Clayne Crawford was fired from Fox’s ‘Lethal Weapon’ after violent incidents

FOX Fall Premiere Party

Clayne Crawford was the star of the very popular TV show Lethal Weapon, based on the popular film franchise starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. Clayne played the Riggs character. Last month, we suddenly learned that Clayne is a massive douchebag, a dude with a lot of privilege and a violent, tantrumy streak. Sources told the trade papers that Clayne had been involved in multiple incidents where people got physically hurt, or where Clayne exhibited a nasty hair-trigger temper. After those stories came out, Clayne offered a bullsh-t apology which basically amounted to “I’m sorry I violently care so much about my job.” Well, now he doesn’t have a job. Just hours before the season finale premiered on Fox, producers fired Clayne.

Fox and producers are scrambling to save Lethal Weapon. Multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that troubled star Clayne Crawford has been fired from the Fox procedural and studio Warner Bros. Television has been scrambling to find an actor to replace him.

Sources say multiple actors have been offered the role for a potential third season and have passed as the process continues ahead of Fox’s upfront presentation to Madison Avenue ad buyers on Monday. Fox and WBTV declined comment.

Good. Cast another white dude and get on with it. Or better yet, kill off the Riggs character and hire a woman to be Murtaugh’s partner. Damon Wayans Jr. plays Murtaugh and he has chemistry with pretty much everyone he works with – hire literally any woman and they’ll have off-the-charts chemistry.

Clayne spent hours last night tweeting about how he was fired and re-tweeting messages of support.

    Another douche bites the dust.

  2. HelloSunshine says:

I assumed he must have gotten physical with someone. He ended up paying someone and I imagine that he wouldn’t have done that ifir was just verbal (not that verbal isnt as awful as physical, both are terrible).

His posts and retweet’s of support are gross though. But he’s a white guy.. so he’ll take a year off and bounce back I’m sure 🙄

    • Bridget says:

One of the incidents was with Damon Wayans, and it completely killed any semblance of their working relationship.

  3. S says:

It’s actually Damon Wayons Sr, not Jr., but I’d actually start watching Lethal Weapon if they cast Eliza Coupe in the role. 😄

    • lucy2 says:

I always thought it was Jr too, until this story came out and I realized it was Sr. He’s a jerk too.
I’d love Jr. and Eliza in a show together again, they were both so good and cute together on Happy Endings.

      • raincoaster says:

When the elder dies, the younger, who used to be Jr, becomes Sr. That’s how Jr/Sr works. I/II/III doesn’t work that way.

      • S says:

Except … The actor this story features, from Lethal Weapon (tv series), is Damon Wayans Sr, while his son, Damon Wayans Jr, was the actor from Happy Endings and New Girl. They are different people, and Damon Wayans Sr is still very much alive, as is Jr.

    • Marie says:

I miss HE so much. Damon and Eliza were the perfect couple.

    • hogtowngooner says:

Yes!!! Brad and Jane were relationship GOALS.

The show isn’t groundbreaking but it’s entertaining, mostly because of Wayans. But it does not do a bad job representing groups other than white men. So I’m not mad that there’s a white guy in the lead (one of them). They just need to find someone who has chemistry with Wayans, man or woman.

  5. Cerys says:

That’s a shame as I love that programme. However I didn’t know anything about the actor who plays Riggs and his real-life issues. Hope they find a way of continuing the programme without losing its appeal.

  6. Taxi says:

Too bad for Crawford. I like what has appeared to be the nice chemistry between Wayans & Crawford. This show has managed to include humor, which is good because procedure is a bit weak. I like Kevin Rahm too.

  7. girl_ninja says:

This show is actually fun, well acted and well written. It would be cool if they cast a person of color in the role.

  8. lucy2 says:

I’m guessing if this story hadn’t gotten out, he’d still have his job. But either way, glad they removed him if he was that bad.

  9. Margo S. says:

    What a giant, unemployed, loser.

  10. bitchy architect says:

is it just me-i totally thought this was a trans f2m. Not that that excuses violence but maybe testosterone shots are making him crazy….

  11. Franklymydear... says:

Man, I really love this show. It’s my stupid, guilty pleasure. And I suppose Crawford is an ass but I really liked him on the show. I think he was just the right amount of charming lunatic who always seemed a little boozy but sweet. Bummer.

  12. LIB says:

Woah, they should hire a asian trans disable woman!

  13. DesertReal says:

I’ve never watched an episode of this show, but I nominate an In Living Color reunion, and have Jim Carey take his place.

  14. raincoaster says:

Very glad to read this. He has two expressions: confused and smirking. And he’s not that decorative.

    His moustache is asymmetrical, too.
