People Magazine put the Cambridge kids on the cover of this week’s issue. At first I was like “why in the world?” but then I remembered that we got to see Princess Charlotte and Prince George out and about last week for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s big Keen King’s Cup regatta. Personally, I thought it was nice that William and Kate brought out their two older kids for the sailboat racing. I’ve often wondered why Will & Kate don’t bring their kids out for more of their events, just because they do so many kid-friendly events and it would be nice to see the Cambridge kids interact with – gasp! – peasant children. That didn’t happen at the King’s Cup races – George and Charlotte were looked after by Carole and Michael Middleton, and they spent their time with adults. And then Kate asked Charlotte to wave to the crowd and Charlotte stuck her tongue out instead. The British tabloids basically crowned Kate the Mother of the Year because she laughed when Charlotte did that.
So, anyway, the People cover story is just about how the Cambridge kids are fine and that Charlotte is outgoing and George is more shy.
Prince George and Princess Charlotte already know there’s nothing like the bond between brother and sister. Whether they’re stealing the show at royal weddings or casually kicking around a soccer ball while dad Prince William plays polo, the royal siblings’ relationship is strengthened by their unique upbringing — after all, most kids don’t call Queen Elizabeth “Gan Gan.”
“They are close in age, and they spend so much time together,” an insider tells PEOPLE in this week’s cover story. “Playdates [with outsiders] can be tricky, so they learn to lean on each other.”
That’s not to say the pair aren’t without their differences — Prince George, 6, is “more reserved” while Princess Charlotte, 4, is “more outgoing.” In addition, they’ll be prepared for very different roles with George third in line to be monarch (after grandfather Prince Charles and dad Prince William). The children’s varying personalities were on display at their parents’ charity sailing race last week, with Charlotte playfully sticking out her tongue at one point.
“Kate just handled it wonderfully,” says a longtime royal observer. “She just laughed, and it was really lovely to see. For once you looked at them and thought, ‘They’re a family,’ rather than ‘the royal family.’ “
While Prince Louis, 1, is quickly catching up to his older siblings — Kate has said she’s “running after him all the time” — George and Charlotte will soon share more time together. In just a few weeks, the little princess will join her big brother at Thomas’s Battersea, a $23,000-per-year private school some three miles from the family’s Kensington Palace home.
“She can’t wait to be with George at big school,” says the insider. “She is so excited about it all.”
“Kate just handled it wonderfully. She just laughed, and it was really lovely to see…” What were they expecting Kate to do? It actually seemed like Kate was slightly embarrassed about it and in the video, you can see how quickly Charlotte was hustled off by Carole. Interesting family dynamics, I guess. Anyway, it’s clear that Charlotte has a lot of personality and that George seems much more reserved. Even though Will and Kate claim they haven’t really explained George’s position and future to him, I have a feeling that he already knows from other people that he’s the “future king.”

The press has already been hypocritical and putting these two against each other with Kate good and Meghan bad. Pretending that it won’t happen again is naive. Racism by the UK media may be exhausting but pretending it doesn’t exist is worse.
I have the theory that they will desperately try to “claim” Archie as an English boy and not an American, show how he behaves/looks more like Harry than Meghan by comparing the two all the time.

Why? He’s half American & half British. That can’t be disputed. It sounds more like you want to claim him as American. The fact is that he’s growing up (for now) in the UK and will be exposed to far more British culture than American.
I’m mixed race and duel nationality (British & American). I was born in London and have lived my whole life here. If anyone asks, I’m British. I don’t feel a claim to my US citizenship just because it’s where my dad was born.
I have kids who are half French & half British and the same applies. They have French names and speak French but they also identify as British and I often have to remind them that half of their family are from another country.
Archie will make his mind up, not the press and it’s still very possible that they’ll quit Royal life (if the monarchy even remains) and end up living in the States. He’s only a baby; theres still years for things to change.
They will have to point out that Archie is British. Because the Royal Family is funded by the British taxpayer. I don’t think the Brits would like to support a US-American Royal. They want their Royals to be British.
Same as US-Americans would like their Presidents to be US-American.
I was watching a documentary on Diana last year (maybe it was the one on ABC which talked about her historical impact?), and apparently she was criticized when Harry stuck out his tongue. I think it depends on what the press is feeling about you at the moment.
I do think Kate shows more personality when she’s with her kids, so in that sense I kind of get why people are amused when she has a reaction to her kids. She’s her happiest it seems when she sees kids (hers and others people). Before she had kids, I thought she had no personality.
The SECOND that happens, I will personally launch the Twitter pile-on dragging People mag or any other crapfest media outlet that pulls that stunt. I am so OVER the Meghan-hate.
On another note, that was fricking adorable. Kids do it all the time. I think it’s hilarious.

I remember being about 7, sitting on the floor shaking with my mother holding me down. She had a little sharp knife and said she was going to cut my toes off. She ran the knife across the top of one of my toes, I saw a line of blood and my toe bone. I don’t remember anything else about that episode, but I do still have my toes, scarred but they are all here.

For now I’m just happy that the press are playing off Charlotte’s moment as cute and fun. I have a feeling that once she gets to be a teenager they won’t be quite so forgiving.
Kate handled it fine. She did look a bit embarrassed, but she didn’t make a big deal about it. The over the top praise is ridiculous, but the press are invested in their Sainted Mother Kate line, so it’s predictable.
Charlotte is adorable, but I feel for her since that photo will be brought out over and over her whole life.
There are pics of Harry doing the same when he was younger than Charlotte (Diana was holding him), at some event on the balcony, and yup, it gets thrown up on the web every once and a while. And there, he was just trying to be funny.
I thought Kate’s “laugh” was a hasty response to her own mortification. She was trying to convince everyone Charlotte was trying to be funny. I’m not sure about that.
As for Fergie, the only reason she has been kept so close to the fold is she knows stuff and has cheerfully kept quiet in exchange for sharing the house with Andrew, the Swiss chalet, etc. She’s gross.
Of course it will, just like the pic/video of Harry sticking out his tongue from the window of the car (Diana pulled him away from the window), and the one where she’s holding him in her arms. Whenever it’s needed to make “the golden one(s) look better, Char’s antics will be trotted out.

Thanks Kaiser! That’s exactly what I thought too about George knowing. There seemed to be a shift in him about a year or so ago. He’s a child, but George really seems like he is carrying the weight of the world on his little shoulders.
Perhaps it dawned upon him that he would have to be king one day?
I doubt Will and Kate need to explain he’ll be future King because I can’t see a monarchy existing, like today, in 60 years time. So hopefully they encourage him to have a strong education to fall back on.

I don’t think the monarchy will falter. Not because of the sign of times but because I believe we will have a massive third world war in the next 60 years, maybe even sooner. And if there is one thing that thrives under war its the monarchy.
If you look at what is happening in Gibraltar, the Iran oil tankers, the massive USA debt and trade war with China. If the dollar falls and China comes to collect it will be war. If Iran launches their nuclear weapon it will be war, and look at what is happening in Hong Kong, how will Europe and USA react when China goes full in?
I will be like Charlotte I will stick my tongue out to all the people who have made this world a very unstable place.
It would be nice if this monarchy could work a bit harder to prevent that looming war which I see looming as well. But I guess that that is not in their interest … neither in their financial interests nor in their keep-the-monarchy interest.
What it takes to turn a monarchy into a republic:
Germany’s emperor Wilhelm had to abdicate after WW1 – respectively he fled like a coward and left it to Prince Max of Baden to deal with the matter. The latter looked at the german monarchy and their deeds and at the heirs presumptive and their families and decided to not put too much effort into saving the prussian monarchy but to negotiate favorable terms with the winners. It also helped that the german monarchy were prussian (prostestantism bending to the monarchy, militarist, ill-educated) and Prince Max von Baden was Bavarian (katholic, humanist education at school, attempted to study law, refused active military service but was forced into the emperor’s army and the bavarians never liked the prussians who forced them into the German Empire). Max von Baden was homosexual and married to keep up the facade. The empress later blackmailed Max von Baden in order to make him keep the monarchy but it didn’t work out. After some back and forth the chancellor’s post was given to Ebert who was democratically elected member of parliament. Ebert wanted to keep some monarchical elements because he was one of those social climbers who become the establishment’s spitlickers. But Scheidemann who was a more democratic figure simply cheekily declared Germany to be a republic and so Germany became a republic. 😉
As you can see there was a lot of horseplay and blackmailing behind the scenes and most participants were not decent upright people. It required a lot of luck, too, for Germany to become a democracy after WW1 but even that didn’t prevent WW2.
In short: it takes a major catastrophe to abolish a monarchy completely.

Oh I believe George is well aware of his station in life. He is old enough to make simple observations and compare his life to his fellow students. Special protection officers following you to the washrooms for one. I only hope he turns out grateful for the privileges granted and be a humble and hard working leader. Who knows? he may end up being like James Middleton, just enjoying the company of his 2,000 dogs and ambling through life living off trust funds.
