Madonna and Mercy spotted outside the Kabbalah centre on Saturday

Madonna was seen giving her newly adopted daughter, Mercy James, 4, a piggy back ride outside the Kabbalah center in London on Saturday. Reports vary as to Mercy’s age, but she definitely looks 4 or older. She’s a cutie and looks like a sweet little girl. You can understand why Madonna was so adamant about giving her a home. Mercy looked a little bewildered when she first arrived in London, but she seems comfortable and happy with Madonna and is probably getting used to her new situation.

The 50 year-old pop singer was also seen out at dinner last week holding a portable nebulizer, which is used to administer medication as a fine mist. It is likely that she was using it to treat and/or preserve her voice ahead of her concert tour this summer. Madonna will play 24-cities in a 2 month tour that starts this weekend in London, on July 4.

Madonna has expressed her grief at the death of Michael Jackson. She issued a statement that she “can’t stop crying over the sad news,” and that her “heart goes out to his three children and other members of his family.” Madonna’s official website, Madonna.com, has also been updated with a large photo of her with Jackson at the 1991 Oscars. It’s got to be hard to see one of your old friends and contemporaries pass like that.

Mercy is a very luck little girl. I only hope that the Hollywood lifestyle she will be living doesn’t spoil her and make her want to bleach her skin or have a nose job.

  2. waldemar says:

    They look cute together.

  3. HEB says:

Maritza–I don’t think we have to worry about that with any of Madonna’s children–she simply won’t stand for it, thus Lourdes is rocking the unibrow.

  4. Tazina says:

Madonna would have continued her work in Malawi irregardless of whether the adoption had been approved or not. She did not “buy” Mercy. She is giving her a family and a better life instead of her growing up in an orphanage where she had no visits from her biological relatives. They only showed interest once Madonna was on the scene.

  5. Zoe (The Other One) says:

    Cute baby.

  6. geronimo says:

    She is a little cutie.

  7. barneslr says:

Ah, pictures of the kidnapper and her victim. How vile.

  8. Wow says:

Is it just me, because this little girl doesn’t look like the other pictures we saw of Mercy from before? She couldn’t have changed THAT much in such a short time, could she?

This little girl looks different to me a bit. Maybe the previous pictures were older pictures of Mercy and not to recent.

Anyway, she looks happy and I assume she’s adjusting good to her new surrounding. I’m glad she has Lourdes for a sister because Lourdes might be more stable than their Mom.

  9. princess pee says:

Wow – I think the one major picture we saw (the glowy one where everyone is frowning except Madonna and Mercy is sleeping on her lap) was at least 1.5 years ago. I think it was from her earlier visits, around the time she brought David home.

  10. Cindy says:

Tazina, showing up occasionally for photo ops and writing a check now and then isn’t work, “irregardless” isn’t a word, and Madonna totally bought that little girl.

After the officials denied her demands to take Mercy out of Malawi, she kicked her manipulative tactics into high gear and began to wine and dine them and hand over “personal gifts” (ie: cash) to bribe them into overruling the original decision.

Madonna’s only motivations for anything are control and fame. She behaves like a spoiled child whenever anyone dares to stand up to her.

    “irregardless” isn’t a word…

thank you cindy. god that bugs me.

  12. james o^shea says:

When you sanctimonious people who do nothing to make this world a better place sit their and criticize people who actively donate their time and resoources, open their homes and hearts for the less fortunate make dumb ass comments it sets us 10 steps back.

Madonna does not need to adopt a child for publicity… media whores are more interested in who she sleeps with than who she feeds… so STFU .. I mean u Cindy with your worthless insight.

    IRREGARDLESS:

    Main Entry:ir·re·gard·less
    Pronunciation:\ˌir-i-ˈgärd-ləs\
    Function:adverb
Etymology:probably blend of irrespective and regardless
    Date:circa 1912

Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that “there is no such word.” There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.

    @ Nikki: Awesome.

  15. Annika says:

Cool…madonna is from the Detroit area and knows how to do a young, black girl’s hair (or have someone do it). Angelina`s had her daughter for years and still doesn`t get her hair done right.

  16. BlueSkies says:

Regardless, that kid looks happy and knows she was wanted. Good for Madonna and tot.

  17. BlueSkies says:

Too bad Mercy is already sporting the red string.

  18. Bunny says:

Um Annika, there is no “right” away to do any child’s head. It is pure myth (mostly fueled by black people themselves) that we ALL wear braids and that is the only way and proper way to do a little girls hair. This is so freaking annoying and just dumb! And it is too frequently used to ridicule non-black mothers who have mixed race or black children. Get over yourself!

I am black and I can’t braid hair for jack shit and I am not even going to try. Ponytails, little fro or whatever..thats what my babies get. Cuz in the end it doesn’t really matter.

Kids will always find something to tease one another about.

    Rant Done!

  19. Griffy says:

Annika, Madonna grew up in Rochester Hills in Oakland County–NOT Detroit. Look up the demographics and reputation of the area, and you’ll see why your assumption is absolutely ridiculous.

I actually work with young children IN Detroit, and there are very few little girls with their hair in braids these days.

Also, did you ever think that perhaps Zahara hates her hair in braids? Brad has said in interviews she’s very opinionated.

  20. cindy says:

Just stating the facts. Also why go all the way to Africa, Black children in America need adopting all the time. Ive read in many top magazines and newspapers how hard it is to find black children ( and age has alot to do with it) placements in homes. But no she goes to Africa. Just again like the Dutch

  21. schiva says:

yup…just like a good colonizer. appropriating minds and brainwashing with whatever dominant hegemony du jour — kabbalah.

it’s true…there are so many homeless and unwanted youth right here in our country. but madge has to go for the wow factor — exoticizing the other (this time in the form of a young malawi girl) and looking like the heroine.

another day’s work and another new toy for those bored richies with too much access to excess.

  22. Ursula says:

She is such a cute patootie. Looking forward to seeing more of her. Move over princess Z. David must be happy, they are close in age and can identify. Lourdes is also reported to have loved her so much since the time they met. I am glad she did not change that poor girls name to some fancy exotic name which looks good in the tabloids.

  23. vitu says:

Am one of malawians who is proud of mercy and david. God bless madonna!
