Victoria Beckham is worried her moody facade will be ruined by American Idol joy

Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham will be an American Idol judge – at least for one episode. And she’s making a good chunk of change for it too: $219,000. Because $220,000 would have been unreasonable. According to Posh, she’s pretty damn psyched about the whole thing, to the point that her usually grumpy, frowning face has accidentally been smiling. She’s trying to tone it down though so she doesn’t freak us all out.

Victoria Beckham says she’s “beyond excited” at being an “American Idol” judge. In fact, Victoria, 35, even says her joy is ruining her usual miserable persona. “When I got the phone call, I just couldn’t believe it,” the former Spice Girl told Ryan Seacrest in an interview on his radio show. “I feel like I got the best job that there is. I’m still grinning from ear to ear.

“I’m going to try hard to pout and not shatter the illusion that I’m a moody cow, but I don’t know if I can – I’m just so happy,” she said.

London’s Daily Mail reports that the mother-of-three will appear in one episode of series nine of the show for a rumoured $219,000 fee.
Her first scenes at the call back auditions of the show were filmed at a hotel in Denver Friday. Wearing a purple strapless gown, she shook hands with fans on her way in.

Like Paula [Abdul], Victoria says she wants to be a kind judge. “I want to be nice to people,’ she said. ‘I know how it feels to be stood there and be judged and how it can feel when nerves get the better of you. I don’t want to shatter anybody’s dream. But at the same time, there’s nothing wrong with a little bit of constructive criticism.”

And sitting alongside Simon Cowell? “He is the only man in the music industry who turned down the Spice Girls and said that we would never work,’ she said. ‘I’m looking forward to a bit of banter.’

I’m sure already having a bone to pick with Simon Cowell will keep things from running too smoothly. Not that FOX would ever want that, or to amp up the drama. I think Posh could actually be a really good fit for the show as a permanent judge. She’s a hell of a lot funnier than you’d expect, has lots of experience, and would bring real star power, unlike Kara DioGuardi. I’m curious to see whether Simon will have more or less respect for Posh than he did for Paula. Neither one had an excessively long career, though they both managed to remain relevant – Victoria more consistently so. I think a lot of people had forgotten about Paula until she started working on American Idol.

Speaking of which, Victoria had some almost catty and then kind things to say about the departing Paula.

Victoria’s inclusion on the hit program comes after the departure of judge Paula Abdul, who announced her decision to quit in a rumoured row over her pay.
When asked if she felt guilty at filling Paula’s seat by the show’s host, Victoria said: ‘You know, I don’t. I’m a spiritual person, and I believe you get back what you put out there.
“I hope she does something that’s bigger and better, and I hope she’s going to be happy. She’s great so she’s going to be good at whatever she does.”

[From the Daily News]

That first sentence seemed all quippy and mean. You could totally turn it around and say Victoria was saying Paula was let go because she’d deserved it. But she immediately says she thinks Paula will have something “bigger and better” coming her way, and she tied it in well enough that it seems like it was all part of the same thought. Not that I don’t want to do whatever I can to encourage a catfight, but I think it was probably well intentioned. And my money would be on Posh in a fight, just as an FYI. Sure she’s malnourished and underweight but Paula’s erratic and gets the dizzies. Victoria has those long fingernails and stilettos, she seems like she’s the traditional “claw your eyes out” type of fighter. Which is good – she’ll need that for Simon anyway.

at least she will give some fashion adivices for then

  2. Ramona says:

I cannot believe that they replaced Paula with this washed out, no talent, skeletor, bone creature…She cannot sing much less have the ability to judge a singing competition…What is American Idol thinking that Paula can be replaced so easily….I agree with Paula…I would have been pissed off too by the way they disrespected her by giving Dumbass Ryan and Simon a significant raise and completely ignoring her…She did what they were hoping she would do…Quit!! and I can’t say I blame her…She might have acted goofy sometimes but I love her and I am used to seeing her on the panel…Kara sucks ass for me and now this….I love the show but thank goodness for Tevo…I will just fast forward through high drama Kara and Queen Victoria the Snob!!

  3. Wench. says:

    LOVE Victoria.

It’s a shame some people don’t see how funny and hilariously self-deprecating she is, she’s a smart cookie.

On a side note, is it just me that adores she is always made up? I quite like to see a celebrity always in glamour mode.

  4. Persistent Cat says:

So by staying in the tabloids, that means you are still relevent?

  5. mockingbird says:

“She would bring real star power…”
Are they joking? Posh is a star only in her own little, feeble mind…

  6. Hieronymus Grex says:

We’ll all be blinded by the stage lights gleaming off her massive forehead. Yay.

  7. boomchakaboom says:

Doesn’t it say she’ll be on one episode? That’s not exactly replacing Paula. Maybe they plan to use different people for a while? I’m not impressed by Kara whatshername, but I think Posh would be an interesting judge on the show. I would like to see if she does indeed have a witty personality or something. She got to have something.

There’s just no replacing Paula, in my opinion. She was just a Laker cheerleader once upon a time, and now she has legions of fans, me included, who just love her personality – Vicodin and all.

  8. QB says:

Why her ?? She was one of the members of the spice girls that never sang.

  9. Tiffany says:

I am going to more than likely get chastised for this but… I like Victoria Beckham. The woman might look high maintenance, but she loves her husband and children and from what I have seen of her on television, she does not take herself or the image people have of her too seriously. She had a show on NBC last year introducing her to America and that was when I was starting to enjoy her more. Also youtube her interview with Ellen from last year, she was cute, funny and seemed very easy to talk to. From the interviews I have read, she has never been mean spirited and seems to enjoy the press
she is given. I will watch Idol for her appearance alone. She has a fan in me, alright let the criticism begin….now.

  10. bb says:

for those of you saying she has no talent obviously didn’t know that posh wrote some songs for the group, that’s a heck of a lot more than alot of pop singers today who can’t even sing let alone write a song..

  11. gg says:

Not a talent does she have. Including “fashion”. The woman stains herself, puts on tight clothes and crippling heels and walks around outside – that is not a talent.

  12. Sam says:

    I second Tiffany…….

I’m looking forward to seeing what Posh does on AI – I think she is quite funny and would be a good coach for the contestants.

  13. ! says:

Posh has personality in spades, I love that about her. As for “talent”, the term is relative. I heard an unplugged set she did that was not half bad.

  14. Sister Mary Francis says:

I think she is the devil. Honestly! (giggles)
Have you ever seen the move The Devil’s Advocate with Pacino, Key(awwwno) Reeves?

There is a scene where they take KeyKey’s characters wife out shopping and one of the women’s face turns deamon in the mirror. This is how I see posh.

She flirts with the borderline of Scientology so often I can not separate her gluttony and plastic facade from what may still be human.

Everything she stands for is wrong. Vanity ruins so much in this world. Little devil toothpic! LOL

  15. Sister Mary Francis says:

Also I die a million deaths of laughter when i read there are actual SPICE GIRL fans? Q-tips people! Use them to help dig some blockage from your ear holes. I thought they were largely thought of as a joke?

    My god

  16. kim says:

Posh is funny and witty I saw her reality show when they first arrived. very dry sense of humor. Although 1 brit is enough on AI

  17. Pam says:

    I love Posh’s sense of humor, as well. I can’t help but like her when she has the chance to speak. Go Posh (;

  18. masha kim says:

i like posh! shes very tongue-in-cheek and sarcastic…she dont take herself seriously which i love…i just hope we can all get ther brit sense of humor though…i miss paula too

  19. Emily says:

I reckon Posh will be awesome on AI. I don’t normally watch it, but I’ll be watching the episode she’s on. I also saw her coming to the US reality show, and she was really funny.

  20. Tina says:

Victoria is so great! i love her!

  21. raven says:

Victoria Beckham is way more disciplined than Paula Abdul. I think she’ll try to get along with Cowell, but if he gives her shit, she’ll very sweetly mop the floor with him.

  22. Jazz says:

She’s only “relevant” because she is married to Beckham.

  23. waldemar says:

She blew it!!!!! Reports are coming in that she indeed tried to be nice, but that it didn’t came across and she looked cold and icy. Hahaha, guess you can’t be what you are not.

  24. danielle says:

Every interview I’ve read with Victoria she always comes across as self deprecating, funny, and really pretty charming.

  25. Prospar says:

People have very short memories. It was not that long ago that she was in the biggest band in the world. Granted, i cannot stand pop but no one can argue that the Spice Girls were the biggest band in the world for a few years. That with the constant media attention over her husband, has kept her more or less in the spotlight. Love it or hate it (as I do) she is a star that people want to see.

  26. Magsy says:

She can’t be any worse than Paula. At least she’ll be sober.

  27. Zoe (The Other One) says:

What Wench said to the power of one bajillion.

Love love love me some Victoria.
