Taylor Swift plans to re-record her first five albums next year, so….

Taylor Swift Performs On ABC's Good Morning America

This outfit, my lord. I guess this is what Taylor Swift’s Lover tour will look like in a few months: sequined, high-waisted booty shorts and everything lilac and pink. It would be cute if she was 12. I know that’s harsh, I get that. Who am I to criticize Girl Culture? Who am I to say that a nearly 30-year-old woman should put away hearts and purple sequins and everything looking like Pepto-barf? Maybe this is truly Taylor’s aesthetic. But that’s the thing – I don’t think it is her aesthetic, really. I think she’s decided that this juvenile “look” is her whole deal for this album cycle.

Anyway, these are photos from Taylor’s appearance on Good Morning America today. She spoke to Robin Roberts, and she performed a concert live on GMA to promote Lover, which is out tomorrow. She confirms that she plans to re-record her old albums after Scooter Braun bought Big Machine. She said: “Yeah, that’s true, and it’s something I’m very excited about doing because my contract says that starting November 2020—so next year—I can record albums 1 through 5 all over again. I’m very excited about it. Because I just think that artists deserve to own their work. I just feel very passionately about that. Yeah, it’s next year [I’ll start doing that]. It’s right around the corner. I’m going to be busy. I’m really excited.”

I honestly don’t have an opinion about that. If she wants to do it, so be it. God bless and godspeed, Tay.

Meanwhile, her dad Scott delivered pizzas to fans waiting for her performance today. Interestingly enough, there’s another story going around about Taylor and her father – apparently, he had a Facebook account and he was posting/sharing Deplorable memes and such. Then just as mysteriously, his Facebook account was shut down this week. Is this for real? The Daily Mail reported it, that’s why I’m asking. It seems remarkably careless if her dad was doing that online.

Every time I see pictures of her, I just wonder what all has she done to her face?! Its very pillowy right? She obviously has some weight gain, but there’s something more there and I can’t unsee it.

    • weezle says:

Honestly, I think she’s just not a kid anymore. At least she’s still pretty as an adult (unlike Miley).

      • Gingerbread says:

She hasn’t been a kid for like two albums. She’s 30, not 20.

I think her face feels off to me too, but I can’t pinpoint what. Even with her weight gain she’s still thin, but those high waisted booty shorts look so so bad. They’re really not flattering for anybody.

I read that most contracts have stipulations about re-recording. I mean, she obviously knows more about hers than I do, but I feel like Scooter would have been really dumb to have spent almost $300 million if there was a chance she could easily do this?

    • Algernon says:

I think it’s just the weight gain. She has always had chipmunk cheeks, and with a little more weight, her cheeks are popping. I think she looks great, very fit and strong, and very cute with her apple cheeks.

    • Case says:

She might get some Botox to smooth things out, but I think it’s mostly weight gain. Looking at old pictures of her, she looked anorexic. Soooo terrifyingly thin. She’s still thin but I bet she’s 20 lbs heavier these days. A lot of that shows in people’s faces.

    • Elisa says:

she looks great so if she had work done it’s good subtle work.
I like the shorts but hate the boots and blouse.
Also, good for her for owning her music.

    • MrsPanda says:

Yep her face looks different, she’s had quite a few tweaks over the years. The biggest change some years ago was an eyebrow lift & upper lid surgery to open up her eyes. She was quite wide-eyed for a while. Her eyes look more squinted now (as they were when she was young), and having more weight on her cheeks will make them more narrowed (especially when smiling). I have the same eye size/shape. I think she’s more natural these days and is possibly laying off the surgery & strict dieting! I think she looks good, more like herself.

That outfit would not look out of place on Jojo Siwa. I am baffled by this new “aesthetic”, what is this referencing? It’s not intense enough to be ironic nor subtle enough to be actual fashion. It’s like the Diet Coke of Katy Perry’s music video costumes. Id even say Lisa Frank-esque but that look was full on kitsch, not this pseudo-high fashion vibe (Tennessee Stella McCartney). It’s definitely a costume, but who is this character and what audience is this suppose to appeal to? Like, she has struggled with adult demographic not being embarrassed to admit they like her music, this pre-teen look isn’t going to help.

    • Case says:

I’ve been thinking the same. When the whole pastel cloud aesthetic was revealed for this album, I expected her clothes to be ethereal and feminine. Not campy.

  3. Layla Beans says:

Good for her. Scooter Braun is a weasel and represents so much of what is wrong in the music industry. She’s no saint, and I am not a Swifty, but fuck that guy.

    • Embee says:

I know I love it! And her fans will totally buy her re-recorded albums. As will I because fuck that guy.

    • Charlie says:

But if the rights to her music become hers next year – says a lot about all the drama.

      • Jester says:

She can re-record her old songs. The original recordings, the ones that people are most familiar with, still belong to Big Machine.

    • Some chick says:

      Preach, Layla!

Maybe Bieber will break away next! 😀

  4. Chef Grace says:

The colors need more black. 🌑
    And skulls.💀
    I do like that top.

  5. AB says:

This whole look and album just feels like filler content.

  6. ariel says:

For me it’s less about her 12 year old pink heart and unicorns aesthetic, and more about how unflattering it is, Ms. Swift is a tall, slender woman, and in the outfit at the top, she looks heavy and square. And, I just hate sheer “clothing”- moreso on the skirt where women then wear performative undies, but again, she is a beautiful woman, and she looks kind of dumpy and like she got dressed in the dark.

  7. Ann says:

I’m glad she’ll be re-recording her old music because she’s gotten better as a singer so the old music will probably sound better.

I don’t like this outfit but I’m not minding all the pink. It is juvenile, which usually bugs me, but right now not so much. I’m too excited for the album to drop tomorrow to dissect.

  8. Vicsy says:

She’s so cosplay with every new album — I don’t get it.

I wonder how the album is going to perform. Don’t think the vids are hitting the numbers the previous ones did.

    • Millenial says:

I mean, I think it’s fair to say she peaked at Red and 1989. Nothing wrong with that, every artist is going to have a similar trajectory. If they can do the downswing with some grace and success, good for them.

  9. holly hobby says:

Wow she looks like she’s standing a Macy’s flower show. Terribly bad. I am meh about doing an album of covers of her original songs. Seriously people, how many versions of her love lorn songs do you need? Also, for a 30 year old woman singing about high school love is ridiculous (her early albums).

Why would anyone be surprised her dad is a redneck GOPer?

  10. Diana says:

So after she records and re releases her old stuff- will she and scooter co own the music or will she just own the new recordings and he the old? 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • Caity says:

She’ll own the new stuff. He’ll own the old stuff. But as songwriter and composer Taylor has publishing rights as well. So scooter can make money off streaming and physical sales of the old records but can’t licence her music to movie soundtracks etc without Taylor’s okay.
If she re-records then she can licence her new (old) stuff as well as own the streaming and sales money

  11. Anna says:

Her legs always look so shiny. lol, it likes the first thing I notice about her.

    • Kateeeee says:

She seems to have dance tights on, no? Perhaps it is security against butt showing, perhaps it is concern over visible cellulite (it comes for us all sometime), but hopefully it makes her feel more comfortable in that awful little outfit. I never thought of her as a traditional pop star like Gaga or Britney, but I suppose she has been for several years now, and this outfit is just part of the trappings.

Good for her for taking back her albums in her own way, too.

  12. Lucy says:

It definitely suits her way better than the whole Reputation dark-alternative imagery, which looked like a costume on her. It simply wasn’t her.

    • horseandhound says:

I agree. it wasn’t her vibe. I like this new aesthetic. she’s all about love and romance and lovey dovey stuff. I don’t get why people think she looks 12 and should outgrow this aesthetic. she’s true to herself. I hate it when people start acting all grown up as a role because they think that’s something you have to do. also, other singers are normally about being sexy and I don’t think that’s taylor’s thing and I appreciate that about her. not everything should be that generic.

  13. OriginalRose says:

So is she wearing tights /pantyhose and then fishnet tights/pantyhose over the top? THEN shorts over the top of that?! Good morning Thrush, pull up a chair

    • Kateeeee says:

Hahahaha thanks for the coffee snarf. good eye too! I didnt even notice the fishnet.

    • Tiffany :) says:

Most pop stars wear tights under their fishnets (Katy, Beyonce, etc.). It keeps the leg looking firm, and the fishnet texture is also very forgiving.

  14. Case says:

I’m getting the weirdest vibe from this whole album launch. I think Red was the last album she put out that was true artistry and not just manufactured content produced to win awards (she has said as much – Red didn’t win Album of the Year because it wasn’t sonically cohesive, and she was devastated she didn’t win a Grammy lol, so she now creates albums that stand a better chance of winning — she has literally admitted this). It’s just getting more and more obvious that there’s no passion behind these songs. Which makes me sad because I love most of her music. I’m just having a hard time getting excited for this album.

  15. Sheamus says:

I usually don’t like her outfits, but that top is giving me life. I would totally wear it. I like that it’s a tank top under the sheer and not a bra top like some people would wear. The shorts though…gag. And I don’t feel like the booties really go with the outfit – maybe if they were a lighter color?

  16. sassafras says:

Her changing “aesthetic” is probably market-tested and consulted and strategized through the wazoo. It’s not about you guys or even her. She’s selling a product every time she goes on stage and putting on a costume to promote her work. They came up with a “story” to sell reputation and a story to sell 1989 and a story to sell Lover and as a creative myself, I’m fascinated with her presentation of it.

    • horseandhound says:

sure, I agree with you. you gotta have a story behind everything. however, I don’t think she would use something she doesn’t like herself. I think she’s enjoying this as well.

    • KL says:

Swift’s always been highkey tuned in to youth culture — she personally blogged on tumblr during its heyday, she wore meme shirts about herself, and then there was that recent thing where she planted enough Insta clues to lure in fans for a RL meetup. The aesthetic she’s got going now strikes me, An Old, as very much a response to the “hottest” new aesthetic subulture of the VSCO girl. Playful use of super-bright colors, retro ’80s/early ’90s stylings, more concerned with earnest idealism (romantic or political/environmental) than glamour. It’s the souped-up pop star version, of course, and maybe I’m wearing tinfoil, but all the music videos for this album finally make sense to me.

It’s not that I think Swift can’t screw up. I think Reputation proved she’s pretty bad at dark and edgy. But anything preppy, girly, cute — that’s her wheelhouse, and she’s proved again and again that social media is where she lives. I’m willing to bet this new style is all very deliberate and self-aware on her part.

  17. Yes Doubtful says:

I’m surprised that’s even legal to do??

    • Mo says:

The rights situation was set up for musicians and songwriters back when piano rolls (for player pianos) were introduced. Before that the music industry made its money selling sheet music. The Supreme Court ruled in 1908 that piano rolls were not simply a copy of the music, but something different which could be sold apart from the underlying music. The next year Congress passed a copyright law for music recordings which gave separate copyright protection to the song and to the recording (still called mechanicals because it originally referred to piano rolls). Basically mechanicals are what let anyone cover somebody else’s (already released) song by paying the standard royalty rate set by law.

So, Scooter bought the recordings, but Taylor holds the publishing, so she has no limitations on what she can do with the songs themselves, including re-recording. It will be curious to see how this plays out. Will they end up in court if the new ones sound too much like the old?

Or were you talking about those purple shorts? (ducks)

  18. pottymouth pup says:

Her dad’s a rich, white guy who’s originally from Bryn Mawr and settled in Berks county so it’s more than likely that he’s always been a died-in-the-wool republican and would not surprise me in the least if he was a die-hard deplorable

  19. GossipLover says:

She looks like she’s wearing a sparkly diaper ☹️

  20. BANANIE says:

I’m not personally into this aesthetic, but I just feel there must be a better way to do it. Something reasonably cute. I feel like it’s possible but I guess the point is to be overdone?

The little teasers she’s put on insta for the Lover music video haven’t been as pastel pukey, at least.

  21. May says:

Well Taylor can thank Kelly Clarkson for the suggestion of re-recording her early music. I’m surprised that Kelly’s tweet to Taylor hasn’t been mentioned in any of the articles I’ve seen.

I think that if some of you substituted Beyonce for Taylor you would have been outraged that someone that didn’t like her got control of her masters.
