Will Donald Trump freak out when the redacted Mueller Report comes out this week?

President Trump meets Korean President Moon Jae-in at White House

A few months ago, I read an article about what the Democratic control of the House would really mean for the Trump administration. Sources said that even though people were – at the time – hung up on the idea of impeachment proceedings, House Dems would be content to make Trump’s life a living hell for two years, with a drip-drip of investigations and releases and hearings, all to emphasize and re-emphasize all of the illegality and criminal acts and treason of Trumplandia. Now that the Mueller Report didn’t lead to mass indictments within the administration, I think that Drip-Drip Plan is basically the Democrats’ best hope, honestly. And it’s not the worst plan.

I bring that up because I feel like the slowness around the Mueller Report’s release may end up working in the Democrats’ favor too. Tomorrow – Thursday, April 18th – AG Bill Barr is scheduled to release a redacted version of the Mueller Report. The Thursday before Good Friday/Easter Sunday is not the best moment for the release, obviously. But here’s the silver lining: the redacted report is going to be a sh-tshow anyway, and it will just build even more anticipation for the eventual release of the unredacted report. Plus, Democrats get to use the redactions as a cudgel against AG Barr and the GOP: what are they hiding, why the secrecy, why all the redactions, I thought you guys claimed it was a complete exoneration, so why don’t you prove it and release the full report?

Another reason why I think the release of the heavily redacted report (I’m just preparing myself for it) is good news: because the Trump administration is freaking out about it. NBC News reported this week that multiple current and former staffers are “worried” that the report will out them as sources of damaging information about Trump. And because Trump was “completely exonerated” (remember??) of course he and his people are also “preparing an aggressive response” to the release of the redacted report.

While President Donald Trump and the White House are uncertain about what exactly will be revealed in special counsel Robert Mueller’s report when Attorney General William Barr clears its release to the public on Thursday, sources say they are preparing an aggressive response. Sources say the initial response will look much as it did when Mueller first transmitted the report to Barr late last month, which was expressing relief over Barr’s general conclusions.

“He anticipates the end of this just like everyone else,” a source with knowledge of the president’s thinking said. The president’s two top White House lawyers, Pat Cipollone and Emmet Flood, are expected to be among the White House officials reading the report.

Barr and a select few of his associates have been reviewing Mueller’s 400-plus page report in recent weeks and making redactions. ABC News has learned that the White House has received a broad briefing on the report — described as non-specific in nature, focused mostly on the mechanics of the report itself — including that it will be divided into sections on obstruction and collusion and that certain portions will be redacted, according to sources familiar with the matter.

White House officials and sources close to the administration say advisers to the president are most concerned about the possibility of previously unknown examples of potential obstruction of justice and what information Mueller’s team learned from witness interviews, especially former White House Counsel Don McGahn who sat for well over 30 hours with Mueller’s investigators.

Sources say the president hasn’t privately expressed any concern over the contents of the report, and is not likely to read it in its entirety. White House officials will review the report, brief the president, and then release a statement that will come from White House press secretary Sarah Sanders.

[From ABC News]

“Sources say the president hasn’t privately expressed any concern over the contents of the report, and is not likely to read it in its entirety.” Because he can’t read anything other than the Fox News chyron. His plan on Thursday is to do nothing but watch Fox News tell him he’s the bigliest and most innocent man in the world. Then he’ll tweet utter nonsense for hours. That’s his “aggressive response.” Meanwhile, none of this is the end. There will be more hearings, more testimony, more investigations, more subpoenas. House Dems are going to get Robert Mueller under oath in the next few months, I’m sure. They’ll also eventually get their hands on the unredacted report.

House Dems will definitely get their hands on the unredacted report. I don’t know if we, the public, will ever see it, but the House leadership definitely will at some point. I wonder how redacted the Thursday release is going to be.

If it was as good for Trump and the Republicans as they claim, they would not release on the Thursday before Easter, lol.

And Trump compares himself to the crucified Christ in 3…2…1…

    • whatWHAT? says:

what I don’t understand is how Mueller “couldn’t come to a conclusion” on the obstruction charge.

WE ALL SAW HIM TELL A REPORTER, IN THE OVAL OFFICE, THAT HE HAD FIRED COMEY BECAUSE OF “THE RUSSIA THING”. HOW IS THAT NOT OBSTRUCTION?!!

sorry to yell but I am so pissed about this.

    • Paige says:

Why is it that the Star Report was on sale at every bookstore in the country-in it’s entirety-but we won’t be seeing this one with all the Russia implications that we as Americans deserve to see??

      • Amy Tennant says:

Amazon has a placeholder listing for it, so it’s hopeful it will be released… eventually…

      • whatWHAT? says:

because the GOP are a bunch of hypocritical corrupt pr*cks.

(but I’m betting you knew that.) 😉

  2. Megan says:

Trump doesn’t need to express his concerns privately, he has been expressing them publicly for two years.

  3. STRIPE says:

Even if the report said he’s guilty of everything, he followers won’t care. They truly believe a Russian puppet who obstructs justice is better for the country than any Democrat.

Nothing will happen to him. There’s no way Republicans will turn on Trump at this point. Whether it’s because they live in a Fox News echo chamber or they truly believe the ends justify the means (or both)

    • ByTheSea says:

      boom. This.

    • BlueSky says:

Unfortunately I agree with this. Nothing will happen. His followers have shown time and time again that they really don’t care. The GOP have chosen party over country. They are drinking the Orange Kool Aid.

    • Esmom says:

Agreed. They still seem to believe that Hillary and the “Deep State” are to blame for this “witch hunt,” that he’s being investigated only because of their irrational Trump Derangement Syndrome. I saw one deplorable on Twitter scream about how it’s because the Dems are just jealous of Trump and his “beautiful wife.” We’re talking two entirely different planes of reality here.

      • Elkie says:

Ah yes, the Democratic Party’s jealousy over Trump’s marriage to a woman whose supposedly long, successful and totally legitimate modelling career produced barely a handful of actual photos, and who is clearly physically repulsed by him, forced Trump to travel back in time and become a career conman and fraudster, allow Russian mobsters to launder money through his real estate business, surround himself with now-convicted criminals, hide 100+ meetings with Russian contacts and admit to obstruction of justice on national TV.

        It all makes sense now!

      • Esmom says:

Elkie, I know, right? It’s insane. And they call us deranged? I truly don’t get it.

    • Kitten says:

This is why it’s best to just ignore the release of the redacted version of the report. Hell, even the UNredacted version should probably be ignored because the GOP will do nothing. We’re in an emotionally abusive relationship with these people–the gaslighting, the manipulation, the spin–all of it. We can’t let their games get in the way of our 2020 strategy. Eyes on the prize.

I really encourage people to volunteer to help their favorite candidate whether phone banking, door-knocking etc. OR donate to your top three or set up a monthly donation to your favorite–just get involved. It’s really empowering during a time when we all feel so powerless.

      • Esmom says:

Good points, Kitten. The only time I felt real hope these last couple years was when I was phone banking weekly with a group of awesome activists to flip an IL house seat last fall. Of course the election turned out the way we wanted…we have to apply and sustain the same level of intensity and focus to get Trump out in 2020 or it just won’t happen.

      • Kitten says:

Good for you, Esmom, that’s great! It must have felt really rewarding to see all that hard work pay off.

And yeah, we need to be super-focused on getting control of the executive branch AND retaining control of the House. The senate is probably out of our reach but that’s not a reason to not try. This is truly the only way that we will effectively stop this nightmare.

      • Lilly (with the double-L) says:

Agreed @Kitten and that’s wonderful @Esmom. I donate money, not a big money donor obvs, but what I can. I don’t donate time and I ought to, so I’m very grateful to those that do. I love the idea of giving to my top 3 candidates. I can’t abide Bernie, so I don’t give to general funding. If he gets the nom, I’ll have to decide at the time what I can stand to give, other than my vote. But, please sweet Baby Jesus give us a woman – we have so many that are qualified and wonderful.

    • whatWHAT? says:

“They truly believe a Russian puppet who obstructs justice is better for the country than any Democrat.”

and Roy Moore is leading in that AL senate poll. they think a pedophile who stalks teenagers is better than any democrat. lost causes, all of them.

    • 90sgirl says:

This report is still basically the Barr report with more added.
Congress will eventually go for the actual Mueller report , that’s the only report I will trust.

    • Franny says:

Trump supporters only care about 1) keeping brown people in their place or 2) paying as little in taxes as possible.

They’ve shown that literally everything else – including national security and common decency – are negotiable for them.

    • hogtowngooner says:

Sadly true. They’ve been saturated with “Dems are the devil” from talk radio and Fox News for nearly 30 years. They get swept up in performative patriotism but don’t seem to realize or care that they carry around an addictive hatred for a legitimately elected political party.

    • Tiffany :) says:

His “followers” won’t care, but they are only about 35% of the country. The report details might make a difference to the suburban voters that took a chance on a business man, those voters who were too dispassionate to vote for Clinton, etc.

His victory was won on the fringes. I understand not trying to fight for the votes of the heavily indoctrinated, but I do believe there are important votes* that went for Trump in 2016 that could go the other way in 2020.

*It is such a freaking shame that some votes matter more than others in this country, but that’s where we are. By “important votes” I mean those in WI, MI, and PA.

  4. Lightpurple says:

The man is constantly freaking out. Thursday won’t be any different.

  5. Digital Unicorn says:

No because he knows Barr will black out anything that directly incriminates him but he might used it as a distraction as he is now threatening to sue Deutsche Bank if the release his accounts/tax records to the Dems.

If he’s not sh!tting in his adult nappies over the redacted report he sure is over his tax returns.

  6. smcollins says:

Is that a rhetorical question? *Of course* he will because that’s what he does when shit’s about to hit the fan (not that it will make a difference to his blind followers, also per usual).

  7. Jenns says:

Right now I’m enjoying his freak out over Bernie Sanders going on Fox News.

  8. Swack says:

Of course he won’t read it – its 400 pages and he barely gets through a one page security briefing. Also why do I picture Trump as Voldemort in Malfoy Manor when he finds out Harry has Huffelpuff’s cup (another horcrux) and does massive killing of most that are there. Only Trump would be doing massive firings. Following the money is what they should be doing (and are).

  9. grabbyhands says:

I’m not sure why he’s bothering to freak out about it – nothing is going to come of it.

The GOP is never going to stand against him and frankly, I’ve lost faith in the Democrat’s ability to do anything except constantly eat their own. If he is ever brought down, it will be in spite of them, not because of them.

  10. Tootsie McJingle says:

Tomorrow is my birthday and all I want is good news aka bad news for Trump!

  11. mycomment says:

I think it’s going to be a great big ‘meh’.. everyone who despises dotard is well aware of his cruelty, complicity and utter corruptness. his supporters will remain with him until the white house burns down. they don’t give a shit about anything other than ‘owning the libs’.
the only thing this endless and pointless speculation has done is provide jobs for the teevee commentariat.

    • whatWHAT? says:

“they don’t give a shit about anything other than ‘owning the libs’.”

and I will NEVER understand that. they could be left destitute and homeless with their entire family dead due to 45’s policies and actions, and as long as the “libs” are “owned”, they’ll still cheer him on.

  12. Amy Tennant says:

Barr’s not going to let anything through that looks bad for Trump or contradicts his summary. And even when the full report eventually comes out, Trump’s already instructed his followers what to think about it. He doesn’t need to read it; neither do they.

  13. Um Yeah says:

Nope. He never seems worried about stuff like that because there IS no reason for him to worry.

  14. Marjorie says:

I don’t know, I still think something will happen. The way he’s always operated is when the con has played out (Atlantic City casinos, most of his real estate) he just shrugs his shoulders and moves on to the next thing. When someone anonymously dumps his tax returns/abortion NDA/fraudulent Deutsche Bank statement/full Mueller report on th NY Times, he’ll fold.

  15. Nic919 says:

While I still have concerns that Barr will be redacting things well beyond the secret intelligence angle, I think that any negative information about Dump that can get released will make a difference to the middle of the road voters. The ones that are not cultists and already are doubting what has happened since 2016. The cultists are a small number but amplified by Fox and right wing media. It’s not like Dump won the popular vote and his margins in places like Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin were minimal. Things like the Mueller report will make a difference if Dump’s corruption and treason is exposed.

  16. Jerusha says:

Freak out, my left foot. Stroke out, preferably. That might be the one thing that frees us. I know i’ll be the happiest person in the world.

  17. Franny says:

I’m expecting the worst, which is that every reference to Trump’s shady behavior and misdeeds – and those of his family and inner circle – will be redacted. He will then crow and gloat endlessly and 40% of the country will continue to give him unconditional support.

By the time the truth comes out – all of his deals with the Russian mob and money laundering – it will be too late. There will be some serious damage done to the country that we won’t be able to reverse.

In the meantime, he’ll continue to find a way to sink lower every single day. He is proving himself to be the biggest bottom feeder in the western world.

  18. Green Is Good says:

Tormenting the fat f*ck for two years would be exactly what the bloated 🍊🤡 deserves.

  19. Louisa says:

The release of this redacted report is a waste of time. There is no way Barr is going to allow anything to be released that throws any doubt at all about Trump’s “exoneration”. And then we’ll have days / weeks of the media and the GOP spouting about how Mueller found him completely innocent. When we ‘ll still have no idea what Mueller found. I’m exhausted by it.

  20. Pete Booty Jig says:

Russiagate is dead. Time to move on.
