Prince Louis of Cambridge’s christening is scheduled for July 9th, in London

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge leave the Lindo Wing, St Marys Hospital

My mom just asked me when the Duchess of Cambridge was going to release some photos of Prince Louis. Like, my mom is Kate’s target audience, I think: she actually flat-out loves Kate’s photography skills when photographing her children. Anyway, that was just a reminder that I have no idea if and when Kate will release some personal photos of Prince Lou. My guess is that she’ll do it sometime after the christening? We knew that the christening would probably be in early July, and now Kensington Palace has confirmed it:

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are pleased to announce that the christening of Prince Louis will take place on Monday 9th July at The Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace, London.

Prince Louis will be christened by The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby.

Monday July 9th. That’s smack-dab in the middle of Wimbledon!!! Wimbledon starts July 2nd, and the 9th will be full of crazy tennis action. I guess Wimbledon-patron Kate isn’t planning on attending any matches in the first week, but I’m also guessing that they’re doing the christening in London just so Kate and William can attend some matches in the days after the christening. Prepare yourselves for this too: we’ll be seeing a lot of the Middleton family over that two-week period. Carole Middleton will attend all of Roger Federer’s matches AND she’ll be front and center for the christening. Same with Pippa and Terribly Moderately Wealthy James. They’ll all get invited to sit in the Royal Box too. Ugh.

Do you really think that scheduling this in London is about tennis though? Charlotte’s christening was at Sandringham and they made such a big deal about doing it away from London. I think many of us assumed that they would do Prince Lou’s christening at Sandringham too. I wonder if there are any other (non-tennis) reasons why this one is in London?

Charlottes was at sandringham for the Diana factor. Gotta invoke that as much as possible.
Think your mothers going to be disappointed if she’s waiting for pictures. She’s already released her personal ones- around the time of charlottes bday. We’ll get ones of the christening, ones of George for his birthday and then nothing for months.

    • C. Remm says:

Psst, what Meghan wore on her head at Ascot yesterday is not a fascinator, but a hat. 🙂

    • Lisette says:

Charlotte’s was at Sandringham because they lived at Anmer Hall full-time, but nice try.

  2. Becks1 says:

I don’t completely follow @Notasugarhere ‘s theories about “Diana’s Granddaughter” (TM) but after this I kind of am…..they are doing this christening much more privately – no church stroll – we’ll probably only get the pictures they release – and doing it at the chapel royal and not St. Mary Magdalene, which would make more sense to me especially considering as its summer like it was with Charlotte’s.

It could just be for the logistical ease if they want to go to Wimbledon that week or the week before, but I dunno.

Or maybe they didn’t like having the christening at Mary Magdalene before and preferred St James? It’s easy to read too much into things and I’m a sucker for a “conspiracy theory” so sometimes I have to walk myself back, haha.

    • L84Tea says:

I am completely lost. What is the conspiracy theory surrounding this??

      • Becks1 says:

Oh not really a “conspiracy theory” I just meant I can get sucked in easily and make the mistake of overthinking Kate’s actions. Like why is the christening here and not there? WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!?!!?!?!?!?!?

When the reality is that it probably just means London is more convenient for the event this year.

      • notasugarhere says:

That boy babies have less value to them than Diana’s Granddaughter (TM). Everything from how they are talked about by their parents to how they are protected by the press or the public (or private) PR natures of their christenings.

Not surprised this is a small event happening in London. If he had been another girl…

  3. Nellyy says:

    No one knows the reason.

  4. All About Eve says:

This will be modeled in the same way as George’s christening. The arrivals of the guests will be closed off to the public, and there will be limited media access which means less photo opportunity.

I think W&K’s decision to have a more low key christening compared to Charlotte’s will hopefully silence some of those naysayers who’ve been accusing Kate of using her children for maximum pr coverage since Meghan came on the scene! What the royals do, doesn’t always revolve around Harry & Meghan!

    • notasugarhere says:

Or it proves my point that Diana’s Granddaughter appears to have more value to them than Diana’s Grandsons.

      • ChummyChump says:

Any specific reason why? Not trolling, genuinely curious about your theory!

      • KiddV says:

Yeah, I’m not understanding why either. While Charlotte is the star of the family (she slays me) I’m not understanding why they might prefer girls over boys.

I guessing it was just convenience where they held the christenings.

      • notasugarhere says:

More PR value in Diana’s granddaughter, and they milk it.

  5. Lunde says:

I don’t think it’s a tennis thing – I think it’s a scheduling thing. The Royal Family has to be on London as Trump is coming that week (Friday 13th!). Also they will want to have the Christening when other royals are available before the summer and before the Queen departs for Scotland and Balmoral

  6. Danielle says:

Meghan and Harry are visiting Dublin the next day on the 10th of July for their first overseas trip since they married. And isn’t Trump supposed to meet the Queen on the 13th? There seems to be a lot happening in the Royal Family in a very short space of time.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

They tend to pack things in before Summer Court, where TQ moves to Balmoral from end of July/beg August till Sept/Oct. Summer Court is basically her summer break from a full public schedule.

      • Danielle says:

That makes sense. And/or they are bringing out the babies and the shiny new married couple to try distract from the Orange One.

      • aaa says:

Yep, the Queen in particular is busier than a one-legged man in a butt kicking contest in weeks leading up to her staycation in Balmoral.

    • PrincessK says:

I wonder if the Sussexes are being sent to Dublin to avoid meeting Trump?

  7. Digital Unicorn says:

Am sure she’ll release ones she has taken, normally does.

Re: Wimbledon, the first week is the best week as you can see some of the top seeded players in the smaller courts that you don’t need to queue for a week for to get into *cough*centre court*cough*. And yeah even if she isn’t there, the Middleton’s will be keeping her seat warm in the Royal box or be the comp area like they do every year. They either get their tickets via Kate or Federer.

  8. 1st mermaid says:

    Where’s Lak?

  9. aaa says:

The Cambridges were based in Norfolk at the time of Charlotte’s was christening, they are now based in London.

    • Violet says:

@aaa – LOL – oh that’s far too simple and logical an explanation. It’s basically so far as I can tell the same royal christening it’s always been, with no photos of the actual ceremony, and the photos of Kate on the sofa with the new babe in arms and the grandparents and godparents behind, and a couple of pix of people going in, including TQ. The christening coverage of the Spanish, Danish, and Swedish royal babies that I’ve seen is far more extensive, and includes the actual baptism, and has more guests, etc., etc., etc. This is just another nice, normal, BRF christening of a core set of royals. All the conspiracy theories and omg Carole Middleton was going to step in and stage this elaborate luxe ceremony . . . all bunk.

It’s just going to be the usual BRF christening. The only real items of curiosity – is Kate going to wear blue this time, or opt for her usual cream/primrose? And will Harry and Meghan and/or Pippa figure in the godparent lineup this time?

  10. Thatsallfolks says:

    Atleast Kate’s clothes fit her.

    • Lizabeth says:

Kate’s clothes fit except when they are too tight, too short, too-short-waisted…in the rush to criticize Meghan after a month of marriage let’s not revise history to pretend 7+ yrs of Kate’s wardrobe have been perfection.

    • Sid says:

Yes, when they’re not flying up in the air.

  11. Citresse says:

I was surprised they didn’t schedule it on William’s birthday.

  12. barrett says:

That red dress reminds me of little orphan Annie.

    • Belluga says:

Someone here pointed out it’s the same dress as in Rosemary’s Baby and it’s all I can think when I see the photos now!

  13. JustJen says:

Aren’t they living in London now due to George and Charlotte being in school?

    • Lizabeth says:

They still live at Amner Hall during long weekends, school breaks and in the summer, I believe.

  14. wixy says:

Ugh indeed. Why cant the Middletons just stay in their little village. Such attention seekers to come out for their grandchild’s christening.
And you know Kate and William only scheduled it during Wimbledon to take focus off that! They are such attention whores, everything must be about them! Shameful! Kate probably deliberately timed everything, right from conceptualization to birth just for this…

    • Tommy says:

      LOL

I see all the predictions that Kate would be desperately trying to pull attention to herself around Meghan’s visit with the Queen have fallen flat. She and the kids have not only not been seen out and about, but she gave a pass to the family wedding, the Knights of the Garter thing, and Ascot. I don’t think facts are backing up this theory that Kate is jealous about attention going to the new Duchess.

    • Eliza says:

Lol. So true. Im not a huge Kate fan but people keep making me defend her. Just existing in the same country seems to make people want to prove she’s out to overshadow Meghan.

*She wore a repeat/similar coat to wedding.
*She went to one polo match which she does every summer
*She didn’t release any photos of Louis
*She skipped official events as she’s on and using her maternity leave

The outrage that she might see a tennis match on a rare outing without her newborn, so? Moms need to breath and enjoy life away from diapers every once in a while too. And christening would need to be June/July or Sept (not during summer break) so the timing is not surprising.

      • minx says:

Same! I obviously have more in common with MM but I find myself wanting to stick up for Kate. Yes, she needs to work more, her fashion is sometimes 🙄 but not everything she does is suspect. I actually believe she likes MM and is glad to have her in the family.

      • Maria says:

        I agree @Minx.

    • Violet says:

@wixy – This +100. This stuff is so OTT sometimes it’s unbelievable.

I listen to the On Heir podcast with Emily Andrews and Omid Scobie and they both theorized it was to do with the queen’s schedule. (Great podcast by the way)
