January Jones wanted to have her b-day party at Pump, but they wouldn’t call her back

Jennifer Lawrence is far from the only A-lister who openly enjoys sh-tty reality programming, although J-Law might be the most vocal. There are tons of A-list celebrities who admit to enjoying The Bachelor/Bachelorette franchises. And like J-Law, there are tons of celebrities who love the Bravo reality programming, from the Real Housewives to the spinoff shows, like Vanderpump Rules. Vanderpump Rules follows the comings and goings of the staff of SUR and Pump, the popular restaurants owned by Lisa Vanderpump and her husband. I would say that the show is trash, but I’ve honestly never sat down and watched more than a few minutes. I do know that Rihanna loves it and Jennifer Lawrence loves it too. They both worship Lisa Vanderpump. And as it turns out, January Jones is also a mega-fan. January is such a fan, she wanted to have her 40th birthday party at Pump. Only no one would call her back.

As a proud watcher of Vanderpump Rules, January has visited Lisa Vanderpump’s restaurants. The Mad Men alum even tried to have her 40th birthday bash at Pump earlier this year, but they totally rejected her — despite having an in with Bravo’s Andy Cohen. And, no, she didn’t stand for that.

“I had my 40th birthday this year and I called Pump to try to do my party there,” Jones, whose birthday was Jan. 5, tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “No one called me back.” So she stepped up her game. “My publicist called. My best friend called. We called and called and called and called,” she continues. “It was over the holidays, but still. No one responded.”

And it wasn’t a voicemail-into-the-abyss situation. She actually spoke to humans. “One time I called, I got a girl and she’s like: ‘We’ll call you back.’ Nothing. I called back again, no response.” She even texted Cohen, king of the Real Housewives, and got the general manager’s number, but “the guy wouldn’t call me back.”

Needless to say, a gal can’t wait forever. She had to move on. But she made sure they were aware that they made a mistake.

“Around New Year’s, I was going out to dinner and I said: ‘You know what, I’m going into Pump,’” she recalls with a laugh. “I walked in there and I was like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. I was like: ‘Tried to call ya. Guess what: I’m not having my birthday party here. Big mistake. Big. Huge.’” That got some attention for sure. “They were like, ‘What? I’m so sorry. OMG. We can arrange it.’ I said: ‘Too late. Already having it at a different venue.’ So I was like peeved at them,” she says.

After suggesting that maybe they should throw her an epic half birthday in July for free, Jones agreed that’d be a good idea. “Yes, they owe me,” she laughs. “So to answer your question, yes, I’ve been to Pump many times, and Sur, but way before [Vanderpump Rules started to air in 2013]. And, yeah, I tried to have a birthday party there.”

Is this what Vanderpump Rules is like? If so, I would watch it. I would watch it if an entire season was devoted to Pump staffers ghosting January Jones, then being told off by January Jones, then trying to make it up to January Jones by giving her a free “half-birthday” party in July. I would watch the sh-t out of that. But I don’t think that’s what the show is? I’m pretty sure the show is mostly about how they’re moving a lot of “pasta” out of those restaurants.

Anyway, poor January. She’s probably not considered A-list anymore, but she’s a very solid B-list and if she wanted to have her birthday party at Pump, they should have called her back! I hate rude restaurant people.

Not to mention the food is AWFUL at Pump and Sur, so they should really be taking advantage of every publicity opportunity while they still can.

    • MissMarierose says:

I remember an article on Jezebel several years ago where a couple of writers who are big fans of the show went to Sur and/or Pump to do a review. They mentioned that the service was crap and the food was terrible. Clearly, nothing has changed.

How on earth do they stay in business? Is it just catering to tourists who watch the show?

      • SKF says:

I remember that article! It was hilarious! The way they described it I just cannot believe that those places are still successful.

    • Brian says:

It’s nothing to write home about. I haven’t been to Sur, but I’ve been to PUMP several times. Staff is rude (but then again it’s LA so everyone is sometype of self-important wannabe actor).

The more I “get to know her” (obviously, I don’t know her), the more I really like January Jones. I think she’s hilarious.

  3. Enny says:

You don’t ghost Betty Draper. WTF.

    • aaa says:

Now you’ve done it, now I want to see January Jones walk up to Lisa Vanderpump and slap her.

  4. Lala says:

That’s bad business AND customer service…PERIOD…

  5. Marie says:

I love it when celebrities are just shameless of their love of trashy shows. Makes them more human.

  6. Reef says:

She seems so bland but baybeee…I eagerly await January Jones memoir in 15 years.

    • Enny says:

She dated Ashton Kutcher, worked with Jon Hamm, and has a baby with a secret identity. That’s not even factoring in the shady whatever it was with Bobby Flay. Grabbing the popcorn…

Seriously, Jan, call me. We are soul sisters!

  7. Lama Bean says:

WHAT is she wearing in that last photo?

    • Carol says:

LOL! That was my reaction to that pic too. I love me some JJ. But it looks like she jumped out of the shower, grabbed some dirty clothes from the hamper and called it a day.

  8. bella says:

I think she is so gorgeous and can’t imagine why Mad Men didn’t catapult her into the A list??? Her fashion style is not that great (read: horrible!), and she should have the customer designer from Mad Men dress her, (Janie Bryant)–ALL THE TIME! Seriously!!!

    • Happy21 says:

She was breathtaking in Mad Men and was perfect as the beautiful housewife. The styling on that show was A++

    • ladida says:

I think it’s because she’s known to be difficult to work with. That said, I’m a huge fan.

      • shiba says:

There is scuttlebut that because JJ didn’t ‘play ball’ with her showrunner, rumors were spread about her being difficult…plus season FatBetty.

      • tealily says:

Are you serious, shiba? I’ve never heard that! Now I’m fuming!!

    • Brian says:

She’s a terrible actress. Betty Draper worked because the character was cold and reticent, but Unknown, X-Men: First Class. Girl can’t act . I like her though, but not enough to spend my money on her acting appearances.

  9. Muprhy says:

Someone needs to call in and ask about this next time LVP is on WWHL

  10. Andress says:

January Jones is a certified (and self-publicized) alcoholic drunkard. No one owes her a thing except to make sure she arrives home safely, should they serve her.

I read RealityTea and eventually decided that Lisa VDP sounds like my kinda beyotch, so I posted on Twitter “Thinking about bingeing Vanderpump Rules. What say you, internet?” and holy crap, I was inundated. Apparently it’s a MUST SEE. I just got a new cable package that includes Bravo on demand, so I’ll binge it when I have some time.

Long ago in the mists of time I used to live in that world, so it’d be sorta nostalgic to watch this. I used to work for the biggest social club in Western Canada, and we did glam events at all kinds of glam venues.

Vanderpump Rules is one of the best reality shows on TV.
It has nothing to do with the food!
It’s all about the relationships among the restaurant staff, they all hang out, drink and party together and screw each other over, lots of cheating and 20-something drama.
    It’s juicy as heck.
I recommend watching it from the very first season so that you have all the context.
    It is a delight!
