The MTV Movie Awards were taped Saturday and will be airing tonight. They were hosted by Zachary Levi, which should tell you something. We’re just doing a couple of fashion posts as there weren’t that many big names there. To start here’s Aubrey Plaza in Miu Miu. Ever since she hosted the Independent Spirit Awards this year I’ve had a soft spot for her. She’s funny, unique and I like seeing her on red carpets. She does tend to wear the same kind of dress though, typically something short with long sleeves, and a little dippy. I don’t hate this, it’s a mod mini dress with a bow tie and ruffled sleeves and collar. It’s silly, but it’s on brand for her.
Tiffany Haddish was in Jonathan Simkhai, in a beige sequin gown with one elaborate sleeve. I love her styling! I’m glad that we’re not seeing as many of these weird sleeve gowns and shirts this season, probably because it’s summer. Also I don’t like the ruching on the front of this dress but she looks good in it anyway.
I don’t have a designer ID on Melissa McCarthy’s dress, but I’m putting her after Tiffany as she’s in that new movie with Tiffany and Elisabeth Moss, Kitchen. I just saw the trailer for that ahead of Late Night (we loved it!) and it looks good. The film is set in the 70s in Hell’s Kitchen and their characters start their own mafia to make ends meet after their husbands are incarcerated. As for Melissa’s fashion, like Aubrey she often wears this style of dress, which is gorgeous. This is probably my favorite gown on her, I love the color, fit and little chevron pattern. Look at her sunglasses I want some just like that now.
Lana Condor was in a floral Alice McCall look which is actually a crop top with puff sleeves and a mini skirt. The fit of this is off somehow, and I’m not fond of the ruffled heart-shaped pockets on the front of the skirt. I think her stylist made a bad choice for her, but she still looks cute.
Kiernan Shipka was adorable in a Fendi gown with graphic print stripes and lettering. It looks like Fendi is cribbing from Gucci’s collaboration with Dapper Dan and I love it. I would wear the hell out of this dress.

Literally all of these dresses totally suck. I am shocked at how bad they all are! I was looking for one to like, but I can’t like any of them!
I love Aubry Plaza but that dress just SCREAMS Liza Minelli… I keep waiting for her to bust out some showtunes in that get up.

Kiernan for the win. I want to like Tiffany’s but it’s got too many elements that are just matronly. And while I’m not a fan of Melissa’s dress style I do love the fabric (silver metallic is always flattering, imo) and her hair and makeup are lovely. Aubrey is Aubrey.

The Fendi logo is more obnoxious than Louis Vuitton. All of these dresses are hideous but Melissa looks nice.
everyone in this post looks great! Kiernan Shipka always looks fierce AF. her stylists really get it and always have. she always looks chic but age appropriate. only a 19 year old should wear neon logo dresses so she nailed it. melissa mcarthy has never looked better and though i wish tiffany haddish’s dress was a little shorter, the one sleeve is really cool and it fits her like a glove. lana condor’s face is so beautiful it should be a crime.

All of these are pretty “meh”. I like Melissa’s the best. Looks like it might be a jumpsuit? I like Kiernan’s new hair color.
Love Aubrey’s, love MM’s sunnies, Lana’s dress would be great if it maybe had some structure around the bodice instead of pancaking her poor boobs.
So, is “Kitchen” a parody of “Widows”?
All of them are bad, except for Aubrey’s. Kiernan’s is wearing the heck out of the dress, but I still don’t like it.
