Taraji P. Henson wore a fancy bathrobe look for her big ‘Acrimony’ premiere

World Premiere of Tyler Perry's 'Acrimony'

Someday, I hope to be famous enough to roll up to a premiere in a bathrobe and have everyone kiss my ass and tell me that I look great. Taraji P. Henson is that famous. And truly, I’ll kiss her ass: she looks great in this bathrobe. I would look terrible if I tried to wear that. Taraji attended the New York premiere of her latest film, Tyler Perry’s Acrimony. Do you think this look was improvised because her real premiere dress didn’t come in on time? Or was this always going to be the look? Bathrobe chic: a trend I can get behind.

If you’re anything like me, you probably thought to yourself, “Hey isn’t Taraji famous enough at this point where she doesn’t have to do Tyler Perry movies?” She is that famous, but my guess is that Taraji likes to work (in general) and that Tyler Perry probably wrote this part for Taraji. It looks like a rare opportunity for an African-American actress to have a lead role in a pulpy soap-opera type of film:

Honestly, I would watch this. I wouldn’t go to the theater to watch it, but I love Fatal Attraction-type movies about wronged women and murderous revenge. I would watch this on TV. I would rent this. So I could watch it my bathrobe.

Honestly…and this pains me a bit to say so, but I think Rita Ora did it better. I’m so sorry I feel this way, but here we are.

I don’t like it. Nice legs though. I’m ” blessed” with thunder thighs. 😠

Are you joking? In what world does she look great? It’s going to be very hard for me to take your fashion hot takes seriously from now on if you think THIS is a good look.

Are we sure that isn’t a bathrobe? It really just looks like a bathrobe. It even looks like terrycloth.

  5. Beth says:

The bathrobe I wear every morning is a lot prettier, but I don’t wear it in public

  6. JaneDoesWork says:

This looks like a literal bathrobe. Not inspired by, not evoking, it literally looks like its made of terry cloth.

    Come on!

Agreed. Rita rocked it with the jewels. And everyone looks fabulous in a turban. Tarahi’s actual dress is way better than Rita’s bathrobe she just missing the jewels. And a turban. Is there anyway she could be the mystery biter? I’ve given her the side eye ever since she defended The Sleazecrest

I love Taraji but gurl what were you thinking??

Tyler Perry writes the flimsiest, most superficial parts for women that traffic solely in internal incoherence and gross stereotypes about feminine morality. I’m pretty sure Taraji will bring wells of depth to the part (and Perry’s still one of the only superstars actually writing complicated black characters), but I’d bet this thing will ultimately be yet another in a long line of movies that misunderstand what the hell motivates a woman in this world.

The bathrobe sucks, but she looks confident and beautiful.

After her support for Ryan Seacrest, I dislike her.
I wasn’t a fan before as I find her extra.
She has a great body and this bath robe looks awful.

I’m guessing it’s a dress because of the black button … but it just looks like a terry cloth robe. Ridiculous. If you tried wearing that to someone’s wedding or a formal event, you’d never hear the end of it.

After zooming in on that close up, it looks more like a brocade, and not terrycloth.
Either way I’m relieved I didn’t buy the red wrap coat from Tracee Ellis Ross’ JCP collection.
Without a doubt, I know that every time I’d wear it, someone would be like, “WTF is she wearing a robe for?”
She looks warm and cozy in her wrap coat, people. Let her live lol
