New York is a busting city, and sometimes the big city’s traffic is not your friend, as Fergie learned on Tuesday night.
The 43-year-old singer was set to be a presenter at the Paley Honors: A Gala Tribute to Music on Television at Cipriani Wall Street – not only a presenter, but the first presenter. Wisely, the event organizers didn’t ask her to sing the National Anthem. Unfortunately, a whopper of a tropical storm caused major traffic delays, forcing Fergie to find an alternate mode of transport to the gala. She did, and made the six mile trek from Columbus Circle to Wall Street on the subway with assistants and bodyguards in tow.
Instead of making a fuss about the change in plans, Fergie decided to have some fun, documenting the journey on social media. In her Instagram Story, she and her entourage are seen entering the subway, with Fergie sharing,
So we’re taking the subway because a tropical storm hit New York. And then we had to get from Columbus Circle to Cipriani Wall Street in a full white suit, check it out, August Getty. And uh, yeah, through the rain! And we’re gonna go to the Paley Honors, and I’m the first presenter, so here we go!
Since Fergie gave a shout out to her suit designer, it’s only natural that she plugged her footwear line, in a quick Boomerang clip of her sparkly pumps. Me likey, by the way. In another clip, a fellow commuter plays Fergie’s song “Glamorous” on her phone and the singer joined in for a few bars, while the other passengers ignored her. Ah, New Yorkers. The impromptu DJ then used her phone to take a pic of the singer, which she posted to Instagram.
Fergie also uses the train platform as her personal fashion runway, in a glorious slo-mo clip featuring a catwalk-ready strut. Who knew public transportation could be so much fun?
Fortunately, Fergie made it to the event in plenty of time to pose on the red carpet and hob nob with fellow attendees, including Jimmy Fallon. Whew! I do believe she must’ve been running late or something from the get go – as there’s got to be some sort of reason for the hem on her pants. I know she’s not tall, but those pants make her look so short and kind of dumpy – and you can’t see her shoes either, which are my favorite part of the outfit.

White suit on the subway? Ew. Pants that are way too long dragging the ground (and underground) of NYC – double ew. The whole look is sloppy as hell, but good for her for making do.
I’m ambivalent towards Fergie, but what is with the draped blazer over the shoulders look? It’s like a Meghan Markle initiated conspiracy.
There’s nothing preppy or sexy about looking like you got cold at the end of a junior high school date.
