Seth MacFarlane is ’embarrassed’ to work for the same corporation as Fox News

What are the general sentiments about Seth MacFarlane at this point? I’ve been going back and forth about him for years. Some days, I think he’s a total douchebag who has a history of creating characters and shows that do and say some dumb and problematic things. On other days, I think… well, he’s growing as a writer/actor/director and he seems to be pretty consistently liberal/progressive. I don’t know. What I do know is that Seth’s most lucrative production deals are with Fox and News Corp/Fox’s entertainment division. It’s widely believed that Rupert Murdoch and the Murdoch family don’t really care about the entertainment side of their business, they only care about their newspapers and Fox News and their global news brand. Which makes it difficult for liberal/progressive artists to work for Fox and still criticize the other side of their corporate employers.

So, Seth is trying. Even though Fox pays him, he f–king despises what happens at Fox News and how Fox News is just the propaganda wing of the Trump Party. CNN’s Brian Stelter tweeted this as he was watching Fox News a few nights ago:

This was Seth’s reaction:

I mean… Seth is right, it IS embarrassing. But is Tucker Carlson’s “don’t listen to anyone but us” any more or less embarrassing than Fox News daily programming and all of the awful lies and propaganda they push on a minute-by-minute basis? My question for Seth is why now, why this?? And if you feel that strongly about it, get a production deal with another company! That’s the thing though – Seth and Fox Entertainment have a good deal with each other, and the Murdochs rarely interfere on the entertainment side of things. I doubt Seth’s tweet even bothers them. They have bigger fish to fry.

Down is up and up is down – breaking faux news! Register to vote as the erosion of truth/ decency is gaining on us all!

  3. Harryg says:

Okay, but I still can’t stand him and his smirky face.

  4. SJhere says:

Exactly right, he’s just talking crap. Take his huge $$ and medium level talent and go elsewhere if he’s so “embarrassed.” Nope. He’s cashing those big a** checks and nothing else.

  5. Esmom says:

Yeah, he’s right but without action his words don’t count for much You’d think he’d be able to go elsewhere and do just fine. And that another network would be happy to have him. But who knows what his contract dictates.

I mean. Why now and not last year, or the year before, or the year before…?

I think Fox is trying to sell of their movie division. Last I heard Disney was in the running. Not sure who else. So it won’t be long!

  9. Lyla says:

Disney and time warner are looking to buy the fox entertainment branch. The Murdoch’s will keep faux news of course.

“Principles only mean something when you stand by them when it’s inconvenient.”

  11. polonoscopy says:

Nope. He’s pretty consistently a misogynistic asshole. He belongs on Fox.

  12. Lisa Giametti says:

Yet he still cashes their checks.

  13. tealily says:

I’d rather he admit embarrassment and express conflict than not acknowledge it at all.

Always felt that regardless of all the news outlets that you read per day, u still don’t know what the people in politics don’t want you to know. Papers and tv need ads, political parties and the government pay to put those ads in, heck! you can see the amount of money that is reserved just for that on budget docs of agencies, of political parties, of the government… So, if you factor what little is taught in history classes about your own history, yeah u the citizen is supposed to remain dumb, so i won’t cause the change that people need and stay within the status quo.
