Victoria Beckham thought Meghan Markle’s wedding gown was ‘absolutely beautiful’

The wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Even after all of these days have passed, I still can’t get over how miserable Victoria Beckham looked at the royal wedding. She looked like she had just gotten the worst news of her life just before she got out of the car. She looked like she and David had just gotten into some huge fight and she was trying not to cry. Well, here’s one theory about Posh’s “sourpuss” expression: the night before the wedding, David had been at the Soho Farmhouse and he ended up taking a selfie with an attractive brunette woman named Kara. Kara posted the photo to Instagram, but she ended up deleting it (you can see it here). I mean, does it follow that David and Kara snogged or whathaveyou? No. But I would be interested in knowing if Posh even knew where David was and what he was doing the night before they turned up at the wedding. And maybe that not-knowing is why she looked so miserable.

Meanwhile, Victoria gave an interview to the Evening Standard where she talked about what she thought about the royal wedding and more. Some highlights:

She loved the wedding: “It was such a beautiful, incredible wedding. It was just the best day. They looked so happy and everybody was just so happy for them. Meghan seems like a genuinely lovely woman who really loves him. It felt very real, very honest.”

On Meghan’s Givenchy wedding gown: “I thought she looked absolutely beautiful. It really suited her. I thought it was perfect for her. And Harry looked great.”

She wore her own design to the wedding: “I love a bit of navy. The dress is one of my favorites. It isn’t in store until November, but we’ve had so many inquiries about it that I’m seeing whether I can bring it forward.”

[From Us Weekly]

I was too busy looking at Posh’s misery-face that I barely even looked at her dress. It actually wasn’t bad, and I honestly like navy too. I would much prefer to see women wear navy to a wedding than “primrose yellow” or whatever. And I like that Victoria has too much class to insult Meghan’s wedding gown choice, and I felt the same way: was the Givenchy what I would have chosen for Meg? No. But I respect her choice and I thought she looked beautiful and happy.

I thought Meghan looked wonderful on her wedding day. Posh looked like she was attending a funeral, both the dress and hat.

    • Lilly says:

Yes to both – and to be fair, Posh never smiles. If you don’t like how you look when you smile, I get her always having the same expression.

      • Missmarirose says:

Exactly. And the thing is, she WAS smiling and laughing in the church. When the cameras showed them talking to other guests before the wedding, she was smiling. I guess she just didn’t realize she was on camera.
So this miserable Victoria story really doesn’t pan out. You can’t tell anything about her mood by looking at still pix of her.

  2. minx says:

I love navy but I didn’t care for this dress…didn’t like the hanging strap or the sleeves. Looked Project Runway. An she looked miserable.

  3. MostlyMegan says:

We had a little wedding watching party here in Ireland and the general consensus was that Posh looked like she was attending a funeral. The veil on the hat really just made it worse. The outfit + the hat + the look of impending doom made it appear like she had a rain cloud over her head. I get she doesn’t have to smile all the time but to look cheerful and happy for the couple at a wedding isn’t really asking the sun moon and stars. She knew the cameras would be on her, she didn’t care. Verdict: marriage over, fashion choices inappropriate.

  4. Mrs. Wellen Melon says:

The sleeves are unbelievably gimmicky. The neckline is a bit much for a day wedding. An orange hat and navy shoes might have read more “fun”.

  5. Nickname says:

She looks like Lydia Deets from Beetlejuice

    • magnoliarose says:

      HAHAHA!
OMG I wasn’t prepared for that.

    • ChillyWilly says:

Lmao! Nailed it! Posh usually looks miserable and hungry to me, but there is definitely something up in their marriage. And why is he buying hot, young chicks shots? I’d be pissed if my husband did that sort of thing.

  6. Sansa says:

Her husband is one of the most handsome men and she’s probably having marriage issues. I give her a pass, but, hint, if she smiled and acted carefree her husband would be doing a 360 .

    • Zapp Brannigan says:

Hint if he was not a cheat she may have something to smile about, playing games is no way to get a person to treat you with dignity. Honestly if he was so unhappy in the marriage he could just leave, but he likes the convenience of what marriage offers him and the convenience of using his marriage as an excuse to not be serious with his various other women.

    • Lorelei says:

So if she would smile he would do a 360 and be in the exact same position he is now? Good to know…Or did you mean a 180,meaning he would completely change his attitude?
It would still be a super misogynist way of thinking but at least it would be geometrically correct.

    • Missmarirose says:

      You meant 180, not 360.
And he should give her something to smile about. She doesn’t owe him one just by breathing.

    • Ange says:

People that have actually spent time with her say she’s actually a very witty woman with a dry sense of humour and fun to be around. You read a lot of her interviews and it does show. She just doesn’t smile because she hates her smile which is also well documented in her interviews. I don’t think she’s miserable at all unless, you know, her husband is running around on her.

  7. savu says:

That’s nice of her! Yeah, not what I imagined Meghan in, but it made a statement and seemed very “her”. I’ll cheer that on any day!

  8. Capepopsie says:

Well, if her heart was in tears because of personal (Marital) problems, I’ll easily give her a pass. I can’t be merry and smiley under such circumstances either! 😔

    • SNAP says:

She did look like something was weighing heavy on her heart, so to speak. She didn’t even look like her composed pouty usual self. Def smthg serious in her mind at the time.

    • magnoliarose says:

He’s been tomcatting around for a long time only now I think he is actually looking for someone else if he hasn’t already found her. Seems he has checked out already with one foot out of the door. I am surprised she hung on this long. I don’t see the appeal into hanging on for the sake of a brand or even for the children when they cheat like he does.
He has her to thank for his branding and the whole package she created to make them marketable. He was just another chavish footballer but with a pretty face and she was the least talented spice girl with terrible implants.
She should dump him, reinvent herself and move on. He and his tiny voice aren’t worth it.

      • Knitter says:

Yes, @magnoliarose. I agree that she should dump him and reinvent herself. He’s not worth it. Besides being nice to look at, what is appealing about him? I never got much of a read on his character except some leaked emails making him look money-grubbing.

  9. Fran says:

    I like Posh…

yeah she could have smiled but she doesn’t owe anyone a smile.
Her dress is ok, it didn’t wow me but it is appropriate for a wedding she’s only attending as one of many many guests

    • Zapp Brannigan says:

I like her too and I wish she had a husband that treated her better. A story was doing the rounds here (friend of a friend, but I trust it) that Becks was involved in promoting something and his management advised the company he was working with to not leave him alone with any of the female staff as he hits on everyone. To be clear no implication of anything harassing or violence, just that they warned if he was taken up on an offer he was then impossible to track down to get him to focus on the actual work.

      • The Hench says:

Yeah, a friend of mine worked with him and she told me that part of his rider was that the sheets in his hotel room had to be changed twice a day. At the time, I wondered why the hell that was necessary. Now I’m beginning to understand….

  10. Hazel says:

I liked Posh’s dress—and found the full cuff at the bottom of a split sleeve interesting. And I agree with others, she doesn’t have to smile if she doesn’t want to. And by now in her career, everybody knows she’s not a smiler, so no big deal.

  11. Ada says:

Probably in the minority, but loved VB’s dress – so chic compared to all the florals and ruffles. And have people not been paying attention for the past couple of decades? She hates smiling!

Also, not that it matters but I don’t find David handsome or interesting at all. How has he managed to stay relevant all these years?

    • HannahF says:

I also liked the dress and agree that VB does not smile and is not required to so. To me the sadness emanates from her body language and especially from her eyes. Her eyes project abject sadness.

  12. Jenn says:

He’s cocky and unbothered. He almost appears to be mocking her in the third pic.

But the top picture where she is touching him and he’s oblivious – ouch.
She can do far better, hope she will.

I actually like her outfit. Especially the red shoes.

  13. Jaded says:

She’s hanging onto a sinking ship by staying with him. No amount of happy PR can disguise the fact that he checked out of the marriage a long time ago but he really REALLY wants a knighthood and going through a messy divorce would certainly hinder his slim chances.
