That didn't come across so much in the movie. Also, reading Midnight Sun made it all a little clearer. Overall though, Jacob, despite being somewhat manipulative in New Moon/Eclipse is clearly the "healthier" life partner option. Less obsessive, possessive and stalker-ish.
