Tracee Ellis Ross was in Catholic Cardinal pink I guess, in Michael Kors. That’s about the only tie-in I can think of to the theme, other than the robe element. I love Tracee and her 50s styling is fab, but I feel like we’ve seen her in formfitting sequin dresses with belts so many times before. That ruffled cape is so cool and look at how much fun she’s having.
Donald Glover said during his E! red carpet interview that he was looking forward to seeing Tracee and that he always had a good time with her. It shows! He’s trying to keep a straight face here.

Issa Rae was also in Michael Kors, in a mermaid black and gold brocade gown with a deep v-neck. I really like the folded rosettes at the shoulders, I’ve never seen that done before. Her styling is so pretty.
Yara Shahidi was in Chanel and I didn’t see much of theme in her princessy beige dress. It’s so weird to see a gown with a split tiered ruffled skirt like that. That element doesn’t make sense to me at all. Her headpiece is cool though.
Yara’s dress homages the knights Templar, I think.
Oh cool. That’s really interesting, thanks. I think they all look great, the only thing I’d change is a little less eyeliner on Tracy. I understand the look, though and that dress and cape!
Ha! I thought she looked like a First Communion girl with that little fascinator. Issa’s make up looks beautiful. Not feeling her dress so much. DEFINITELY not feeling Tracee’s look. Bad make up, bad dress. A bit surprised.
Issa’s earrings were fantastic. That dress looked lovely on her when she moved.
I do not think the shade of pink in Tracee’s dress is correct if you want to be on theme with the catholic church. It is too barbi. And the hair is really bad. Bummer.
No, it’s not the right shade. Neither cardinal’s red not bishop’s purple. I do enjoy Yara’s dress a lot though, I just wish she’d worn different shoes.
She normally looks so radiant and on point. There’s nothing I like about her look, or any of the looks on these beautiful people here.
I saw Tracee and thought she was doing a homage to her Mama…circa 1965!!!! Issa looked…GLORIOUS…and so did Yara!!!!
I think she paid homage to the theme with the robe, which is beautiful in that pink, which the color is also a reference to the Catholic Church. I like that she popped a color. I don’t like everyone being too samey samey in how they reference the theme. So her look works for me. And if that’s the style gown that she feels most beautiful in and confident, I have no problem with that.
The hair is a hot mess, though.
Catholic Bishops conference, and they are all in pink.

Maybe it is a comment on the Catholic Church being stuck in the conservative 50s? Then I like it (13 years of Catholic school here, I can say that). I love Tracee but, I wanted more theme from her.
Rose is a liturgical color usually associated with Gaudete Sunday and Laetare Sunday. She is using the reference perfectly with that dress.
Tracee always looks beautiful but this is too much pink for me.
I love Tracee’s look. I wouldn’t have gotten the reference to cardinal pink.
I normally love her but this is boring. I am not liking her styling either.
I love that color and I like the dress but wish the robe was a different color..maybe white? I also dislike the heavy black eyeliner…looks so amateur. Issa makes gold and black look so good. Not easy to do.
Yara is such a beautiful young woman. I really like how structured her dress is..she looks lovely.
Issa lost so much weight! it really suits her. I recently rewatched season 1 of insecure and the difference is very noticeable
Yara’s dress somehow reminds me immediately to the Las Meninas painting…. and therefore the er Spanish Inquisition, lol.
Tracee’s outfit and styling are horrible. I usually love everything she wears and she always looks flawless and gorgeous but this is just a travesty. It’s like MK intentionally styled her to look ghastly. So disappointing as I was really looking forward to seeing how she would approach this theme.
Tracee Ellis Ross looks like Gaudete Sunday and I seriously love it. Rose is a liturgically correct color, and she is using it in the perfect way.
Yara is so beautiful. Her show Grown•ish is AMAZING….the spin off of my other favorite show Black•ish!!! Tracee looks great. I have to say this is my favorite theme ever!
I love Issa Rae’s dress and it looks great on her.
I love Yara’s gown. It looks amazing on her. Her shoes, makeup, headpiece, all are perfect.
I like Tracee’s dress but don’t get how it goes with the theme. She looks beautiful in it.
Issa Rae is gorgeous, as usual.
Ellis Ross needs a bit more work in the ambiguity department of “heavenly bodies”: we get it that she has a killer body but what about the religious/spiritual connection? Or mock it at least like Claire Danes husband who wore monkeys on his suit in order to point out that man is just a monkey and evolution theory and everything.
Tracee is a liiiiittle disappointing here. I mean, it’s a fantastic silhouette, but it’s not on theme.
D. Glover is looking sharp as always, as is Issa (I can’t wait for the next season of Insecure) and Yara is gorgeous- but other than the veil, I’m not sure this is hitting it.
Tracee looks stunning! What a gorgeous color on her!
