforts that do little but generate good PR for the royal, and it’s off the air till next time, Meghan will simply have to fit into his and his brother’s idea of ‘work’ but I’m assuming she may be fine with that. That is what ‘the boys’ have set in motion. Their PR expertly circulates one narrative espousing their service to a gullible public, while the great expanse of their time is lived privately and unaccounted for.

    • notasugarhere says:

Does anyone else remember Annabeth Gish’s (Mystic Pizza) wedding dress? Something like that (strapless with chiffon overlay) but covering the shoulders. Nods to Lady Sarah Chatto and Mette-Marit of Norway.

  3. Peg says:

It was a British Tabloid that wrote Meghan’s wedding dress cost 4000,000£s, when they don’t even know who the designer is.
Katie Nicholl is full of BS, anyone anywhere in the World could write this drivel.
She seem to forget that Meghan is 36 yrs old, a grown women that knows what she likes.
Meghan is petite, so hopefully her wedding dress is simple and elegant, if it is too fussy, she will look like she is playing dress up.

  4. Frome says:

I suspect it will be her mother’s dress but tweaked to suit her own style.

    • Peg says:

I think when Meghan’s mother got married, she looked like a size 00.
Thirty eight years later, not sure dress is around.
This is a special day in her, as with any bride, having a say in your bridal gown is a given.

      • Frome says:

Yeah I wasn’t implying that her mother would arm twist her into it. Her mother is clearly awesome.

I just think that Meghan would do it for symbolic purposes. Her wedding is going to be heavily weighted down by the traditions and demands of her grooms family, she will probably want to assert her own family’s history too. Theres a tonne of other symbolic reasons too including ceremonially inserting her black family into a union with a family that just 80 years ago were colonisers to three quarters of the black and brown peoples of the world. I seriously believe that Meghan is the type of person to turn that frivolous moment into something more meaningful and thought provoking.

By the way, given that this is her second walk down the aisle, I doubt she will be obessesing about being the most fashionable bride of the year. Second time around you know the wedding ritual is fluff and you are more focused on the union part. Even at that Heads Together event, Harry teased her for not being the regular royal bride devoting all her time to wedding fluff.

      • guest says:

I hope she invites her black family members. Her father’s side is complete trash.

    • minx says:

      I highly doubt it.

      • Msthang says:

Frome, it’s her third marriage, their was an anullment before her 2 year marriage and divorce, oh my goodness poor Gingerboy!! She’ll be rushing back to the golden state, first signs of trouble!! Sorry I spelled anullment wrong!!!

    • Jayna says:

Why would she? She’s been married before and didn’t wear her mother’s gown. I certainly didn’t want to wear my mother’s wedding dress, nor did any of my friends.

Meghan’s wedding gown from her first marriage.

      http://s03.s3c.es/imag/_v0/640×700/9/9/6/meghan-3.jpg

      • Ankhel says:

Really? That kind of dress is sold for $60 in every tacky mall store. Good thing she’s older and has a bigger budget now.

      • Jayna says:

@Ankhel, no, I don’t like her wedding gown in her first marriage. It’s not flattering and does look cheap. My point was if she didn’t wear her mother’s gown in her first wedding, why would she wear it in her second wedding? Plus, she has the best designers at her disposal for this Royal wedding.

And, yes, her personal style seems to have evolved a lot more, even in just recent years, as far as a more classic look, compared to even some red carpet looks a few years ago which were flashier and styles not so flattering bodywise or for her height.

      • Ankhel says:

I got your point, sorry for confusing you! My “Really” was because Meghan wore such a basic and cheap looking dress to her own wedding.

Your point about her not being likely to wear her mother’s dress now, when she didn’t before, makes sense. I can’t see her settling for a used, “normal” gown for a royal wedding either. She certainly splurged on her engagement dress, so she’s not immune to luxury.

      • Olenna says:

I think Meghan’s parents had a small, non-traditional wedding and her mother didn’t wear a gown. I saw a post-ceremony photo from it that I think one of her mother’s relatives or her obnoxious half-siblings posted, but I don’t have a link. I do recall seeing pics of QM Carole and Mike Middleton’s wedding; she wore a traditional wedding gown.

    • Cynical Ann says:

Her mother’s dress from a marriage that ended in divorce? No. That isn’t happening. Of course she’s going to have her own, gorgeous gown.

      • Lorelei says:

Which I why I never understood why Kate is so thrilled with her engagement ring. Such bad karma.

    • PrincessK says:

Where did you see a picture of her mother’s wedding dress?

      • Msthang says:

Lorelei, Ditto 100 percent. If the marriage had turned out great I could see it but Chopper is too cheap. And from my perspective a very serious bad omen! I remember before the wedding, elderly ladies were discussing it and they didn’t think it was a good sign and I personally was kind of shocked. I just thought if he was so crazy about her, why didn’t he have a beautiful ring made. Except I highly doubt he was that besotted with her anymore ,as much as what she could offer him in bed, and not much else…. Sad really which is why when he truly falls in love with a beautiful woman, he won’t have any problems throwing her under the bus, and she will be a blip in the history books!

  5. Redgrl says:

Please no lace. And hopefully not those hideous boob darts that Kate Middleton had – so unflattering.

    • Citresse says:

I don’t think HM liked the wonder woman boob darts either. Remember how cold it appeared between Kate and HM during the exhibition of her dress? There was something going on and the dress exacerbated that meeting.

      • Redgrl says:

I didn’t hear about that – I will have to look that up!

      • FLORC says:

The kate and Queen exhibit walk… remember it well. It was more that the Queen didn’t approve of the way the dress was displayed. https://youtu.be/vHbOK0IVALQ
Leading up it was said kate worked very hard on the presentation. After it wasn’t discussed much.

      • Abby says:

Kate looks so scarily thin in that video. Seriously frightening. I’d forgotten how bad it was.

      • Nic919 says:

What are the chances that Kate actually had anything to do with that presentation? Especially since there was no one to prod her to work. And then the Queen didn’t like the display? Yeah no way Kate was going to take credit for it at that point.

    • Shotcaller says:

Nothing strange going on between them. The dress was underlit for the exhibition and the queen, in a moment of hilarious forthrightness, said the effect was “ghastly”. Must have been awkward as hell for Kate but it wasn’t personal and Liz was right. The display was very Miss Havisham, imo.

      • Citresse says:

Shotcaller, thanks for that bit of information about HM, however I still sensed some tension during that meeting. I believe the relationship is better now, especially considering Kate will give birth to baby three soon. HM loves to see a happy family within the Cambridge household. William makes no secret he wishes his permanent household was Amner but I keep hoping his adjustment to London will bring acceptance.
As for MM’s dress, I’d like to see a photo of her mother’s dress to get an idea of the final design.

      • Shotcaller says:

        Citresse
I like the tradition of wearing family veils but donning another woman’s dress seems creepy, especially seeing how that marriage turned out. Now I also want to see the mom’s dress and veil!

      • magnoliarose says:

I highly doubt her mother even kept it. I wore some heirloom pieces, but it was my dress. My oldest sister wore my mother’s.
I just don’t see her doing that.

      • notasugarhere says:

HM didn’t call it ghastly, she called it “horrible”. If you watched The Coronation, you’d have heard her say the same thing. There is video of them visiting the dress exhibit floating around somewhere.

    • Veronica says:

I wasn’t crazy about Kate’s gown, either. Meghan may very well spend more than Kate on her gown. She spent a lot on the engagement gown, so she likes to spend. I think for PR sake, she shouldn’t spend a lot for a second wedding gown. I don’t even understand why they aren’t doing a Charles and Camilla quiet second wedding. This seems ludicrous for a second time around.

      • Tigerlily says:

It’s Harry’s first marriage so I don’t think it’s ludicrous at all. It was second wedding for both Camilla & Charles so totally different circumstances.

      • Nic919 says:

I don’t think it’s fair to say Meghan likes to spend when the actual cost of the engagement dress was never confirmed and she was extremely unlikely to pay the full value that the DM has estimated to be. And again it was the DM that said her dress would be 400k. Meanwhile, we have seen Kate spend at least 200k every single year for barely 100 times out of the palace and there is no question it isn’t her money. Plus Meghan has a job and should be able to spend her own money as she wants to. Only once the marriage takes place is it time to start comparing their clothing budget.

      • PrincessK says:

I agree Tigerlily…people are forever comparing Meghan’s situation to camilla’s which is totally different.

      • Veronica says:

Well, it is the second wedding for Meghan. I think that the extravagance, the excitement over her (second) wedding gown, her (second) honeymoon is ridiculous. And a huge waste of money, money that belongs to the taxpayers.

  6. Merritt says:

I don’t think Kate’s dress looked anything like Grace Kelly’s dress. I find myself agreeing with the Order of Splendor. The dress that looked the most like Grace’s was former Princess Alexandra of Denmark’s gown except it is indeed a winter version.

    http://orderofsplendor.blogspot.com/2012/11/wedding-wednesday-princess-alexandra-of.html

    • SKF says:

Yeah I’ve never gotten this. So sleeves, a high collar and lace = Grace rip-off? That’s most winter wedding gowns right there. I mean, it’s not like there are endless styles. If you want conservative, elegant and classic the number of design elements in wedding dresses shrinks down significantly. To be honest, I preferred Kate’s dress to Grace’s and I thought she knocked it out of the park. Grace made a deal with MGM to keep her dresses from High Society and let their head costume designer Helen Rose make her wedding dress. Helen and her team did an incredible job and it was obviously a beautiful and elegant dress but it’s not like Grace had the best taste ever and a lot of input into the design. I love Grace’s dress but I’m overall not a big fan of taffeta because it always looks creased. Kate’s skirt was totally different. Literally the only similarities are a high collar (which gives an elegant neckline – super flattering), long sleeves and lace at the top. Also, let’s be honest: Grace’s dress was beautiful but it was elevated to the next level because it was Grace freaking Kelly wearing it – one of the most beautiful women in the world.

      • Olenna says:

Agree; I didn’t see much resemblance between the two gowns. I think Isabella Orsini’s gown had a more similar look to KM’s. I really do hope MM avoids too much lace (none would be better) and, please, no v-necks.
        https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2011/05/12/snap-is-kate-middleton-s-wedding-dress-a-copy-of-this-bride-s-gown_n_7409620.html

      • Jayna says:

Amen. Grace’s dress seemed more beautiful than it was because the stunning beauty Grace Kelly was in it. I preferred Kate’s gown.

Kate’s didn’t resemble Grace’s at at all besides what you stated. I think that’s the only reason that was mentioned. I remember the tide changing after Kate’s wedding from the strapless Vera Wang look that had taken hold for so many years and the sexy look to many brides then wanting a more classic look, a more traditional look, or something that had some type of lace sleeves and/or high neckline.

I had a friend, a beautiful redhead with long hair, who was going for the usual very sexy look and completely changed course after Kate’s wedding. She didn’t go with long sleeves, but she did go with a gown that had straps and a lot of beautiful lace in a more classic look. She was positively stunning at her wedding.

There were many articles about the effect Kate’s gown had on the bridal industry as far as certain gown styles regaining more popularity again.

      • Snappyfish says:

My first thought when I saw The dress was that’s Sarah Burton learned well at the Hand is Lee McQueen. That dress was exquisitely cut. I also really like the reception dress and the cover up

      • magnoliarose says:

@Jayna Kate’s dress wasn’t the first of that style, but it was the most seen and brought white lace back for brides. Though it isn’t as common now as it was for several years.
@Olenna I don’t like modern lace, so I hope MM does not do it. I agree about V necks too. I rarely like wedding dresses, so I am prepared not to like it. I have lowered my expectations so I won’t be disappointed.

      • Jayna says:

@Magnoliarose, it also brought back more brides steering away from strapless.

I don’t place a lot of importance on what brides choose. It’s individual. For me, I loved a more simple gown. As long as the silhouette is flattering, that’s the most important thing. Many brides love a certain type of gown and want what isn’t flattering on them because of their height or shape or whatever. Even then, if they feel absolutely beautiful on their wedding day, then they are, because that radiates from within, how they are feeling in their gown. And ultimately that’s what it’s all about, a celebration of marriage and their day, not what we think the bride should have worn.

I absolutely loved Amal Clooney’s gown on her. The lace was gorgeous, and it was the perfect gown on her with her height and body shape, and I loved how it came off shoulder.. I loved her hair down and the veil. On someone else, the gown might not have looked as pretty. It looked like a heavy gown. It’s really about the type of gown that works on the bride and the type of wedding they are having, small, large, formal, casual, etc.

    • Unoriginal Commenter says:

Oh good—I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks GK and KM’s dresses were quite different. I too am hoping MM does something extremely different, no or minimal lace.

    • Liberty says:

The two gowns were not similar. The reportage was designed to gloss Kate with a “commoner marries a prince” diamond shower for the public, though a stunning accomplished worldly actress (Grace) and a do-little girl like Kate have little in common.

    • So Cal says:

Kate’s dress was more like Autumn Phillips’ wedding dress in which she was an invited guest without William at the time and it was a big deal.

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

The bodice of Kate’s wedding dress looked very much like a 2004 Monique Lhuillier that Lea Salonga wore at her wedding.

    • notasugarhere says:

Kate’s dress was a knockoff of Isabella Orsini’s, and every other lace covered, v-necked dress that was out long before Burton made that one.

  7. Feebee says:

God, this woman’s writing reads worse than EL James.

    • Skylark says:

She sounds quite demented, doesn’t she? I particularly appreciated being told that Meghan’s ‘dressing for a very, very important occasion’.

The wedding dress ‘mystery’ pales into insignificance alongside the much more pertinent mystery as to why this gibbering idiot is being given the media platform she is.

    • Alix says:

Terrible! She’s such a literary lightweight, I imagine the Harry book comes with a rock to place on top to keep it from floating away.

      • Liberty says:

🙂 ha brilliant re the rock! This Nicholl woman is spinning as fast as she can now that her Middleton tales are less interesting with Meghan and Harry around.

Liberty’s Pulled It Out of My Hairdo Insiderishly Wedding News, Nicholl style:

Meghan will go conservative with the dress: I think it can be said that in spite of Meghan being the wild child with her known obsession with education, working, and self-starting, she is unlikely to choose a gown without a skirt. Insiders seem to agree that holes for her arms to go thru, even sleeves, are on her must list, which was said to have been shared with someone who knows how to sew and whose creations are likely sold in the UK. There is some agreement among palace staffers particularly on the second floor that lace will appear in some form somewhere on the day, albeit Meghan likes to keep things a secret, choosing to live inside a building behind closed doors while in London, and is said to have merely smiled when second undercook Bertha Samuelson inquired about the color of her wedding day bra.

Meghan will probably not try to “upstage” Kate: those privy to the twelve block vicinity of Nottingham Cottage agree that Meghan will probably not choose to shivvy 400,000 pounds out of a relative such as a hard-partying uncle for a gown, out of respect for a memo from the Queen. It is expected that Meghan, being American and not coming from paper plate and balloon money, will modestly have her mother help the chosen designer make her gown at out of simple muslin and twine. Buttons are also a big no, as are the Primark canvas wedges Meghan had hoped to wear in her nervous walk down the aisle toward her besotted, easily controlled prince. An insider says, “Meghan knows she needs to show the utmost respect to the historic wedding efforts of her new sister to be, who carefully planned her own gown for ten years, forcing William to wait patiently before finally slipping Diana’s stunning world famous ring on his beloved’s finger.” Meghan is said to want a dress “ as simple and makeshift as the ring Harry cobbled together for her at an iron mongers, saying to a friend that nothing must take attention away from the third Middleton baby, Kate, Carol, or Pippa, even on her special day, understanding it is only special to some Americans.”

@Magnoliarose – I love your comments on these threads and so this is quite a compliment! So listen to this—I had a friend in Boston who was an artist, and she also made inventive beautiful clothing for all of us as a sort of side business. Crazy cocktail hours + sewing salons with everyone having the best time. She was ingenius, and once on a bet made an amazing dress from muslin and hemp twine and black ribbon for her sister to wear to a museum event. I must have been channeling a buried memory!

Everything she writes is either obvious or pulled from her a**. She’s provided this site with some good laughs, though, I’ll give her that.

      • Shotcaller says:

Not true. At one point she was the envy of royal reporters when it came to the young royals. But times change, she’s no longer clubbing or attending events with them. She lives in NYC now, got married and has a new baby. She’s not getting close scoops anymore and it shows but her career definitely had been one of unprecedented access. My journalist friend says everyone in his circle is still convinced Nicholl and Harry had a brief tryst.

  8. RBC says:

Standing up in front of my family and friends was nerve wracking enough on my wedding day. The thought of the whole world watching and critiquing what I was wearing would have me in the hospital from a major panic attack.

    • Lauri says:

Lol RBC!!! We had our wedding at 10am because I couldn’t take the thought of sitting around all day panicking.

      • Dee Kay says:

Same here. 10 am wedding, on a Friday. I wanted it to be over and done with, even though I had the beautiful dress, my wonderful man, the great church and reception venue, etc. Weddings are *not* for the bride and groom, we figured that out early. It is all about being judged by 100 family members and friends for what you wear and how you stand and what you are doing or not doing. It’s also a fun situation for all of them to get a little tipsy and gossip with one another. (Maybe this is only for big Catholic families, it’s possible smaller and more intimate families have weddings that are not like this.) I was so pleased when it was all over and my husband and I could snuggle and watch movies.

  9. Buncihita says:

Is it true that this is actually her 3rd wedding? That the first one was annulled? People commenting in the Fail keep saying this but I haven;t heard it anywhere else.
I agree that she will wear something conservative, of course! What do people expect? I also suspect that seeing as she has been married before, she will not wear white.

    • Lobbit says:

A bunch of angry royalists invented a first marriage/annulment but not a shred of credible evidence exists to support their conspiracy theories.

      • Olenna says:

True. They either snatched or edited some BS written on a boyfriend/who is dating who website and have spread the rumor far and wide. I guess they’re holding the “receipts” until the wedding.

      • magnoliarose says:

Bigots. They astonish me with their shamelessness and cruelty.

      • Marr says:

They even used her prom photos from highschool as ‘evidence’ of a third wedding from her youth.

    • Peg says:

It’s like they said she converted to Judaism.
Then she is Catholic, because went to a Catholic School.
And folks know darn well they’re lies but keep repeating, trying to do a hachette job.

    • Buncihita says:

Thank you for clarifying. I thought that if it was indeed real it would have made the news, not just the comments!

    • Bethany F says:

don’t believe any rumors originating in the DM comment section

i doubt the gown will be anything but white. divorced women wear white to their second weddings all the time now.

    • Sharon Lea says:

I wondered if this was her 3rd marriage too after seeing those comments on the DM, but couldn’t find anything. Wish there was a way that Meghan could set the record straight because I doubt they’ll give up saying it just to troll her otherwise.

    • Susannah says:

Those comments all originate from Tumblr crazies.
If you go by those crazies then Meghan is lying about her age and ability to give poor Harry children because she’s at least in her mid-forties. She’s had three possibly four marriages and the same amount of religions, whatever catches her a man!
She was also a prostitute at SoHo Houses around the world, which is where she met Harry and started her grifter plans! My favorite though is that she’s conspiring with her friends the Obamas to try to bring down the royal family from within to fit with their globalist agendas. (The Tumblr Crazies all seem to be ardent Trump supporters, what a surprise and globalism is a true sin! They’re all truly nuts!)

      • Bethany F says:

people say “globalist” when we all know what they mean is “jewish”

don’t believe rumors started by anti semitics
don’t repeat rumors started by anti semitics
don’t give anti semitics any kind of platform

      • magnoliarose says:

        Dog whistling antisemite racist loons.
But be warned Tumblr was infiltrated by Russian trolls and bots. Several people I know were notified that they had engaged with one or more of them.

      • Lady D says:

Did not realize globalist was racist-speak for Jewish. Thanks for the info.

      • Susannah says:

        @Bethany f
I had no idea that globalist was anti-semitic. I don’t think the Tumblr Crazies are using it in that context as they think Meghan is tight with the Obamas and constantly say they will bring the anti-Brexit, anti-racism, pro-immigration and pro-feminism views to the traditional family values of the BRF which the Meghan haters are completely against. To them, that’s a real horror and especially that and she’s biracial too, racism seems to be the big problem with Meghan haters but that usually does go with anti-semitism too. When I tried to engage with one of them once and mentioned that I was bi-racial too, they just said that “I wouldn’t understand then…”

      • Sharon Lea says:

Susannah – thanks for explaining where those ideas spring from, Tumblr. Not that it really helps, but they were so bizarre. I saw some a couple of those ideas on DM, like the escorting (thought they were trying to give her the Wallace narrative ‘trades learned in the Orient’ malarkey). They definitely have a lot in common with the Russian/Trump trolls 😉

      • Olenna says:

This is some crazy stuff–associating Meghan with global political maneuvering in *collusion* with the Obamas. I’ll repeat an earlier observation I made: I cannot believe how much these people empower her. Meghan, do you hear that? You have *all* the power b/c these nutters just handed it to you. They are the stereotypical, ignorant, fearful ultra right-wing deplorables who don’t even understand global economics. If I was as crazy as they are, I’d be afraid that Big Brother was watching my every internet move and be too terrified to post that dumb, hateful sh*t.

P.S. Don’t forget to tune in to the 60 Minutes Stormy Daniels interview if you can!

I’ve opened wine and I’m ready for Stormy.

      • LAK says:

Magnoliarose: i was with you until you mentioned George Soros. I lived through him deliberately betting against Sterling which caused a market crash that triggered a deep recession in the UK. Meanwhile he walked away with a billion pounds and claimed market forces and nought what he did.

I’m sorry that he suffered the holocaust, but that doesn’t excuse him going on to ruin a country. It would be the same as excusing rapist Polanski on the grounds that he survived the holocaust and his wife died.

Soros has never hidden his agenda whether that is moneymaking or using that money to destabilise govts. Destabilising govts with no thought to the people of those countries.

It’s bad enough when secret service spy agencies do it and it’s bad when rich people do it.

      • PrincessK says:

The British trolls also tend to be Brexiteers, who want to go back to the ‘wonderful’ 1950s….a time when racial abuse was considered a joke and black people had no right to complain. This explains why these people are furious that the child of a black woman is going to be HRH.

  10. Ankhel says:

“I am told she wants something in lace, something with sleeves”

Well, MY sources tell me she wants something with a skirt, in white.

  11. Spicecake38 says:

She is absolutely beautiful, petite, and has a gorgeous warm complexion-She should go as simple as possible and let nothing overpower her natural beauty. This woman needs no extra help from a lace or jeweled gown.

    • Ankhel says:

Agreed. Plain silk, off white, cream maybe, and some exquisite draping. McQueen? Plain veil, and peachy yellow and/or pink flowers with bright green leaves. Lilies? She would be gorgeous.

    • minx says:

      Agreed. Simple and sleek.

    • Skylark says:

I think a magnolia white (with that warm creaminess) would look stunning with her colouring. And would work so beautifully with the suggested ‘peachy’ flowers.

    • magnoliarose says:

I agree. I can’t see her choosing something fussy.

    • notasugarhere says:

I agree. Something like Maxima’s (without the lace trim on the skirt) or Crown Princess Victoria’s. Still the possibility of a coat dress, even if they aren’t popular now. That would allow her to have a simple shift dress underneath like Sophie Wessex and Martha-Louise of Norway did, while covering up for the Church.

  12. Other Renee says:

She wil wear white. She won’t want to remind the British public that this is not her first rodeo by wearing any other color.

    • Masamf says:

@Other Renee, ITA. And I would wear white, even if it killed me, just to spite the naysayers!!.
Nicholls is full of $h!t and her drivel is tiresome. She’s so desperate to stay relevant and show she has access to the BRF. Her desperation is really showing.

  13. Sherry says:

I hate lace. I’m looking for something simple and elegant from Meghan for her wedding dress along the lines of CBK’s wedding dress. Though I do agree it will have long sleeves, maybe something with sheer panels like her engagement gown.

Regardless of what kind of dress she has, Meghan will be a stunning bride! I can’t wait!

    • Jayna says:

I love lace on many bride. Although, not for me in a small wedding. I also love simple with no lace. You can be simple and elegant in both. Each bride is different and so is their style, and I love the variety we see nowadays. She’s almost 37 and has been married before. Lace or no lace, I imagine we will see her in a simple but elegant gown that goes with a sophisticated woman like Meghan.

I wasn’t a fan of Meghan’s earlier style on the red carpet, but I loved her character’s style on Suits. Her own personal style seems to have evolved for the better in these later years.

      • Msthang says:

If I ever marry I am gonna elope. will put the money for the wedding on a down payment on the house!!

    • LAK says:

CBK’s dress is goals for me.

      • Lady D says:

Truthfully, her style of dressing should be every woman’s goal. I loved her wedding dress, too. We lost years of fashion pron when we lost CBK and Lady Di.

      • KiddV says:

Now that I’ve seen more of Meghan’s style these last few months, I can totally see her in the CBK dress. With her new Jimmy Choos velvet shoes.

When I married for the second time I had CBK goals, but instead I eloped to the county courthouse with an MK dress from Zappos. There was a time-frame imposed so all of my Kennedy-esque dreams went out the window.

    • notasugarhere says:

Does anyone else remember Annabeth Gish (Mystic Pizza) wedding gown? Simple, elegant, chiffon. Something like that but with covered shoulders for the church would be an option. Reminiscent of Lady Sarah Chatto and Mette-Marit of Norway.

  14. Beth says:

Even if the dress is lacy and has sleeves, it can be pretty, but it needs to fit better than her clothes have been fitting lately. I like her style, but if something doesn’t fit right, it ruins the whole look no matter how pretty the person and the clothing are

  15. Chef Grace says:

    Hope she keeps it secret.
    I like surprises.
    Makes for great reading. LOL.

  16. aquarius64 says:

Meghan’s gown will look nothing like Kate’s. Meghan may surprised everyone and choose an American designer, like Jason Wu. Wu designed Michelle Obama’s first inaugural gown.

    • Jayna says:

I don’t see her choosing an American designer. She will almost certainly choose a British designer to ingratiate herself with the British public as an outsider (American) marrying into the British Royal Family.

    • minx says:

I would bet MM will choose a British designer.

    • Lady D says:

Maybe she will buck tradition and go tea dress length?

      • Jayna says:

That makes shorter women look even shorter. I’m not a fan of tea dress length.

      • Boudica says:

Oh, I’d love that idea! It’s a daytime wedding, so a shorter dress would work very well. I always think long evening gowns only look appropriate for weddings after 5pm, otherwise the guests are all wearing day dresses and the bride is the only one in evening length dress, which seems just wrong to me. It looks less like a dress-up outfit if everyone’s in evening wear. But rather than a big-skirted 50s style tea dress, I’d go for a 1920s style wedding gown something like this: https://wardrobeshop.com/7024/nataya-1920s-gatsby-dress-10709.jpg, or maybe this for a long gown: http://nafdress.com/list-detail-1920s-wedding-dress.html

      • Veronica says:

        Boudica,
I can see her in that first gown, the one by Maggie Sottero or the one further down the page, inspired by Downton Abbey. Those are lovely for a second wedding.

  17. says:

Why is everyone here so against lace?

    • Lauri says:

I’m not against lace per se, but it’s been done to death in recent years, that I’m just over it.

    • Person3514 says:

For real! Reading these comments makes me feel so unstylish. I love lace.

    • HelenaTroy says:

True high quality lace is rare these days. I love *that* kind of lace. My greatgrandmother had lace that cost more than her jewelry all together an she had some hefty pieces. A simple collar or shawl of such lace turned any kind of dress or shirt into a piece of art. So, depends on the lace. A piece of handmade Belgian lace is all about the exquisite detailing, the story it tells and the craftsmanship, much like haute couture. On the other hand, lace without the story and the detailing is just another kind of fabric, no matter how costly and this i the type of lace usually used in bridal dresses.

  18. Sharon Lea says:

I can’t wait to see Meghan’s dress and hope she picks something outstanding, like her engagement gown. Basic, clean lines are boring to me. Unless she wears an amazing tiara as a statement piece, but that is my fantasy. I know she couldn’t ‘upstage’ Kate’s wedding. Really hope she doesn’t have a droopy veil like Kate’s, that was a really bad choice.

    • Jayna says:

Really? I loved her veil. Then again, I’m not a veil person, so what do I know? I liked its simplicity.

    • notasugarhere says:

Both KM and Sophie picked badly when it came to veils. Too light so it blew against their faces and got in the way.

    • PrincessK says:

@ Sharon Lee Meghan will always ‘upstage’ Kate, without trying , she can’t help the fact that she is effortlessly stylish and would be even if she wore a bin bag.

  19. Seraphina says:

I seriously doubt MM gives a rat’s arse about outshining Keen Katie Cambridge.

  20. Nick2 says:

Ugh those lapels!!! Please tell me that isn’t coming in to style?!

  21. Rumi says:

I hope she gets a really pretty tiara.
She’s petite so less and properly fitted is more.
I like antique lace or lace that’s not in a floral pattern.
Personally a 3 1/4 sleeves, slightly off the shoulder, well structured, less fuller gown paired with a very light veil with a pretty Chantilly lace border and a dazzling tiara will look so beautiful on her.
Fabric has to be light yet weighted

    • Jayna says:

Spot on. I like your description of a gown for her.

    • PrincessK says:

Yes Meghan has beautiful shoulders, which should be enhanced, I would like to see her wear a portrait or sabrina neckline, possibly with it turned over….I’m not a fashionista so not sure what its called, its not a cowl neck, this one is stiffer and straighter. I fancy ivory silk satin, but ivory would set the tongues wagging.

  22. Liberty says:

At this point, I hope she and Harry and the Queen wear elegant, flawlessly tailored matching tuxes and top hats, just to leave all the know-it-alls, false friends, and the DM slack-jawed.

  23. Jaded says:

One of my favourite quotes from Pride and Prejudice, said by Mr. Bennett in response to his tiresome wife’s gushing over the lace on another woman’s dress:

“No lace – no lace, Mrs. Bennett, I beg you!”

IMHO she will stun in something utterly simple and elegant.

  24. Bliss 51 says:

I like Kate’s veil but not her gown. I’d like to see Meghan in a jeweled headband (though not rubies beautiful as they are) like the one Ruth Negga wore to the Oscars.
    http://hollywoodlife.com/2017/02/26/ruth-negga-hair-oscars-academy-awards-makeup-2017/

  25. Laura Dawe says:

I was married in 2004, when strapless dresses were popular for weddings. I am very petite, both in height and frame and wire a very simple strapless dress. I am not a big fan of strapless dresses now though, especially in women for whom the dress design does not suit. My entire wedding was traditional (non-church ceremony and reception) but small and simple.

If I ever get remarried (I’m divorced) I would skip the traditional wedding, and get married at the courthouse in a simple yellow dress (yellow is my favourite colour).

I bet Meghan will look gorgeous on her wedding day and can’t wait to see what her dress looks like 💛

  26. bettyrose says:

Yeah, I dislike Nicholl’s use of rule breaker here. It’s seems really loaded, and it’s not clear what rules Meghan’s broken, other than not being born and raised as an Anglo-Brit. She went to private school, attended a prestigious university, worked in a glamorous profession; she’s hardly Eliza Doolittle.

  27. Abbess Tansy says:

My dream wedding dress has no lace.

  28. Alexandria says:

I think she may knock it out of the park. Being older, even I know better what I prefer now. I certainly wish I could change my dress (but not my husband lol), as I have a better idea of what I want. So her first dress is no indication of her next one. Maybe she could have three quarter sleeves, some lace, a boatneck collar, ivory instead of white? A more fitted silhouette rather than ball gown? Something like the first picture with less lace

    http://styletotheaislemag.com/monique-lhuillier-spring-2014-bridal-collection/

Kate’s wedding dress looked like from my part of the world more than Grace Kelly’s IMHO. Google Malay or Indonesian lace kebaya. She looked nice but I wasn’t that blown away.

  29. So Cal says:

Is “petite” the new word for thin or short? I thought petite meant for short women, under 5’5″. Meghan can still shop regular women sizes, not petite, and just wear a small or extra small top, skirt and or dress, right? In terms of U.S. sizing, Meghan looks like a size 2 or 4.

    • bettyrose says:

Petite means short, but it’s been misused to mean thin for so long that it’s come to mean that in common usage. It’s weird because I’m about a size 6 but I shop in petites and I’m embarrassed to call myself petite for fear that someone will tell me I’m not skinny (because size 6 is definitely not skinny by fashion standards).

      • Tigerlily says:

I hear you bettyrose. I am just under 5 ft tall and not skinny. Even at my smallest (105lb) I had a set of D cups that made me look “bigger”. I’d go into various clothing stores and ask if they carried petite sizes and oh we have some 2’s and 4’s. I’d icily say No…petite height not skinny. Drives me crazy.

    • Veronica says:

I think Meghan is probably under 5ft 4in tops, maybe under. She barely comes up to kate’s nose. So she may be petite, as in short, and she is also petite in body size, as in tiny. She looks very small.

    • Msthang says:

So cal, Me thinks she is a size 2 which is a size 6 in Britain.

  30. Eileen says:

My family is very dysfunctional but anyone who is foolish enough to hurl insults about it risks being ripped a new one

  31. Lizzie says:

kate got upstaged by her own sister so i’m sure it won’t be hard for MM to do the same.

    • Veronica says:

I adored Pippa’s gown. I was shocked by how much I loved it. I think a gown like that may look good on Meghan – cap sleeves and a dropped waist because she can look boxy even though she is tiny.
I think it may be something more straight, though. Not flouncy.

  32. guest says:

Kate was pretty much outshined by her own sister with her flat butt on her wedding day.

  33. Shannon says:

I don’t see anything problematic in this piece at all. I think she’s kind of considered a ‘rule-breaker’ simply because she’s honestly different from the usual royal brides we see. Yes, they are usually white, usually British and usually not American actresses. So by rule-breaker I took it as just meaning quite a few differences from what’s usually seen, not as some kind of insult. More like ‘not boring.’ The excerpts seemed very respectful imo. People joked that I was a ‘rule-breaker’ when I got my long hair cut into a pixie (almost unheard of where I live) – I didn’t take it as an insult. It just meant I was doing something out of the norm for these parts. And it’s perfectly possible to like Kate AND Meghan. If I remember correctly, Fergie was called a ‘rule-breaker’ too.

  34. Incognita says:

I am keen to see what Meghan’s mother will wear too. She has an enviable physique and I love her locks too!

    • PrincessK says:

Very good point! After Meghan the bride, all eyes will be on Doria, whose presence will really be groundbreaking for the royal family. The first time a black person will become united by family ties to the senior Royal Family. ( Forget about the Princess Charlotte stuff , all speculation and no proof and the black blood so far removed to make any real sense) I am in no doubt that Doria will look stunning, Meghan has her mother’s cool understated elegance. I hope and pray that Doria will keep her hair in beautiful braids. Doria will almost get top billing with Meghan in terms of attention without a single doubt.

  35. MyLittlePony says:

I only wonder about the tiara… May be she will get a new one made for her as Sophie and Fergie did? I cannot see Meghan getting any of the big(er) guns at this point really if at all, and Kate pretty much has access to other available major tiaras for now.

  36. ec07 says:

I really like the way she’s keeping it simple: her style is waaay better than kate’s… speaking of which: how can you spend 150k on that dress???? seriously??? i just can’t get it.
