Meghan Markle & her mom will ‘travel by car’ to Windsor Castle for the wedding

Gah! There’s so much dumb royal wedding news. Let’s start with the new issue of Parade, which is probably just a hype piece to get Americans excited about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in general, with no big revelations. I mean, most of the quotes in this piece are from Katie “I Got A Tip Meghan Will Wear A Wedding Gown!” Nicholl. Let’s see…

The Dress? “Meghan wants lace,” says royals expert and UK author Katie Nicholl, who says that the royal bride-to-be wants her gown to be “traditional because she’s marrying against the very regal and historic backdrop [of] Windsor Castle.”

The Price Tag? The celebration is expected to cost an estimated £32 million ($45 million), with the majority of that dedicated to security costs.

The Tiara? If Meghan Markle wears a tiara, it could be the Lotus Flower, worn by the Queen Mother when she was Duchess of York. The Queen Mum later gave it to her daughter Princess Margaret. At the 1981 wedding of Lady Diana Spencer and Charles, Prince of Wales, Diana wore a diamond-encrusted family heirloom tiara that was so heavy, it gave her a headache.

The Train? Diana’s was 25 feet long (and got crushed in her glass coach ride to St. Paul’s Cathedral). Kate’s was a modest nine feet long. Meghan’s train: Our royal watchers are predicting that her dress may not feature a train at all.

The news-to-me is that Meghan might not have a train. That’s interesting. I also tend to NOT believe that Meghan will be given the Lotus Flower tiara, but I could be wrong. I feel like there are probably some other, rarely-seen, smaller tiaras which the Queen will give Meghan.

As for the other royal wedding news… Kensington Palace and Poor Jason just did an enormous news dump when they released this statement. It’s now confirmed by KP that Meghan’s father and mother will join her at the wedding. Meghan and her mom “travel by car” to Windsor Castle on the morning of the wedding, and Meghan’s father will walk her down the aisle. Meghan’s parents will be there several days beforehand, and Poor Jason notes that the Windsors are eager to “spend time” with them. Harry has invited a lot of members of the Spencer family and they’ll be included in the wedding too. There’s a lot of additional information in KP’s statement – they even used the word “KEEN” so you know it’s authentic – but it’s mostly about parking and travel and stuff.

I’m just here for the tiaras!

  2. klutzy_girl says:

I need to know about the dress and tiara!

  3. Toot says:

I like that Meghan is making sure her mother also gets a moment at the wedding. The car ride over makes sense, and then her father can walk her down the aisle.

    • PrincessK says:

Absolutely, a very nice touch that she is giving her mother this role in going with her in the car to the Chapel and for her father to walk her up the aisle.

  4. Maria says:

I hope she doesn’t wear a train nor a veil, or if she wears one, she keeps it away from her face the way they do it in Scandivian countries.

    • notasugarhere says:

I’m trying to remember if any other European royal brides wore a veil over their faces recently and cannot think of any. Maria-Teresa of Lux but that was 35 years ago.

It seems mostly the BRF who continue to wear the veil over the face (Diana, Fergie, Sophie, Lady Helen Windsor, Kate, Zara, Autumn Kelly). Princess Anne and Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones are the only ones I can find who didn’t.

      • Maria says:

@Nota I’m surprised that Princess Anne wore a veil off her face in 1973. I thought that was more recent.

  5. Becks says:

I would be really surprised if it was the lotus flower because Kate has worn that in public (she has only worn three tiaras publicly I think – the Cartier one from her wedding day, the Lotus flower and the Cambridge Lovers knot, right? Someone will correct me I’m sure lol.) So I would be surprised if Meghan picks that one. I actually think the Cartier halo tiara would look lovely on Meghan and its not a super overwhelming tiara, but since Kate wore that for her wedding day Meghan definitely won’t.

I’m glad the palace cleared up the gossip re: her parents. I always thought it was obvious her dad would be invited – they seem to be on decent terms (who knows whether they are on “good” terms but there doesn’t seem to be bad blood?) so it makes sense he would be invited. Walking down the aisle is a different story but KP says that will happen so there you go.

    • notasugarhere says:

HM chooses the tiara, the bride doesn’t. She tends to only have one person wear the tiara in recent memory, so Lotus, Cartier, Lovers Knot are all unlikely. Plus the Cartier Halo is on exhibit in Australia right now. Leaves plenty of other options but we won’t know until the day.

    • Merritt says:

If Queen Mary’s Lozenge Tiara still exists, I think it would be perfect for Meghan on her wedding day.

      • Jag says:

Merrit, that would be a perfect tiara for her! I’m actually wanting to see what they pick now. lol

  6. Clare says:

Anyone want to guess who has the honour of paying the security costs?

For the wedding that the family is paying for ‘themselves’

    • notasugarhere says:

6,000 people showed up to Zara and Mike Tindall’s completely private, not televised wedding. Were the police just not supposed to show up?

Believe it or not, there are people who like the BRF, are monarchists, and want to show up at their events and cheer. The security reflects that and is funded by the taxpayers. The consequences of security not being there would be enormous.

      • Clare says:

LOL all true Nota – but none of them at changes the fact that a) tens of millions of tax ‘dollars’ are being spent on this wedding while the nhs is literally falling to shit in places due to lack of funding and b) the Royal family keep trying to convince us that *they* are paying for this wedding. I’m not contesting that people are interested – ofcourse they are – just commenting on the false narrative that this shit doesn’t cost tax payers loads of money.

Also still chuckling at how the plebs have been invited to stand outside the wedding for hours to catch a glimpse of the couple- being sold as some kind of amazing altruistic move.

But everything you say is totally true so no argument there. I think we are just commenting on two separate issues

      • notasugarhere says:

The Windsors are paying for the wedding itself, not the security. That isn’t a lie but certainly a convenient (for the Windsors) truth.

Until they’re voted out, this is the way it is. The public needs to keep pushing, holding them accountable, demanding receipts. Stop letting the royals hide behind waivers from Freedom of Information requests. It is possible to keep the monarchy if that form of government is desired; it does not require anywhere near what it currently costs.

      • notasugarhere says:

        duplicate

      • millions of dollars of taxpayer money are going to be spent for FA cup, other sporting events, concerts for security. @ Clare why is this different.
Taxpayers pay the cost of security for any event with large crowds.

  7. Merritt says:

I doubt she will wear the Lotus Flower Tiara. That has been loaned to Kate and the BRF isn’t big on sharing tiaras.

  8. Cher says:

I am looking forward to this wedding more and more. Bring it!

  9. Adele Dazeem says:

I’m excited but concerned about the gown. Meghan’s fashion choices have been ‘off’ lately—acclimation jitters?! Crossing a little too far into Kate territory in my opinion. And I hope she does something not too overwhelming for her tiny delicate figure.

  10. Pandy says:

I can’t wait to see THE DRESS!!!! I’m betting she doesn’t do a big train either. Maybe a little two footer swirling around her. She’s not passing herself off as a blushing virgin bride. I’m sure ti will be beautiful though.

  11. Aurelia says:

Hope her so called stylist pal has nothing to do with the wwedding dress choice. Agreed, her style has been really off since getting engaged. Maghan had better style before she ever dated harry. Hope the dres suits her short waist. Because what she has been wearing lately doesn’t.
