Sarah Jessica Parker brought twins Tabitha & Marion to the NYC Ballet gala

New York City Ballet

Sarah Jessica Parker isn’t one of those celebrities who constantly posts social media photos of her kids, nor is she the type to constantly bring her kids as her “dates” on red carpets. But she’s also not completely weird about her kids being photographed – she’s often seen out and about in New York with her kids, and there’s some kind of balance there, you know? I don’t really remember what her son James looks like but I remember that we’ve seen him. Same with her twin daughters, at least before right now. SJP walked the carpet of the New York City Ballet’s Spring Gala event last night with daughters Tabitha and Marion.

First off, SJP is a huge patron to the NYC Ballet and to ballet causes in general. She always attends these events. My guess is that Tabitha and Marion are finally old enough to really participate in this kind of event and SJP is so happy that she gets to bring them out. Don’t ask me which is which – I have no idea. I’m a little bit surprised by how different they look! I knew they were fraternal – not identical – twins, but wow, they really don’t look anything alike. SJP recently talked about how different they are, telling People Magazine (via E!): “They have different interests. They’re really devoted to each other, but they’ll also say, ‘I need time away from her.’ Tabitha can play by herself for hours. Loretta always needs to be checking in. They go to different schools. That’s Tabitha’s idea.” LOL. Tabitha sounds like a pistol.

I can’t shade this. I love the ballet and if I had daughters I think this would be a lovey outing. They they are cute and sweet. Love their shoes and little purses!

    • InVain says:

The girls are so cute. But I’ll shade by saying – ENOUGH with those shades of eyeshadow SJP. The smokey eye has got to go.

      • smcollins says:

@invain I couldn’t agree more about the eye makeup. Her eyes are too small for that look which in turn makes them almost disappear. Her eyes are a beautiful bright blue, they should be accentuated not hidden.
On a positive note her daughters are adorable. One is a little SJP, the other a little Matthew Broderick. So much cuteness!

      • holly hobby says:

Yep the eye make up needs to go.

      • minx says:

IMO her hair is too severe. She either wears it in her usual long center-part-dark-roots style or swept up like this. It’s not flattering. For someone who is so fashion conscious she has a blind spot about her hair and makeup,

      • Tigerlily says:

It’s not just the blue eyeshadow but the smoky black liner that makes her eyes disappear. She would look so much better if she’d allow herself to gain ten pounds….it might soften the angularity of her face. That said, I think with all the crap she pulled with Kim Cattrell, SJP has a bad case of “karma face”

      • Trashaddict says:

        Skip the bun, too. OMG.

      • Jussie says:

She has a lot of very, very deep lines and a lot of sagging around her eyes. It makes her look significantly older than 53, and this is her way of disguising that. As bad as the makeup is she does look at least 10 years younger with it.

Celine Dion has the same issue and she often wears dark heavy eye makeup to conceal it too. She has much bigger eyes though, so it doesn’t look nearly so bad.

    • INeedANap says:

They look cute, comfortable, and appropriately dressed.

Although I am confused — in the title of the post the girls are referred to as Tabitha and Marion, but SJP refers to them as Tabitha and Loretta??

      • Michelle says:

I think Loretta is the nanny.

      • katie3 says:

        noticed that too….

      • CuteChef says:

Loretta is Marion’s middle name. I guess she’s choosing to go by that over her first? Or SJP did. I remember that from years ago, as I’m not far from where her gestational carrier lived. Maybe a little more than an hour north. It was a big to do around this side of Ohio at the time…once people found out about it.

      • Grace says:

I believe SJP and Matthew Broderick have said they let James Wilkie pick one of the twin’s names and he was going through a Robin Hood phase, so he picked Marion after Maid Marion. I’m guessing Loretta was the parent’s pick, so that’s what she goes by. I still think it was sweet to let him have input.

  2. CadiC says:

One of the twins, the taller one, looks a lot like James Wilkie.

  3. KeWest says:

Nice to be a child and tell your parent which school you want to go too.

    • Lala says:

I told my Mama what school I wanted to go to as a child…I figured I WOULD have to be there all day…she wouldn’t…just had to have a good argument for my decision…and she bought it! One of my FAVORITE memories regarding her!

      • KeWest says:

You were lucky to have the opportunity.

Not everyone with three kids would be able to accommodate going to multiple schools.

      • LT says:

Glad it worked out for you – that wouldn’t fly in my house. I have three kids and I specifically told them they would attend the same school because there was NO WAY I was going to shuttle them to different schools. It also meant that when two private schools accepted only one child (one school took my eldest and not my younger, the other took the younger and not the eldest), we left those schools and didn’t even consider schools that wouldn’t take them all. We finally ended up at an excellent public school that accommodated everyone (which they have to…by law). I have a good friend with twins. One got accepted into one of the top ranked schools in the US and the other did not. She said, “buh-bye, we are a package deal.” The school couldn’t believe they turned down their prestigious admission!

    • Birdix says:

More common in nyc for siblings to go to different schools, for better and worse, because of the intense entrance requirements of many schools.

      • Lala says:

I was like Francine in “A Tree Grows In Brooklyn”…I had to get up early and make my way to school…while my little sister went to the school around the corner…and I had to get home by myself…and I BETTER NOT BE LATE! I was 10 years old…taking the CTA…thank GAWD it was back in the 70s…and I NEVER had an incident and ALWAYS had the same bus drivers…that would NEVER happen today!

      • T.Fanty says:

Many of my friends have elementary aged kids in different schools. It makes the mornings a special kind of hell.

      • Esmom says:

Yeah, Chicago too. I don’t think it’s overindulgence or permissiveness to give your young kids a say in where they want to go to school.

      • liz says:

It’s very common among NYC private schools for siblings, particularly twins, to be in different schools. Some of it is because the families want single sex educations for their kids. With twins, it’s often about allowing them to develop as individuals with their own personalities and interests. And yes, some of it is simply Annie got into Dalton, but Jessie didn’t. Going through the admissions process with twins, the parents are always asked if they are willing to separate the kids – saying “no” makes it more likely that both kids will be rejected.

Yes, it makes morning commutes complicated. That said, you are talking about families that are paying around $50,000 per child per year, after taxes. They can afford to find a way to make it work.

For the NYC public schools, siblings are usually separated at the middle school level. Very few public middle schools have sibling preferences and while the City has to find a place for each child, they do not have to place siblings together (the presumption is that by 6th grade, kids are able to commute on their own).

    • knotslaning says:

It is actually common in NYC to go to different schools. My kids will start different schools in a year, and my oldest is choosing her school. Middle and HS are very different here and you have to apply (like college) to schools and get accepted. Usually by middle we let our kids (with their mates) take public transport to school every day so we don’t have to make multiple trips to multiple schools.
I get they are wealthy and probably have a team of people shuffling kids around but the school system is different here than most.

    • Bananapanda says:

That’s an NYC thing. Some kids switch schools around 6th grade and stay through high school. I imagine when they were interviewing/visiting private schools the girls naturally liked different schools (I.e. More formal or arty).

  4. Birdix says:

Yeah for City Ballet! Out here in San Francisco we’re at the tail end of a new works festival. One ballet has music by Bjork and costumes by Marco Marco (Marco Morante). It was the first time Bjork’s given the rights to her entire catalog—happened because SF Ballet’s director Helgi Tomasson, who is also Icelandic, called up Bjork’s dad. 🙂
It’s called Bjork Ballet—costumes/sets are amazing.

    • Lala says:

That…sounds…like….HEAVEN!!!!! When I think of the beautiful dances that could be developed around “All is full of love…” SIGH!!!

  5. Astrid says:

The girls are cute as buttons! but I’m not sure what SJP is trying to achieve with her look

  6. lightpurple says:

What a lovely mother-daughters moment that she gets to share with them something she loves so much and that they are interested in joining her for it. I like her dress. I NEED those shoes.

  7. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Is this damage control for the recent and ongoing Kim Catrall hubbub?

    • Betsy says:

I completely believe what Kaiser said, about this being age appropriate and a cute activity, but I can’t help but agree with you.

      • Ally says:

This was my first thought, too, because I’m celebitchy, clearly.

She’s wheeling out two little human shields to rehab her woman-friendly image.

Just think: they could be filming another ludicrous ladies-who-lunch-and-spend tone-deaf catastrophe. Instead, Cynthia Nixon is up to run the state and schooling Cuomo on real progressive action in the process. Priorities, SJP, priorities.

      • minx says:

        Agree.
The girls look cute. I don’t really care for SJP’s dress, too suburban mom. I like the shoes though. Her makeup is bad, as usual.

    • Cher says:

      I totally agree with.

  8. AnotherDirtyMartini says:

I actually love her dress and heels. And her daughters are cuties.

  9. Becks says:

The girls are adorable and I think SJP looks great….minus the makeup. Hair looks good, and her outfit is really cute.

  10. KBeth says:

    Girls are super cute.

  11. Anastasia says:

Stop with the water line eyeliner, SJP. Please.

    The girls are ridiculously adorable!

  12. L84Tea says:

I’m just happy to see that her daughters look and dress like normal little girls and not like Olsen twins.

    • Jess says:

My thoughts exactly. They look lovely and their outfits are age appropriate.

  13. homeslice says:

    The girls are adorable!

  14. Elsie says:

I have twins and they go to the same school but are in different sections. In Italy the school generally suggests this for twins during the admission process. Two schools seem complicated but then again it’s not that SJP needs to be at work by 9…

  15. Svea says:

    Girl’s “refreshed.”

  16. Retty says:

I love that they call her Loretta, there aren’t many of us Loretta’s around.

    • Coraline says:

I prefer her first name Marion, Marion is a beautiful french name I don’t get why Sarah chose the name Marion is she’s not going to call her daughter by that name at all.

  17. SJhere says:

I love how her girls are dressed. Mom and girls are so pretty in the Spring outfits.
SJP certainly needs a makeover, her hair/eye makeup are awful.
    That’s all I’ve got.

  18. Scarlett says:

The cross body bags look off, SJP definitely in damage control.

  19. Penelope says:

Love the way the girls are dressed.

  20. HeyThere! says:

After reading comments on here about 50k a year schools, applying every year with every child and kids going to different schools….I have never been more thankful to live in a smaller town(than NYC) that has great free public schools and amazing, inexpensive private schools. I can’t imagine how stressful applying and all that is on parents and kids. I didn’t even know that was a thing?! Kind of in shock.

  21. Vegramen says:

Cute kids but this is damage control.

  22. bella says:

I think the twins looks adorable and I love SJP’s dress; she looks lovely as well. The eye makeup is definitely not as ham handed–baby steps.
