Does every baby that was born to a couple that used a sperm donor need to be legally adopted? Sperm/egg donors don't have legal claims to babies because they give up their rights. No one in their right mind would be a donor if someone suggested in 10yrs parents could come back and sue for support. DUH! Same w/surrogates. There were some custody battles at the beginning which is why people use and egg donor *and* a surrogate. that way they were the oven only, didn't contribute to the bun. Got it? Now MJ was weird. But everyone screaming about why he didn't adopt the kids has got to answer 2 questions. 1. Should *all* parents using fertility treatments need to legally adopt because they don't share DNA? Laws aren't written for individual circumstances. 2. Should it be that anyone w/enough money can get sperm out of a catalog, select an egg donor, and find a surrogate and be the sole legal parent of the resulting child? What if it wasn't MJ, but a single 40 something woman who had a hysterectomy? What if it was someone who wanted a designer baby? What about couples where neither parent shared DNA w/the baby? What if the couple isn't married? It always takes a while for laws to catch up w/societal changes and technology. And being reported in US weekly by "sources" certainly doesn't prove a damned thing. There has been rumour after rumour published here, and some are tagged "update:not true" after the fact. To this end Jaybird and co, pointing out that this is an <b>alleged</b> claim and probably not true would be a very good idea.
