Charlize Theron in Celine at the Critics’ Choice Awards: basic or sleek?

Critics’ Choice Awards 2019

Here are more photos from last night’s Critics’ Choice Awards. Charlize Theron is getting nominated across the board for playing Megyn Kelly in Bombshell and everybody seems to have mixed feelings about that. I sort of wonder if Charlize is trying her best to avoid looking like Megyn Kelly during the awards season, and maybe that’s why she’s keeping this tragique hairstyle. This hair is full-on ruining what would be okay red carpet looks. Charlize’s look last night was Celine – I’m curious about what the dress looks like without the jacket, but whatever. It’s a look.

Nicole Kidman in Armani. On the show, I only saw this from the waist up, so I was not expecting this ballgown-like skirt. It’s… a lot. It’s not bad, actually. It’s just kind of boring, even though it’s supposed to be mega-drama.

Annabelle Wallis in Moschino – another one which should be DRAMA but it’s really not. I am surprised by how much I like the construction on this – it suits her.

Jenny Slate in Mulberry. This is… lovely? I really like the fabric, the embroidery, the subtle sparkle in the floral. It suits her and it’s a good dress.

Probably my least favourite fashion post so far. Nothing looks bad at all, all the ladies are well put together. But nothing is memorable either.

  2. Sierra says:

Charlize is such a beautiful woman but this hair style and colour just doesn’t suit her.

  3. Busyann says:

Oooh I Nicole’s dress would be better with less volume. Like a fitted sheath that Renee Z. favours. That would be gorgeous. Also, I always forget who Annabelle Wallis is. Her name recognition is growing, but I would never be able to pick her out of a crowd.

  4. ichsi says:

Jenny’s dress needed to be floor length, not that sad asymmetric hem. Otherwise I agree with the post above, everyone looks good, but there’s nothing memorable there.

I remember when Joan Collins said some years ago that modern actresses lack glamour. As times goes by i agree with her…especially today

    • Naddie says:

That’s what I like about them. Glamour is old-fashioned and I’m happy it’s gone.

    • Josephine says:

Joan Collins is from a time when glamour meant lots of make-up, jewelry and hair and when women didn’t dare go out without a certain level of perfection. It might have been more exciting and alluring but I’m really, really glad that we’ve moved on to women looking mostly like themselves when they dress formally. I think these dresses are beautiful, everyone here has lovely hair (maybe not Kidman’s color) and make-up, and everyone seems comfortable and happy. And Charlize is absolutely gorgeous here, and glamorous to boot – not quite sure what you think is missing.

I really like all of these, especially Charlize’s.

  7. Valiantly Varnished says:

I love Charlize’s short hair. It shows off her amazing bone structure and she’s clearly been feeling herself with it. I like Annabelle’s Moschino.

    • SM says:

I know, right. I post exactly that under every post about her and each time there is something about how bad hair short hair is. Like there still is thinking that women should not have short hair and red carpets demand long locks. I love a short hairdo. And she has the face for it. So yeah. I love it. The whole look is good too.

  8. Cindy says:

Charlie looks great but I agree about the hair. Nicole is looking so much like a wax figure of herself lately.

I think all of the women above look amazingly beautiful in their dresses!

I love all of these dresses, except for the hem of Jenny Slate’s. I wish it was all one length instead of that “handkerchief” hemline.

  11. Charfromdarock says:

I love Charlize and her hair here.

I’m jealous of women who can pull off short hair.

at this point…. Nicole is looking VERY targaryen (sp)

please return to ginger curls PLZZZZZZZZ

Nicole looks amazing. Finally. She used to be THE ONE to watch on the carpet, remember? Oh, she looks like a goddess again. I just wish she’d stop with the blonde hair. It’s awful. Her natural hair is so beautiful and sets her apart. I wish she’d go back to embracing it. She and Cate Blanchett are my *sigh* fashion candy. They both are capable of wearing just about anything and making it look good.

Charlize looks good in a paper sack. She’s wearing the hell out of that dress, but I don’t like the dress. I like Charlize in it, but it’s kinda basic.

  14. BellaBella says:

Nicole looks like she is wearing a wig.

And I like Charlize’s hair. She and Jenny Slate both look awesome.

  15. Bella says:

they all look amazing! Just spectacular~

Whenever I see a dress with one side slit I can’t help picturing it without it. I feel that it would be difficult to sit without having to pull at the skirt to keep everything where it belongs. Otherwise, nice looks. I’m okay with not show stopping if they look good 😀
