Anna Wintour is a big fan of the younger duchesses, Meghan and Kate. Wintour is also a big fan of the Queen, but I think Anna’s interest in hyping Meghan and Kate is more of a practical and editorial decision: she wants to leave the door open for either woman in case they want to appear on the cover of American Vogue. Stranger things have happened – Kate did British Vogue, and I could totally see Meghan appearing on American Vogue at some point. The British tabloids would be in utter meltdown if and when that happens. LOL. Anyway, Wintour appeared at Tina Brown’s Women in the World Summit and she was asked about Meghan’s style specifically. Anna’s a fan. Anna is hyping the hell out of Meg.
Wintour on having a signature look: “I think that’s an entirely personal decision … It’s probably an easier decision to wear the same thing every day and not have to be concerned. Maybe it’s a little bit boring and time to change.”
She’s been thinking about suits: “I’ve been thinking a lot about suits recently so … thank you to the Duchess of Sussex!”
On the Sussexes’ South Pacific tour: “When she went on that trip to Australia and New Zealand, she was very respectful in choosing a lot of unknown Australian designers to wear, which was great. But I think, more importantly, she’s really bringing modernity to the royal family in a way that is inspiring.”
If I’m reading into Anna’s comments, I would say that she probably recognizes that Kate has done things for a lot of established labels but Kate hasn’t really done much for FASHION in general. I think that’s the way Anna sees Meghan – as someone who can be a changemaker in fashion conversations, someone who can do things differently and wear pantsuits and little-known designers and change the way women dress for a generation. Maybe.

I think she is correct. I think Kate had/have flexibility in fashion, I think she spent a lot of her early years trying to fit in and lose her middle class status. in addition, don’t think William wanted her to take up Diana’s mantle of fashion icon to overshadow him. Kate is not fashion forward so I doubt it occurred to her to move beyond known British designers. Look at Letizia of Spain, her clothing budget is miniscule compared to Kate and Meghan but she’s adventurous, classy and promotes Spanish designers from all price ranges. She’s a Queen too.
More is interesting is Melania and ANNA’S FEUD. Flotus is one nasty piece of self-serving work.

Kate’s fashion is boresville deathly dull. She is however middle of the road, white, middle class meh and therefore acceptable to all white Britain. She’s hardly challenging in any singular way.
Meghan is in herself class. Self made, feminist, successful, stylish and also ….black.
Racists everywhere hate her and all she stands for but they can’t say it or it is barking dog racism.
She is exactly what Britain and British royalty need but all media are trying their utmost to run her off.
I cannot bear it. It feels as though she is being burned at a stake for simply daring to exist.

She’s not changing anything. The monarchy is all about traditions. If you want change it has to be at the right time and gently. You didn’t see Diana forcefully make a change. She just did it and it was overdue because the monarchy at the time was seen as aloof and not as close to their people.
You really think Diana changed things “gently?” She had a major (legit) axe to grind! I don’t think she was motivated by “tradition mindfulness”. LOL!! We’re you around for the 1990s? Diana was a freight train!! Panorama interview? Morton’s book? Working the tabloids? If you want “gentle change at the right time,” that’s Meghan. The only thing she’s really done is exist, and do a great job on her tours and appearances. She’s the epitome of gentle change at the right time!
