Doria Ragland flew to England yesterday, and she really did quit her job

Meghan Markle's mom Doria Ragland heads to the airport ahead of daughter's wedding!

It’s probably only a small consolation to Meghan Markle right now, but at least her mom has never sold her out. Doria Ragland has behaved perfectly, even if some/many people want to paint her as a schemer or someone looking to cash in on her daughter. Doria is probably arriving in England as I write this – These are photos of Doria leaving her home on Tuesday, and she was driven in a chauffeured Cadillac to LAX, where she was dropped off at the Private Suite (according to TMZ). Basically, the palace and Doria took pains to ensure that Doria wouldn’t need to interact with any paparazzi or tabloid reporters or anything. Yes, it was probably expensive (as TMZ ridiculously noted) but the woman is literally traveling to England to see her daughter marry a prince. I’m sure Meghan, Harry and the royal family were happy to shell out the extra cash to ensure that Doria arrived safely and uneventfully considering all of the drama this week.

Meanwhile, there was this story about Doria which piqued my interest:

Meghan Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, quit her job at a mental health clinic in Los Angeles, a source close to Ragland exclusively tells Us Weekly.

“Doria is no longer working at the mental health clinic in the Los Angeles area. It was Doria’s decision to leave,” the source explained. “She has talked about starting her own private practice, focusing on working with elderly patients.”

[From Us Weekly]

I don’t find this shady, but I’m sure some people do. Doria has worked as a yoga teacher and social worker, and my guess is that “her own private practice” would likely involve yoga and physical rehabilitation for seniors, which isn’t a bad career path at all. Maybe Meghan and Harry will help her out with money, maybe they won’t, we don’t know. And if they do help her out with money, please remember that one of the few times that Prince William took out a large sum of money from his trust fund was to “help” the Middletons buy their current “Middleton Manor” in Bucklebury. William wanted his in-laws to have a home fit for royalty – I’m sure Meghan and Harry want Doria to be taken care of too, especially since she’s the only close family member who hasn’t sold out Meg.

I am loving her travel outfit! I think I want to see more doria street style.

    • StartupSpouse says:

Yes, please! She is rocking that blazer. I wish I could pull that off.

    • Ninks says:

It’s fabulous, she looks chic and comfortable. I can’t wait to see her wedding outfit.

    • BlackVoices says:

How is Doris being painted a mooch? She lives several blocks from me in what is dubbed “Black Beverly Hills.” People try so hard.

      • FLORC says:

Same way Meghan is being painted a gold digger. Isolated associations that ignore every other fact, ever.
Harry’s wife was always going to be a target. That theres a racial aspect. America aspect. And terrible family members actively trying to trash Meghan while begging for handouts by association makes it very easy to attack.
Her mom might be the only decent member of her inner family circle.

    • RedOnTheHead says:

Me too! The doggie t shirt is the perfect touch. And yoga does a body good, she looks great.

    • Mrs. Wellen-Melon says:

      TeamDoria

    • TyrantDestroyed says:

My mother is more or less the same age as Doria’s and her travelling outfit seems to include similar choices such as cat’s prints and blazers lol.

    • TheSageM says:

That is a J Crew t-shirt from two years ago. I know because I have one 🙂

    • Hazel says:

Great jacket. And it looks like she’s wearing Burberry for the wedding.

    • PrincessK says:

Doria has great style and she is going to look lovely on Sunday, I think Meghan gets a lot of her innate style from her mother.

    • Princessk says:

Doria has great style and she is going to look lovely on the day of the wedding. I think that Meghan got her innate style from her mother.

  2. Elena says:

btw the procedure he is talking about is a cardiac cath not heart surgery. most patients go home the next day. could have easily been scheduled well in advance of the wedding.

    • Olenna says:

Agree. He’s likely getting a stent. I know of two elderly family members who had the procedure recently and both went home the next day.

      • Godwina says:

Yes but (and not to defend the father, who seems to be an untrustworthy lout and a half), “going home the next day” to rest/recover is not the frakking same as getting on an international flight over an ocean in a media swirl to immediately attend a massive 15-hour mega-event after routine surgery. There is *some* chance here the stress of everything Markle/royals brought on a cardiac moment that diagnosed the need for a stent just this week. If that’s true, not sure he had a choice.

If it’s true, of course. Big If.

    • Miss Melissa says:

My grandmother died during the same procedure, so there’s that.

      • Jessica says:

^ Sorry for your loss, Melissa.

These medical procedures are routine, yes, but that doesn’t mean they don’t come with risk of complications or that everyone recovers from them easily. We don’t know anything about Thomas Sr.’s health situation. His behavior certainly isn’t good or helpful or considerate, but he doesn’t seem to be a monster like Samantha and Thomas Jr. He seems extremely overwhelmed and if he was already a bit of an irresponsible father who didn’t have his life together before all of this, then all of this has made it infinitely worse. I couldn’t believe it when I read a story on the Mail a couple of days ago that was tracking his movements and purchases down to the minute. I’m not excusing the hurt he’s caused Meghan, but that would drive me over the edge. All the scrutiny of his diet etc. It’s nasty. Harry surely hates the tabloids now more than ever. I 100% agree with Lainey that Samantha likely put all of the ideas in their father’s head about how slovenly he appeared in the press etc. Just toxic people.

      • Carrie1 says:

        Well said Jessica.

      • Agapanthus says:

I could not agree more @Jessica, I think he has been thoroughly exploited by the media, esp the Daily Vile. He is an elderly, vulnerable man with physical and possible mental health issues and it is disgraceful the amount of scrutiny he has been exposed to.

The Daily Vile were implying he hadn’t had a heart attack and/ or if he had, it was due to eating junk food. Even TMZ have been ruthlessly exploiting him. He should have been properly protected and advised in terms of PR and security, I feel so sorry for Meghan and him, the whole thing is just shameful. He did not ask for this level of scrutiny, and I thought the tone of H & M’s response was spot on.

I was hoping this would open the public’s eyes a bit to the shenanigans of the sexist, racist, size-ist Daily Vile and TMZ and back fire on them. Words fail me as to how disgusted I am…Rant over!

      • Kloops says:

Just want to agree with Jessica. All the pitchforks out for an older man who’s clearly dealing with various issues seem disingenuous considering what tabloid shenanigans we tolerate from celebrities who have chosen the public eye. Obviously, he has not been a great father or husband and he does not appear to be emotionally or physically robust of health. He didn’t ask for this tabloid scrutiny and has made many poor decisions, but if we can afford sympathy for MM who made a conscious choice to enter this life I don’t see why we can’t extend some of that to her parents. They are all under enormous stress. No adult in the Royal Family (blood or marriage) is above reproach. Maybe the Queen comes close but she has dedicated her entire existence to this archaic institution. The rest are all deeply flawed individuals.

      • Kelly says:

Another agreement. The demonization of this poor man is getting out of control. Accusing him of selling out his daughter is way over the top. The man allowed images of his own body showing interest in his daughter and his health. FFS, we don’t even own our own bodies now? Has he sold pictures of Meghan? Has he revealed anything private about Meghan? Has he spoken of her personally at all? If my mom could get a pack of stalking vultures off her back by allowing pictures of herself, I’d say do it. If she could make some money off the fact that she was my mother by simply allowing pictures of her own body – bonus!

If Meghan is shamed by what her father has done then she should spend five minutes googling her future in laws – some of the most disgusting people out there. Cut this old man some slack. And if the world was attacking my father (and I was blessed to still have a father at Meghan’s age), I would make a public statement supporting him, rather than allowing him to be vilified. What would it take to please everyone? His death?

      • Kelly says:

@Kloops, seriously! Has this man been linked with sex trafficers? Has he been having sex with underaged girls? Is he a raging racist? Is he a Nazi sympathizer? Does he live off the largesse of a commonwealth? Does he live large while his subjects struggle?

    • RD says:

Wrong. Cardiac catheterization is heart surgery. It is not open-heart surgery.

  3. Alix says:

What a lovely woman! I hope she walks Meghan down the aisle.

    • Char says:

I hope she succeed in her intent, elederly people need attention and it’s such a difficult task.

    • Megan says:

Her dress bag is Burberry. Is that a clue to the wedding dress designer?

      • Lorelei says:

        @Megan my thoughts exactly!

      • Spicecake38 says:

Wondering the same after noticing her garment bag was labeled Burberry…

      • Merritt says:

I doubt the clothing in the garment bag includes her dress for the wedding. She visited Meghan this spring. It makes more sense that she had fittings done there and her dress is waiting for her and any final alterations.

    • Lilly says:

Me too. But, I am sad about all the back and forth with her dad. My uncle or brother was supposed to give me away (my dad died when I was young) and I got separate letters the day before that they couldn’t be there. My future father-in-law stepped in, but I was very sad, even though they both had a tendency to do what they did. Although, I can believe her dad is overwhelmed by all the intrusion; it doesn’t lend itself to making sound decisions. The DM is so shady and the half-siblings.

Doria is lovely and being in a similar field, I admire her work.

  4. Clare says:

Also, Megan has plenty of her OWN money to look after her mum. Y’all know that I view the BRF as leeches in general, but I cant begrudge a woman, who made her own $$, looking after her mum. My husband and I buy my mum a business class flight twice a year to come visit us – it’s after YEARS of her supporting us mentally and financially when we were working and trying to finish doctorates etc…it feels good to do something nice for her. Let her treat her mama, if that is in fact what she is doing.

    • SNAP says:

      Clare: Yesssssss!!! This!!!

    • Liane says:

      Hear hear!

    • NameChange says:

Exactly. And so the F what if they give her seed money to start a business? Is the mother-in-law of a prince supposed to eek out a living at a free clinic?

    • Christin says:

Absolutely. A decent, involved parent makes a significant investment of time, emotion, and money to their child. Paying them back is well deserved.

      • Cherrypie32 says:

        Exactly….and this is such a non-story.

      • Carrie1 says:

This. People who leave behind or ignore those who did all the heavy lifting for them are usually trash. It’s so good to learn about Meghan and her Mom. I love their relationship. I’m hoping her Mom moves to England actually. NHS cutbacks mean her skills are in need too. Working with elderly would be a dream … everybody forgets old people.

    • Bettyrose says:

This is the least shady thing that’s ever happened. Financially successful kid helps mom start her own business.

    • Kelly says:

I don’t know if Meghan (or Meghan and Harry?) are giving any money to Doria, but I certainly have no problem with it. My mom lives with me and I wouldn’t allow her to go without anything if I had the ability to provide it to her. And I would highly encourage her to move to the UK if I were Meghan. But then I don’t have a problem with how close Kate is to Carole.

      • bettyrose says:

IKR? It’s like, they could buy her a mansion and give her money for a luxurious retirement, and this is wrong why? Parents raise kids. Kids grow up and take care of parents. It’s fine. (I also don’t have an issue with William buying his wife’s parent’s a mansion with family money either. I have plenty of issues with the lot of them, but not that.)

    • AnneC says:

Also, I believe this is her only child and I’m sure she wants more flexibility to visit or even stay for extended periods of time in England if they’re are grandchildren. My daughter in law had a baby last week and her mom has moved (with my son and Daughter in laws help) up to northern Cali from San Diego to help out for a year.

    • Princessk says:

Also William reportedly helped the Middleton’s buy a house.

      • bettyrose says:

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with William buying his in-laws a house if he did it with personal money. I stand by that whatever other issues I might have with that family. Still, helping Doria start her own practice is a completely different kind of financial support, IMO. She won’t be living off their good graces, even if she is perfectly entitled to do so.

  5. Toot says:

I see no issue with this, and is she works for herself she can also make her own schedule, basically she has more freedom to fly to England if she needs to.

    • abby says:

      ITA.

That’s what first struck me. Once she gets up and running, and if she gets a strong and trusted manager then she will be free to travel to see Meg and Harry as she wishes.

Not to mention she will have more independence overall and be performing awesome work.

    • Heat says:

I also see no issue with her choice to quit.
In fact, I see it as something quite admirable; I have no doubt that the clinic in which she worked was being inundated with press & paps. Given the fact that it is a mental health clinic, the atmosphere was probably quite conflicting with mental wellness!

      • Godwina says:

This. Not sure she had a choice either way, the way the world behaves about stuff like this.

    • Embee says:

How wonderful that she can parlay her decades of experience into a private practice, taking control of her schedule and serving the population she wishes to serve. If her daughter’s private life enhances her professional profile, I consider it an appropriate compensation for the personal stress her daughter’s love life has caused her.

And WOW they have the same face! Stunning women, both of them.

    • Honey says:

I have a lot of social worker friends who have gone into private practice. Some derived as direct offshoots from their work and others pushed into areas that are more billeable by the various states in which they live. Some do have talk therapy” practices, some offer rehabilitation services (with OT/ PT friends), some focus exclusively on addictions and some are just garden variety practices.

I wonder how quitting will affect her pension plan? I assume one is in place.

    • Cynical Ann says:

That’s exactly what I thought too. She doesn’t want to have to navigate vacation time if she wants to fly to see her daughter (and possibly future grandchildren) and stay for how long she wants. It makes complete sense to me.

    • notasugarhere says:

On the worrywart front, I hope she gets excellent insurance for this practice. Goodness only knows how many 1) tabloids are going to try to get info out of her while posing as clients or 2) idiots will try to sue her for a made-up reason thinking the royals will pay their settlement.

      • Honey says:

Nota, I was thinking about that too. She might just be better protected working for an agency.

    • PrincessK says:

I think that this ‘working for herself’ thing is just a cover, so that people don’t say that she has packed up her job because her daughter is marrying a prince.

  6. mogul says:

So Meghan dress is Burberry, thaks Doria!

    • Becks1 says:

That was exactly what I thought! but then I thought – if she (Doria) was wearing a Burberry dress, would it probably have been made in England? Doria’s been so discreet this whole time, I cant imagine her waltzing into the car to England blasting the name of the dress designer.

But, I think we all figured Burberry was a front runner so its certainly possible.

    • C. Remm says:

Not necessarily, but maybe Dorias dress is Burberry. 😀 The Royal Report is having a hard time right now. People sort of threat him “don’t you dare dragging Doria into this mess”! Nice!

    • Goats on the Roof says:

      My thoughts!

    • Lorelei says:

I just remembered reading that Doria wore Burberry the last time she was in England, when she went to the closing ceremonies (?) for the Invictus Games with Harry and Meghan. So she just likes Burberry and it could be something for a rehearsal or whatnot.

    • Spicecake38 says:

Up thread I said the same about Burberry, but now I’m going to go the opposite just for fun-What if that Burberry label she is carrying is to throw us off,you know,we’ll be expecting Burberry, and SURPRISE something else

  7. Goats on the Roof says:

Is that a Burberry dress bag mama Ragland is carrying?

  8. Nicole says:

It piqued my interest until I saw what she does. Private practice is common with her career path and with the wedding and children soon on the way this is a natural break for her. So it made sense to me at least.
Also social work/psychology and yoga is a great combination for a practice. I know someone that wants to open a place similar to that as well

    • Millennial says:

Yup! There are several hippie yoga therapists in my area. I used to see a hippie yoga instructor nutritionist. There’s definitely a large market for that sort of thing.

    • Honey says:

A lot of my SW friends have gone down this path.

  9. Nell says:

Clare, does Meghan really have ‘plenty’ of her own money? Plenty could be relative. By ‘plenty’, how much do you mean?

    • Alix says:

      Supposedly around $5 million.

    • Becks1 says:

I mean, I don’t think working on Suits for a few years has given Meghan the kind of money the BRF has, not by a long shot, but I’m sure it has given her a nice cushion. And since she wont have to use her own money for anything for herself ever again – she certainly has the money to spend on her mother (flying her to England for the wedding, etc.)

    • Clare says:

You’re right, Nell, plenty is totally relative – I meant that after many years on a vaguely popular TV show, I imagine she has ‘plenty’ of money to support her mum, if she chooses to no longer work.

    • Masamf says:

@Nell, I’m taking Clare’s “plenty” to mean relative to people in her class, eg. other actors/actresses on a prime time show that has been on air for 7 years. Eric Braeden has been an actor on a soap opera for more than 30 years and he is placed at $25 million worth, which is a lot of money but considering how long his show has been running and how long he’s been on it, I’d easily have placed him at maybe $150 million, but that’s not the case. And there are many other actors that have been in show biz for years but don’t even have $2 million to their names, or some that have been acting for many years but have $3-5 million. Gina Torres is placed at $5 million worth, that’s not a small amount of money. Having $5 million to your name is having “plenty” of money IMVHO. I mean its not plenty as in what say Aniston has, but its still not being a pauper.

      • AnneC says:

Anyone that bought real estate in LA 25 years ago is doing really well.

      • Lady D says:

Victor Newman must have missed out on the incredibly lucrative commercial market. I’m quite surprised that Eric Braeden and his agent neglected that. At various times in his career, he could have sold almost anything.

    • notasugarhere says:

Looks like plenty to me. Pretty sure I could live well for the rest of my life on $5 million.

  10. HelloSunshine says:

I imagine it’s also best for the medical practice she left, so people aren’t calling or coming in just to get a glimpse at the princess’s Mom or whatever. Plus, if she’s working for herself, she’ll be able to take more time to go see MM in the UK. It’s not like she can easily make just a weekend trip to see her nowadays. Her mom seems like a great parent anyway, but compared to the shitshow that is her dad and stepsiblings, she’s a saint

    • AG-UK says:

      Duchess I would imagine.

    • Christin says:

Think of the “sources” trying to sell stories if she stayed in a larger practice. I don’t blame her for wanting more independence and less chance of leaks. Gawkers may be harder to shake away, though.

    • Olive says:

meghan has half siblings, not stepsiblings – they share one biological parent.

  11. Busyann says:

Can I just say how awesome I think it is that it is Meghan’s black mother that is the classy one in this whole wedding debacle. I mean people want to say nasty things about Meghan because she’s bi-racial but the stink isn’t coming from the mothers side. Hahahahahahaha.

    • Beluga says:

Tbh I’m relieved for her that she’s been so classy and low-key, not because I thought she’d be otherwise, but because the slightest bit of drama, no matter how tiny and irrelevant, would have given them material for months. They’re still trying to fuel this Oprah rumour because it’s all they’ve got.

  12. loislane says:

If I were in Meghan place I would got her a mansion and everything she needed. It’s her mom. They can give her what the Hekk they want. That’s what everyday normal peeps do. Not a big deal. Next.

    • Embee says:

Agreed! I would totally spoil my Momma if I could – and will, given the chance!

    • Masamf says:

Mine is rested, but I wish. I have no probs with Meg and Harry spoiling Doria, she seems to be a very adorable mom.

    • notasugarhere says:

I’d certainly encourage her to move to a gated community where the paps and wingnuts cannot sit just outside her door.

    • milky says:

But it was bad when Kate & William wanted the same for the Middletons? I’m just trying to understand the reasoning here. Families/mothers should always be looked after, especially in this situation. I’m not sure why anyone should be criticised for it.

    • Raina says:

Seriously! I would bring my mom with me if I moved across the state, much less to another country! We are by no means wealthy, but we recently bought a new house with the intent of converting part of it to a MIL unit for her. If I married a prince, my mama would be in a mansion next door!

  13. SNAP says:

Nothing wrong with helping one’s momma, especially when you are in a position to do it and help make one of her biggest professional dreams come true. For a long time i wanted to help my mom but couldn’t. Now that i can it gives me joy to give back to the woman that gave me so much and made so many sacrifices of all kinds for me and my siblings. So, go Megs!!! Family first…except for the paternal side…lol…

  14. minx says:

She seems like a lovely woman. Thank goodness.

  15. jeanne says:

the DM comments made me so angry yesterday over these pics. people were saying nasty, racist things about her hair and nose ring and how she better change both before the wedding. i hope she keeps her hair exactly how it is. she has a beautiful face and her hair is awesome. she doesn’t give a f*ck about what those snobby people think of her. she’s going to represent her daughter and those uppity blue bloods are jealous they don’t have 1/10 of her confidence and cool.
i can’t wait for doria to show everyone up on that day. her face won’t crack. you can tell that woman has nerves of steel. she won’t let anyone see her sweat.

    • StartupSpouse says:

+1. I also think Doria is gorgeous and looks like such a cool woman. I want to hang out with her.

    • OriginalLala says:

I think her hair is awesome – eff those racist dillholes. Meghan and Doria will be dealing with this crap from the UK tabs for years, I hope they have nerves of steel.

    • Sherry says:

I take the DM comment section with a barrel of salt. I think most of the comments are paid trolls.

    • Smokey says:

Uppity blue bloods aren’t the consumers of the Daily Fail. You’re talking about people who are equal to or about one step lower then the average Fox viewer. Just like Trump pumped up his base to openly display their ignorance, intolerance and bigotry, Mail comments are fully displaying post Brexit racism.

      Agree, Doria is a rock.

      • LAK says:

Smokey: The DM demographic is well-educated, middle class, home counties. The DM has always been right-wing, royalist, xenophobic, establishment. You may not agree with it, but it isn’t equivalent to Fox news nor does it cater to the British equivalent of Trump’s demographic.

      • Masamf says:

I noticed too that a LOT of DM commenters are from many other countries but the UK, so there’s that too. A large percentage of people commenting on Meghan are American. IMO, this population is hard to apply to representing of British sentiment/opinion.
And NO she shouldn’t shave her head not take out her nose ring (if she has one) just because some haters want to see her do what they say. Just don’t give them the satisfaction. Just like Meghan shouldn’t be married in a civil ceremony because haters continuously push the divorcee narrative. Like the invictus song goes, I envision Harry standing with his head up and telling everybody, “under the bludgeoning of your onslaught of poisonous pens and opinions, my head is bloody but unbowed, I’m the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul, y’all can kiss my butt”

      • Olenna says:

Agree, Masamf. When I cared to read the DM comments (I’ve stopped), I noted a lot were made by persons with US locations and they expressed themselves pretty much like drumpf supporters do–openly bigoted and unfathomably mean-spirited. But, maybe the print and online editions have a different audience. Note: Wikipedia describes the DM as a mid-market tabloid.

      • milky says:

It really doesn’t have anything to do with Brexit. The DM was full of ignorant, disgusting, xenophobic crap years ago. I remember because reading their comments used to make my stomach turn! Everything has been heightened with Meghan’s coverage.

    • Masamf says:

At the end of the day, the only people whose opinion of Doria matter are Meghan and Harry, that all. If the extended future inlays approve, that’s just a cherry on the ice cream but the other 2 are all that count. And it seems like at this point, both people that matter do really love this woman, the rest is chaff.

    • Surely Wolfbeak says:

The DM actually used the headline “MOVING ON UP” for that story! I’m assuming to the East Side? To a dee-lux apartment in the sky? Their racist dog whistles are more like sirens.

    • Godwina says:

OMG I am praying no one tries to strong-arm Doria into “appropriate” (eyeroll) hair for the big day. Yes, Black hair exists and it’s GOOD AS IS. Princess Blackamoor can suck it up in the next aisle!

  16. Busyann says:

I don’t see the problem with Meghan helping her mom. Personally speaking, I’m nowhere near Meghan’s wealth, but even on my small salary I still give my mom money on a monthly basis. She’s the only one that’s been there for me and if I can give back to help her follow her dreams or live easier you better believe I will. I don’t see anyone taking shots at Kate either, but really just pointing out that Meghan is doing the same thing Kate did for her family.

  17. loislane says:

I am digging that white t shirt with the doggie. Any ID? I would rock that with black jeans and boots.

  18. Magdalin says:

    Nose ring? What nose ring?

Well, methinks it might be a good idea to take that out, but everything else is great.

And not because it’s bad, but because sometimes, in small ways, it’s best not to do something that would just egg the haters on.

    • Honey says:

“F” the haters. And that includes Philip and any racist or racist adjacent nose ring comments that can and will be made.

    • Masamf says:

No if she wants her nose ring she should keep it. Why, is Doria’s piece of jewelry being made into such a big deal if nobody is forcing no one to forsake there earrings, or necklaces or finger rings or whatever?

      • teacakes says:

Yeah if Princess Michael Racist of Kent was allowed to keep her blackface brooch on when meeting Meghan for the first time, NO ONE has any business “suggesting” that Doria’s nose ring be removed if she herself wants to keep it in.

      • Marr says:

        @teacakes
😀 I was just thinking of Ofmichael’s brooch.

  19. lili says:

Doria isn’t Megan’s only close relative. She is very close to her niece, Samantha’s oldest daughter who disowned her mother years ago. The niece was all over her instagram, Megan went to her law school graduation, and credited her for helping her understand her Suits character.
Her youngest niece, Samantha’s youngest daughter who disowned her as soon as she graduated high school, said that her older sister was coming to the wedding. She gave an interview begging her family to leave Meghan alone, called them liars, said her mother was abusive. She also said that Meghan spent a lot of time with her when she was younger and Samantha was vicious and made their lives hell whenever Meghan would see her or had a career advancement. She lost contact around the time Meghan became estranged from Samantha and implied that her mother didn’t let her see Meghan anymore.

  20. Petty Riperton says:

Can we stop acting like her mother is poor.

    • Surely Wolfbeak says:

      THIS!

    • Sid says:

The narrative that some people want to build around Ms. Ragland is interesting to say the least. I will keep it cute and stop there.

Though she might look younger, she is only a few years away from the traditional retirement age. The fact that she is quitting her current job shouldn’t raise any eyebrows, even if she didn’t intend to open her own practice.

      • Olenna says:

MTE. I’ve been SMH at some of the “sympathic” comments. She is 61-62 years old, a home-owner, educated, and nearing SSI eligibility age. Self-employment at this stage in her life lets her call the shots. Plus, I don’t think she’s the type of parent who expects help from their child. She seems like a strong woman, and I think she’s done much on her own to raise a strong daughter.

    • Spicecake38 says:

True, why would she be below average financial means, when she is and has been a working professional.True she may not make six figures in her profession, but is old enough to be secure financially

    • Skylark says:

Agree, it’s so disrespectful. She’s a professional woman in her 60s, making a career change, something she could have been thinking about for long before Meghan met Harry. And yes, perhaps having her own practice will give her a little more flexibility as far as travelling across the pond goes, but to assume this decision has anything to do with an expectation of financial input from her daughter and son-in-law is just insulting to her, particularly when she comes across as such a cool, grounded, self-sufficient woman.

    • Masamf says:

Who’s acting like Doria is poor?🤔

      • OriginalLala says:

I remember an article basically saying meghan was straight out of the mean streets of compton. it was nasty, awful and racist

  21. BlueSky says:

TMZ and their vultures who linger around LAX are just butt hurt that they didn’t get an exclusive pic of her arriving to the airport.

    • notasugarhere says:

LAX is building a VIP terminal, modeled after the Windsor Suite at Heathrow. In future, it will be much more difficult for paps to catch her, Harry, or Meghan at this airport.

  22. Cerys says:

I’m glad to see Doria is on her way to the UK. She seems like the only stable member of Meghan’s immediate family and hopefully will be able to support her daughter at this difficult time.
As for quitting her job, it seems like a sensible thing to do. Otherwise she will become an object of curiosity for those wanting to glimpse a royal mother-in-law at work.

  23. Tiffany says:

As someone who worked with high risk people for the state and was a tech on at a hospital psych ward, I can see leaving.

It is a physical and emotional job. The turnover if insane in that field. It takes a lot out of you. I loved it but knew for my own well being it was time to move on.

And besides, Doria’s life is in California. We won’t be seeing out with a self created singlet ring soon.

  24. feral child says:

I hope Doria is going to get Meghan and smuggle her out of this whole wedding. I believe that Harry loves her but his family is a mess. Can you imagine ANY member of the royal family providing her comfort right now, besides Harry??? She’s alone in a foreign country with only her fiancee while her family is acting foolish. The grey men are not comforting her, not Will or Kate, Charles or Camilla, and definitely not the Queen.

Her only comfort is Harry and her friends.

Meghan deserves more and if she stays and actually marries him, her family mess, his family mess, the hounding from racists will not stop. Harry did not lie when he said marrying him and living his life is difficult.

I hope she gets out, goes on a long vacation, and enjoys life as a private citizen. Remember, their courtship was fairly short, they’ve never lived together, and they spent vast amounts of time apart. While Harry seems empathic, he’s getting pressured by the firm too.

With his own history and his family’s history, cough cough Princess Michael of C–T, how much patience is he going to extend Meghan as she navigates through her family? How much is she internalizing, how much is she trying not to let anyone down, be a sterling example, and what is that doing to her, how will that affect their relationship in the long haul if she has to be so silent and sacrifice so much for a patently racist institution???

I don’t want her to go to the sunken place, I want her to get out with Doria, and be free.

    • Tiffany says:

      100% in agreement.

It is only gonna get worse from here on out for Markle.

    • notasugarhere says:

“The grey men are not comforting her, not Will or Kate, Charles or Camilla, and definitely not the Queen. ” B.S.

You want her not to marry the man she loves? Are you under the impression her family is great in comparison to the Windsors?

She already has a network of London-based friends she has built up through the years; she isn’t alone. She has people like Beatrice, Eugenie, Zara, Autumn who know what it is like to be in the family and in the press. She can build friendships and work relationships with Princess Madeleine and Princess Mabel, both of whom live in London and have experience being tabloid fodder.

Princess Michael is a stringer, an add on, not a member of the main family and not an official working royal. Princess Michael would be the one who stops receiving the invitations to family gatherings. Push comes to shove, Charles shoves the Kents out of their KP apartment if HM won’t do it.

Some aspects of royal life are negative, but on the whole, they live lives of incredible luxury and work no where near enough to earn it. They have a security and privacy shield of the 1 percent, all paid for by someone else.

  25. Keepitreal says:

Doria seems like a chill lady. I hope that they do assist her with starting her practice; nothing wrong with that and they CAN afford it. I hope her business venture is successful!

  26. Jay says:

    She seems great! Yay!

  27. harla says:

Next to seeing what Meghan wears, I’m most interested in seeing what Doria and Camilla wear. I loved Camilla’s coat dress from W&K’s wedding and while I seriously doubt she’ll repeat it on Saturday, I’m sure she’ll wear something equally as lovely! I wonder if Doria shares the same style sensibility as her daughter, sleek, classic, modern and minimalist? Lol, I’m getting much too excited about a wedding that I’m not attending for people I don’t even know, lol

    • notasugarhere says:

Part of me hopes Camilla re-wears her outfit from their registry office wedding. She’s re-worn both the hat and the dress before. I know it is white, but I don’t care. Or she could re-wear the outfit from the Jubilee Flotilla, which was a warm cream.

      • harla says:

I had forgotten about the registry office outfit, it was stunning but one usually doesn’t wear “wedding clothes” to someone else’s wedding, I can see the press having a field day with that !! LOL I wonder if she’ll go with one of her famous large hats? Camilla can rock the large tiaras and hats like no one else.

    • teacakes says:

I really like the black jacket Doria’s wearing in the pic with the Burberry thingie (I forgot what you call them, suit hangers?)

      • harla says:

A nice fitting blazer is a lovely thing, I’m always on the hunt for the perfect blazer.

  28. VintageS says:

You can tell where Meghan gets her looks. Her mother is adorable.

  29. Avery says:

I really hope Doria is moving to England. This will be such a good move for Meghan and I am sure Harry would love to have her there too. I am so fiercely protective of my daughter and I can just imagine how Doria must feel with all that is going on with M. I would want to rip people to shreds if this was my child.

  30. Boopy says:

I’m just wondering why Will and the Middletons have to be brought into every story about Meghan?

    • Cynthia says:

Because how else are we supposed to compare and contrast and know that William and the Middletons are almost in the same league as the devil..

  31. Steph O says:

Anyone else intrigued by that seemingly GIANT agave in one of the photos? No? Just me?

    • AnneC says:

Just scrolled up to check it out. Yep, they’re everywhere in SoCal. We have one in our backyard in Santa Barbara that must be 10 feet high and presently has a flowering stalk growing out the middle that is probably 30 ft high. They’re amazing beasts.

  32. ladida says:

I am here for Ragland Manor. What I mean by that is, my mom is the only person in my family that I am really close with. I think Meghan will need some of her own family nearby in adjusting to a new country and the Firm. Europe is not exactly the most welcoming warmhearted place, no offense.

    • Grumpy says:

Europe is an entire continent with 741 million people, have you met them all? What a ridiculous comment.

  33. Ladykeller says:

I really don’t know what there is about Doria for people to imply she hasn’t behaved appropriately. Unless you are racist and looking for a reason to hate her she has been the only one of Meghan’s relatives who can act civilized.

    • Sophia's side eye says:

They’re probably mad because she’s in her sixties but barely looks forty. They can seethe.

  34. Hartford says:

“Her own private practice” most likely means “someplace where her coworkers and clients won’t have to deal with with the relentless harassment by media bottom-feeders.”

  35. Kelly says:

May I ask a question of my fellow posters? Why in the world do you read Daily Mail anyway? Instead of reading and then being outraged, why not forego the trash?

    • Sophia's side eye says:

I go on the DF only to look at pictures. I never read the so called articles or the comments, those people are vile.

      • Kelly says:

Thank you. I’m over the people who continually quote the daily mail and then whine about how awful they are.

  36. tearose11 says:

Her mom could pass for her older sister or something. Doria looks amazing and I am sure she is being supportive with Meghan right now.

As for the garment bag: red herring? Or might be for a completely different function than the wedding.

Maybe she will share living space with her daughter and son-in-law to be in England? It’s not unusual, and I’m sure H+M will have plenty of room to spare which will give them all their privacy as needed.

Of maybe she just wants to quit and go into semi-retirement and work less?

Either way I want to see what the mother of the bride will be wearing.

Since everyone is talking about how much M is worth: it might be tied up in something and not all cash and may fluctuate in value. I can’t imagine she was boatloads of money, plus we don’t know how much she was spending in clothing, PR, agents etc. She wasn’t even a household name, was she? I had never heard of her till she landed Harry. If her show goes into syndication, then she might be raking in a bit more from that, but honestly how popular is the show even? Is it even good or worth re-watching over and over?

    • Masamf says:

You just have to watch suits and determine for yourself. For me though? It is an awesome show and I really loved Meghan and Patrick in it.

  37. YankLynn says:

I had to google the LAX Private Suite option and they have a detailed website with video to show you how lovely your experience would be for $3000 🙂 I’m glad for Meghan that she could make the long trip as peaceful and hassle free as possible for her mother. Also out now are shots of Meghan’s assistant meeting her mother at the Heathrow private suite and whisking her off in a Jaguar !

    • DP says:

Good for her! I think a mother should always be treated like royalty! Especially by royalty. Lol!

  38. Julie says:

Morton confirmed months ago that she would be moving to england. Shes going to cash in just like everybody else the only difference is shes waiting till the marriage is legal, she’s no dumb bunny.

    • Masamf says:

@Julia, what do you means “she’s going to cash in”?

      • YankLynn says:

Masamf, I’m guessing Julie must mean the way the Middletons cash in on Kate’s marriage. Or maybe that’s not what she was thinking about 😉

Though Meg’s mother is near US retirement age and being American I think has limited use for these perceived royal connections/benefits. If Meghan wants to help her mother out in some way I kinda think she will not be the first daughter to ever do that for her Mom and also seems consistent with something she might have done if she’d never even met Harry.

    • Sophia's side eye says:

There’s nothing wrong with a woman near retirement age moving to be closer to her daughter and future grandchildren, if that even happens.

    • themummy says:

Or…maybe she is getting closer to retirement age (as the other poster said), wants to be near her only daughter, doesn’t have too many binding ties to where she is now, and is up for the adventure of moving to another country? I’d do the same! There is absolutely ZERO indication that she has ever said a single word to anyone about Meghan, Harry, or any of it. Or that she has tried to cash in in any way. She actually seems classy and very private (and tough–she has never responded to any mean crap that gets said about her–and you know she is aware of it; she puts her daughter first). She just goes about her business. She’s not inviting cameras or courting the paps. She just lives her life. Which I hope she continues to do. She’s just a lady whose daughter happened to be marrying a prince. That’s it.

    • notasugarhere says:

You’re taking what Morton says as gospel? ROTFL

She cannot just up and move to the UK, not without a great deal of legal paperwork and due process going on. People are all over Meghan’s citizenship process; they’d go even harder after her mother.

  39. homeslice says:

They are so close, but she gets to London 2 days prior to the wedding. I am waiting to hear that Doria walks on water too, lol.
I am usually pro on these MM threads, but some of y’all are just sounding bonkers lately…

    • Vanessa says:

Just because Doria arrived today that doesn’t mean her and Megan aren’t close Doria has her only life to live . Doria has been nothing but a class act through out this whole ordeal people have called her daughter awful names have been Racist toward her and daughter thought it all she has said nothing that why people are impressed with her and like her so much .

  40. DP says:

Let’s not forget, that Megan’s mom was once in a relationship with Megan’s dad. Makes me wonder a bit about her judgement too.

    • Vanessa says:

Are you seriously Doria character is not into question woman are not responsible for their ex spouse or partner behavior .

    • notasugarhere says:

At the time they were married, he was gainfully employed, ultimately won an Emmy, etc. If things have changed in his life in the last, oh, three decades since they divorced? How does that call Doria’s character into question?

  41. Ce2495 says:

She is very beautiful and Meghan looks like her. I can’t wait to see her dress!

  42. themummy says:

Doria is a licensed social worker, which means she can quite legally and competently set up business as a therapist. My last therapist was a licensed social worker and she was awesome. I doubt she’s going to be teaching yoga at this point. It is weird to me that the fact that she’s switching jobs is actually news. So weird…

    • Lizabeth says:

I agree @THEMUMMY it is a little surprising that “61 yr old woman quits job” is a big story! But I disagree that Doria can necessarily set up an independent practice as a social worker. I believe she holds the Associate Social Worker credential, not the LCSW needed for independent SW practice. She may have enough hours of supervision and may have passed the additional credentialing exams needed for the LCSW but I don’t believe she holds that license yet. That’s not surprising… aren’t the pictures of Meghan with Doria in cap and gown only a few years old? It does take awhile to gain the needed approved hours of supervision, even when working full-time. I’m also not sure how easy it would be to practice SW independently in the UK as some here have suggested might be her plan.
