Whose hair is worse: Kate Gosselin vs. Gwyneth Paltrow

gosselinpaltrow1
All credit to The Huffington Post for coming up with this hairstyle comparison: Kate Gosselin’s bizarre reverse mullet vs. Gwyneth Paltrow’s “business woman” persona haircut in 1998’s Sliding Doors. (I’m so sorry to say that I actually saw that crapfest in the theater.)

Gwynnie’s hair in Sliding Doors isn’t quite as spiky in the back as Kate’s, but there’s a definite comparison to be made. So which is worse – Kate’s, Gwyneths, or are they just about the same? Would you be caught dead in either? I found at least one woman who willingly donned Gwyneth’s hairstyle. Her sister blogged before and after photos showing a lovely woman with gorgeous long hair transformed to a bland short cut, explaining that she wanted the Sliding Doors ‘do.

And here’s a hairstyle blog with actual circa 1990s hairstyle photos of women with the Kate Gosselin “bob” along with directions on how to achieve it. They call it “A Perfect Choice for Busy Moms!”

Thanks to this Korean site which is probably about hairstyles for these screencaps of Paltrow in Sliding Doors. Photos of Kate Gosselin from PRPhotos and INFPhoto.com

    kate’s worse

  2. ash says:

Kate’s. At least Gwyneth’s was in ‘style’ back then, maybe. Kate’s hair is so much longer on one side and spikey in the back. I consider that an epic fail.

  3. Green Is Good says:

Kate’s is just awful. At least Goopy Paltrow’s hair doesn’t look a porcupine is nesting on the back of her head.

  4. Katharine Jaynes says:

For some reason Gwyneth’s just doesn’t look nearly as bad as Kate’s. Maybe its Kate’s spikes and choppy highlights that really do her in. I hate her highlights, they don’t even attempt to look real.

  5. dudewtf says:

I think kate’s hair is looking a little more tame lately. I think she is growing it out. Hopefully…

  6. icky says:

    they’re both fug

  7. Ned says:

o.k. What’s with the Gwyneth grudge?

Sliding Doors was a good movie, and Gwtneth looked beautiful back then.

I have always said that I actually like Kate’s hair. But then, the other day, I was at the YMCA working out and this girl came in with the “Kate” and I totally changed my mind. It looked aweful. To be fair I do not think it looks that bad on Kate, and I saw a pic of her with long hair and I certainly don’t think that looked good either. Maybe a cute bob or shoulder length cut would look good on her.

  9. michelle says:

Ned, Gwyneth is a better-than-everyone biatch, who likes to instruct everyone how to be perfect like she is through her vomit-inducing GOOP site and newsletter. Her mom spews trash about how Gwyneth was so smart she could have cured AIDS, and how great her acting is.

  10. texasmom says:

There’s a BIG difference between a bob and that spiky mess that Kate has in the back.

  11. saintdevil says:

Kate still looks way worse than vintage 90s Goopy.

“Perfect choice for busy moms” indeed – perfect if you never want to have a job or a lovelife again!

  12. Firestarter says:

Ummm, I am going to have to go with- BOTH! Hideous!~

The only thing that gives Paltrow a pass is the fact that hers is circa 1990’s.

  13. Bodhi says:

    I loved Sliding Doors!

  14. TaylorB says:

I am not a huge fan of either version, I would go crazy constantly pushing the hair out of my eyes. I do think that Kate should let those spikes grow out, as it is now she reminds me of Christian Siriano from Project Runway.

  15. melinda says:

I loved Sliding Doors and Goopy’s hair in it. Kate’s hair is gross, shave that animal off it already!!!!

  16. Mme X says:

Kate takes the cake. I actually really like her mom, Blythe Danner.

  17. crash2GO2 says:

I think they both look good. I don’t see what the big deal is with all the ‘Kate Hate’ about her hair. Or the Gwyneth bashing for that matter. Sheesh. If her GOOP bugs you, don’t read it. I read a fashion piece of hers once and I liked it. Other than that I’ve got better things to do! Like read this. 😉

  18. Bob Lawblaw says:

I agree Ned and Bodhi, I was thinking the same thing. And maybe I’m crazy, but I remember Gwyneth giving short hair a huge boost at that time, *because* of her Sliding Doors look.

Kate’s hair is a bit too harsh coupled with her demanding personality. I can see the intentions of a new/funky spin of the pixie, but she should have gone with a more traditional pixie, it would look softer, and just as manageable.

  19. mandajamin says:

Kates hair is just awful. i agree goopy is a dated hairstyle she gets a pass

  20. Mel says:

Goopy’s hair was cute at the time. It was also a decent cut. Kate’s hair looks like a small family of rodents have gnawed away at the back of her head.

  21. the original kate says:

i actually liked goop’s hairstyle back then. also it was the 90s and the pixie/bob was a popular style – linda evangelista had it, kate moss had it etc. but kate gosselin’s is insanely unattractive, no matter what era it is. just bad.

  22. Ling says:

Goopy’s hair is cute and flattering. Kate looks like she’s trying to be 20. Or Posh Spice. Needless to say, she is neither. Even Posh abandoned the curtain fringe.

Kate’s hair can be really cute on the aforementioned 20-year-olds who can still live the lifestyle demanded by the hair without looking like pathetic mid-life-crisis housewives.

  23. CeeJay says:

Since when did a standard, side-parted bob, like Gwenneth’s in Sliding Doors, become such an atrocity? Come on guys. That cut was and still is very popular with ladies who don’t have a lot of time to fuss in muss in the morning. By the way, Kate’s do looked fine until she let the front section grow four times longer than it should have. A few seasons ago her cut actually “worked”, and that’s when people began asking for similar designs. The cut people are asking for is NOT the reversed mullet that you are showing in the picture.

  24. BlueSkies says:

Gwyneth looked adorable in this hairstyle.

  25. BlueSkies says:

Uh, Ned, you shouldn’t question bias on this site. You, of all people, you Jennifer G/AJ hating individual!

  26. Ana says:

I don’t understand why Kate gets credit for that hairstyle. (The link to the website is the one crediting her.)
It’s been around for a long time all Kate did was add a horrible flap of long hair that didn’t fit and some ugly, chunky highlights.
You want to know who did it best? Charlize Thereon in Aeon Flux. That was a hot haircut on a hot person!
Kate’s is the worst. gwen’s kind of looked like she had a bun until you get to the back. If that makes sense. It just looks blah.
Does Kate remind anyone of the Grinch in the top picture?

I don’t think those pictures are necessarily from the 90s. They look liike average pictures from hair styling books to me.

  27. chrissymacq says:

i know that everyone hates gwen but sliding doors was a really good movie, and that haircut was all the rage in the 90s for a good reason.
    hello? linda evangelista?

my stylist and i discussed ‘the kate’ and he said that it’s two different haircuts slapped together. it’s a nightmare.

    there is no comparison.

  28. anonymous says:

kate’s is sooooo worse. at least gwenyth’s doesn’t stick up in scary spikes.

  29. Niamh says:

Celebitchy you will never trick us into thinking Kate Gosselin’s hair is better than anyone’s.
