Kate Bosworth in Oscar de la Renta at the Met Gala: morose, saint-like?

Kate Bosworth was in Oscar de la Renta last night, in reams of beige tulle topped by a veil lined with pearls. Her styling made her look saint-like and I love it. She’s nailing the look too, she must have practiced so hard at home. I often forget that Kate has heterochroma, where one eye is a different color than the other, and you can really see it here.

Here are Pharrell Williams and Helen Lasichanh in Chanel, and Helen is rocking that neon hair that we also saw on Cara Delevingne and Adwoa Aboah. Call me simple-minded, but I enjoy these direct interpretations of the theme with all the crosses and liturgical robes.

In contrast Claire Danes doesn’t look on theme at all in a colorblock empire waist Marni gown. I guess she gets a pregnancy pass though. In the thumbnails I thought her date was her husband, Hugh Dancy, dressed like an 80s rapper for some reason, but that Slim Shady-looking guy in the suit with a monkey print is their creative director, Francesco Risso.

Urgh no – it looks like a wedding dress that ran away from the divorce party.

  2. Jegede says:

Like that outfit and lol @ the header picture.

In every shot I’ve seen of Kate Bosworth at this event, she’s had on a melancholic face.
    Deliberate?
It’s almost as if she’s channelling a celestial portrait.

    • Esmom says:

Agree. I think it’s deliberate. And I know some people are into that but she bugs me. Irrational, I know, but I just find her extra in her fashionista-ness.

    • Bridget says:

Well, it’s not like she’s got that much going on, posing on the carpet is pretty much her job now.

  3. WingKingdom says:

Kate stood out to me- she looks great.

As for Claire, why pay $30,000 for a ticket just to wear the same thing you’d wear on any regular red carpet?

  4. Bridget says:

Kate slapped a veil on to her look and posed extra hard – that doesn’t make her super thematic.

Claire doesn’t usually do the theme anyhow. She usually just wears a nice dress and that’s it.

  5. lightpurple says:

    Kate’s whole ensemble was beautiful.

According to my 89 year old great aunt, those boots Helen is wearing are what many nuns used to wear with their habits.

  6. Merritt says:

Kate Bosworth just looks like a drugged up bride in a dated dress.

  7. Jess says:

Pharell and Helen are the best!! always admired their styling

  8. Kitten says:

Did Kate actually gain a bit of weight finally? She looks good.

Love Pharrell and Helen. I normally have no patience for the Met gala but I have to admit that I’m enjoying most of the looks this year.

    • Esmom says:

I’ve also noticed lately that she looks less skeletal.

Pharrell’s and Helen’s are among my favorite looks. I’ve enjoyed checking the looks out, too.

      • Ada says:

Yes! Pharrell and Helen are amazing and I love how their looks mirror and enhance each other.

    • lucy2 says:

I thought Kate looked good too. I find her super annoying, but she does look healthy and her look was on point here.

  9. Alexandria says:

A plus for effort and execution Kate. Normally she bores me.

  10. B says:

    Trying too hard.

    • ValiantlyVarnished says:

It’s the Met Gala hun. You’re SUPPOSED to try hard. It’s a theme party.

      • CairinaCat says:

I don’t understand why people are bashing some for being try hards… It’s literally a costume party. The fanciest in existence.
They are supposed too try hard, this is the one time it’s ok and expected :p

  11. knotslaning says:

She nailed the theme and is killing it. She looks gorgeous!

  12. ValiantlyVarnished says:

Loved Kate’s look. As for Claire I am calling cop out. Cardi B is 8 months pregnant and went full tilt with the theme. Claire didn’t even try.

    • kittyhawk says:

I wonder if some of the people in non-theme dresses had something else they were going to wear but decided at the last minute they hated it and grabbed something out of their closet.

  13. Anastasia says:

I kind of don’t like the ones that are SO on point, with the crosses and the really super obvious imagery. I like the ones who had to think a little harder and went a bit more subtle but are still on theme.

  14. Malibu Stacy says:

Claire Danes doesn’t really get a pass though. Cardi B is heavily pregnant and she slayed the theme!

  15. Tiffany says:

I love Helen, she is just a stunning woman. And there is no way they should be at shoulder level with one another. Pharrell is wearing lifts.

    HA….HAHAHAHHAHA…..HAHAHAHAH!!!!

    *falls out chair*

  16. tracking says:

I loved Kate’s veil, hair, and makeup, thought the dress was fine.

  17. Lucy says:

Pharrell and Helen (Helen esp) always bring it.

  18. Grinning mama bear says:

Big robes are back: times are getting conservative and authoritarian again. No love from me.

Kate Bosworth: Holy Mary? Side parting curtains? Seriously? Looks more like a carneval costume to me, tbh.

    Claire Danes and husband
I think Dancy made a statement on behalf of the evolution theory: there are monkeys on his suit. He criticises the biblical ideas of creation(ism). Nice one.
Claire Danes: red and lilac/violet/purple. Daring combination and totally papal colours. Papal colours and evolution theory suit walk the red carpet hand in hand. Nice one. ;-D

  19. Sara says:

Why is Kate Bosworth at all relevant?

  20. savu says:

I HATED the hair. Dear god. Something about it makes me crazy!
