Melania Trump will make another trip to the border: what will her jacket say this time?

On Tuesday, Melania Trump’s office announced that Melania will be making a second trip to the border. Melania’s first trip was last week – she visited one of the detention centers where kidnapped children are being held after being ripped away from their parents by the American government. When she met with the kids, she wished them “good luck.” This was the same trip where Melania wore a cargo jacket with graffiti-like writing, which read “I really don’t care, DO U?” on the back. One of the oddest little facts about Melania in that jacket: she wore the jacket as she boarded her plane, and then she wore the jacket again as she was leaving the border. No one told her NOT to put it on again. Another little fact about the jacket: it was around 81 degrees Fahrenheit that day. It was a warm day – no need for a jacket. Here’s the statement from Melania’s office:

First lady Melania Trump will make a second trip to an immigration facility “sometime this week” to see firsthand how immigrants who enter the country illegally are being treated, spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said.

Trump last week made an unannounced trip to McAllen, Tex., where she visited a shelter for immigrant children, as her husband’s “zero-tolerance” policy of separating the children of immigrants entering the country illegally was roiling the country. The first lady’s office offered no details about this week’s planned trip, which was first reported by CNN. She may tour a migrant processing detention center, which was slated to be part of her visit last week. That leg of the trip was canceled because of flood conditions, her office said.

So maybe today, maybe tomorrow, maybe Friday, at some point Melania will be going back down to the border and doing another “photo op” with traumatized children and the adults who are keeping them in cages and/or detaining them in makeshift tent cities. Here’s my question: what will Melania’s jacket say for this week’s photo-op? Pick one:

All the while, she was sitting in front of a bulletin board in that classroom that said “kindness counts”. No one brought up the irony.

      • Megan says:

She was sitting in a long-term shelter run by a church for unaccompanied minors. She did not tour the for-profit warehouses where children are in cages. These trips are PR stunts designed to take the pressure of Trump lest his base experience a moment of compassion. She is a complicit a-hole.

So many good choices that I can’t choose just one. I’ll go with “IDGAF” and “Whites Only.”

These people are so grotesque and obscene.

    How did we get here?

Oh I remember now, Hillary was just so dislikable. If only she has been Jennifer Aniston-esque, then white women would have voted for her in droves. Maybe. Maybe not, they may have just emulated their husbands and wanted them happy. Everyone knows every man secretly wants to be a bragging P grabber and ‘looks’ ranker of women and girls.

But Hill had to be taught a lesson for being female, intelligent, experienced, and so not my self-tanned bestie with a great layer cut.

Sure my grandparents and parents live in the basement now with our family, and we’ve lost our pensions and life savings trying to survive after our medical bills destroyed us for the last time – but it’s just so rewarding depriving certain women of the thing they want — signed 53% of Caucasian women voters in America

  9. Eric says:

    ” I married a man with a tiny gherkin-dick so I wouldn’t have to prove I’m an illegal”

“I am having an affair in my mind with a man who has an average pee-pee.”

  10. grabbyhands says:

Or something like “Sorry I’m late, I didn’t want to come”

I smell a distraction, because who is checking for this? The Deplorables could care less if anyone is checking on these families and everyone else knows it is a scam.

A Federal Judge, this morning, ruled that parents and kids have to be reunited within 30 days; those kids 5 and under within 14 days. The judge also admonished that the Gov’t keeps better track of land than they did of these kids/parents. Perhaps they plan to ship off more kids to “lose” before this.

And don’t forget, there’s an immigration bill being voted on (today I think?) as well as the gut job on Soc. Sec., Medicare/caide coming up.

DISTRACT DISTRACT DISTRACT!!! LOOK OVER THERE!!! NOT AT US!!

Can we talk about Nagini giving $50 K to a mega church for its Latino migrant program when the “church,” which is viciously anti-LGBTA, has no such existing program and the pastor plans to use it for some evangelical “Bible Camp” event next week aimed at proselytizing to predominantly Catholic kids who are separated from their parents? Meanwhile, the Red Cross and Catholic Relief have not been allowed entrance?

  12. Wood Dragon says:

If there was any justice she and her parents would get deported.

  16. Kate says:

A federal judge in CA just ordered all immigrant children to be reunited with their parents within 14 days if they are younger than 5 and within 30 days if 5 or older!!! The preliminary injunction also blocks the government from deporting adults without their children and prohibits family detentions and any future family separations. This was the ACLU lawsuit that was initiated in February.

I am so f-ing relieved and also very scared that this isn’t the final word. Going to go out and frame a portrait of Judge Dana Sabraw to hang in my living room now and donate all of my money to the ACLU in gratitude.

    • BearcatLawyer says:

Do not get too excited. This administration is already saying they will not reunite kids with parents being held in detention, and this decision does not ensure the parents will be released from custody. The Flores decision also prevents kids from being held indefinitely in detention.

Plus the Huizenga bill everyone is touting actually sucks because it gives the secretary of DHS too much power to decide whether to reunite kids. And it contains ZERO provisions for judicial review of reunification denials.

      • Kate says:

At least the judicial wheels are in motion? SOMETHING is happening – even if it’s not the end. Believe me, I’m still an anxious mess though every day these kids are still separated. I’m learning Spanish now even though I won’t be fluent in enough time to help as an attorney (I dearly hope this is true) just because I can’t stand feeling so powerless.

      • Lightpurple says:

17 states sued yesterday. The stories are heartbreaking. Proud of my AG Maura Healey for standing for what is right

      • Tiffany :) says:

Did you see the emails from Kirstjen Nielsen detailing what their exact plans are?

        1. Amend Flores Settlement Agreement to keep children detained indefinitely
        2. Repeal the 2008 Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act
        3. Dismantle the asylum system.

I think we need to follow the money. They clearly have a goal of imprisoning large amounts of people for long periods of time. I think because Trump couldn’t follow through on his original money-laundering-through-border-wall project, he’s doing it through detention centers. Construction is his private business, and he no doubt is benefiting from this scheme some how.

  18. censored says:

Some are arguing that the message on her jacket was really for her husband and the people who are forcing her to play a FLOTUS role when she clearly has no interest in doing so
Personally I don’t care who the message was for it was juvenile crass and unbecoming of a First Lady
Sooh If she is going to behave like some emo teenaager forced to do their homework or whatever Im going with …
    F U Haters ?

    • Lightpurple says:

Anyone pushing that theory is buying into the “Poor Melania” nonsense. When someone shows you who they really are, believe them. That jacket was a giant FU to the families whose kids were stolen

      • Bella DuPont says:

Let me preface this by saying that I am NOT a Melania apologist in any way, apart from her wardrobe, I see very little in her that’s warm or like-able. Let’s not even mention her eager birtherism.

I just happen to see this scenario differently.

If you were to take that message literally, it’s an extraordinarily psychopathic message. It’s like coming out of a torture chamber with a t-shirt that says “watching people suffer bores me”. Even the most craven of psychopaths know enough to hide their true nature from the world (at least as much as they can). It’s an existential threat for them not to.

And that’s why I believe we saw the orange turd and the White House scrambling to explain away the jacket with various conflicting messages – it was not done in tandem with them and they could see how rotten the optics were.

And that’s why she’s going back. To re-do the narrative, presumably, the way the initially intended.

Again, it’s just my personal belief, but I think Melania absolutely DETESTS her husband….I mean, I don’t know anyone anywhere who looks as utterly miserably as she does. But she’s in some sort of golden cage with him, perhaps because of $$$, her parents immigration status, her fraudulent citizenship and access to Baron. Or maybe for all of those reasons together. This is a man who hit his first wife, raped her, left her for a younger model (as he is wont to do with his wives), grabs pussies and is rumored to have raped a 13 year old girl many years ago, who has since disappeared into thin air since her accusations became public. Why does anyone believe he isn’t doing exactly the same to this wife?

I think that jacket was a passive aggressive swipe at him and his administration, but sadly, they are evil enough that people are actually taking the message literally.

I get it’s easiest to hate them all in one big lump sum, but I also think we shouldn’t let the (justifiable) hate completely cloud our judgement to what is actually happening.

        As always, JMHO.

      • Bella DuPont says:

PS: I believe a testimony from her might be the key to bringing trump down as I bet she knows where at least some of the bodies are buried. But unless we can read her smoke signals….(IF they are indeed that), then we might lose out on a potential asset/weapon in bringing down this Mountain of Shit administration.

      • Betsy says:

I heard Orange Toilet was super pissed about the jacket. I think she did wear it to piss him off. I think she is extraordinarily tone deaf, doesn’t want the role of First Lady and hates her husband (join the club, Melania).

  19. Wood Dragon says:

And now Trumps Supreme Court went after the unions.

  20. Always Lurking says:

This 2nd trip has ‘damage control’ written all over it. Another PR stunt…

  21. adastraperaspera says:

Let’s face it, Melania worked here while on tourist visas. That is not legal. And we have never been given the full story of how she and her (chain migration) family got through the citizenship process. She never followed the process to become a citizen legally. She showed up in the U.S. around 1996, but she wasn’t married to any American citizen until 2005. She has no business going on a junket to fake compassion for people who are being honest about their plights and deserve due process. I am so angry that we are paying for these reality show episodes!!

    • BearcatLawyer says:

She was not married to a USC THAT WE KNOW OF until she married Trump. Some states and countries keep marriage and divorce records secret. While I think it is HIGHLY unlikely she got her green card the way she claims (as an EB11 alien of extraordinary ability) and more likely she got it through a short marriage to a USC, we cannot file a Freedom of Information Act request for a copy of her immigration records.

Once she became a USC though, it was easy to sponsor her parents. And yes, it is so-called chain migration.

And those of us in border states just wish she would stay home. We do not need her fake interest or bullshit compassion.

  22. Swack says:

Will she visit another church run center or will she go to a gov’t detention center?

    • Chrissy says:

The question is, will she actually see any of the kidnapped kids this time around? Last time she was only seen speaking with those running the church-run facility. This second PR stunt is so ridiculous. Another photo-op costing millions while Rome is burning. SMH

Last Sunday 15 year old migrant was reported missing from the Southwest key Casa de padre location in Brownsville where migrant children are held. He ran away and is apparently on his way back to Honduras. Southwest Key said if a child attempts to leave, they can not be restrained because Casa Padre is not a detention center. I can’t believe this.

I thought her initial trip was to “see firsthand” how the people are being treated. From the idiocy of this statement my take away is her first trip was a product plug for Zara. She actually never saw any people which became apparent to the discordant wings of the WH upon reviewing video footage and this second journey is a do over. After which a statement will be put out decrying the fake news reports by msm on her ‘first’ visit which never actually happened because Obama, Hillary, emails. Wash, rinse, repeat.

    • Anne says:

Just heard on the news her trip last week was cut short due to the weather. There was flooding in McAllen with more severe flood flash warnings that day and surrounding areas.
