Kristen Bell gets turned on when husband Dax helps around the house

Frozen 2 is coming out this week and it will make a gazillion dollars and be played on repeat in so many homes for years to come. There are literally millions of children who haven’t been conceived yet who will make their parents watch this movie dozens of times. Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel are doing promotion, even though there doesn’t need to be a single interview ahead of this movie. They did a joint interview with Entertainment Tonight and they seem so close and get along well, which was nice to see. Kristen and Idina talked about how they got into show business and the fact that both of them loved entertaining people from an early age. I wanted to talk about the part where they discussed their “love languages.” If you’re not familiar with that, it’s based on the book of that name by Gary Chapman. Full disclosure: I have not read it, but I’ve heard about it and was just discussing it with another one of my single friends about a week ago. Kristen is familiar with the love languages and speaks at length about it while Idina is just learning about it.

In this movie Kristoff is trying to profess his love for Anna and it’s not going great. What is the way that you like your significant others to show you love?
Kristen: What’s our love language? I know mine. Acts of service are huge to me. We’re 13 years in. He’s gotten it now. He woke up after I did and he said ‘is there anything I can do to help you get out of the house?’ I was like ‘are you trying to make me horny right now?’ If you pour your coffee and hand me a mug I’m there.

Idina: One he really looks me straight in the eyes and I find that extremely sexy and disarming but in a great way. He’s a therapist too. I feel seen all the time and very protected. It’s nice when you have a man in your life who can take care of things once in a while.

I just took the love languages quiz for singles and acts of service score really low for me. My love language is gifts, words of affirmation, touch, quality time and acts of service, in that order. I appreciate gifts the most. This does not mean that I’m a superficial bitch, although I know this about myself, but that I see the thoughtfulness behind a gift. I also realize I do this with friends a lot. I’m always giving little gifts and telling them how awesome they are. My friend showed up with a bunch of boxes for me the other day because she knew I was thinking of moving! This was so touching for me. My ex husband’s love language is acts of service, and he loved it when I brought him coffee or made dinner. Like Kristen’s husband Dax it took me a while to figure this out about him.

This interview was a joy to watch. I want to see Kristen and Idina in a Netflix romcom as best friends. Idina should be the star though! Kristen is the friend who always says what she thinks and helps Idina get back with the guy. She didn’t like him at first but it was all a crazy misunderstanding.

I thought every wife gets a little excited when her partner does his part and helps make the house a nice neat, clean home. I know that I sure would.

  2. Jennifer says:

A little choreplay is always nice. Can’t say it literally turns me on, but I do get the warm fuzzies for my husband when he takes the scrub brush out of my hand and finishes the bathrooms without me asking.

    • Scarlett says:

“Choreplay” FTW!! I knew there was a word for how I felt when my husband cleans, now I know what the word is!!

  3. Lizzie says:

my good friend and her husband have been married for 25 years. they are both neat freaks and can’t sleep at night unless everything is in its place. every thursday night they deep clean the house together and finish by having sex. swear to god.

    Blah, blah, blah…. YAWN!

  5. Ariel says:

I’m a little more in love with Kristin Bell than I was yesterday. That was a great interview.
And now I’m looking forward to Idina’s Christmas album and finding Momsplaining.

  6. Eliza says:

Maybe because my husband has always been clean and taken on his share of house cleaning I don’t get it? He’s more OCD so it can be annoying because he HAS to clean on this day lol. No grace periods.

  7. Busybody says:

This bugs. It’s okay to appreciate that the other adult who lives in your house does housework, but it’s crazy to act like that basic decency of living together is above and beyond enough to 1) turn you on, or 2) merit gratitude. I try not to consider basic human decency something my husband does for me, but it has taken us years to get there. I was raised by a woman who will eat food I shopped for, prepared and served her and then say something like, “wow! He cleared his plate from the table!” when my husband does even the smallest household chore.

This! Doing chores like a normal person is nothing really to be celebrated.

    • ME says:

I agree. It’s the same as fathers getting praised for “babysitting” their own damn kids. Oh look HE changed a diaper what a great dad ! Does anyone ever say “oh look SHE changed a diaper what a great mom !”? Nope. Everyone should clean and cook. That’s the bare minimum.

  8. Starkille says:

Gross. Who are these people, and why do they feel the need to share this information?

  9. Sean says:

I always picture Dax and Kristen as not really liking each other behind closed doors. They’re too try-hard with the public declarations of their relationship. I don’t trust couples like that.

    • Bex says:

Yeah. K Bell’s a charming interview as demonstrated here and I also think she is a talented actress with a pretty singing voice, but she made this nauseating IG post about how she and Dax were too in love to remember their anniversary or some nonsense and it put me right off her. It also bugs how she’s always on a crusade about her kids’ privacy but then is constantly posting their voices or the back of their heads or embarrassing stories about them. Idina’s just as talented but from her social media you wouldn’t find out anything about her personal life.

    They don’t have a maid?

  11. grumpyterrier says:

I love Dax but Kristen annoys me for some reason. She’s just too perky and happy, lol.

  12. Bebe says:

I’m really shocked by how often I hear women say things like this (also, all these “cute” memes about how their male partners can not do basic household chores or childcare, ick).

  13. prettypersuasion says:

I don’t get “turned on” when my husband pulls his weight, but it does free up headspace and time for my sexuality. It gets put on the back burner when I’m overwhelmed by everything else in my life. And being a lazy childish bum who needs a mom to take care of him is a HUGE turn off.

  14. Lindy says:

I love the rapport these two women have and would totally watch a show with them as the co stars!

Also, I don’t think Bell is pulling the “I love it when my husband loads the dishwasher once every two months” kind of thing. I sense that they’re both involved and pretty self-aware. I think she’s just saying that it’s nice when your partner does something for you or for your kids or for the household that lessens your burden or that frees you up to do something else or that makes you feel cared for. I get that!

I expect my husband to pull his weight, just as I pull mine, because two working parents with two kids means we have to be working together to get it all done. So when he does something that would usually be my responsibility to save me the trouble, it’s really great. And yes, totally makes me more able to get out of my head making lists and be more open to sex.

Maybe the bar is too damn low for most men. 🙂
